Ultimate Nightmare Set, page 21
part #1 of Angel's Nightmare Adventure Series
“About three o’clock in the afternoon there was a report of a man that was bitten alive by another man not too far from here. When I and my fellow guards came to apprehend the man we noticed he wasn’t acting normal. When we shot the man his skin was dry, wrinkly, and pale.”
“Just like the man I killed, it has to be a zombie.” Angel replies.
“Once we took the man down, a whole army of them came rushing in to the hospital. While we were able to take some of them out, there were too many of them. These zombie creatures have taken over the hospital and they have made a mess out of this place. Many fires have started in this place due to our efforts to kill the zombies. I suspect a hidden substance is behind is behind this. Months ago… several officers went to investigate the giant pharmaceutical company, the Hybrid Corporation. Rumors say they found some convincing evidence… but no one believed them and they’ve gone missing since. After those events, all this started to happen.” Afterwards Harrison groans in pain.
Angel responds emotionally, “Hang in there Harrison! I’m not letting you go that easily!”
Harrison responds, “Don’t worry about me, I know this must be hard on you at such a young age… Just rescue the survivors in the other rooms. Here… take this keycard it will help you around the hospital and take this handgun. I know you’re a kid, but you’ll need to defend yourself. Now go!!!”
“But!”
Harrison screams, “Just Go!!!”
Angel says, “Fine I’ll go, but I’ll be back. Just hang in there. We’re getting out of this place one way or another.”
He’s hesitant to leave Harrison as he is holding his right side, but understands that standing around won’t do him any good. He holds a Smith and Wesson handgun that he is handed by Harrison. He has never shot a gun before, but knows he’ll needs to learn as quickly as possible. Angel walks up to the ninth floor to see if he sees any survivors. He sees a couple of zombies approaching him, knowing there’s no way around them, he has to use the gun to kill the zombies.
For the first time shooting a gun, he is not too bad. He lands one head shot and the other zombie needing three shots to die. He needs to work on the recoil that he receives after shooting the pistol, which he has to get used to as he goes along.
Walking up to the 9th floor hallway, he finds some handgun bullets from the corpse of a dead guard. A couple of zombies show up who Angel kills off easily. He starts to investigate the individual rooms for any survivor’s, but finds none.
He’s caught inside a room when four of the dead bodies come to life all looking for a piece of him. The room contains an access card that Angel picks up. He uses his marital arts skills to kick one of the zombies away and then runs as fast as he can. More zombies come from the dead giving chase to him. Running out of ammunition, he decides that discretion is the better part of valor and makes a run for it.
He heads down towards the seventh floor. Ideally he wants to get down to the first floor. However two problems arise, one he doesn’t want to leave Harrison or any other survivors behind. The second problem is that the stairway heading down is blocked by tall flames. He decides to head into the seventh floor and finds even more bullets for his handgun. He kills a couple of zombies who are all burned up after getting caught in the flames.
The 7th floor is where ICU is located. He heads into a storage room where a zombie lying down is playing dead. He does not fall for the trap instead using a lead pipe onto the zombie’s head killing it. Upon exploring the storage room, he finds more bullets for his handgun and also a riot shotgun used for more dangerous situations.
Angel says to himself, “Well this is one of those dangerous situations, so I’ll gladly take it. Angel overhears a sound of a frog and says, “Hmm… where is that ribbit coming from?”
He heads out of the storage room carefully and all of a sudden a frog like creature comes down. At first, he’s nervous to face the frog like creature. The frog sticks out its tongue. While normally that wouldn’t be a big deal, however these frogs are three times the size of normal frogs and their licks are poisonous.
To add insult to injury the tip of their tongues has a spike that is able to cut and slash their victims. He quickly dodges the licks by the frog and luckily so as the lick is powerful enough to cut through a glass window. He waits until the frog opens its mouth and then blasts it with his shotgun he just found. Angel catches his breath and breathes a sign of relief.
