Kai just lets out a soft huff before laying down, placing the head on his paws. He quietly looks at her with those red murderous eyes which are enough to scare any human away. I feel our tail lightly wag on the grass. Just when I thought she'd turn and run away, our mate slowly reaches out her pale hand towards us instead, surprising me. Kai gives me a 'See?'- smile.

  Olivia's POV

Maybe I have lost my mind. Maybe I am the dumbest person alive, for, instead of running away from the danger, I find myself approaching it instead. Seeing this big majestic beast in front of me, where my mind screams to run, my heart tugs me towards it. My racing heart starts to calm down as I notice how the wolf simply lays down on its belly instead of pouncing at me. I'm no animal expert but a strong feeling...or a voice inside me says, "He would never hurt us..."

Not understanding what that even means, I still decide to reach out my hand towards it. My fingers almost ache to feel its luscious fur. The creature stays very still as I take my time to get my hand in its fur, its eyes looking into my very soul. My hand hovers over its head as I hold my breath. One glance into its burning red eyes and a strong pull in my chest knocks the wind out of my lungs. My fingers immediately dive into its coat.

Sparks. My breath hitches as sparks flow through my skin down my arm. My eyes widen in surprise and I notice the wolf wagging its tail even more. "Kaden!", I gasp out and the wolf instantly raises its head, looking at me with such intensity. The wolf continues to stare at me, its chest barely moving to breathe. I keep looking back at him before I shake my head. What am I even thinking..?

I slowly pull my hand back, thinking about that unexplained sensation. With my mind hazed with questions, I subconsciously glance at the wolf who stands up and slowly walks over but I couldn't even think of a way to react to it. He slowly takes his seat beside me and places his paws and head on my lap. The creature's heavyweight brings me out of my trance and I hold onto my breath again, yet he looked so peaceful. Tucking my lower lip under my teeth, I find my hand running through his fur once again, enjoying the sparks as they tickle my skin.

The wolf continues to wag his tail, bringing a soft smile to my face. I slowly lean back against the tree while rewarding the beast for his kind behavior with more head pats. Turning my gaze back at the beautiful night sky, I let out a soft hum. Being on this hill with my unusual companion somehow eased my unnerved soul. The entire day had felt like a war waging inside me but here, at this very moment, I felt complete.

"Who are you..?", I soon find myself talking to the creature who enjoyed cuddling my side. I only get a soft huff in response which prompted me to giggle. Of course, I wasn't expecting a proper answer but it still felt good to get a response. "I'm Olivia. I came from that college down there.", pointing to the building down the hill behind us, I continue to introduce myself. "We have to stay there in the dormitory. It's fine...just felt a bit...lonely tonight.", my voice turns into a murmur by the end.

The wolf slowly lifts his head, reaching my eye level. I look at him, no longer afraid of the beast who held enough power to kill in a swift motion. He slowly leans in and nuzzles my cheek, making me giggle again. I wrap my arms around his big neck, hugging the creature. More sparks flowed through my body at additional contact and it spread warmth through my chest that started feeling as important as air to live.

"Where do you live?", I ask as I slowly rest my head against his furry chest. He was now sitting on his hind legs, supporting my weight as I found myself leaning against him. I again was replied to by a soft huff. Although it could be considered a one-sided conversation, I felt really comfortable doing so. "Are you from around here? Do you live on this hill?", my questions continue, piling up for no reason at all. "Did you call me here tonight?", I ask before starting to wonder. It felt so surreal that I decided to sneak out of my dorm to come up here and ended up making friends with a majestic wolf.

I slowly smile, "You know...", I run my fingers through his fur again, "..you're really beautiful." Loud thumping noise from behind us informed me of his tail wagging. I giggle before rubbing my face in his coat, letting the tingly feeling tickle me on the face. "Your fur is so soft...so shiny... You're the most beautiful wolf I have ever seen. Hehe, not like I get to see any wolves but still."

