"No, I said he tried to kiss me. There's a difference."

"No there's not. He wants you back. I can see it all over him. He's still in love with you Queen."

"Well he'll soon get over that once he finds out that I'm pregnant by Logic."

"So, Logic's your Baby Daddy? Why did I think it was going to be Chocolate Thunder Down Under?" Jade teased.

"Fuck you!" Queen laughed. "I told you that I didn't mess around with that man. Nothing happened between us. Why can’t you get that? That's too much dick for me. I love the big ride, but damn! I have to draw the line somewhere and that's where I drew it."

"I was just kidding. I figured Logic was the father when you walked in the door. Did you tell him?"

"Tell him what? There's nothing to tell yet. Besides, he's not returning my calls."

"Actually there’s something to tell him now." Jade said as she displayed the positive pregnancy test.

Queen stared at that stick for what seemed like an eternity as Jade read the results of the second one. "F-U-C-K!" Queen screamed as loud as she could. She quickly grabbed another test and attempted to rip the packaging open.

"Queen, just stop... don't even bother to open another one. These things are popping up pregnant as soon as you pee on one." Jade said as she watched with mixed emotions as Queen covered her face with both hands and openly sobbed.

"Queen, bringing a new life into the world is a good thing. Everything is going to be okay. You'll see. Don't cry, unless you're crying tears of joy. Okay? Come on stop crying."

"Alright, well at least I know.” Queen conceded as she wiped the tears from her wet face. “So, I guess I'd better figure out a way to tell Christian. Jade he's going to be so damn hurt."

"Better now than later. if he's not the father then he needs to know before he becomes emotionally attached to the baby."

"I know. It's just... he's going to be so damn disappointed in me."

"Disappointed my ass! Chris is going to straight up beat your ass! Don't think that because he's soft on you and shit that he's Mr. Sensitive. Chris ain't one of those whipped niggas that you're used to dating all these years. He's going dirty south straight up postal on your ass, so you may want to call his ass from Vegas and tell him. I'm just saying."

"Christian would never hit a woman, especially not a pregnant woman." Queen said as she flushed the toilet and begin to wash her hands.

"You're right... but he'll beat a hoe's ass! Doesn't matter if she's pregnant or not!" Jade joked to try to lighten the mood.

Queen shook her head and snickered. "Yeah, well I guess I deserved that one."

"You know you did. Your scandalous ass was laid up with Logic like you two were the ones engaged. Chris is so going to fuck you up when he finds out. If I were you I'd call his ass from my hideout beneath a rice patty in Indonesia or some shit." Jade laughed.

Queen sighed. "Maybe so, but I at least owe him an explanation face to face."

"How the fuck do you plan to explain this shit Queen? Huh? 'Christian I'm so sorry. It just happened. I fell on Logic's big old hard dick repeatedly for two weeks.' Is that how it's going to go? Queen take my advice. Tell Chris ass from an untraceable phone at a secret location, in another country."

"Look, don't think that I don't know that he's going to be pissed. I've seen his ass tick the fuck off. I'll be alright. I'll deal with that later. First I need to get in contact with Logic."

"So what's that about? Why isn't he returning your calls?"

"He's mad at me. He wanted me to come clean with Christian when he got back from LA and I couldn't do it. So, basically he wants me to shit or get off the pot."

"He has a point. You want to be with him, but you never make any sacrifices to make it happen. Why can't you just commit to him? It's obvious that you're in love with him."

"Because I'd just find a way to fuck it up and break his heart all over again. I can't do that to him again Jade."

"I think you did that when you let him go back to Vegas without you. This is fixable. You two have known each other for a very long time. Here call him and just say hello." Jade handed Queen her house phone. "His number should be on the Caller ID log. He'll think that it's Dorian so he should pick up."

"Jade I don't know if I'm ready for this. What am I going to say?" Queen asked as she scrolled through the list of numbers to locate Logic's. "I keep forgetting that Dorian is his attorney."

