  Chapter 4

Bill heads back downstairs to see what door the key opens, he needs to move quickly so he doesn’t lose track of the girl. Once he heads down the stairs he sees a metal door down the hall and tries to open it only to find it’s locked as well.

“Damn this key doesn’t open this door either… wait a minute maybe it opens the Audio/Visual room.” Bill says to himself focusing on heading to the room.

He heads down the ugly green hallway until a couple of zombies pop out of the wall. The zombies pop out and give him quite the jump scare. He looks for his crossbow but doesn’t have it, so instead he pulls out his pistol to deal with the zombies. After killing the zombies he looks for his crossbow and realizes that it’s probably lost, so he forgets it and moves on.

As he approaches the hallway where he defeated the flesher, he sees the door to the AV room. He uses the key and to his surprise the door opens. He enters the AV room where the room is full of old files and old film archived from previous investigations. He searches through the items and the draws only to find nothing. Eventually he looks up and sees a flesher on the ceiling looking for its next victim.

Bill realizes that the flesher isn’t moving or even dropping down. He realizes that due to the mutation the flesher is unable to see, but makes up for the lack of sight with the increased ability to hear. So he tries to be as quiet as possible when he sees something flashing. However, the object is on top of a cabinet that requires the small ladder by him.

“Damn gotta be quiet as a pussycat if I don’t want to be chopped liver.” Bill says in his head as the creature continues to hiss in the background.

He slowly pushes the ladder towards the cabinet without making too much noise. His nerves are going crazy and his heartbeat increases significantly at the same time. However, he must remain calm as one false move will attract the attention of the flesher. Pushing the ladder slowly in the dark AV room, he keeps his eyes on the flesher to make sure the creature stays in its place.

The flesher remains in its place and Bill continues to push the small ladder towards the cabinet. His heart beats even faster when he approaches it even closer, the hissing gets even louder. He remains calm the best he can and thinks about using his grenade launcher, but decides he rather save the rounds for a bigger enemy. The flesher begins to crawl slowly on the ceiling as it begins to hear the noise. Bill stops moving to avoid alerting the flesher to his presence.

He moves the ladder a little more until he reaches the cabinet. After that he climbs up the ladder and finds another key. After grabbing the key he heads down the ladder and carefully heads out of the AV room and then catches his breath once again. He heads back up to the door, but is grabbed by hands from zombies who are hidden behind the wall. He fights off the hands and runs out of the hall.

After the jump scare he heads upstairs to the door where the girl went through, but he figures that he’s lost her already. He uses the key to open the heavy oak wood door and enters a strange reading room. Despite the look of the room he has no time to get deep as he spots Angel coming down a dark hall.

  “Angel!” Bill screams.

“Hey Bill, I’m glad you’re still moving. This place is crazy, watch yourself.”

“Have you seen a girl around here with a baby blue shirt?”

“Yeah you just missed her, who is she?”

“I don’t know Angel, but it’s too dangerous in here. Angel, you find us a way out of here and I’ll try to find the girl.”

“Sounds like a plan, but before I forget here’s a radio. That way we can keep in contact in case we get into any trouble. I hope my girlfriend is ok.”

  “Girlfriend?”

“Yeah I told my girl to hide in the station, too bad it’s almost as dangerous here as outside. However, I’ll find her. Just keep an eye out for the girl.”

“You’re sure learning quick Angel. Hopefully we can survive all this…” Bill says while Angel nods his head.

After taking the radio Bill heads through the red cherry wood door and finds himself in the library. He wonders why there is a library in the precinct especially one that is reminiscent of an 18th century library. He explores the library and its books. Most of the books are of chemistry, law and order, and corporal punishment. He pulls an odd looking blue colored book as he’s checking the books and the bookshelf to his right moves in, then moves to the right revealing a secret area.

The secret area is small containing a small square reddish/brown stone of a snake etched on it. He puts it away as he figures that the police station will probably have other secret passages. He heads out of the library back out to the hallway where he sees a group of zombies popping out of the windows. Not wanting to stick around, Bill runs through the hall until he gets to the other side of the hallway where the door of the waiting room lies. He heads into the waiting room where he gets away from the zombies.

He finds a lighter that he puts in his shirt pocket along with a diary of the secretary. While most of the pages are missing, based on what he reads he sees that the chief’s behavior has been getting stranger over the years. After reading the diary he heads out of the room into the hallway leading to the chief’s office. The hallway is burning and the flames block the entrance to the chief’s office.

“I gotta find a way to shut this fire off. As weird as the chief is acting, he might be my ticket to safety.” He says in his head.

He heads for the other door instead and heads into a green eerie hallway. He sees a couple of crows sitting on top of a pecked dead body of an officer. While the crows don’t bother Bill, as he heads deeper into the hallway more crows crash through the window. The birds begin to peck him, but one shot from his pistol scares them back outside.

He heads outside to the roof where he sees the source of the fire, which is a crashed police helicopter. What Bill doesn’t know is that Angel witnessed the crash himself not too long ago. He heads down the set of stairs and heads for the storage cabin to see if he can find a valve handle to use on the water tank above the burning chopper.

