“You ready brother?” Angel asks Luis.

“I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.” Luis answers.

The stewardess begins to let everybody out in an orderly fashion. Angel and Luis are in the middle of the plane, so they end up waiting about 10 minutes until they’re able to get out of the airplane. When they arrive at the airport, they see that the airport is rather updated in look. The airport has LED televisions, real time GPS airplane tracking, and a futuristic metallic look to it.

The two of them head for the bathroom. When they arrive in the bathroom, they go inside of the doors, and begin to change their clothes. They change into black suits, ties, and black dress pants. These are their disguises so they can pass through the security in the headquarters.

When Angel gets out, he sees Luis is already dressed up in his suit.

“How do I look?” Angel asks.

“Well, all I can say is nobody will stop you. Besides you look like you’re a Croatian. As for me, I better shave my beard off.” Luis answers.

“When we get to the hotel, you can shave. First we gotta find out where Hybrid’s HQ is located.” Angel tells Luis.

Luis nods his head and the two head towards the airport exit. When they leave, they finally smell the air in Croatia. The temperature is rather warm as it’s still later summer. However, today is a rather abnormally cool day with temperatures only getting up to 65. The sky is also rather cloudy as well even though there is no rain falling.

“No sun, but gotta admit it’s nice to get away from the concrete jungle of New York. Wouldn’t you say Luis?” Angel asks.

“Yeah bro, it’s nice and cool out here. I wonder who’ll drive us to the hotel.” Luis asks.

“My friends, are you from the USA?” A man overhears the two talking and says in a Slavic accent.

The man has blond hair, average height, and is clean shaved. He is wearing a plaid shirt with khaki pants. Nothing too suspicious about the man Angel or Luis can see.

“Umm… yeah we are. You speak English?” Angel asks.

“Not perfect, but I speak good English. Where are you going?” The man asks trying not to show his lack of English proficiency.

“We got a room in the Hotel Ivan. You know how to get there?” Luis answers.

“I know how to go there. Get in my car.” The Croatian man says fast with his accent.

“I’m sorry… I didn’t understand you. Can you talk a little slower, it’s your accent.” Angel responds.

“I’m sorrie, my English is not good. I was trying to say to get in my car so I can drive there.” The man says slowly so Angel and Luis can understand.

Angel and Luis nod their heads and enter the man’s car. The man is driving a red 2012 Toyota Camry and upon the men entering the car it looks like it’s in good shape. Angel and Luis are rather impressed that the driver has his car in good shape and feel better that they are being driven by a responsible person.

When the two are seated, Luis begins to write in his journal.

“I can’t believe that I left my family to come out here. I left my wife and daughter so I can go on this crazy adventure with Angel. The funny thing is I don’t think this is a farfetched adventure. I can actually see Angel’s point in having to come all the way out here.

If Barry was willing to kill us in exchange of partnering up with Hybrid, there’s no telling what else they’re capable of doing. As much as I hate to leave my family, but they’re in just as much danger if I were to stay out there waiting for Hybrid to make their next move. Hybrid thinks they got us, but we’ll show them who has who soon enough. One thing is to mess with me, it’s another if they start to mess with my family.” – Luis

After writing in his journal, Luis puts it away and simply ponders on what to expect. He barely talks to Angel and vice-versa. The man wonders why its so silent and asks them a question.

“What’s wrong my friends? Why are you quiet?”

“Oh, I didn’t know if you liked people to talk when you’re driving.” Angel replies.

“Oh I’m ok with talking. I like when I’m talking, it takes away stress.” The man answers.

“So do you mind answering this? Do you know where the Hybrid Corporation headquarters is located?” Luis asks.

“I’ve passed by there before, it’s on the south side of the country though. It’s a long ride down there.” The man answers.

“I’ve studied Croatia a little bit, what is the name of the city and what region?” Angel asks.

“The city is Split and it’s in the Dalmatia region. I don’t go there too much, so I can’t tell you how to go there. You have to get the map from someone. Sorry for my broken English.” The man answers.