Exploring another room, he finds an access card to the sixth floor. Out of nowhere the ceiling above him collapses and he’s able to get out of the way just in time before getting crushed by the rubble.
Angel says, “Wow that was close! This place is falling apart need to get out of here as fast as I can!”
He hears footsteps towards the central part of the floor, so he heads to the central part of the 7th floor. Again the footsteps are heard going into the ICU office. He continues to follow the footsteps into the office and finds a switch to turn on the light, surprisingly the lights still work.
He searches high and low for anything living saying, “Anybody here? If you are a survivor please come on out, I’m not going to hurt you!”
He heads to the back of one of the cubicles and spots a young girl kneeling as she’s trying to hide from someone.
When the girl sees him, she runs screaming, “Ahhhh! Let me go!” Then he grabs her.
He says, “Easy… Easy there I’m not a zombie! You’re safe now “(The girl hugs Angel in comfort) “My name is Angel, what’s yours?”
The girl replies, “My name is Maria.”
“What are you doing here?”
“My mom called and told me to go the hospital because it was too dangerous to stay at home. You’re not dressed.” Maria notices that Angel is still in his patient outfit.
Maria is a girl who’s about 2 years younger than Angel. She is as smart as him, but much more timid than he is. However, she does have a beautiful face, which catches his attention. Another thing he notices is that she looks like a girl who will be faithful and blossom if she opens up.
Angel says, “Your mom was probably right, but it’s dangerous here as well. Come stick with me, I protect you I promise.”
Maria replies in a tone of panic, “There’s something out there, I don’t know what it is. It’s much bigger then those zombies and he’s after me!” She runs away from him while he screams her name out.
He thinks to himself zombies and frogs are only the beginning. It’s going to be a long night considering that he’s by himself and his parents are dead. Not to mention, the only survivor has run away in fear.
Chapter 3
Angel has no idea where Maria took off to, but by the looks of it she went upstairs. He figures that he should go to the sixth floor first. That is where the security level is located and where the elevator controls is located. He heads downstairs where he meets more zombies that he kills off.
He walks into the hallway where a large group of zombies are eating a human body. Angel watches in terror as the carnage is unfolding in front of him. He notices that in order to get to the security area and activate access for the first floor. Angel needs to get pass the zombies. Walking slowly and nervously he tries to get around the zombies, he needs to conserve his ammo.
He says trying to keep his cool, “Oh my god, just keep calm Angel as long as they don’t see you they can’t touch you.”
He sneaks around the zombies and manages to go around them. Then he heads to the security room where the access control system is located. At the age of 17 he doesn’t know much about these systems, but the important thing is that he sees a keycard slot.
The slot reads, “To override lock on first floor exit and back exit, a keycard is required.”
A memo is also found in the room saying that the keycard for the override is located in the 12th floor. The access keycard for the 12th floor is located in the basement. He reads the rest of the memo. The memo indicates that to get to the basement a heart key is needed, but it’s locked in a safe in the first floor east office.
He’s able to see three numbers of the combination, but the digit in the third slot is missing. A grenade launcher is next to him as well and he quickly grabs it. It is a bit heavy, but he’s able to hold it properly as he is rather strong for his age.
He uses the grenade launcher to clear the zombies that are eating up the human body.
Angel says in confidence, “Eat that zombie freaks!” He continues to explore the sixth floor, but finds nothing of interest.
He makes his way down to the first floor using the stairway, but the path to the first floor is blocked by the front of a crashed helicopter.
Angel says in his head, “What the hell happened here? It must have been a really crazy scene, when I was asleep!”
He’s forced to go to the second floor which is always rumored to be the “Mysterious Floor” as almost nobody would go up to that floor. Only special employees would go up to the second floor. In fact, the second floor has always been inaccessible even from the elevator. He wonders why, as he enters the 2nd floor he enters a hallway that is on fire.
