“As a result of his mutations, Anthony should have lost any memory of a being a human by now. To make matters worse every infected bio-weapon has the ability to implant embryos into other living creatures.” A scream of a girl is heard after Annette explains the situation.
“Maria!” Bill screams.
“There’s another survivor? You must get to her before he does, lest he got to her before we could.”
“Listen I keep going this way, you head towards the double doors and search there for any signs of her.”
The two go their separate ways to search for Maria. Bill heads across the platform and into a hallway used for gathering rubble that is in the disposal area. After spotting a huge blast door opened he sees Maria laid down not moving on top of garbage. Attempting to rescue Maria, an alligator pops out of the water pursuing Bill. He moves back to get distance from the animal and begins to shoot at the creature with no success.
He keeps running until he gets to the door to exit the hallway only to find that it’s electronically locked.
“Shit the door is locked, better find a way to kill this lizard or I’ll be his next tasty meal. Wait…” Bill stops himself as he sees a flammable canister.
He hits the button to let the canister out of the holding station and it falls in the path of the alligator. He keeps his distance from the animal until it takes a bite of the canister. One well placed shot with the grenade launcher causes the capsule to explode and the alligator’s face explodes as well causing it to die right away.
Once the alligator is dead he rushes towards Maria to make sure she’s ok. When he finally arrives, he finds that she is still down.
“Maria get up, come on get up!”
“Huh… Bill… is that you?”
“Yes it’s me honey, you’ll be alright. Sorry I lost you, are you alright?”
“No, my stomach is killing me. It’s burning me…”
Bill says in his head, “The embryo, she must be implanted with an embryo. She might not have much time before it hatches. I got to find an antidote quickly.
Then he says to Maria, “Come on, you got to try and get up.” She gets up and begins to follow Bill.
The two of them head to the sewer exit that Bill had spotted before and they head to a tram station. A railcar is already there waiting for the two of them to enter. Checking there is nothing out of the ordinary, he had her follow him into the car. After getting in the car they arrive to the next terminus area without incident. None of them know where they have ended up...
Chapter 7
They get out of the car and find themselves in the basement of an art gallery. Bill sees a few zombies that he kills while Maria stands behind him for comfort. He heads for the stairway door which is locked and more zombies continue to chase the two of them. Eventually they find an open door and enter a storage room where they put heavy objects to block the zombies from breaking in.
While inside Maria finds a vent that she can fit into and at first Bill is hesitant to let her in there by herself. Later he realizes that staying in the room is too dangerous and they eventually will have to find a way out. Maria enters the vent and finds herself in the room next to the one she was in.
She sees a few fleshers in the next room and she walks quietly to avoid attracting the attention of the creatures. When she gets out of that room she heads into the mechanical room. In the room she sees several dead bodies of workers that used to work in the gallery. A ladder can be seen, climbing up the ladder she finds herself in the main hallway of the gallery.
Maria goes around trying to open all the doors only to find all of them locked. She even tries the door leading to the stairway, but that door is locked as well. She has no choice but to head upstairs to the second floor to see if she can find any keys or survivors.
She carefully heads upstairs where she sees a marble hallway with even more doorways. However, the majority of them are locked except one. The royal blue door opens with a statue of Perseus holding Medusa’s head. Medusa’s head has a key as well. Maria who tries to climb up the statue hears a hissing noise. She drops down from the statue to try and hide, but she meets a flesher who is ready to slash her.
However a survivor comes into the room and kills the flesher with his submachine gun.
“Who are you? You just saved my life.” Maria asks.
“No worries, I’m Carlos. I’m part of the NYPD special forces, what are you doing here?”
Carlos is a NYPD special officer that is in the force as an elite officer. He is of Columbian nationally and is in his upper twenties. He has a tan color, brown hair and has a clean face. He’s been in the force for about 6 years so far.
“Trying to do the same thing you are, surviving. My partner is stuck downstairs. I think this key may unlock the door.”
“Well there’s only one way to find out, right?” Maria nods her head in agreement with Carlos.
Once the two get to the stairway door, the key indeed does open the door and they head down to get Bill. Once Carlos cleans the zombies in the area, they let Bill know that it’s safe to come out. Maria introduces Bill to Carlos, but Bill knows him from the force.
After the short introduction the three of them head up to the main hallway. A flesher drops from below and beheads Carlos before he could even react. Bill turns around and kills the flesher, but the damage is already done.
“NO! Carlos! First it was Bobby, then the sarge and now Carlos? No, Hybrid you’ve gone too far with your experiments!” Bill says angrily.
“Ohhh… my stomach is killing me. Why is it hurting so much?” Maria says in pain.
“Oh man, I forgot, Maria.” Bill says in his head.
Bill sees a key that fell out of Carlos’s pocket. He picks it up and finds it opens the door to the first door to the right. The room is a normal library except that a secret passage is already unlocked. Could Carlos have been exploring beforehand a secret facility that Hybrid was hiding? A metal door is ahead and the two decide to enter through the door.
