"But, I am glad to see you after so many years..." I smile softly. After my father passed away, I drowned myself in training...and as a daughter of an Alpha, I assume she too had been busy with her own. We stopped meeting but not by choice. "I'm surprised I didn't catch your scent until now."
She smirks at me, "I do know how to hide my...blueberry scent."
I slowly nod, "Yeah, that makes sense. I mean it is an important thing to lear--" I stop in mid-sentence before narrowing my eyes, "Did you say...blueberry..?"
Her smile grows bigger before she nods, "Yup!"
"You found your mate!", I lift her up before spinning her around and then placing her back on her feet. Us wolves can distinguish each other by their scents but the scent itself is not so different from a regular wolf. What our scent resembles to, though, can only be known by our mates. Our scents are what first attract them to us. I know my mate smells like lavender. What do I smell like...I don't know because my mate's wolf side hasn't woken up yet.
She chuckles, "Aww, aren't you jealous though? I'm off the menu." she teases.
I shake my head before softly blushing, "Not really... I found an interesting wolf here...that smells like lavender."
Her eyes shine before she hugs me tighter, "So happy for you!"
I smile before joining our foreheads together. We surely were close and although we haven't met each other for a long time, we still are close. Suddenly my most favorite scent hits me. Mate!
I quickly pull my head away to find her standing near a wall. Her eyes are fixed on us and her hand is holding onto her locket. She quickly averts her eyes when they met mine. "Olivia! You're here.", I smile at her. The dirty blonde slowly lets go of me and stands properly next to me with a respectable amount of space between us.
Olivia looks at me before slowly coming over. She keeps glancing at Sarah who tilts her head, probably wondering who this approaching girl is. "Hey, Kaden..", Olivia murmurs to me.
"Sarah, this is Olivia. She's Cassie's friend.", I introduce them. "And Olivia, this is Sarah, my childhood friend."
"Oh, Cassie's friend. I remember Cassie.", Sarah offers her hand to my love who hesitantly accepts it. "Woah, you smell weird..", Sarah comments.
"Smell weird..?", Olivia asks in a self-conscious tone. Shit!
"Oh, I know what that smell is. You haven't shif--", before Sarah could finish, I chime in.
"It was nice to meet you, Sarah, but we should head to our next class. It's getting late.", I quickly hold Olivia's shoulders and lead her away from her. I know Sarah was going to say 'Shifted'. Of course, she smelled it. She has Alpha blood in her like me.
I mind-link her, "Sarah, yes, she hasn't shifted yet and also doesn't know about our kind. Can you please not mention anything about our kind in front of her?"
"Sorry, I didn't know that. I will keep it in mind.", she replies.
Chapter 5
I’m With You
Kaden's POV
"So, you came to help me find my next class?", I ask the blonde as she walks next to me.
"Yeah... That's why I'm here.", Olivia's voice trails off, making me concerned. "Which class do you have now?"
"Math", I answer, looking at her face but she doesn't meet my gaze.
"Oh, it seems we are headed to the same place this time.", she says in a small voice, again making me concerned. Ever since she has come from her class, she hasn't shown me her beautiful smile... Did something happen in her class? Did someone say something to her?
"I'd kill anyone who dares trouble my mate!", Kai growls in the back of my head and I quietly nod along.
"You have Math too?", I ask her, trying to keep the conversation flowing. I don't want us to walk in complete silence.
"Yeah...", she again gives a half-hearted answer.
"Great, then let's go!", I try to excite her. She slowly looks up at me.
"Yeah but I have to take my books from my locker first... I hope you don't mind.", her words make me shake my head quickly in response.
"Not at all! In fact, I kept you waiting because I got busy talking to a friend.", I give her a soft smile, "Let's go to your locker." She quietly looks at me for a minute. I nudge her to continue walking. She nods and leads me to the lockers. Once we reach there, she unlocks her locker and grabs onto the handle but it wouldn't budge.
"Ughh...stuck as always!", she mumbles as she continues to struggle. I look at her in amusement as she uses All of her strength but still doesn't manage to get it open.