He spots a couple of zombies, but decides to save his ammo by using the door ahead of him. When he walks through the door, it becomes clear why the 2nd floor was never mentioned. There’s also a rumor that a loud roar can be heard coming from the 2nd floor, but the origins are unknown. The hallway is eerie and greenish like what you would see in a Victorian era hospital.
The walls are dusty and in bad shape, the smaller rooms are filled with spider webs along with beds that are older than his grandfather. All of a sudden he sees two huge tarantula spiders ahead. His heart begins to pound as he suffers from arachnophobia (Fear of spiders). However, he does have a grenade launcher still loaded. He takes a shot at the spiders, but the grenades hits only one of the spiders. The other spider begins to crawl as a rapid pace towards him and he moves back as fast as he can.
He says hysterically, “Oh shit he’s coming right for me. Shit the door behind me is full of zombies. Well it’s time to face my fear of spiders!”
He runs forward avoiding the poison spit that was being shot at him by the spider. The spider tries to attack him with its legs, but by some miracle it misses him. He takes advantage of the spider leaving its self open by blasting it with his shotgun killing it.
He says in relief, “Wow that was too close, I’ll be having nightmares about spiders chasing me for the next few days.”
Angel walks down the hall and figures out that the second floor was left abandoned. He asks himself, why the hospital would leave the second floor to rot. What is on this floor that has the employees running scared? He sees a door leading to the first floor, but it is locked and requires a key. Not a normal key, but a key that would open a Victorian Era style door. He moves on forward and sees another door ahead. Before he gets his hand on the door, the ceiling collapses on top of him.
Angel gets out of the way from the falling rubble from the ceiling. However, the kicker is that through the rubble a creature with a pale white face along with a red trench coat comes crashing in. He begins to empty bullets onto the creature, but the creature doesn’t go down or even budge for that matter.
He says hysterically once again, “What the hell is this thing? No don’t tell me, Mr. Z the creature from the video game that never dies, shit he probably has the key though. There’s gotta be some ammo hiding around here somewhere!” Angel recognizes the creature as one he would kill in his video game, only this time it’s not a game.
He heads back to the area where the spiders were and finds some grenade rounds. Before he gets an opportunity to use them, Mr. Z grabs and throws him, then cornering him. Mr. Z then puts his hands together trying to knock him out with a double-axe handle punch. He’s able to crawl out of the way. He blasts a grenade to Mr. Z and the creature finally goes down. He looks inside the pockets and finds the key to the door leading him to the first floor.
He says with some relief, “He may be down, but if this is like my video game back home he’s not out. He’ll be chasing me through out this whole place. I need to start gathering some more ammunition, find Maria, and more importantly find an escape plan.”
He opens the door with the key. It is an unusually heavy door for the current time period. After opening the door he sees a set of stairs leading downstairs to the first floor. After Angel takes the stairs, Mr. Z gets right back up ready to strike again.
Chapter 4
Angel heads down the stairs, the stairs lead him outside through a side area of the hospital. There are dogs on the other side of the fence and they are trying to jump over the gate to attack him. Luckily for him, the gate is high enough so that the dogs can’t get inside.
He finds some shotgun shells along with some handgun bullets, which he desperately needed next to the door on a desk. After picking up the goodies he heads through the gray door and to his luck he finds himself right in the East office where the safe is located. Now is it a blessing or a curse that remains to be seen.
He finds even more ammo inside a locker where he finds grenade rounds, shotgun shells, and handgun bullets. However, there is no telling what else is lurking in his hospital. Not to mention that Mr. Z isn’t really dead, but Angel probably has the idea that he will meet the creature again.
Angel heads into the actual office, zombies of different occupations such as doctors, officer workers, and janitors all stare at him. Angel prepares for battle and kills the first few zombies that he comes across with his pistol. One zombie tries to grab him from behind, but he’s able to get away before getting caught.
