“I still have a few loose ends to tie here…”
“Hey Bill! Bill!” Angel gets cut off from Bill due to poor signal.
The automated voice repeats the self-destruct message and the fact everyone has to get out. Bill blocks that from his mind and begins his trek to the vaccine room.
He rushes through the waiting room and a flesher pops out from a vent above him. Despite the jump scare, Bill simply runs by the creature knowing he has no time to waste. Arriving on the top floor he sees more ivies blocking his way, he has a couple more flame rounds to waste on the ivies. The fire from the flame rounds kills the ivies. He gets to the main hallway and heads for the east area where he unlocks the vaccine room with the keycard.
Entering the vaccine room he sees the room is filled with green slime and a giant moth has made the room home. He sees the cartridge for the vaccine, but the moth is blocking it. Normally moths aren’t dangerous, but apparently this moth has been exposed to the broken arrow virus causing it to grow dramatically.
Bill tries to shoot it with the grenade launcher, but that only angers the moth. The moth comes toward him and begins to spray poison from its mouth. He manages to get away from the green poisonous gas, but the moth latches onto him ready to eat him. It’s too risky to use the grenade launcher, so he pulls out his trusty survival knife and slashes the right wing. Green blood begins to come out of the moth and it loses its grip on him. Bill finishes it off by slashing its left wing killing it for good.
He grabs the cartridge and finds the VAM machine. He puts in the cartridge and activates the machine. After a few seconds the process is complete and the base vaccine is finished. Now he has to go back to the A-2 lab area to turn the base vaccine into the finished product. Before he leaves though, he finds a Floppy Disk. He reads the disk and it reads, “To use for the blast door in the downstairs waiting room.”
“Nice, now I got a way to get out of this place, hopefully Angel has his girlfriend and I won’t be late with the antidote.” He says in his head.
After getting out of the vaccine room he rushes downstairs and he’s met by zombies in their flesh without clothing. He blows all of them up with his grenade launcher. He notices that he’s running low on grenades. Then he sees the dead flesher that was eaten by the zombies.
Eventually he reaches the A-2 lab area and inserts the base vaccine into the machine. Activating the machine, he waits for a minute and the vaccine is complete. It’s a blue liquid and he puts it in his side pack, hopefully not cracking open.
Heading back to the waiting room, he sees the blast door and uses the floppy disk on the computer to open the blast door. A hallway is seen and he continues until he reaches the experimental storage room and sees the elevator leading to the emergency platform. He gets to the elevator to activate it, but it takes it sweet time and the automated voice announces that only ten minutes remain until the lab explodes.
Then a loud monstrous scream can be heard above him and a few seconds later, Anthony crashes down from ceiling. The final battle between Bill and Anthony will be decided… Will Bill survive and catch up with the others?
Chapter 9
After Anthony drops into the room, Bill sees the third mutation of the creature. Anthony’s human face can no longer be seen, as it has been swallowed up by the virus spreading. Anthony begins to attack with his huge claws, but Bill backs up quickly to avoid the attacks. The claws hit the embryos capsules letting all the liquid out along with the dying experimental embryo.
“Damn this bastard isn’t going away and the elevator is taking its sweet time getting up here. Ok Anthony, you want some of me? Come get some!” He says nervously but confidently trying not to show any fear to the creature.
He begins to shoot the creature with the grenades that he has left. While the grenade rounds do hurt Anthony, but only in a minor way backing him up. He realizes he only has 5 grenade rounds left and he’s stuck in the room as the door behind him closes and locks.
Anthony runs towards Bill and begins to attack him. He dives to the right causing the creature to hit the wall giving him time to get out of the way. He doesn’t shoot Anthony as he’s looking for a weak spot on the creature. The mutated Anthony jumps on top of the embryos capsules, Bill runs around the room wondering where Anthony will land. Anthony jumps down to the surface and approaches Bill from behind. Bill sees a shadow and that’s the only reason he’s able to avoid being ambushed from behind.
