A Taxonomy of Barnacles, page 38

For the girls, in addition to all their attributes, were blessed with the giddy omniscience of youth, so they knew that if you look from high up enough, you can see the city with dizzying perspective and this is precisely when its vast gray grid reveals a glorious fractal of colors which, if you squint, seems to be a huge crowd, huddled, elbow to sweaty elbow, tiny feet crushing other tiny feet, but if you let your eyes relax, refines to reveal that New York is truly an arc, swarming with people estranged from their pair, each one fighting his way across the city, looking for her lost twin.
This is a work of fiction. All of the people and events portrayed in this book either are products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously.
