Alpha's Mate Doesn't Know (The Moon Wolf Series), page 5
The next stage is Marking. It's where the mates bite down on that sweet spot between each other's shoulders and necks, making them carry their marks for life. The mark also tells other unmated wolves to back off our mate.
The final step is Mating. It's the stage where the mates get intimate with each other. It is usually right after the marking stage because marking makes our wolves aroused. Once all these steps are completed, the wolves share some of their powers and traits with each other.
I look at Olivia as her eyes close and she leans into my touch. My wolf was purring in the back of my head. I'm glad to see that she feels the same way as I do...even if she doesn't understand it. I rub her cheek with my thumb softly before my eyes land on her soft lips. My heart skips a beat. I slowly lean in to kiss her. As I get closer, her beautiful scent makes my mind hazy. She is like my personal drug. Our lips come closer when a voice calls her.
"Olivia!", Shawn shouts. Her blue eyes shoot open and she quickly pulls away from me. We both stand up and turn to look at her brother as he strides over. "What is going on here?!", he thunders. Olivia quickly lowers her head. She feels guilty, I can tell. Our mate shouldn't feel guilty for loving us...
"Head back to your dorm!", he scolds her, making me clench my fists. I feel a sting in my heart as she runs off with her head still low. A growl escapes my lips. Anger boils inside me again as I glare at the male in front of me. I want to rip his head off but he is Olivia's brother and Cassie's mate. "You!", Shawn barks, making me almost lose control as he almost stabs his index finger in my chest, "Stay AWAY from my sister!"
I feel heat emit from my eyes as they turn red. Kai starts fighting me for control. I see him lightly flinch back before still holding his ground as my dominating aura starts surrounding us. "Shawn!", Cassie's voice brings me back in control as she runs over.
Shawn looks at her before turning around and leaving the ground. Cassie puts her hand on my shoulder and my head snaps to her. "Kaden... Your eyes...", she whispers. I close them, taking long breaths as I calm myself down. I slowly open them and look at her again. "You need to be careful here...", she says in a worried tone.
I stare at her, "Your mate is ticking me off! It won't be long before I tear him apart."
"What??", she gasps before looking at me in fear, "Y-You can't hurt my mate!"
"If he continues to come between me and my mate, then yes I will.", my eyes flicker red for a second, making her gulp.
"Okay okay... Please just calm down... We'll talk to him in the cafeteria after class...", she lightly rubs my arm.
"That's what you said yesterday.", I slightly growl.
"This time he'd listen, I promise!", she slightly whimpers and I look away. She is my sister. I don't want to scare her but Shawn is really getting on my nerves. I give her a small nod. "Do you need me to help you find your next class?", she asks.
"No!", I snap, "I don't need these classes! I'm done studying for the day!", I pull away from her before marching to the exit and as expected, no one dared to stop me.
Once out, I inhale the fresh air, hoping for it to calm me but the frustration from my mate not knowing and the anger from her brother not helping us, mixed together, was enough to make me lose control. I look up at the hill Olivia mentioned. Our mate finds it admirable and her peace spot. I start running, going up the hill. This college was made especially to teach werewolves to co-exist with humans but just in case, it was made in a place surrounded by the forest. Not a thick one where someone could get lost. Just so wolves could run around and my pack could guard it while staying out of sight.
As I pick up my pace, I hear my wolf getting louder in my head. I close my eyes as he gets louder but even with my eyes closed, I could still see. I feel myself fall onto my hands but still continue to run. I feel like I'm no longer controlling my muscles yet I can run, hear, see and speak. Kai is in control. My body starts to change as my tail springs out and my mouth elongates into a snout. My hands turn into paws. As I fully shift into a wolf, we run up even faster. My black fur shines in the Sun. My wolf is bigger than others in my pack. Stronger than others...Deadlier than others. That is what an alpha wolf is like. Kai stops only once we were at the top of the hill. We look down at the college through Kai's red eyes. We are still raging but being here helps. My beast slowly sits down on the green grass.
"This place is indeed really nice...", Kai hums in our head.