“No it’s fine, I’m sure I can use my phone to find it on my phone, thanks. You speak pretty good English actually.” Angel responds.

“Really? My parents sent me to school to learn English at youth. I hated it, but I guess it helps me make money driving Americans.” The man says.

They approach the Hotel Ivan which is about a half-hour away from the airport. The Hotel Ivan is located in the southern part of Zagreb. Once the man parks the car, Angel has one more question for the driver.

“Thanks for the drive. Here’s forty dollars which I’m sure will help you out. I meant to ask you, what is your name?” Angel asks.

“My name is Bernard and that is all I’ll say. Thank you for the money, good luck on you endeavors.” Bernard replies as he helps the two with their luggage and then drives off.

Once Angel and Luis get their luggage out of the car, they make their way inside of the hotel. Hotel Ivan has an architectural style that is traditional of Croatia with the classic red roof and red stucco. By the look of the buildings surrounding them, Croatia hasn’t abandoned the Roman/Byzantine style of construction. Looking at the marble at the hotel, it looks like it was built all the way back in the 1600’s or at least that is Angel’s estimate.

As they enter the hotel, they see a bunch of tourists walking around the lobby. The lobby has marble walls with gold moldings and has the look of a luxury hotel. There are statues of historical figures such as Nikola Tesla and artist Ivan Mestrovic that are displayed in the lobby.

Angel and Luis walk towards the receptionist table that is made out of a beautiful cherry wood. They begin to talk to the receptionist. The two can see a set of hotel room keys that go up to the fourth floor. The male receptionist gives them the keys to their room and tells them to go to room 406. Grabbing the keys, Angel and Luis head to the elevator up to their room.

Looking at the buttons on the elevator, the two see that they’re only five floors. However, they were only sets of keys for four floors.

“Hmm… I guess the fifth floor must be used for the maintenance staff?” Angel asks.

“Your guess is as good as mine brother.” Luis answers.

“Actually, the fifth floor is closed to the public for a much bigger reason. I heard that floor is haunted and/or being used for weird experiments.” A female says to the two.

Looking at her, Angel and Luis see she is an older lady around 50. Looking at her face it looks like she’s in desperate need of a vacation. She is wearing a black I Love NY sweater along with some gray sweats and white sneakers. By the looks of it she was probably in the gym and just got out.

“What makes you say that?” Angel asks with a chill going down his spine.

“I’ve been coming to this hotel for years as I come out to see my Croatian friend every year. Every time I come here I always hear noises coming from the fifth floor, strange ones at that. I’m not convinced those are regular noises, something is in this hotel.” The middle aged woman says.

“Hmm… did you ever think of going up there?” Luis asks.

“That’s a pretty dumb question to ask, but at the same time you got a point. The fifth floor is locked. The button on the elevator is locked and if you try to use the stairs, there are gates blocking the way up. There must be something really big up there if they don’t want anybody up there. The only way to get up there would to get a key for the gate or follow a guard that goes up there once in a blue moon.” The woman answers.

“Well, we won’t be here for long. I got a job interview tomorrow. I’m planning to move out here if I get this job. I heard life is better out here.” Angel responds.

“Well I wish you good luck, but I’m not sure Croatia might be perfect for you. Then again, I could be wrong.” The woman says as she walks out of the elevator when it reaches the second floor.

“Why did you tell her you have a job interview without saying where we’re going?” Luis asks.

“Now that’s a dumb question to ask! I don’t think it’s a smart idea to tell strangers that we’re going to the Hybrid Corporation Headquarters. Who knows if she’s a spy?” Angel answers.

“Well mister conservative you wasn’t exactly smart asking that Bernard man where the HQ was. He seemed to answer pretty quick don’t you think? Who knows if you can trust Bernard?” Luis plays defensive with Angel.

“I guess you’re right. For some reason I trust Bernard I guess.” Angel says.