"Yeah whatever, stop stalling and call him." Jade insisted. "Just tell him that you love him and that you're going to have his baby. Then ask him to marry you."

"What the fuck ever... I'm not going to ask him to marry me."

"You'd better find somebody to marry your pregnant ass. Your momma is going to beat the hell out of you if you have a baby and don't get married."

"Now that's the one that I'm going to have to tell from a secluded location. She's straight up going to take a belt to my ass when she finds out." Queen laughed as she dialed Logic's number. “I'll just tell him that I want to talk.”

The phone rang and Logic answered on the second ring. “What up D?”

  “Hey Logic, it’s me.”

Although caught completely off guard Logic instantly recognized Queen’s voice. “Oh yeah, and who’s me?”

“It’s me Queen. I’m at the house with Jade.”

There was a long pause as Logic wrestled with a plethora of mixed feelings. “So how are you Mye Queen, or is it Mye Love?”

  “Logic please don’t start.”

“Maybe I should have called you Mye Davine, or Mye Hope. Perhaps it could have been...”

“Don’t you fuckin even say it! Why you got to be an ass?”

  Logic was silent.

“I called you because I need to talk to you about something. Why do you have to treat me this way?”

“What did you want to talk about Queen?”

“I don’t want to talk to you over the phone. I need to see you.”

“Well, you’re going to have to come to Vegas, because I’m not coming to Baltimore before your wedding. I'm in training.”

“Logic please stop. I know I probably deserve this, but please just stop. There’s something we need to talk about.”

“Queen, you need to stop talking about shit and be about shit. If you need to see me then come to Vegas. It’s as simple as that.”

“So when I get to Vegas are you going to see me?”

“Of course I will. Why would you even ask me that?”

“Logic you haven’t so much as returned a text message from me since you left.”

“I’ve been a little busy. It’s hard recuperating from a broken heart. But you wouldn’t know anything about that would you? Huh, Queen?”

“Okay, I see what the problem is. Look I’ll contact you when I get to Vegas. Like me or hate me, we’re going to have to have this conversation. I can’t deal with this or you right now. I got to go.”

“Queen... Put Jade on the phone.”

Queen hands the phone to Jade before turning and walking away. She was obviously shaken by the conversation. “Here he wants to talk to you.”

“Where are you going?” Jade called after her. Queen did not respond. “What did you say to her?”

“I didn’t say anything to her. Is she okay?”

  “What?”

“Is she okay? I mean is everything alright? She’s not sick is she?”

“No she’s physically fine. She’s just going through some things right now. And it doesn’t help that you want to be a complete ass to her. She needs you.”

“That’s what I’m asking. Does she need some money or something? Is she in trouble? What’s going on? Tell me something. Queen hasn't contacted me over a month.”

“Logic, that's because you stopped answering her calls. What did you expect her to do? Look all I can tell you is that it’s not mine to tell. She doesn’t need your money, she needs your friendship. After all the two of you have been through she has at least earned that. Just pick up the damn phone when she calls. Is that asking too much?”

“No, you’re right. Jade, you know how I feel about Queen. I just can’t..."

“You don’t have to explain it to me. I know exactly what you’re up against. I’m just saying don’t pull out when she needs you the most. That’s all I’m saying.”

"Do I need to fly over there, or what? I mean how serious of an issue are we talking?”

“Look just don’t sweat it. I got her over here. Just let her make the next move when she’s ready. I’ll call you if I need you, but don’t go ghost on her. She’s going to need you whether she likes it or not. Okay?”

“Alright... But what about old boy? What’s up with that? He can’t handle what’s going on with her? At least give me a clue or something.”

“Look, again I’m not at liberty to say anything about it. All I can say is that the shit’s funky and Queen’s pretty broken up right now.”

“Look, just tell her to call me back, when she gets a chance. I'll see what I can do to come see her.”

“Alright, just pick up when you see her number.”

“No problem. Tell Dorian to give me a call.”

  “Alright.”

  “Hey, when’s the baby due?”

“Any minute now. I'm so big that I'm about to pop.”