"What did you expect? Our mate can't be wrong.", I answer. Kai sniffs the grass, rubbing the snout against the ground a little before rolling onto his back, enjoying the grass. "Oh c'mon. Behave a little. What would anyone say if they were to see an alpha rolling on the grass?"
"I don't care what they would say. I just want to have mate here with us...", he answers.
"Me too...", I sigh. My wolf simply lays on the grass, waiting for the time to pass so we can head back and talk to Shawn. Olivia needs to know.
Chapter 7
The Name in Heart
Kaden's POV
After wearing a new pair of clothes, I walk into the cafeteria to find Shawn and Cassie sitting at a table. I simply walk over and take a seat. The blonde male eyes me before glancing at Cassie. "I didn't know he was going to join us.", he says in a stern voice.
"Shawn...", she sighs, "You know we have to talk."
He scoffs, making me clench my fists under the table, "We don't have to talk about anything."
I feel my nails dig into my skin, "There certainly is something. Something that You kept a secret!"
Shawn narrows his eyes at me, "Indeed there is something... You have been following my sister."
I suppress a growl, "And I'm sure you know why."
The male crosses his arms, "I don't care about your reasons. Leave her alone. She has nothing to do with you!"
"Nothing to do with me?!", I snap and almost stand up to lunge at him but Cassie holds my arm, stopping me.
"Shawn, Kaden is Olivia's mate.", she says, trying to reason with the bastard.
The blonde narrows his eyes again, "Olivia already has a boyfriend."
"And whose fault is that?!", I raise my voice, "Whose fault is it that she has a human boyfriend?! Whose fault is it that she doesn't know?!"
Cassie squeezes my arm before whispering, "Not so loud, Kaden..."
"There is nothing for her to know..!", he clenched his jaws.
The brunette turns to him with a frown, "But she's a wolf and needs to know this to understand her feelings for Kaden.."
Shawn scoffs again, "Or, he can simply leave so her life is back to normal!"
"Normal?!", I struggle to keep my wolf from jumping out, "You call this Normal?! How can you even say that while having Cassie by your side?! How can you decide who gets to be with their mates and who doesn't?!"
The male stands up, startling his mate, "She is MY sister! So I get to decide what is good for her and what is not!"
I too stand up and glare at him, "And Cassie is mine! Should I stop her as well?!"
Cassie whimpers while still being seated. Her wolf wasn't strong enough to stand up when my dominating aura flowed around me. "Please don't involve me in this..."
My mate's brother and I glare at each other for a while before he grabs the brunette's hand, "We are done here!" He pulls her to her feet and turns around. I growl and grab him by his shoulder, turning him back on his feet. My eyes burn red as Kai almost comes to the surface. Shawn's eyes glow light blue as he glares back at me. It is as if our wolves are glaring at each other from right behind our skins. The female gasps before quickly coming in between us and placing her hands on our chest, trying to stop us.
"Stop...Please please...", she begs us as her wolf hurts by being inside my aura circle as it expands. The students in the cafeteria were looking at us, whispering and murmuring among themselves.
"He doesn't deserve to live!", Kai barks. I am more than willing to show him what it means to stop an Alpha from having his soulmate but for Cassie and Olivia's sake, I'm forced to stop. I just stare as Shawn turns and leaves the cafeteria with his mate.
"No he doesn't", I answer my wolf, "But Cassie doesn't deserve losing her fated one either... We both know what happens to a wolf when their mate dies." I hear Kai whine in the back of my head. I decide to head back home and think about what to do. This needs to be handled carefully. Brute force won't work here.
At night, I keep tossing and turning in bed. I can't sleep. "Need mate...", I hear my wolf whine. I groan before putting a pillow on my head and squeezing my eyes tighter. "Why are you fighting me?!", Kai lightly growls.
"You think I'm fighting you?! You think I don't want her here?! I'm stuck!", I answer before throwing the pillow at a wall. I breathe heavily, annoyed. I look at the sliding glass door. I can see the moon shining brightly outside. The leaves and grass look so beautiful in the moonlight. It reminds me of her sweet soft skin. I look at my thumb that I had run on her cheek. I shake my head. This isn't helping. I look outside again.
