The brunette stands right next to me. I lower my head to avoid his gaze but still feel his eyes on me...but it doesn't make me nervous or scared...or creeped out. It makes me feel proud and safe. Like this is where I belong, right next to him. What is wrong with me?
"Shawn, meet my brother, Kaden.", Cassie introduces them, making my head shoot up only to find Shawn and the most handsom-- I mean, Kaden, shaking hands.
"Nice to meet you, buddy.", my brother smiles.
"Pleasure is all mine", The raven-haired boy says in his mesmerizing voice. I could hear it all day...
"Oh my god, Olivia! Get a hold of yourself!", my conscience barks at me again.
"And Kaden, this is Olivia, Shawn's sister.", Cassie introduces us.
"Hey", he says, making my heart skip a beat.
"H-Hillo... I mean, Hello", I feel all the heat rush to my cheeks. How come he has such an effect on me? I never felt like this. This feels so wrong! And...right at the same time...
I break through my inner turmoil only to find his hand offered to me for a handshake. His hand...is a definition of perfection! "Shut up! Just shake his hand!", my conscience screams again and I raise my hand to take his but before our skins could meet, someone calls out my name.
"Livia!"
I quickly turn to find Josh standing at the doorway. "Josh!", I almost gasp as guilt overflows me. His dirty blonde hair was cut short which matched his warm ivory skin.
He quickly comes over and pulls me into his embrace. It's been such a long time since he held me like this...but why do I suddenly feel uncomfortable like this..? It's like his warmth is suffocating me. Josh's not him.
I shake my head, "Josh, you can let go now.." His grip lightly tightens around me as his face nuzzles my shoulder blade.
"Oh c'mon! We are meeting after a long time! Let me hold you a bit longer."
I was about to simply give up when I suddenly hear a low growl.
"You heard her! Let go of her!", Kaden commanded.
My boyfriend quickly lets go of me and looks at him in confusion. I turn to the raven-haired male and spot anger in his eyes. Is he..angry because Josh didn't let go when I asked him to..? Josh wraps an arm around my shoulders, "And you are?"
"Oh Josh, meet my brother, Kaden.", Cassie introduces in quite a troubled tone. Josh eyes Kaden from head to toe. "And Kaden, this is Joshua...He is...", she clears her throat before continuing, "He's Olivia's boyfriend.."
Kaden's eyes widen before quickly looking at me. I could see the shock in his eyes and...disappointment..? For some reason, my heart started to sink to the bottom of my stomach. Cassie's brother averted his eyes and clears his throat, "Well... I-I better head back to my seat."
"Yeah, it will definitely be better.", Josh snaps. Why is Josh being so rude? He never talks like this. Kaden turns around and heads back to his seat. Cassie gives him a sad look before turning to us. I don't understand why...but I suddenly feel so alone now that Kaden isn't here...
"You need to Focus, Olivia! You don't care about him! You're in a relationship!", I scold myself but it didn't stop the sadness from growing in my heart.
"So Josh, are you gonna join us in the cafeteria later?", Shawn asked.
"Yeah! I surely will.", Josh replied before holding my hand. It used to make me feel happy before but right now...it feels like I shouldn't be with him.
Chapter 2
Mate
Olivia's POV
I look at my brother who quickly kisses Cassie's forehead, "Well, we better head to our classes."
The love birds walk out of the classroom. Josh quickly pulls me for another hug and kisses my head, "See you soon, sweet pea."
"Yeah...", I murmured half-heartedly, "See you after the class.." I watch him leave the classroom before turning around to find a vacant seat. The only seat available is the one in the corner. No other option... As I was about to take it, a boy approaches me.
"Hey, if you don't mind, will you switch seats with me?", he nervously smiles.
"Sure", I answer, watching him take my seat. I turn around to see which seat belonged to him before the heat returns to my face. It's the one next to Kaden! I quietly sit next to him. Where I belong. I shake my head, confused by the feeling.
A tall male enters the class, fixing his spectacles, "Morning class! Please get seated!" He starts writing stuff on the board.