The sound of his tail wagging gets even louder and I couldn't help but giggle more. Could this all be a dream? It just feels too good to be real. I brush down his fur with my fingers before my movement lightly falters. "You...remind me of someone..." A soft blush paints my face and I look up into his red glowing eyes. With this beast, I felt at peace...but this feeling also felt familiar. Maybe not in such intensity but a hint of this feeling I have felt before. "You remind me...of this guy I recently met...", my mind wanders off. "He...has been nothing but nice to me ever since I met him... Being around him...brings butterflies in my stomach..."

I slowly shake my head, "I'm sorry..." I slowly frown, pulling away from the wolf. The guilt washes over me once again. The suffocating feeling inside my chest returns, showing how it's not easy to escape reality. Suddenly a soft wet thing comes in contact with my cheek. My eyes widen and I glance at the wolf. He huffs a little at me before leaning in again and licking my cheek. The smile returns on my face as I giggle and hug him close. "I forgot... You won't judge or punish me..", I pet him, "..right?" He replies again with a huff but it felt like an agreement.

Smiling in peace, I lean against him again and continue to watch the night sky. After an hour or so, my eyes opened to the wet tongue on my cheek again. I rub my eyes and find the wolf looking down at me. I slowly raise myself on my elbows and inspect my surroundings. "Did I...fall asleep?", I ask him as he nudges my side. I nod, understanding the unspoken message, and get up on my feet. "I should head back to my dorm..."

With the wolf by my side, I start to descend from the hilltop, still rubbing the sleep from my eyes so I can focus on the path and not trip over something. The walk back felt shorter and before I knew it, I was standing by the wall I climbed over earlier. Suddenly panic takes over and I kneel down by my companion. "Wait... I...I don't want you gone..." I say, realizing how our journey had come to an end. "I... I don't know if you understand me but...I want to spend time with you again..."

The wolf just keeps looking at me with his tail occasionally wagging. I feel sadness spread inside me. "Would I...be able to find you again?", I ask, knowing that again there would be no proper response. Maybe this is the last time I'm seeing him...but I don't want it to be. It was like I found the best of friends in this four-pawed fur ball. The creature slowly steps closer and licks the bridge of my nose before turning his head to the hill. I look at the place gestured at and let out a tiny sigh. "I will return there again tonight.", I shift my gaze to him again, "Please be there..."

Maybe I am too sleepy or maybe it was the desperation inside me but it seemed like the wolf nodded, promising to return. Whichever it might have been, at that moment, it felt enough. Reaching my hands to the top of the wall, I slowly hoist myself up again. Climbing over the wall, I land on my feet and quickly glance around to see if any guard was around. To my relief, no one was in sight. I turn to look at the wall behind me before placing my palm on the cold bricks, "I'll return tonight..."

With that, I carefully make my way back to my dorm. Stepping inside, I smile to find Cassie still asleep, unaware of my little trip. I slip into the bed and the covers, resting my head on a pillow. As I close my eyes, I feel my smile grow even bigger at the thought of meeting the wolf again.

  Chapter 10

  On Mate’s Mind

  Olivia's POV

My alarm goes off, waking me up. Before I could open my eyes, my lips spread into a big smile. Sitting up, I look down at my hands. I could still feel the wolf's soft fur on my skin. A warm and tingling feeling floods my chest and I resist the urge to giggle. Just then the mattress beside me shifts and I feel Cassie's hand on my shoulder.

"Olivia... Do you want to--", she stops mid-question and her brows furrow. I turn my face to hers, still keeping my big smile and soft blush on my cheeks. Something in her eyes shines, as if sharing my emotions, she too slowly gives me a smile. "You okay?", she still asks me.

I give her a confident nod before jumping off the bed. Picking up a fresh pair of clothes, I head to the bathroom to take a shower. As soon as my eyes land on the mirror, I see the glow on my face. Gone was the girl who had a war waging inside her. Gone was the girl who struggled to keep her happiness in the last few days. The female in the reflection had a cheery look plastered to her face which revealed the joy in her heart.

It's going to be a beautiful day.