"Yes, running and tiring ourselves will help.", my wolf whispers. I can't tell if he is agreeing with my idea or is just being sarcastic but I stand up from my bed anyway and walk over to the sliding glass door. I open it and as soon as the fresh wind hits my face, Kai jumps out, taking over the control and running into the forest.
The next morning, my hand touches the sliding door as I drag my feet into my room. As I walk in, I look into the big mirror on the wall. The guy in the mirror I find looks miserable. My hair is messy and some strands are sticking to my sweaty forehead. I have dirt on my pale body. Some leaves are sticking here and there on my skin, nothing a warm bath cannot fix. What I'm bothered about is the tiredness evident on my face.
Our plan was to run around until we were tired enough to stop thinking about our mate and then go to sleep...but obviously, it didn't work. We just couldn't stop thinking and being angry about it. "You mean Your plan. Not ours!", my wolf huffs in my head, making me even madder.
"Oh yeah? What was your plan then?", I ask as I walk to the bathroom joined to my room. Inside, I turn on the warm water, letting the bathtub get filled.
"My plan was to go to Mate!", Kai wags his tail and makes happy puppy noises. I roll my eyes.
"That is not possible. I can't go to her dorm in the middle of the night. What would I say if she wakes up and finds us there?", I ask as I check the water temperature.
"Say that Cassie needed us for emotional support." I roll my eyes at his response. My wolf has become dumb... "Hey! I can hear that!", he growls but I don't pay attention to him as I slip into the water. I let out a soft hum as the warm water relaxes my muscles. We have been running all night without any break.
"Kaden?", Daniel walks into my room but then comes to the bathroom doorway. "You are getting ready for college?", he asks me. I look up at him without any facial expression. His face crunches up, "You look miserable." I groan at his words before washing my face. He shakes his head, "Just bring her over... We all can explain to her the wolf stuff ourselves.", he offers.
Yeah, I told him. He immediately knew something was up when I returned from college on the first day with a big smile on my face instead of a murderous look and chasing him around for putting me there. "I can't just kidnap her and bring her here..."
"No, but Cassie can ask her to come over for a sleepover or something. The headmaster would allow them all to take a day off.", he suggests.
"Yeah, but your Cassie's shit of a mate wouldn't let Olivia come here either. If only I could kill him.", I murmur the last part but I still get a towel yeeted to my face. I pull the towel off my face before glaring at Daniel who had his arms crossed.
"You are Not hurting my little sister's mate!", he declares and turns around, leaving.
I groan, "Like sister like brother."
In college, I am standing by the lockers, waiting for Olivia. What? Just because Shawn doesn't want me around her doesn't mean I'm actually going to stay away from her. I watch students taking out books from their lockers and hear them chattering. I suddenly smell lavender and a soft smile spreads on my face. I look up and find Olivia coming. She seems unsure and nervous as she walks to her locker and tries to unlock it. I quietly chuckle as she struggles with her locker again. She hasn't noticed me yet because I'm at the far end of the corridor. I glance at the werewolf next to me and he nods before approaching her.
Olivia's POV
I haven't seen Kaden since that incident in the basketball ground... Maybe he's avoiding me..? Did Shawn do something to him..? I'm afraid to ask him... What would I even ask him? 'Hey, Shawn..? Did you do something to Kaden because we were sitting together and almost kisse--'. My cheeks burn red at the thought. No, I'm not blushing, I'm embarrassed. I'm ashamed of my own self.
I am in a relationship with Josh. I have been in a relationship with him for over a year now but I have never kissed him. In fact, I haven't kissed anyone before...yet I almost gave my first kiss to Kaden. The more I think about it, the more excited yet guilty I feel. And the fact that one of the emotions I feel is also excitement makes me feel sick...
I shake my head as I put my focus on the locker door as it refuses to open once again. This locker hates me...
"Hey, umm excuse me?", I turn as I hear a boy call out to me.