"My mate has tiny strength.", I chuckle in my head along with my wolf before shaking my head.
Olivia continues to pull, "Just...Open!" she scolds the poor non-living thing.
I bite my lip as I see this, "Do you want me to help?"
"No!", she snaps, making me lightly flinch. What happened..?
"Maybe mate doesn't want to seem helpless in front of us..? Let her try her best.", Kai reasons.
I look at her as she continues to pull. From the side view, I could see her face turn bright red. Is it really making her that angry..? Suddenly she lets go with a loud huff before placing her forehead against the cold metal. I quickly glance around and I notice how we are the only ones in the corridor. Everyone else must be in their classes already. I turn back to her only to find a line of tears down her cheek. She's crying??
She places her arm on the locker and hides her face in it, sobbing as quietly as possible but I could hear it. What happened? This can't be just because of the locker door.
Olivia's POV
He's talking to me the same way he was before. Is this simply the way he talks? Is he nice and warm to everyone? My thoughts run wild and the more they do, the sadder I get. It isn't right of me to feel this way just because I found him hugging and holding that girl.
"He is not mine to clai--", a sharp pain shoots in my heart as I think of that. I put on my brave face as I lead him to the locker room. Why such thoughts though..? Why such feelings..? Why..? I reach out and unlock my locker only to fail at opening its door. I grab onto it tight and pull harder but it's like I'm too weak...
Too weak... Yes... Haven't I always been too weak..? Too weak to help Shawn when we were growing up... Too weak to take a stand... Too weak to...understand and accept what my heart is shouting... But I don't want to be...yet must be...
I continue to struggle to pull the door open as my vision gets blurry with tears. It hurts... I don't know why but it hurts... This is so wrong... I'm so wrong...
"Do you want me to help?", I hear him offer, and tears pool in my eyes.
"No!", I snap. I don't need your help... I have been okay on my own without you. I have been okay... Everything was okay...
My hand starts to hurt by pulling on that metal piece. Everything hurts... I let go with a huff before resting my head against the locker. Why does it hurt..? I place my arm on the locker and hide my face in it as tears stream down my face freely.
I cry as all the emotions overwhelm me. Suddenly I feel a warm pair of arms wrap around my waist. I go quiet and my eyes open as I feel his warm chest press against my back. His nose slowly nuzzles into my neck, sending a tingling feeling through my skin. The warmth that spread throughout my body makes my heart swell. I stay completely still, almost afraid to lose it.
Kaden's POV
Watching her cry tears my heart apart. I have never felt so much pain in my entire life as I have felt all in one day. Her tiny shoulders move as she sobs. I don't want you hurting, love...
I slowly come closer to her and wrap my arms around her tiny body. My face goes into her neck as I just hold her close to me. I feel the sparks on my face and it makes me nuzzle her neck. Her body relaxes under my touch. My Love...
"Hey... Don't worry... I got you.", I whisper soothing words into her ear. "I am right here. I won't let you hurt... I'm with you..."
She suddenly turns around before hugging me tightly. I get surprised by her actions but quickly hug her back, holding her head against my chest. I hear my wolf howl in my head and I definitely felt like doing the same. I brush her hair with my fingers, trying to calm her down. I don't know what caused her to be so upset but as long as she lets me, I'd always be there to soothe her. We stay like that for a few minutes. Honestly, I begged the Moon Goddess to freeze time for me but I understand why she can't fulfill my silly wishes.
As Olivia slowly pulls away, I look at her soft red face before wiping her cheeks with my sleeves. She blushes softly, probably embarrassed. I smile at her before reaching out and grabbing her locker handle. She turns to the locker in time to see me open it with one quick pull. She blinks, "How did you..?"
I softly chuckle, "Did I impress you?" I tease her, trying to make the situation comfortable for her.
She pulls the books out, softly blushing, "No, it won't be that easy."
"Want to go to the washroom before class?", I ask her.
She quickly looks up at me with big eyes before turning redder, "No... I...Kaden, I..."
"What's wrong..?", I lightly tilt my head.