  Kaden's POV

It's a beautiful day! I smile to myself as I spring up from the bed. I've had one of the best sleep in my entire life. I kept dreaming of Olivia, my sweet-scented mate. Her soft skin rubbing against mine as she whispered my name through her delicate little lips.

I can tell this is going to be a beautiful day.

"All thanks to me.", my wolf smirks in the back of my head, making me roll my eyes at him.

"What does that have to do with you?", I ask him as I pick up the shirt I discarded last night and put it on before looking for my boxers. I didn't bother wearing clothes after I returned home earlier this morning.

"I got us to have personal time with Mate!", I hear Kai howl in my head.

"Doesn't matter. It's special because of her, not you! You almost scared her to death!"

"Oh please, I know our mate better than you. She'd never be afraid of me.", my wolf defends himself before letting out a long purr, "She called me the most beautiful wolf in the world..."

"That's because she doesn't know the hassle I have to go through to maintain your coat! If she did, she'd call you the biggest troublesome wolf in the world!", I bark back.

"You're just jealous she kept hugging and cuddling with me!", Kai snarls.

"Why would I be jealous?! She said my name the moment she touched your fur!", I scoff, "In fact, you should be grateful that I'm not punishing you for being with my mate! Don't forget, I get her human side! You get her wolf."

"Her wolf isn't awake yet... I can't even sense her...", I frown as he lets out a whimper, understanding his pain. If she were to be connected to her wolf the way I was, it would have been easier for us to impress her.

Shaking my head, I imagine myself patting Kai's head which he felt, "Don't worry... Soon she and her wolf will be by our side... And for now, we can continue spending nights with her."

I hear my wolf's approval and head to take a shower although her scent was not something I wished to scrub off me but I don't think she'd find me charming with dirt sticking on my skin.

Once in the college, I wait for the female by the lockers, my leaden peepers searching for her. Before she even came into my sight, her scent fills my nostrils and I find myself inhaling even more of that intoxicating fragrance. My orbs fall on the blonde who made her way over to me, followed by my sister who was giving me a teasing smile.

"Kaden...", Olivia whispers my name as she spots me and then turns her face away, blushing. She didn't say anything else. She didn't even need to. I knew exactly what she was thinking of. Her confession last night.

A smirk danced on my lips and I slowly leaned against the cold metal. The female kept her head low as she shuffles to her locker and retrieves her book. Without another word from her lips, my mate leaves us behind for her next class. I pull myself away from the lockers to follow her but Cassie stops me with a hand on my arm.

"Let her go, Kaden. She's not allowed to guide you to classes anymore.", she says, bringing a frown to my face. "I'll show you to your class.", she offers and I shake my head.

"I already know my way around here. Finding classes is not a big deal. I just enjoyed following her.", I explained before starting to walk to my next class only to find Cassie following me with a big smile. Raising an eyebrow, I turn my head to my sister, "What?"

"Details!", she chirps, "I need details!"

"Details?", her answer made my head tilt, "What details?"

"Of last night!", my eyes slightly widen as she answered. Now she had all of my attention.

  "You know about last night?"

She holds her head high in pride, "Of course!" She looks at me, "I noticed when Olivia left the dorm. I knew she had a lot on her mind so didn't stop her. After all, our pack is guarding this place day and night so it's not like she'd get hurt. She's the future Luna. Who would dare hurt or even stop her?"

She then quickly smirks, "But when she came back...guess whose scent was all over her~" Her words made my cheek glow red and I clear my throat, looking away. "Soo, tell me! Tell me what happened! I need details!"

"Nothing happened! We were just...", I scratch the back of my head, "Kai found her and spent time with her."

Her eyes widen in surprise, "Kai?? Olivia wasn't scared??"

"Heh, she called me the most beautiful wolf in the world!", Kai replied before I could through the mind-link, making me roll my eyes.

"Aww... That is so cute! So what did the two do?", she asks.

"Just cuddled, obviously. I wouldn't let Kai take her any other way!", I huff, being possessive of my mate. She laughs, amused by my possessiveness.