"Yes..?", I ask him. I don't know him.
"Umm, sorry to ask but what are you doing with my locker?", the boy asks me, making me blink for a moment.
"Your locker..?", I couldn't sound more confused.
He nods before touching my locker, "Yes, mine."
I shake my head, "I think you are mistaken. It is mine."
"No, I think you are mistaken. Look.", he said before moving the dial to put in his own code and then pulling the locker door open. My eyes widen in surprise as the locker opens and inside was his stuff instead.
"But..", I feel at a loss for words.
He points at the other end of the corridor, "I think our lockers are swapped. So your stuff should be in that locker." I blink even more before quietly starting to walk where he pointed. Does College swap lockers..? What about the codes? What about my belongings..? Did they swap them too..? I didn't know they can do that.
As I walk over, I find Him, and my heart somersaults in my chest. I stop for a moment. Kaden is standing by my new locker. His black messy hair looks perfect like usual and his shirt is hugging his body. The only different thing is the black glasses on his eyes. I quickly go over, "Kaden..?"
He smiles and looks down at me, "Hey Olivia."
"Are you...okay..?", I point at his glasses. Did Shawn beat him?? An unpleasant feeling for my brother rises in my heart as I think of him hurting Kaden.
Kaden nods, "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just...had trouble sleeping. So..", he points at the glasses.
"Ohh...", I sigh in relief. "Did you have trouble in your dorm..?"
He shakes his head, "I don't stay in the dormitory, Olivia. I stay in my house."
"In your house?", I tilt my head.
"Yeah, I drive back home after classes and return back in the morning.", he explains, making me blink for a moment. My goodness, that must be tough. I look at the locker next to him. I walk over and try my code on it. To my surprise, it unlocks and opens with ease.
"At least I don't have to struggle with the locker anymore...", I softly speak.
"I'm glad you like it.", Kaden says, catching my attention again.
"Hmm?"
"I asked the authorities to give you a new locker because you kept struggling with that one.", he smirks at me, making my heart skip a beat. He did this for me...
I shake my head before lowering my head, "Kaden..."
"Yes..?", his soft voice melts my heart. Why is it like this? Why do I feel more connected to him than anyone else..?
"I'm sorry...", I sigh.
"Sorry..? For what?", he asks in concern. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah..but I got you in trouble yesterday...", I say referring to what happened.
Kaden's POV
Apologizing for yesterday..? But it wasn't her faults. It was neither of our fault. You are my mate, love... Wanting to be close to me is completely normal. I feel the words choke me as I struggle to keep them hidden from her. "Olivia..", I say softly. She looks up at me with those big innocent eyes. "It's not your fault... It's alrig--"
"Olivia!", I get interrupted by the human who walks over, making me clench my jaws.
My mate turns to him, "Josh?"
"You're here. I was looking for you.", he says before he eyes me with suspicion. I glare at him from behind my glasses. If looks could stab, this little human would have been mauled to death.
"Oh, I was just here to take my books.", she explains.
Josh glances at me again before looking back at her, "But isn't your locker that way?"
"No, it's changed now. I don't have to struggle with that locker now.", she explains. Just then the bell rings and the male sighs. "You have to go to your class.", she says to him to which he nods and then leaves. The blonde turns to me, "Want me to help you find your class?"
I nod before handing her my schedule. She hums while reading before starting to guide me. I follow her while thinking about Josh. He definitely hates me too. I glance at my mate, "Olivia?"
"Hmm?", she asks.
"How long have you been in a relationship with Josh?", as I ask, I notice how I caught her off guard.
Olivia's POV
I definitely wasn't expecting that question. I look up at him and see how serious he is before lowering my head again, "Almost over a year..."
I hear him softly hum before continuing, "So...do you love him?"
I suddenly stop at his question. It hits me like an arrow in my already bleeding heart. Do I love him? Do I love Joshua? I did start a relationship with him because I had feelings for him...but was it Love..? Was I too fast to get into a relationship? Was I simply just looking for something similar to what Shawn and Cassie have..?