"I...", her voice goes low to a small whisper, "I...don't do the...'two people in one washroom cubicle'-thing... I-I'm sorry..."
Now it was my turn to blush hard. I quickly shake my head, "I didn't mean that! I was offering you to wash your face to remove tear stains!" She hears my explanation and lowers her head in even more embarrassment.
Now we both stand in the empty corridor, glowing red as tomatoes.
After good 8 minutes of us being awkward and embarrassed while we walked to the washroom and she washed her face, we reach the classroom where the professor was already teaching. As soon as his eyes fall on us, he strides over. "Ms. Vale! May I ask why you are so late for my class?", he scolds.
She freezes in her place, "S-sorry..."
"No! I won't accept this in my class! Go to my office!", he scolds. She looks apologetically at me before turning around to leave the class. I quickly hold her hand, stopping her from leaving. Sparks flow through our skins as our hands touch and I'm sure she felt it. She looks up at me in confusion and worry. I turn my gaze to the professor before lightly shielding her behind me. "Mr. Blake? I didn't know you were joining the college."
He looks at me before looking at my fingers intertwined with hers. "Sorry for getting late to the class. It's all my fault. I kept her from reaching on time. It won't happen in the future.", I said in a stern voice. My aura asserts dominance. Olivia looks at me in shock. She surely didn't expect me to say all this.
"Alpha, is Ms. Vale with you?", I hear the professor mind-link me. I simply nod and he steps away a little from the doorway. "Well, I'm sure you two will be careful next time. Please take your seats."
I glance at her shocked face and give her a smirk as I lead her to our seats. "I didn't expect him to let us go..", my sweet mate whispers to me.
I smirk even more before looking at her and whispering back, "I told you, I got you..." And I won't let anyone trouble you. She smiles under my gaze.
There was someone from my pack sitting there but as soon as he saw me walk over, he quickly stood up and sat somewhere else to make space for his Luna. Yes, as my mate, she is the female alpha, the Luna. Alas, she doesn't even know.
Chapter 6
Guilt
Kaden's POV
"Mr. Blake, I'm still waiting for your answer.", a professor says in a stern voice. Damn it! I glance at Olivia who was sitting on a seat next to mine. She was looking at me with concern. Just yesterday I was showing her how she can never get in trouble in college and here I am today, the center of attention. "It's a very simple and easy question that you could have answered if you were paying attention."
I meet the history professor's gaze before quickly glancing at two boys in the class who belong to my pack. "What is the answer to the question?", I mind-link them.
"S-sorry, Alpha... We don't know the answer...", comes their response in my head, making me glare at them.
"Why do you two even attend the classes if you don't focus on your studies?!", I scold only to hear them whimper in my head. I look at the professor again. If he was a werewolf too, he wouldn't have dared to make me stand and answer a question. They all are making me have a bad impression on my mate! I glance at her.
"47...", Olivia murmurs but with my heightened hearing ability, I hear it clear.
"47!", I answer, "The answer is 47!"
The old male raises an eyebrow, "I asked for the year when the fire incident happened."
I blink for a moment, "Then...1947..?"
"It's 1847!", he thunders. I roll my eyes. No wonder humans are making no real progress. They keep wasting their time learning such useless details! What's the point in memorizing these dates and years? It won't make them any better as a warrior. "Go stand outside! I'll talk to you after the class!"
I blink again and stare at him in disbelief. "Can we kill him?! He's scolding us, the Alpha of Blue Moon pack, in front of our mate!", Kai growls in my head and I fight the urge to give in to my wolf's desire as I walk out of the classroom. This is so stupid! This morning, I had my chemistry exchanged for history so I have most of my schedule match Olivia's. All the effort I had to do only to be disrespected like this in front of the entire class. I narrow my eyes before mind-linking Cassie.
"Ask the headmaster to fire the history teacher!", I snap.
"Wha--? What happened?", comes her response in my head.
"He scolded me in front of the entire class! In front of Olivia!", I growl.
"Ooph, that is harsh...", she replies.
"Exactly! So get him out of college!", I continue.