Bill shoots a grenade right into the creature’s head and the creature kneels down holding its claws close to itself. Then it jumps up and bull-rushes him again. Once again Bill is able to avoid the attack, but this time he shoots Anthony with his remaining grenade rounds and the creatures drops down face first.
“Oh thank god! I beat him! Come on elevator what’s taking so long? If this continues I’ll be blown up to shreds!” He says as he impatiently waits for the elevator to come up.
After about 15 seconds the elevator still hasn’t come up and Anthony begins to get up to Bill’s shock. When Anthony gets up he begins to mutate again he turns into a four legged creature and its front opens up with spikes sticking out along with a huge mouth to swallow up any victims.
Another huge problem is that Bill has no more rounds for the grenade launcher and his handgun won’t do any meaningful damage to Anthony.
“Damn hopefully there’s something I can find to kill this bastard or else!” He says.
Anthony rushes towards Bill in an attempt to spike him. However he’s able to dodge him and then Anthony jumps back up on top of the capsules. The creature surprises Bill by jumping in front of him. It begins to extend its spikes to impale him, he runs back the other way trying to avoid the creature.
The automated voice indicates that there are only six minutes left until the laboratory explodes. Anthony begins to run across the room chasing Bill, who is trying to find a way to lose the creature or at least find something that he could use to defend himself. Eventually he does find a weapon, but it’s behind a glass casing that he punches to break it open. However before he can grab the weapon, Anthony shows up.
He grabs the weapon still unaware of what it does before Anthony uses his spikes to grab him. Anthony opens his mouth wide ready to swallow Bill whole, Bill keeps fiddling with the weapon trying to shoot it off. As he is close to entering the big mouth of the creature, he manages to pull the trigger of the weapon. The weapon shoots off a blast of 5000 volts of electricity. The impact forces the creature to loosen its grip of him. The blast is strong enough to injure the creature and opens the opportunity for Bill to take out it out.
“Oh yeah, it’s time to cook your goose for good, there’s no way you’ll survive this!” Bill says arrogantly ready to finish off Anthony.
He shoots two more blasts of electricity from the zap-gun to finish off Anthony who falls and begins to rot on the floor. After a few seconds the elevator finally arrives to Bill dissatisfaction.
“Wow finally, only nearly cost my damn life but it’s here! Now hopefully the others are alright.”
The elevator reaches the platform. He sees the escape train and enters it. He sees Maria is lying in the train that has yet to be started. Asking Maria where Angel is, she responds with the little energy she has by telling him that Angel went to the power room in the back of the platform. After that she falls back asleep and drifts into unconsciousness. Bill heads for the back part of the platform to look for Angel.
The automated voice says loudly that there are only 4 minutes remaining until the lab self-destructs. Then he uses the stairs to get to the back part and once he’s down a door can be seen. He enters the door and it leads to the power room.
Inside the power room he sees Angel is down and another monster is threatening to claw him to death. Using the zap-gun he just acquired he’s able to kill off the monster known as Mr. Z and rescue Angel. Angel is still unconscious, so Bill picks him up and takes him back to the train.
When they arrive at the train Bill lays Angel down and begins to take care of him of his wounds. Angel wakes up afterwards.
“Hey Bill, what are you doing here. Don’t tell me you died as well?”
“No, you haven’t died. I saved your butt back there against that creature. You should be back to health soon. Now I hope the antidote will help your girlfriend out.” Bill begins to inject the vaccine into Maria.
“Come on baby wake up please!” Angel begs.
“Not now, please get up Maria!” Bill yells until Maria opens her eyes.
“Hmm… where am I?” She asks.
“You’re alive, thank you Bill!”
“You’re welcome Maria. I’m glad she’s well. Now get this train started, will you?” He orders Angel.
“No problem boss!” Angel says as he opens the gates and starts up the train.
The train starts up and begins to move. It pulls out of the station as the lab self-destructs.
“Ah… It’s all over!” Bill says relieved.