I was listening to him when Kaden whispers to me, "Hey... Olivia?"
"Yes?", I lightly glance at him.
"Can I borrow a pen?", he whispers.
"Sure!" I offer him a pen. The male reaches out to take it when his fingers brush against mine. Sparks! Sparks run down my hand. What was that? What happened??
"Thank you", he smiles.
"You're...welcome", I reply while trying to stop blushing at the sensation.
Kaden's POV
I am peacefully laying on my bed, enjoying the comfort of my silk sheets.
"Hey, you up, Kaden?", a tall male in his late 20s enters my room.
I glance at him before putting a pillow on my head, "What do you think, Daniel?"
"I think you're late for college.", he answers, crossing his arms.
"College?", I quickly sit up, looking at him with a tilted head. "Why would I go to college?"
"Because I called the headmaster and asked him to let you join."
"Oh great!", I lay back on the bed, "Now ask him to get me Out of his college."
"Sorry, can't do that.", Daniel crosses his arms again.
I raise an eyebrow, "You aren't serious, are you?"
"What do you think, Kaden?", he copies my words.
"You really expect me to go!", I gasp in surprise.
"That's why I got your name there.", he shrugs.
"But what am I supposed to do there?" I complain.
"You can learn some stuff."
"I already know the stuff I need! Hearing, tracking, hunting, fighting. I even learned how to hide my own tracks and scent!", I argue. "So I don't need to go! Get my name out!"
"As I said before, I can't do that.", Daniel replies.
"I am your Alpha! You must obey my Every command!", I growl and my eyes glow red.
He lowers his head in submission, "Forgive me, Alpha...but I'm doing this for my sister.."
"Doing this for your sister?", I ask in confusion.
Suddenly Cassie enters my room and gives me a big hug, "Isn't this a Perfect day?"
"Cassie!", Daniel scolds her. She turns her head to him. "How many times have I told you to knock before entering Kaden's room!"
She lets go of me before crossing her arms, "I don't need permission to enter either of my brothers' rooms!"
Daniel sighs in annoyance. "It's alright.", I defend her before stroking her hair. "Morning, sister."
"Say the Perfect morning!", she chirps.
"Perfect, eh?", Daniel hums.
"Yes! Today I'll be going back to college after a long time!", she starts to jump around the room like a little puppy, "I can't wait to meet Shawn!"
"Ah, your mate, right?", Daniel hums again.
She nods frantically. I chuckle, "So that's why you're so chirpy!"
"Hate to break it to you, sis, but...you're not going.", Daniel shakes his head, stopping our sister from jumping.
She turns to him with wide eyes, "What?? Why??"
"Because Alpha has refused to accompany you to the college. And I am not letting you go and stay there on your own." Daniel says in a 'matter-of-fact' tone.
"But I won't be on my own! I'll have Shawn!", she protests.
"Exactly!", I chime in, "What's the point of having a mate if he can't even protect her?" I wink at her and she smiles wide.
"Nope! I'm not ready to take any risks. Rogues could still be out there", Daniel states.
"Oh c'mon! I'm the sister of the Alpha and the Beta of Blue Moon Pack! Who will dare to harm me?", she whines.
"Exactly!", I defend her again, "What's the point of you being the Beta if this doesn't even mean she's safe in the college whose headmaster is a member of our pack?"
"Pleasee?", she whines again.
"When I said no, it means no!", Daniel scolds.
"Kaden, please ask him to allow me to go... I can't stay away from my mate any longer... My heart aches without him!", she looks at me with pleading eyes.
"Daniel, let her go", I say in a calm tone.
"No offense, Alpha, but this is a family matter.", Daniel says lowering his head a little. Our sister looks at him with puppy eyes and makes whining noises. "Don't give me the puppy eyes! Why don't you try them on the Alpha? Maybe he will change his mind and accompany you."
I roll my eyes as he points at me. Cassie turns to me and gives me her best puppy eyes. "Fine! I'll accompany you..."
"Yay!!", Cassie jumps and hugs me tight. "Thank you!"