“I hope you’re right about him being trustworthy.” Luis replies

The elevator reaches the 4th floor and the doors open. Angel and Luis get out of the elevator and begin to walk down the hall to look for their room. After two minutes the two find room 406. Using the key, Angel opens the door and enters the room.

The room has a look of a 18th century bedroom with dark brown wallpaper and a cherry wood bedroom. The chairs in the room look like they were made back in the 18th or 19th century, Angel or Luis are unable to tell though. Unpacking all their stuff, they see the sun beginning to set as they see the time has hit seven in the evening.

The two decide to go downstairs in more comfortable clothing to grab dinner. Heading downstairs to the restaurant, they find a selection of American cuisine and traditional Croatian cuisine. While Luis goes for a traditional American meal of Mac and Cheese along with a juicy steak, Angel goes for something from the Croatian menu.

Angel looks at the Croatian menu and decides to get a plate of venison with a side order of sataras, which are sliced and stewed summer vegetables. Despite the bill being on the expensive side, the two of them know it will be their last good meal for a while.

Once the dishes are done, the waiter comes in to deliver the meals. The two dig into their meals and try to enjoy their meal. While Luis is digging into his meal like he’s never eaten before, Angel on the other hand eats his meal slower thinking about what the middle-aged woman was saying about the closed off 5th floor.

“While I know I won’t be here for more than one day, but I can’t help but to think that there is a secret within this hotel. At the end of the day I might be overthinking all this and I should be worried about breaking into Hybrid’s HQ. However, if there’s nothing big on the fifth floor why keep it such a secret?

Well whatever, I need to get some sleep. I got a long drive tomorrow, hopefully the rental car is ready for tomorrow.”

After thinking in his head, Angel finally finishes his meal. He and Luis grab some cash to pay the bill and tip. The waiter is grateful for the generous tip. The two leave the restaurant and walk towards the elevator. Taking the elevator up, the two get off when it reaches the 4th floor. When they get to their room, they change into their bed wear and each grab a bed for themselves.

The clock reads ten o’clock local time and the two of them prepare to sleep knowing they have to get up early to pick up the rental car not too far from where they are.

“Time to get some shut eye brother, who knows if we’re be able to get any when we get to headquarters.” Luis says before he hits the sack.

Angel nods without saying a word and tries to hit the bed. His head hits the pillow and he actually lies down as there is no moonshine due to the fact there is a new moon. What he doesn’t know is that his girlfriend Maria barely escaped from New York. As for Luis, he is unaware that his house in Queens, NY is all but destroyed and there is a chance that he might not return home to his family. Angel is able to sleep for about a half hour until a loud noise wakes him up.

The clock reads five minutes to ten as he gets up from the bed. Luis is still asleep. Angel doesn’t wake up Luis up until he’s sure of what the noise is. With no gun, he has to be careful in case it is anything out of the ordinary. Opening the wooden door slowly, he walks to the hallway carefully looking both ways before he gets out of the room.

At first he doesn’t see anybody in the hallway, but there is a strange smell in the hallway that he remembers from NY. He recognizes the smell when he was getting his operation in the hospital and the zombie outbreak took place. Walking to a cabinet in the hallway, he opens it and finds a wooden spike inside that he grabs.

  Game Start…

  Condition: Fine

Picked up a Wooden Spike. Not much of a weapon, but you’ll take it. It might come in handy to defend yourself.

Walking down the hall to the right, he looks around looking for anything suspicious but finds nothing. He turns around and walks the other way keeping his eyes open.

“Anyone there? If you’re there let me know, I don’t want to hurt anyone.” He says in a low tone trying not to wake anyone up, but gets no response.

Walking to the other side of the hall, he sees the room numbers going down. Without warning, he hears a gunshot and runs towards the end of the hall. As he’s running, another two gunshots can be heard. Angel slows down as his heart rate increases as he’s moving into a potential dangerous situation. When he approaches the stairway, he is greeted by a disturbing sight.