“No.” Angel says with Bill looking at him shocked. “It’s up to us to get out of town and exposes Hybrid for who they really are.”
After those words, Bill checks on Maria and says, “I’m glad you’re ok sweetie.”
“So am I and I’m glad we’re all ok. Can we go home Angel?”
“I’m afraid not, the destruction is too much and the best thing we can do is to get out of town.” Angel says as he walks into the engineer's room.
Bill and Maria hug each other as they have formed a great bond after the survival horror experience. The train makes a hard right as it gets closer to the outside world. However, to everyone’s shock the alarm on the train goes off...
The Great Escape
Final Chapter
The alarm keeps going off indicating the three survivors aren’t home free just yet.
“What was that?” Bill asks.
“Hey that doesn’t sound good at all, what do you think it is?” Maria asks the same question.
The automated voice on the train says, “Warning! The back brakes have failed, this train will derail. Repeat, this train will derail. Please activate the emergency brakes in the back of the train.”
“What! No way, this train isn’t stopping! You gotta be kidding me, for us to come all the way out here only to die in a derailing train?” Angel reacts.
“Well how about you check it out, I’ll stay here with Maria and see if I can find any other way to stop this train. It’s only going faster every second!” Bill orders Angel to check the back of the train.
Angel heads out of the car to the back car and notices that the door behind him makes a clicking noise. He goes back to open the door, but it’s locked.
“Hey what gives?” Angel asks.
“I have no idea, the door won’t open. I just hope the door to the front isn’t locked either.” Bill answers.
The automated voice says, “Warning! Bio-Hazard threat detected, automatic security locks activated. The doors will open upon clearance of the threat!”
“Shit! There’s another surprise for me then just beyond those doors. It better not be who I think it is. I better hurry or this train is going to derail and who knows what we’ll hit.
Angel heads to the back car of the train and at first the path to the emergency brakes is clear. However, when he approaches closer to the brakes, the ceiling collapses and the mutated Mr. Z is back for revenge. Also some live wire comes down as well, one false move and Angel will be toast.
“I should have known, you again. I guess Hybrid really wants me dead that badly, huh? Well give me your best shot, you ugly piece of shit!” Angel says to Mr. Z.
Mr. Z goes after Angel by trying to run and claw him, but he’s able to sidestep to the right of the attack. He shoots Mr. Z with his magnum and injures the creature. However, he comes up with a better way to kill Mr. Z. He plans to use the live wire to try and electrocute the creature just like Bill was able to take Mr. Z out with the zap-gun.
However, it won’t be easy as he has to get the creature to follow him to the live wire and right now he’s on the opposite side of the car. He keeps up with Mr. Z’s attacks but realizes his injuries are catching up to him and takes a hit with the backlash of a claw attack that takes him down to the floor. He shoots his magnum and aims it in the face. The bullet hits the face of the creature causing hit to back up and kneel down giving him time to get up and recover.
Angel begins to run towards the back of the car towards the live wire. However, he slips and Mr. Z is able to catch up with him. Mr. Z begins to attack him again and he’s able to roll away from the thrust of the claws. After that he gets up and does a backflip. After getting Mr. Z to back away, Angel runs to the back of the car again. The creature gives chase to him and grabs him by his throat.
Mr. Z laughs sinisterly as he begins to choke Angel senselessly, putting pressure with its claws attempting to puncture his throat. Angel begins to lose his breath and turns blue as he begins to pass out. Out of nowhere a red laser can be seen and then a bullet, probably that of a sniper rifle strikes Mr. Z’s head. The impact forces the creature to drop Angel, another bullet is shot to the head of the creature. Angel has no idea who could have shot Mr. Z, but doesn’t care as he’s simply trying to survive.
Angel is able to recover and sees Mr. Z is down at the moment. He seizes the opportunity to make his move towards the live wire. When he gets to the wire, Mr. Z gets back up and walks to Angel.