"Try not to suffocate our Alpha", Daniel clears his throat.
She lets go of me, "Sorry about that. I'm so excited! I better go and pack my stuff!" She runs out of the room.
"Sorry about all that, Alpha." Daniel turns to me. I'm starting to get annoyed by all this formal 'Alpha' talk. I've known Daniel for a long time. He is also older than me and is the most trusted Beta I could ever have.
"Cut the 'Alpha' crap. You can call me by name like you always do."
"Well, I don't think it is right. After all, my rank as a Beta is lower than yours. You're the Alpha. And as you said, I must obey your every command.", he lowers his head again. He's still mad about my choice of words earlier.
"Okay okay... I understand. I shouldn't have said it like that.", I say in a calm tone.
"It's alright..", he sighs. I can tell that he is hurt by my words but he quickly shakes his head and looks at me with a teasing smile. "Can't believe you can get soo angry just by the thought of going to college."
"You better not say it in front of the others!", I huff.
He chuckles, "Can't promise anything."
"Daniel!"
He just laughs and I too join him soon. When our laughter stops, he looks at me with a smile. "Thank you for helping me. I am worried about my little sister."
"Yeah, I get it.", I hum before shaking my head, "But I won't be staying in the dorms." Daniel looks at me with a tilted head. "I'll be back home as soon as the classes end."
"But then who would look after Cassie?", he asks.
"She can look after herself and she will also be having her mate to look after her. You know the mate bond is strong. He won't let anything happen to her.", I explain.
"Fine...", he gives in before letting out a long breath, "Thanks though." I nod and he walks out of my room.
After taking a shower, I head to the dining room. The long table was decorated with different dishes and almost every pack member was eating when I entered. As soon as they notice me, they stand up to show their respect for me. I eat some pancakes before heading out of the house and into the woods. My house is surrounded by a forest which is the best place if one wants to ease their mind.
I really don't want to go to college. I don't have time to learn useless human knowledge. I don't need to know what cells are made up of and how many electrons my enemy has before attacking them. I walk a bit further and sit under a big oak tree. This is where I had my first shift when I was 10. I left school right after that and started my training with my dad. He taught me most of the things I know. I was really close to him.
But then...he died. He died from severe battle injuries from a pack war... Rogues. My mother...she too died later from a heartbreak. I was 11 back then.
Since then my Beta, Daniel, has taken care of me. He helped me become the next Alpha. His sister, Cassie, too supported me. They became like a brother and sister to me. Now I am an 18 years old boy with the responsibility of one of the biggest packs.
"Kaden? Are you here?", Cassie's voice in my head brings me out of my thoughts. I stand up and walk back to the house. It is a big house with more than 40 bedrooms, a big dining room, a huge hall, and other rooms. There are other small houses spread inside our territory but the pack members who want to stay, live in this house.
As I reach the sliding glass door, I spot Cassie holding her luggage. "Looks like someone is quite eager to go.", I tease her.
"Yes! I can't wait!", she smiles at me before handing me our bags. I chuckle before walking to our garage. I put her luggage in the backseat while she sits in the passenger's seat.
"By the way, I want to tell you that I won't be staying in the dorm.", I inform her as I slip into the driver's seat.
"What? Why not?", she tilts her head.
"I prefer staying in my house. My silky sheets and delicious pancakes in the morning.", I wink at her.
She shakes her head, "You are unbelievable!" We soon arrive at the college. As soon as I stop the car, Cassie jumps out of her seat. "Can't wait to see him!"
"Fine! You take your luggage and find your mate. I'll see you later.", I smile. She pulls me in for a big hug before taking her luggage to her dorm room. I shake my head as I see her jumping her way to her dorm. I understand that she's excited to meet her mate.
Mate bond is such a special bond like nothing else in this world. It ties two wolves together for their whole life. You can't live without your mate once you find them. But finding them is the trickiest part. No one knows who is chosen as your mate by the Moon Goddess but whosoever it is, they are the other half of your soul. Some wolves...never find them. Some spend their entire life looking for their significant other.