He goes around and dodges the grasps of all the zombies surrounding the cabin. Entering the cabin the valve handle is not there anymore, but he finds another clip of ammo and some grenade rounds. He heads back up to the station figuring that the handle has been move somewhere else.

However once he gets up to the roof he sees that the fire has been extinguished already. He is encouraged because that means Angel is probably still alive or there is another survivor roaming around. He heads back to the hallway where the chief is located, but the path to the office is blocked by debris. There is another door to the back behind the cockpit of the chopper, but as he heads to the door he hears a scream that of a girl.

He hopes it’s not the scream of the missing girl. He heads to the back door where he enters an art room with a statue of a woman in the back. The room is full of paintings and occult looking statues. He sees a key in one of the draws and sees a couple of small women face statues with holes below them. The holes are the same sizes as the red jewel he has, he inserts the jewel into the hole. The jewel fits perfectly into the hole, but still needs the other jewel. He takes the key and heads back out.

“All I need is some C4 and a detonator to blow the wall up. There’s bound to be some C4 in the western office.” He says realizing that he needs to blow the wall up to get to the chief.

Holding the key in his hand, he puts it in his side pack and heads downstairs where there was another locked door leading to the western office. He figures the sarge might need his help or at least he could check up on him. Heading back to the main hallway he forgets that the zombies are still around, instead of heading through the second floor he jumps down to the first floor as a zombie is ready to grab him. He stops the fall by grabbing a rope in front of him and swings down safely to the first floor.

He heads through the double doors and carefully goes through the hallways until he reaches the locked door he tried to first open. Using the key he got from the art room he opens the door and enters the locker room. No zombies are inside to his relief, so he searches through the lockers. He finds some grenade rounds and handgun bullets. Then he approaches a locked draw, which he uses his lockpick to open and finds some C4 explosives.

“Cool, some C4. Now to find a detonator and I might be able to clear the rubble blocking the chief’s office. Hopefully I find that little girl soon.” Bill says in his head.

He goes through the door leading to the western office and sees the sarge by his desk sitting on the floor. So he heads to help him.

“Hey sarge, are you ok? Ah… sarge…” The sarge gets up like he’s alright, but his skin begins to turn purple. Bill’s worse fear has come true; the sarge has turned into a zombie.

“No! Not you too. Dammit…” Bill moves back to gain distance from the sarge. “Sorry sarge, but I got no choice…” He reluctantly pumps to bullets to the sarge’s head killing him and then kneels down in agony after being forced to kill the sarge. “Sorry… I didn’t want to do it! This damn ‘broken arrow’ virus is out of control… Hybrid needs to pay for its sins!” He says in agony and anger.

Upon killing the sarge, he sees the detonator on the table. Looks like the sarge might have had the same intentions to blow up the wall. Bill now has a C4 bomb to break into the chief’s office. He heads back upstairs killing any zombies in the way until he gets to the hallway where the chief’s office is located. He arms the C4 explosive and runs from the wall until the bomb explodes taking out the wall.

The hallway leading to the chief’s office is seen and he goes through until he enters the chief’s office. Trophy animal heads and pictures of the chief in his hunting attire can be seen in the room. This suggests that the chief is into taxidermy and has been into it for a long time.

Bill walks slowly towards the chief’s desk where there is a body of a dead woman, which probably explains the scream he heard earlier. However, before he can get any closer the chief turns around on his chair and points his Desert Eagle magnum on him.

However when the chief realizes it’s Bill he puts down his gun and says, “Oh… I’m terribly sorry. I thought you were one of those… zombies.”

“Chief Brian Irons? What are you still doing here?” Bill asks.

“Well thanks to you I can escape. Anyway I was here and the chopper crash prevented me from getting out, but just what are you doing here?” Chief Irons asks and then continues. “No, don’t tell me. It makes no difference anyway. You’ll end up just like all the others!” Then the chief looks at the dead woman’s body.

“That’s the mayor’s daughter, I was told to look after her but I failed, miserably. Just look at her, she was a true beauty nothing short of ‘perfect’, but… it will soon putrefy and she will turn into a zombie just like all the others.” The chief continues in a strange sarcastic tone.

“There must be a way to stop it!” Bill says.

“In a matter of speaking there is, either by putting a bullet through the brain or by decapitating it completely... and to think taxidermy used to be my hobby, but no longer! Please I really like to be alone now.” Chief Irons sits back on his chair and begins to fall asleep.

Bill sees another door to the right and heads inside to be led to a well-lit hallway where a stuffed tiger can be seen on a stand. He continues down the hall until he sees another door leading to a room where the chief apparently keeps a porcelain collection. However he hears footsteps in the next room and carefully heads towards them knowing it could be a survivor, those of a zombie, or something worse.

He heads into the room and flips the light switch on to see the same little girl. The girl tries to run away, but Bill is able to grab her arm.

“Let me go!” The young woman screams.

“Hey take it easy! I’m not a zombie, you’re safe now.” Bill calms the girl down.