  “Okay, well keep me informed.”

  “Will do.”

Jade hangs up the phone and cautiously follows the trail of despair that leads to a Queen she hadn’t seen since that infamous night at Queen’s Palace when she walked away from Logic and Teddy.

Queen stared blankly out the large bay window in Jade’s living room. Her eyes were swollen with tears; tears which refused to fall.

“Are you alright?” Jade asked as she helplessly watched her best friend unravel from within.

“Yeah, I’ll survive. Look, I got to go. A friend of mine at the hospital has ordered a sonogram for me. I’m suppose to meet her there in an hour. I have to confirm my gestation and due date before I start naming Baby Daddies.”

“Do you want me to go with you?”

“No, I’ll be alright. It’s only going to confirm what I already know.”

“Logic said to call him back when you’re ready to talk.”

“Logic’s right. It’s too late for talking. I’m just going to get this over with.”

“Queen what are you going to do if it’s not Chris’ baby?”

“Apparent become a statistic. Just another black woman with a Baby Daddy instead of a husband.” Queen sarcastically grumbled as she dug in her purse in search of her keys.

“Okay just wait. I’m going with you.” Jade announced as she waddled across the room in search of her purse.

“Jade I’m fine. I created this kaios. I’ll deal with its aftermath. Besides look at you... you can hardly walk. Sit down and put your feet up. God they look swollen!”

“Okay, but promise me that you won’t do something stupid.”

“Like what? You have to be more specific, because I’ve really been stuck on stupid lately.”

“Queen, don’t even act like you don’t know what I’m talking about.”

“I’m not that damn stupid, or in love. I’m just going to get the sonogram and maybe an exam. I told you, rest and put those swollen feet of yours up. I’ll call you when I’m done to let you know what’s up.”

“Queen I need you to promise me that you’re not going to do no silly ass shit. I don’t care what you say. Come back here in one hour or I swear to God I will call both of your Baby Daddies on a three way call and tell them simultaneously what the fuck is up. So, promise me.”

“Okay I promise. Damn! I said I wasn’t going to do that. Why would you think that I would have an abortion without thinking.”

“Queen you’re upset and I know how you like to take the easy way out.”

“There ain’t a damn thing easy about that! Fuck Logic and fuck Christian for that matter. I don’t need either one of them that damn bad. I don’t know who the father is but I know I’m the mother and I’m not having an abortion for no damn body.”

Queen’s voice cracked and the tears begin to flow again. It was obvious that she was hurt, devastated and confused and there wasn’t a damn thing that Jade could say or do to change that. So she did the only thing she could.

“I don’t care what you say. I’m going with you. Besides, what am I suppose to say when Christian gets back here and finds you gone and all of these damn pregnancy tests in my trash can? You can thank me later, but right now I’m going to squeeze these fat feet in some shoes and I’m going with you.

Realizing that it was pointless to argue with Jade, Queen surrendered. “Okay but don’t take all day, with your fat ass self.” She joked.

“I’m pregnant bitch, not fat. I can’t wait until that big ass of yours triples in size. I bet it won’t be funny then.” Jade retaliated as she shoved on a pair of ugly, over sized, dollar store flip flops.

“I bet it won’t,” Queen laughed. ”But right now it‘s funny as hell. You look like a pregnant ass Leprechaun.

“It’s not funny Queen. I can’t even wear regular shoes. These are Dorian’s cheap ass flip flops.”

“You’re right. It's not funny and I shouldn't tease you. You look cute from the knees up girl. Don’t worry about those Smurfette feet, they'll go down one day. So, until then just work those flip flops.” Queen teased.

“That’s alright. I’m going to give them to your mama so that she can whup your hoeing, pregnant ass.” Jade laughed.

  “Don’t even play.”

  ~*~*~

A half an hour later the two best friends discovered something incredible. They were both pregnant and surprisingly happy about it.