I haven't found my mate...but Daniel says that when I find her, I'll come to know. That she will become the most important person in my life. That touching her skin will shoot sparks in my body. That my heart will beat so fast that I won't be able to deny the fact that I've found my mate.
Sounds like a fairy tale, doesn't it?
I make my way to the headmaster's room. As I enter, the old man stands up and bows to me. "Alpha, it is an honor to have you here."
"Thank you. You may sit down.", I say in a stern voice. This college is the most trusted place as the headmaster is also a pack member. This made it safe for us werewolves. Now that I was attending the classes, some more of my pack members are guarding this place.
He hands me my schedule. I look at the sheet and find Math on it. I knew Daniel would add it to my subjects... I'm surely going to give him a piece of my mind later. "There are some rules here which I hope you will follow.", he says.
"What rules?", I ask.
"Although many students here are from different packs, there are some humans as well. So rule no 1 - No shifting inside the premises. Rule no 2 - No biting or hurting a human. Rule no 3 - No open talk about our secret.", he explains.
"I guess I'll have to obey all of them.", I sigh as he nods. "Fine, another thing, I won't be staying in the dormitory."
"Why not..? It can be made comfortable for you.", he offers.
"Let's just say, I prefer living in my own house. Also, as I'm the Alpha, I can't leave my pack alone like that. I must keep going back for regular checks.", I explain.
"Fine... I just hope you won't have any problem driving every day. Let me know if I can help you.", he stands up as I take my leave. My first class is English so I try to find my class. Luckily I find one of my pack members and he helps me find the class. I don't think I'd remember the way so fast anyway. I thank him for his help before taking my seat.
Here starts the boring part of any college... Studies! I would rather shift and run wild than sit here and take down notes. I run my hand through my black curly hair when suddenly a sweet fragrance fills my nostrils. My eyes immediately close and a soft purr leaves my throat. Lavender... I open my eyes. Where is that lovely scent coming from? My heart starts beating fast and a strange feeling starts rising in my gut. All of a sudden, I'm nervous...but excited too?
My eyes instinctively go over to the entrance. I get awestruck as a beautiful blonde enters the room. Her hair was loosely braided and rested on her shoulder. Her soft blue eyes were like a piece of art. It was then that time stopped. It was then that the purpose of my existence became clear. It was then that the world became more beautiful. It was then when I found...her.
I keep looking at her as my heartbeat rings in my ear and heat rises to my face. Mate!
Chapter 3
She Doesn’t Know
Kaden's POV
I can't believe it... She's here! My mate is here! I hear my wolf howl in the back of my head. I look at her perfect face as her eyes scan the room with such eagerness that almost resembled mine when I was waiting for the cause of the pull in my heart. Is she looking for me? My cheeks turn red at the thought. As our eyes meet, the pull in my heart almost made me jump out of my seat. How can a person be so beautiful..? So perfect?
As she looks at me, I give her my best smile. Her soft blue pearls fall directly onto my lips. She looks at them for a moment before averting her gaze, her face turning a bright shade of red. Mate blushes.
Well, I can't blame her. I too can feel the heat rising to my face. My fingertips are lightly cold but my heart is warm. It's like my heart is synchronizing with her very own. Suddenly someone calls out to her, catching her attention. A tall blonde male walks into the classroom and stands beside her. "Who the hell is he?" my wolf growls inside my head. I look at him as he smiles and blushes while talking to her. Oh, I am surely gonna help turn his face red...and blue!
I was about to stand up and kill the guy next to her when I noticed the chirpy brown-haired female enter the class. Cassie! I look at her with surprise as she pulls my mate for a hug. They know each other? I find her sharing a warm smile with the guy. Could it be..? Is he Shawn?
I quickly mind-link her, "Hey, sis? I think I found my mate."
"What? Oh my! I'm so happy for you!", she cheers. "Who is she? You gotta introduce me to her!"
"I think it's the opposite!", I chuckle in the mind-link.
"What do you mean..?" I hear her confused voice in my head which makes me chuckle even more.
"My mate is the one standing next to you!", I explain to her.