"No, you are being harsh!", she hisses.
"Me?? I got embarrassed in front of Olivia! What would she think of me now?? Why would she want to be my mate??", I shout.
"Calm down, Kaden... Olivia is like a normal college student. And getting scolded by professors is normal.", she tries to explain to me.
"IS it though?? I'm an Alpha!"
"He is a human teacher, Kaden. He doesn't know all this. Calm down.", she reasons with me.
I sigh before rubbing my face, "Fine... What about Shawn? You were going to introduce me to him properly yesterday and get this mess sorted."
She goes quiet for a moment before replying, "Yeah... I have been trying to talk to him about it but he hasn't been listening... It's like he is avoiding the topic on purpose..."
Anger boils inside me, "So should I beat him to a pulp so he can't walk away from the topic?"
"Kaden! He's my mate!", she scolds.
"Well, your mate is the reason I'm not being acknowledged by mine!"
"Just...give me time. I'm trying to talk to him.", she replies. I was about to say more but the bell rings and the students start coming out of the class. The professor comes out too and warns me about not paying attention next time. Of course, I wasn't paying attention. I came to this class only for my mate.
"Kaden..?", I hear Olivia call out to me with a worried tone and I turn to look at her. "I'm sorry... I should have been more specific..."
"It's okay! It's not your fault", I rush to calm her before scratching the back of my head, "I wasn't paying attention...but you don't have to worry." She looks up at me with big innocent eyes. How can I not fall for her? "What's your next class?", I ask her.
"It's kinda free.", she replies, fidgeting with her book.
"Then how about you show me around the college?"
"Yeah, I can do that.", she says before leading us to the locker area. I watch her struggle with her locker door again and I shake my head. I help her open it again.
"Why has her wolf side not kicked in yet? She'd be stronger once it does.", my wolf asks.
"It's probably because she wasn't introduced to her wolf side. It has been kept hidden and hence, she never tried awakening it.", I explain to him.
"But now that we are here, she needs to know about all this stuff to understand her feelings for us.", Kai expresses his concern.
"I know..", I sigh in my head. Olivia shows me around the college before we decide to sit on the basketball ground and watch others practice. It was in the open and a short wall separated the college from the wild trees. We quietly watch them practice for a while.
"Kaden?", Olivia catches my attention.
"Yes?", I ask her, turning my head towards her only to find her looking beyond the wall.
"You see that tiny hill over the wall..?", she gestures with a small nod.
I look over the wall and notice the hill in a small distance, "Yes, I do."
"I like the idea of spending time there...", she simply says.
I quickly look at her, "You mean...with me?" I didn't expect her to want to go out with me. I mean, as a mate, I understand the desire to spend time with each other but...she still doesn't know about our bond and... I mean, I just didn't expect it.
Olivia's POV
My face turns red. I don't know why I told him this... It surely sounded weird. It's just, looking at that hill... It seems so peaceful, so beautiful. I want to spend time there...but now that I think about having Kaden there with me...it feels even better. Just being close to him brings me a sense of safety... Like I want to be with him.
"Be with him??", my inner voice screams in my head. "You have a Boyfriend for crying out loud! What Are you doing??" Guilt washes over me and I turn my head away in embarrassment.
"Hey..", I hear him softly say before suddenly feeling sparks on my hand as the boy takes it with his own. I look down at our hands. The sparks are soft and give me butterflies in my stomach like usual. It only happens when he touches me... I look up at him. "I would love to go out with you..", he continues.
"That's...", my face turns redder, "That's not what I meant though..." I lower my head. Suddenly my eyes widen as his hand cup my face, sending those tingling sparks through my cheek. My eyes slowly close at the sensation and I subconsciously lean into his touch.
Kaden's POV
Watching her react like this to my touch made it hard for me to not pick her up right now and take her home, marking her as my mate. There are stages of mating. The first stage is when the mates find each other and acknowledge each other as their other halves. In this phase, they try to be as close to each other as possible, making the bond stronger. The stronger it gets, the harder it gets to resist the bond.