The girl hugs Bill tightly while crying in joy.

Bill calls Angel over the radio letting him know that he found the girl and Angel can now explore the chief’s office.

“Hey you’ll be alright. What’s your name?” Bill asks the girl.

  “Maria…” The girl answers slowly.

“Do you know where your parents are?”

“I don’t live with my parents, I live with my boyfriend. I love him so much, I might look little but I’m 22.”

“Oh, still you shouldn’t be here.” Bill says unknown to the fact that Maria is Angel’s boyfriend.

“My boyfriend called me and told me to come here because it was too dangerous at my friend’s house.”

“I can tell that he was probably right, but it’s dangerous here as well. You better come with me.”

“But there’s something out there, much larger than those zombies and it’s coming after me!” Then a scream of a monster like thing can be heard in the distance. “See that’s what I was telling you about, it’s here!”

“Maria wait!” Bill screams but Maria runs away from him scared of the monster. He has no idea what the monster looks like, but by the screech it cannot be good news.

He spots a fireplace with a message, “Light up the ashes of my dead remains and my heart shall pour out for you…”

Bill uses his lighter to light the fireplace and a hole above the message begins to open up with a red jewel popping out. He grabs it and remembers that he had one more jewel missing back at the art room. As he heads back he sees the chief is gone along with the body of the mayor’s daughter and calls his name with no response.

He goes to where the chief was sitting and sees the picture frame behind him is open. He reads the message below the picture, “Once all three of the death stones are found the path to the afterlife will open…”

“Man this is one crazy place, no wonder why the chief was so defensive. So many secret passages and crosswords, the chief must be hiding something big here and I got a hunch it has to do with Hybrid.” Bill becomes suspicious of Chief Irons.

He takes the snake stone he has and inserts into the hole where it fits perfectly and two more stones are needed. Perhaps it will lead to a way out and maybe one that is safer as well. Getting out of the chief’s office he heads back to the art room.

Grabbing the red jewel out of his pocket he heads to the other women statue and inserts the red jewel in the opening. After that, the breasts of the huge female soldier statue open revealing another stone. This one is a blue jaguar stone and there is also a key leading down to the basement from the western office side.

He makes his way back to the western office where he finds a door labeled “basement entrance” and opens the door. He heads down the stairs to the basement and wonders what is next for him.

  Chapter 5

After heading down the stairs, Bill begins to explore the basement hallway. However, he is ambushed by rabid dogs looking for their next meal. One of them tries to jump on him, he dodges the attack and the dog hit the garbage can. Then he shoots the dog, killing it. The other two dogs come rushing in towards him, but a well placed grenade takes them both out.

After taking the dogs out he explores the hallway looking for the weapon storage room. However, as he moves forward he sees the path is blocked by rubble from the fallen ceiling.

“Damn there goes the weapon storage idea out of the way. Maria is right though, there is something big here and it might be closer than I think.” He says in his head.

He sees the stairway to the eastern office, but more than likely the door is locked. Instead he continues until he gets to the garbage disposal area and sees if he can see anyway out from there. Once he gets outside he sees an open manhole and decides to head down.

Once he’s down into the sewer entrance he sees Maria.

“Maria, I was so worried we got to go now honey. If we stay here that thing will find us, let’s go.” Bill says sternly.

  “No! I won’t!”

“Why? You don’t trust me?” Bill says humorously.

“It’s not that Bill, it’s because of my boyfriend. I heard him call my name. My boyfriend must have been attacked by the zombies, I have to help him!” Maria jumps into a small hole that is too small for Bill to follow her into and then she falls into a construction zone in the sewage treatment plant.

“Angel don’t worry I’m coming to save you my love.” She says in her mind.

Maria finds an elevator that leads her to the outside of the treatment plant. She sees zombies blocking the entrance of the plant, she runs as fast as she can in order to outrun the zombies. She successfully gets away from the zombies and enters the plant. Upon entering the plant she heads towards the first door she sees only to see it locked. After that, she heads down to the door on the lower level, which is locked as well. However there’s a vent that’s big enough for her to fit through.

She enters a water treatment room and sees a couple of items on a cabinet across the room. Only problem is that the hole for the water is empty and the distance is too great for her to jump to the other side. All of a sudden she sees wooden boxes in the hole that she can use to create a bridge.

“Hmm… I can use those boxes, push them to this side and raise the water level. The boxes should float up and I’ll be able to cross.” She thinks of what to do.

She heads down into the hole and begins to push the semi-heavy wooden boxes to the side where she wants to create the crossing. Despite the fact she is tired, she knows that she can’t rest if she wants to survive and see her love again. She doesn’t hear the voice calling her name anymore.

After getting back up to where she was, she uses the panel to raise the water level. The boxes do float as expected and now she can get to the other side. Once at the other side she finds the final stone that Bill needs to open the secret passage and some handgun bullets. She exits the room and heads upstairs to see if Angel is up there. To her disappointment her love isn’t up there, she begins to shed a tear thinking the worse has happened to him and she wasn’t there to help him.