Angel plays weak and acts like he’s given up to gain the confidence of Mr. Z. However, when Mr. Z gets close, he grabs the wires and thrusts them into the creature’s body.
“This should give you quite the shock, aww you don’t like too much juice? Oh… that’s too bad, goodbye and good riddance!” He says in a sinister tone, almost like he’s enjoying the fact he’s killing what was his biggest fear.
Mr. Z burns to ashes, but the electrical attack also caused the electrical circuit to short out. As a result the locks on the doors have been overridden. He heads back to the front of the train as time is running out until the train derails.
“Bill and Maria!” Angel screams out to the two as he enters the front of the car. “I got rid of the menace that was in the back, I really don’t know how I did it…”
“That doesn’t matter, we gotta stop this train. Maria told me she thinks there is another pair of brakes in the engineer's room. Maria, where are you?” Bill asks as Maria has already entered the room.
“Now which button is it? Hmm… it is this one?” She sees a red button with caution stripes around it and hits it.
Upon hitting the button the loud screech of the brakes can be heard as the front brakes are stopping the car. However without the back brakes the train begins to experience major turbulence forcing everyone to hang on for dear life, lest they be thrown around the car. After a minute or so the train finally comes to a full stop and when the three come out of the car the sun has risen.
They find themselves in a hidden part of the East New York Industrial Park. While the sun might be shining, the scene is anything but shining. In fact, it is dark in nature. All that can be seen is the destruction caused by the Hybrid virus spreading. All the buildings can be seen empty, windows broken, several buildings burning, and many dead bodies, many of which are zombies.
“I hate to say it, but I was right. We can’t stay here, we have to get moving.” Angel says.
“You mean we can’t go back home?” Maria asks her boyfriend.
“Baby, hold my hand. I’m afraid we cannot, this is when we have to be at our strongest. I love you honey, but we’ll have to make our love nest elsewhere.”
“That’s ok, as long as I’m doing this survival mission with the love of my life. Let’s go to Canada, I’m sure it must be safe up there, it’s always safe up there.” Maria replies and the couple shares a kiss.
“Glad to see you two guys keeping your composure. It’s up to us to take out Hybrid and their army of freaks. We can move to safety, but as long as these creators of destruction still exist, we’ll continue to be threatened. So how about we get armed to the teeth and head for the Hybrid HQ in Cali to show those guys what we're made of!” Bill says and the others nod in encouragement.
A rescue chopper descends down to the surface ready to pick up the three. The three head into the chopper and prepare to be taken to safety. As for their hometown, it will most likely be gone forever and will be demolished for what knows what. The three can’t help but feel remorse that they will be unable to go back home after witnessing all of the destruction that has taken place below them. All they can do is be thankful that the sun is out and that they are amongst the few survivors of the infestation of zombies.
Angel says, “Somebody helped me to defeat that creature in the train, too bad I don’t know who it was.”
“Really babe? You must have a guardian Angel then.” Maria replies.
“Babe, there’s something I have to tell you. I met your sister, Leslie. The only thing was that I had no idea that was your sister, anyway she was looking for you.”
“Really, after years of torment, she wanted to ‘fix’ things?” Maria replies nastily.
“Listen Maria, she said she was sorry for everything that happened to you and she approved of us being together. Leslie loved you and would be willing to do anything to rectify things with you.”
“Oh, so where is she?” She asks.
“I’m afraid she never made it, something tells me though that she’s still alive. She’s the only one I know who could have shot the monster with such precision. However, even if she was still alive, she probably died of the explosion of the lab. I’m so sorry, Maria.” He says in a sad tone.
Maria begins to cry knowing she will never see her sister again and says, “I just want to get out of here…” Bill and Angel head over to comfort her.
“I know how you feel. I lost my wife as well, she was devoured by zombies. Let’s see where we go from here. It’s a tough reality, but chances are we might be the only four to have survived this massacre. It will take years to rebuild this city and many others. While we can rebuild, we cannot bring back our lost loved ones.” Bill lectures the two.