Upon entering through the door the two of them encounter zombies, but nothing that Bill can’t handle. As he looks around the building looks like it’s an abandoned facility that Hybrid converted to an art gallery to cover their tracks. They continue down the path until they reach the control room, which is still in working operation. Bill begins to get the idea that this facility is being used more than Hybrid wants the public to know. He opens the door leading out to the exit and what he sees shocks him…
The outside of the factory turns out to be a secret transport system, but to where. Bill suspects that it will take him down to the secret underground laboratory where he could get an antidote for Maria. The two approach the train car along with a panel with a key already inserted. The panel says: To start the car turn the key and the turntable will begin to descend.
He turns the key and the horns go off indicating that the two should begin to head inside of the car. After the two get inside of the car the turntable begins to start descending. What should be a comfortable ride to the laboratory is interrupted by a monstrous noise.
“Bill…” Maria says scared.
“Don’t worry, I’ll go outside and check it out.”
“My stomach is killing me…” She says before she passes out on the seat.
He heads outside to check on the situation, as he exits the panel warns that the door will be temporary locked until the danger has passed. Heading out of the car he hears the sound of claws. Arming himself with his grenade launcher, Bill walks around the car and then a pipe is thrown at him. Looking up he sees its Anthony, who is turning into his second mutation. His face is clearly seen being swallowed by the body and a head of an eagle popping out. Anthony also begins to grow a claw out of his right hand and jumps to slash Bill. However, Bill is able to get out of the way.
He shoots a couple of grenades to the creature which weakens it, but doesn’t kill it. Anthony tries to claw him, but Bill is able to backflip out of the way despite his middle-aged body. However, he doesn’t have time to shoot as Anthony bull rushes his direction. With little time to react, Bill dives to his right with the claw hitting the metal and barely missing him.
He shoots two more grenades, which weakens the creature even more but still doesn’t kill it. Anthony becomes even more aggressive and begins to claw relentlessly with Bill trying to avoid the attacks for his life. Only the sound of metal can be heard being clawed by the bioweapon.
Anthony manages to get him into a corner and readies for the final blow, until Bill rolls under the creature’s legs. After getting out of the corner he sees a crane holding an iron beam and figures the iron beam would fall on Anthony. That would at least keep him down if not kill him. He shoots the rope holding the beam and it falls on Anthony’s head.
Anthony falls on the floor hard and then gets up to the shock of Bill. However, Anthony jumps out of the turntable and hangs onto the wall. That is the creature’s way of saying that it will return soon. For now Bill is relieved that the creature is gone. He heads back inside of the car and once he enters the car the car arrives at its destination.
Carrying Maria on his arms he sees that he has entered the Hybrid Corp. underground laboratory. He sees the security room up ahead and decides to head straight there to drop Maria off. He lays her on the bed that is there and begins to comfort there.
“Maria, get up. Please get up!” Bill begs.
After a minute or so, Maria opens her eyes and says, “Bill? Is that you?”
“Yes it’s me and I’m going to help you get out of here. We can’t stay here in New York, it’s too dangerous. I hate to say it, but the monsters have taken over the city.”
“Oh my stomach hurts badly! But I’m glad to have you. You’re like a father to me.”
“Why you say that?”
“I wasn’t treated with love in my family. My father always favored my older sister and my other siblings. Only you and my boyfriend care about me.”
“Aww… don’t feel that way. I’m sure things will change, if they’re alive that is…” Bill pauses and asks her a question, “Maria, I need you to tell me the truth. Who is your boyfriend? I got a funny feeling that I know him. Don’t worry I won’t judge him.”
“Well he’s a great person who started his career as a cop in your precinct, just today…”
“No, it can’t be, Angel?” Bill asks in shock.
“Yes my boyfriend is Angel, Angel Medina.”
“I was with him earlier, but we got separated by the mayhem and we had to go separate ways. If I knew you were his girlfriend I would had him meet us together, why did you say anything?”
“I’m sorry, I was scared that he was dead and I didn’t want to burden you.”
“You’re not a burden to me at all, remember it’s my job to look after you, ok? Now just stay here, I’ll find something to get that stomachache cured. I’ll lock the door to make sure no one gets in, ok? You know how to use a gun?”
“Sort of, Angel showed me once.”
“So here take my backup pistol, just in case. I’ll be back, just rest here.”
Bill leaves Maria and heads to the first door that he sees. He knows he only has a certain amount of time to get the antidote or the embryos in Maria will hatch.
Chapter 8
Bill heads to the main hallway of the laboratory where he sees the fuse is missing and as a result the door leading to the west side is locked. He heads to the blue lit door that leads to the east side of the underground laboratory. Entering the door he sees a few zombies in lab coats that are roaming around. He takes care of them rather easily using his service pistol by shooting their heads.
The door in front of him which is the vaccine room is locked. However, it gives him a huge clue that the vaccine is probably inside of the room and he needs a keycard. Eventually he finds a door filled with permafrost that opens when he turns the handle on the door.
Entering the room, he sees experimental creatures frozen in capsules and finds the room is rather cold. After finding nothing at first he sees a fuse capsule that he grabs. Then he sees a machine that he can insert the capsule. Once he inserts the capsule the arm grabs it and inserts it into another hole. After a few seconds the fuse capsule has become the main fuse and he can now power the west side of the lab.