He spots a human in its pajamas eating what looks like to be an armed hotel guard that was patrolling the hallway.

“Oh my God…” Angel says in shock as he looks what looks like to be a zombie.

The human is eating the guard with the blood spreading all over the floor. The guard’s arm has been torn apart from his body and his abdomen has been mutilated as well. Angel realizes that only one thing could have done this and the human eating the guard isn’t really human.

With his wooden spike, he stabs the human in the head. The spike goes through the brain and part of the brain can be seen sticking out from the head. Angel is at first disgusted by the sight and nearly pukes his guts out. He’s able to hold it in though as he studies the dead body.

The dead body is pale in color and looks like its skin has lost all color and life. Touching the skin, it feels rough and pulling on its hand, the hand comes off the arm rather easily. With those observations, Angel realizes that he is looking at a zombie.

“I knew that smell was familiar, looks like the same gas that Hybrid used to infect the hospital. Looks like they’re up to their old games again, but why here? Do they know we’re here or we’re coming to their headquarters?” Angel says to himself.

He sees a gun that the guard was using. As unethical as it might be, Angel decides the gun will prove more useful to him than the dead guard in case there is a zombie outbreak.

Picked up a Handgun. It’s a Zastava M57, the common handgun used by Croatian law enforcement. It uses 7.62 x 25mm rounds. It’s a pistol that is loud and does average damage. It has a small amount of recoil, making it tough to use at first. Pistol Ammo: 6

Before he goes, he also finds a pistol clip as well.

Picked up a Pistol Clip. It’s a clip of 9 rounds for the Zastava M57.

+9 Pistol Ammo. Pistol Ammo: 15

After getting the extra ammo, he heads back to his room so he can warn Luis. Before Angel can get to his room, he sees a zombie pop through a door that it opens. The zombie walks towards him ready to bite him. Angel uses the gun that he just got from the dead guard and shoots three rounds into the zombie’s head before it goes down.

-3 Pistol Rounds. Pistol Ammo: 12

When the body falls to the ground, he sees the blood coming from its head and keeps it moving to his room before anymore zombies come out. Angel runs until he gets into room 406 and sees Luis is awake.

“What was that Angel and why do you have a gun?” Luis asks in shock.

“Listen Luis, Hybrid… is up to their games again. It looks like… the hotel has been infected… by zombies.” Angel answers while catching his breath.

“What? How do you know?” Luis asks.

“I saw a guard eaten alive by one of these monsters. Then a zombie came out from another room and tried to attack me. I shot it three times in the head until it went down.” Angel answers.

“Crap, I better find a gun soon. It looks like we gotta get out of here. Knowing this infection, it might have spread throughout the rest of the hotel. We’re not safe here brother.” Luis says with a concerned tone.

“Agreed. We might have to steal a car if we’re going to go to the headquarters, but it is what it is. One thing that bugs me is that why did this outbreak happen now, when we’re here? It’s almost like they were waiting for us. I got a funny feeling that this might have been a trap or someone told Hybrid we were coming.” Angel comes up with a theory.

“Yeah your boy Bernard probably snitched on us. He might be a spy for Hybrid trying to entrap us.” Luis answers.

“You might be right, but how would he know we were coming here.” Angel responds.

“You’re right about that, but our first priority is survival. What are you looking for?” Luis asks when he sees Angel looking around in the room.

“I’m trying to find something you can use to defend yourself.” He replies.

Angel looks around the room and bumps into a metal case that he opens. Upon opening, he finds a gun.

“Well, what do we have here?” Angel says cheerfully.

“There’s a gun inside.” Luis replies.

“Better take it with you.” Angel tells Luis.

Luis picks up a Handgun. It’s a Whalter PK380. It uses .380 ACP rounds and carries up to an 8-Round magazine. It has no recoil at all making it a user-friendly weapon. This is a pistol normally used by Croatian Special Forces. It deals average damage to enemies. It has a full clip inside along with an extra clip.