  Olivia's POV

I take my seat in the class. Glancing around quickly, I notice Kaden is yet to join us. I bite my lip, feeling guilty for not guiding the way. It wasn't by choice. Shawn would be mad if I did...and I don't want him hurting Kaden.

Soon the brunette enters the class with his messy black locks scattered on his forehead. My heart instantly skips a beat at the sight of the male. He simply walks in and takes one of the vacant seats. In a few minutes, the class begins with the professor explaining what the author had written. "The author expresses their intense feelings and emotions towards their lover.", he continues. "They explained their infatuation by writing how they admired everything about their lover. His scent, his eyes, his hair."

My ears lightly perk up at the last part. Hair? The author liked their lover's hair? Who writes about hair? Or even give it much thought? I chuckle in my head before my eyes land on my hand. Suddenly I could feel the wolf's fur on my skin. As my cheeks start to feel hot, I rub my thumb against the index finger, recalling the sensation.

Taking my pen, I start scribbling and sketching. The entire incident from last night floated in my head, repeating in detail. The majestic beast against me, his warmth, the sound of his breathing. In the moonlight, he seemed no less than a king.

Suddenly my notebook is snatched from my hands and raised up. With panic in my eyes, I look up at the person who was none other than the professor himself. He narrows his orbs at me, "Ms. Vale, what's with all the doodling?!", his voice makes me shudder in fear.

The male inspects the sketch before letting out a hum, "You drew a wolf?" I could feel all the eyes in the class on me. He looks down at me, "But it's still not acceptable in my class! Can you tell me why sketching was important when I'm explaining the chapter?"

I lightly gulp before glancing at Kaden. His leaden peepers stared into my very soul. My face heats up as I lower my head. I feel embarrassed as if I was sketching him instead and now the professor has disclosed my work in front of Kaden.

"I'm still waiting, Ms. Vale.", the professor reminded me. I gulp before taking the notebook from him, looking at the artwork I had done.

"I... You were talking about how the author expressed her infatuation with her lover by writing about his features, clothes, and stuff...", I started, looking into the eyes I had drawn, feeling the warmth from the beast once again. "I...tried to do the same... I met a wolf some..time ago and tried to express my infatuation with him...but I'm no writer so...I drew instead." My thumb brushes the fur I had drawn, "But my sketch does no justice to his magnificence... His red eyes don't look as lively as they really were. His black coat doesn't shine bright in the moonlight as it did in reality. His amazing presence...His amazing aura... I failed to capture it in my drawing."

As I slowly put the notebook down on the desk, I realized how much I had disclosed. These people probably think that I'm a lunatic now... Great job, Olivia...

  Kaden's POV

I glance at Olivia as she lowers her head in embarrassment as the professor questions her. I shake my head. Can't let a werewolf bother my mate. Just as I was about to mind-link the guy to back off, his words stopped me, "You drew a wolf?"

My heart instantly skipped a beat. Resting my elbow on the desk, I leaned my head against my hand to look at the blushing female properly. "She drew me!", Kai purrs in my head but I pay him no attention. I was more curious about her response.

"...His amazing presence...His amazing aura... I failed to capture it in my drawing.", she finishes explaining and a smile covers my glowing red face. I quickly look away as my heart beats loudly in my ear. I was smiling like a love-struck fool which I surely am.

With my head turned away, I notice how every wolf was looking at me with a teasing smile. As the Alpha of one of the biggest packs, my wolf's appearance was well known. And I have already announced Olivia as my mate. I had to, so the unmarked males don't go around trying their luck with her. That's one of the reasons we mark our mates as soon as possible so that others know the particular wolf is taken.

Considering a human male is already after her, I had to make sure wolves maintained their distance from her. With Olivia mentioning the color of Kai's eyes and fur, now every wolf in the class knew that I was on her mind all along. A mixed feeling of love, pride, and butterflies in my tummy filled me and I lightly raise my chin high, happy about the situation.

"Let my mate be.", I command the professor who, lightly bowing his head, backs away from Olivia. She, on the other hand, buries her face in her books, turning into a fresh tomato ready to be plucked and my wolf was going crazy to pluck her.