“Well looks like you’re about four to five weeks pregnant.” Queen’s friend Dr. Melissa Goodwin announced as she rubbed the sonogram wand over Queens miniature baby pouch. “So should I say congratulations or just mind my own business? I’m just asking.”

Queen smiled as she stared at the image of her embryo on the sonogram screen. “Oh my God. He’s got his daddy’s big ass head.”

“Well, I'm not sure if it's a boy, but I guess congratulations are in order. Are you going to follow up at the Women’s Center at Her Lady of Mercy or are you going to slum it down here with me?”

“I'm not sure yet. I’ll have to give it some thought, if that’s okay.”

“Okay. So, in the mean time I’ll write you some prescriptions for your pre-natals and I’ll have Sandy give you a follow up call in a week or two. Alright?”

“Thanks so much Melissa.” Queen said as she continued to stare at her little miracle on the sonogram screen.

“Not a problem, but you owe me lunch. I’m serious Queen.”

“Okay, well just call me and tell me when you want to go. Check your schedule for Monday.”

“Actually that’s perfect, because this cloak and dagger suspense is killing me. Girl what kind of mess have you stepped in this time? You keep something going.”

“I know. Melissa, please do me a huge favor and keep all of this to yourself for now. I promise I’ll tell you everything on Monday if you have time.”

“Oh I’m going to make time, believe that.” Dr. Goodwin laughed before spotting Jade. “Are you okay? You don't look good. Queen I'm not so sure your friend is doing well.”

Queen looks over at Jade who is holding her belly and cringing in pain. “Jade, are you okay? What's wrong?”

“Queen you're not going to believe this but my water just broke. I think I'm going into labor.”

“Are you serious? Oh my God! When are you due?” Queen said jumping up from the screening table.

  “Monday or so.” Jade groan.

“Seriously! Why didn't you say something before I let you follow me out of the house.”

  “What difference does it make?”

“Jade, who's your doctor? I'll contact them for you.” Dr. Goodwin inquired.

“Dr. Christian Love at Her Lady of Mercy.” Jade managed.

“I think we'd better get you on an exam table and see what's going on. Queen, call Dr. Love and let him know what's happening.”

“Oh no, you don't! We are not suppose to be here. Chris is going to kill both of us. Queen can drive me over to the hospital.”

“Shit! I can't believe this. Look Jade she's right. Let her examine you and I'll call Christian.”

“No you won't. I'll let Dr. Goodwin examine me but I'm going to Her Lady of Mercy to deliver.” Jade managed. “We'll call Chris when we are in route.”

“Okay! Let's not even waste time arguing with her. We'll get her on a table and decide what to do from there.” Queen declared.

“Good idea. Is that okay with you Jade?” Dr. Goodwin asked as she lead Jade to an examining room.

“I'd better call Dorian.” Queen interjected.

“No! Did you forget that Dorian is with Chris. Queen we have to get the hell out of here!”

“Damn, I forgot! Look, let's just call them. It's okay.”

“No, because I'm going to have my baby at Her Lady of Mercy. The sooner we leave the sooner we'll get there. So, let's go!”

“Jade, you are not having a baby in my truck. And I am not delivering your baby on the damn highway, so no. I'm calling them.”

  “Don't you dare!”

“Alright, what if I ride with you in an ambulance to Lady of Mercy? Queen will follow and she'll call your husband and Dr. Love on the way. Okay?”

“Okay... I can do that, except Queen is riding with me in the ambulance and you can follow in your car. Queen we'll get your parents to pick up your truck.”

“Sounds like a plan.” Dr. Goodwin agreed as she called her nurse in the room to make the arrangements.

“Get on the table and take your underwear off.” Queen ordered as she quickly washed her hands and puts on gloves to exam Jade.

“Hold up what the hell are you doing?” Jade asked as she watched Queen.

  “I'm going to examine you.”

“Oh, no you are not. Dr. Goodwin can handle that. I'm not going to let you fumble around in my Lady Town.”

“Jade cut all the bullshit and let me examine you.”

“Queen I'm serious. We are not that kind of friends.”