He kills more zombies as he continues to shoot his pistol. There is a larger number than he anticipates and he is grabbed by one of the zombies who try to bite him. He grabs a pen, takes it, and stabs the eye of the zombie to escape its grasps. Realizing there is a large group of zombies, he takes out his shotgun and begins to clean house. Finally after clearing the office of the zombies Angel hears a loud roar and it sounds very familiar.
Angel says angrily to himself, “Mr. Z I know you’re still alive, you’re not fooling anybody. I’ll be waiting for our next meeting. I just hope Maria is ok and we can get out of here as quickly as possible, we maybe running out of time here!”
He goes into a smaller room in the office where a zombie tries to ambush him, but he elbows the zombie right in the head. As a result, the zombie is beheaded and dies on the spot. He spots the safe that was mentioned on the memo back at the sixth floor.
Reading the memo, it shows the combination 4-6-?-1, the question mark represents the number that was ripped off. That simply means that he has to go through process of elimination and eventually he is able to figure out the combination as 4-6-0-1. Angel opens the safe finding some shotgun shells, a map, and a key that opens the basement. He takes a quick look at the map that he just acquired and sees that there are only eleven floors.
Angel thinks to himself, “The twelfth floor must be the roof I guess, better keep that in mind in case I can’t get out through the front door. What bothers me is why it isn’t marked on the map. Does this hospital have more secrets waiting to be revealed?”
He’s bothered by the fact that the memo mentions the 12th floor but yet on the map it is not shown. Perhaps the map is an older map that hasn’t been updated. It does still have the 2nd floor labeled although it isn’t being used. However, Angel isn’t going to let that stop him from escaping. There is a door to the right of him, Angel avoids it as it leads to the front door and there are probably zombies waiting for him on the other side. Instead he uses the heart key to unlock the basement.
He’s prepared for just about anything, as anything that could happen and has happened. He goes down the stairs and when he reaches the bottom he spots a couple of dogs. However, these canines are not friendly towards him. In fact, they’re malformed and try to maul him. He shoots the dogs with much remorse, killing them instantly.
He says in a sad tone, “Poor pups, I feel sorry that I had to shoot them. I love dogs with a passion, but it was either kill them or be killed. I have researched the Hybrid Corporation on my spare time. Now that I remember and from what I know they are a company that makes gas for medical use. Could it be an experiment totally gone wrong? There is no time to think about that, I have to get moving, time is not on my side.”
He takes a look at the hallway and sees this hallway contains many rooms. It includes a parking garage, an autopsy room, and a weapon storage room. The autopsy room is locked and so is the weapon storage room. He heads to the parking garage, hoping to find a way out. However, when he enters the garage is collapsed on the part leading to the exit. He hears the scream of a young girl, could that be Maria? When he gets to the back, he sees that it is indeed Maria. She is being chased by a frogger, which is Angel’s nickname for the frog like creatures.
Maria screams in agony, “Help me! Somebody come and help me, get this disgusting toad out of my face!”
Angel screams to the frog, “Hey frog face, how about picking on somebody your own size!” He blasts the frog with a shotgun blast and then goes to comfort Maria.
“Maria I was so worried about you, I’m glad I found you. It’s time for us to go, you’re coming with me.” She hesitates. Then he says with a high tone “Let’s go!”
Maria replies, “Ok Angel, I’ll go with you. Besides I need someone to protect from that man in the red jacket. He keeps looking for me, for some reason he wants me. I don’t know why?”
Angel says, “It doesn’t matter. We need to stick together if we are to survive this! That bastard could be anywhere. I met him and took him down, but I know he’s still alive. Hmm the key to the autopsy room, would you mind giving that key to me sweetie?”
Maria answers and hands him the key, “No, here you go Angel. Hey, I’m glad that I met you. I was so scared and still scared.”
Angel responds, “Yeah I’m scared out of my pants as well. I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m sure the Hybrid Corporation has an idea what is going on.”