Heading back to the master fuse area, he inserts the fuse and the west side is now accessible. Entering the west area of the lab he sees the shaft can be opened, but a keycard is needed. So he heads for the door in the back hall instead and enters the researcher’s quarters. A lot of dead bodies lie, but none of them move. He finds a map of the laboratory and finds there is a downstairs level, making the keycard for the shutter that much more important.
He sees a computer to activate the anti-BOW spray designed to weaken the bioweapons. Turning on the spray, a green hue can be seen covering the room and spreading to the rest of the laboratory. A locker is open and he finds special flame rounds for the grenade launcher.
However when he gets out of the room, he sees the shutter is opened and two strange plant creatures appear in front of him called ivies. Unlike Angel these ivies do not spit acid poison, but the spit still burns from the high PH levels. Bill gets hit by the burning acid spit that strikes his arm.
The ivies use their vines to whip him around the hall. One of them tries to grab him, but he’s able to dodge out of the way. He quickly realizes that the creatures are living plants and plants are killed easily with fire. Getting a safe distance from creature he loads in the flame rounds and shoots the ivies. The creatures instantly go down and burn to ashes. The door leading down to the lower levels can be seen and he heads down.
When he reaches the lower level hallway he spots two black skinned fleshers. These fleshers have been enhanced with maturity from exposure to the virus. As a result their attack abilities have been bolstered up and their right claw is much longer/deadlier than their pink cousins. He walks carefully to get a good shot, but a flesher drops from above surprising Bill.
The flesher jumps on Bill and latches on to him. It attempts to slash him, but he’s able to grab the claw and hold back the attack. However the flesher begins to outpower him and the claw gets closer to Bill’s face. Bill has to think quickly, so he does an arm throw and takes down the flesher. Quickly he pulls out his self-defense knife and thrusts it into the flesher’s heart before it can recover.
As for the other two fleshers, he takes care of them using his grenade launcher. After going through the waiting area he enters the monitor room where he doesn’t see anything unusual on the cameras, so he moves on. He goes through another dark hallway until he finds the A-2 laboratory area.
A whole horde of zombies await him inside. Running out of bullets for his weapons he runs through the lab while avoiding the zombies. One of them manages to grab and bite him hard on the same arm where he got burned. The only way he’s able to get out is grabbing a knife on one of the tables and stabbing it on the zombie’s head.
He finally reaches the back desk where he sees a keycard on the table and grabs it. However, something odd takes place. The zombies begin to die off and fall to the ground. Bill realizes that the anti-BOW spray is taking effect on the creatures. After the zombies die out he sees the machine that makes the final vaccine for Maria, but he still has no idea of how to create the vaccine yet. However, he can now enter the vaccine room upstairs and find out how to make the cure for Maria.
However when he gets out of the A-2 lab area, he meets Annette who points her gun at him.
“You murdered my husband! I’ll never forgive you for that!” She takes a quick pause and then continues. “I have a sample of the ‘broken arrow’ virus here. This is my husband's legacy!” She says angrily.
“Look we have no time! I have a girl who need the vaccine to cure her. I think you should come with me.” Bill tries to knock some sense to her.
“What?” Annette hears a noise that sounds like Anthony. “My husband, it’s you!” She runs towards him. “Anthony you’re still alive!” She says in a reprieved tone. However the reprieve is short lived as Anthony in his third form claws his wife and Bill can hear her scream in pain. Anthony heads up the vent as soon as Bill arrives to attend to Annette.
“No! Anthony’s still alive. He’s getting stronger with each mutation he goes through. No, what have I done…” She says as she begins to die.
“Tell me what I need to know to help this girl out!” Bill demands.
Annette pulls out a document and says, “Everything you need to know to prepare the antidote is right here, read it, and I’m sorry for everything…” She manages to say before she dies of her wounds.
Reading the document, it indicates that its code named “DEVIL” and indicates that a cartridge must be obtained in the vaccine room where he is heading now. The cartridge must be inserted into the VAM activator where it will insert a white liquid or “base vaccine”. Then he must go back to the A-2 lab area and use the machine to create the actual vaccine using the base.
While the process isn’t tough at all, he knows he is in a race against time before the embryos hatch. However, that isn’t all though. An automated voice announces that the self-destruct sequence has been activated. Now Bill has two issues, one is the embryo in Maria and the other that he has to be out of the lab before it explodes.
He rushes towards the vaccine room until he hears a beep from one of the monitors in the camera room. Angel can be seen in one of the cameras, which shows him by the power room upstairs. He pages him on the radio.
“Hey Bill is that you? Where are you?”
“I can see you on the camera, but that’s not important. Angel I need you to get the girl for me…”
“You mean you found her?”
“Yes, she’s in the security room, but she’s not any girl. She’s your girlfriend Maria.”
“Maria? What’s she doing here?”
“It doesn’t matter. I need you to do me the favor, please!”
“Ok, but where are you going?”
