CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
Once the topic of conversation moved on from the road trip, it devolved into smaller conversations, and George pulled Lukas into talking with him about some of the changes to the build. That left me to talk to Henry.
“I’ve been hearing lots of good things about you,” Henry said as soon as he’d finished eating. “Lukas said you made the wedding trip on the island bearable, and given he doesn’t like being cooped up with people like that, that’s saying something.”
I fought between wanting to frown or smile at the description of events from Henry’s point of view. It sounded both positive and negative to me.
“He didn’t seem as if he hated being there.” I shifted slightly to give Henry more of my attention, even though Lukas was right beside me and could probably hear us.
Henry chuckled. “Of course not. He had you to talk to. Let’s face it, going to weddings when you don’t have a date can be rough. Meeting someone in a similar line of work with similar interests is about the best result anyone could hope for. You’re like a fairytale ending waiting to happen.”
I blushed, not sure I agreed.
“What’s a fairytale ending waiting to happen?” Lukas asked, talking over my shoulder to Henry as George said goodbye and left.
It gave me just enough time to acknowledge the man leaving before I found myself sitting between two men talking about me. As if one wasn’t bad enough!
“I was telling Kit here that she rescued you. That you’re a typical alpha male who doesn’t like going to this sort of things alone.”
“You make me sound like a cad who can’t be seen in public without a pretty woman on his arm.” Although Lukas could have sounded angry about this, he was surprisingly calm, almost as if he knew Henry was being ridiculous.
“Well, if the boot fits…” Henry winked at me and chuckled again when Lukas folded his arms. He sort of pouted, and even I giggled at the mock annoyance and grumpy expression.
Eventually, Lukas shook his head and relaxed again. “No, I wasn’t too bothered by going to the wedding, but Henry has one thing right. Having you there made it a lot better than I’d expected it to be.”
“You made it a lot better for me, too,” I replied without thinking.
Silence followed my words as I looked at Lukas. His gaze was fixed on my face, and for a few seconds at least, the rest of the world melted away.
“I’m going to get another drink. Let me get you one as well,” Lukas said, breaking through the haze of the moment. He got up as my cheeks flushed for the second time in about five minutes. “Anyone else want one?”
Henry shook his head, and Sarai and Richard didn’t respond, both deep in a conversation with the woman on their right. She had been handling some of the other parts of the business I wasn’t involved in and would oversee the site management once it was complete. She would also hire the staff, get them set up, and take care of everything as it was finished.
It seemed as if she followed Sarai to each new site, leaving behind the ones that were working in other trusted hands after training up the people she needed. The business model seemed to be working well, and I was envious of how many people had come together to make this work, each brilliant at what they did. I felt as if I was the odd one out.
Before Henry could do more than bring the remaining bowls of nachos closer to us and offer some to me, Lukas was back.
“I ordered the dessert selection as well. Thought it would go down well, considering we’re all still here,” Lukas said as he slipped back into the seat beside me.
“Sorry, boss, I am going to have to bail on dessert, but I am sure you can eat mine. I’ll grab us breakfast tomorrow. I’ll get those brownies I know you like, too.” Henry got up as I smiled, understanding the exact brownie reference.
“I’ve heard a lot about these brownies, but I have yet to try them.”
“Next time we’re all on-site together, I’ll bring a whole box.” Henry waved and hurried away. I wondered how he was going to get back to where he needed to be when he had come here with Lukas, but he took the car keys with him. Lukas didn’t seem to be bothered that he wasn’t bringing them back.
I sipped the drink Lukas had just bought me, not sure what to say next. It had seemed like Henry wanted to talk to me more than Lukas did at times during the meal, and I didn’t know what to make of his enthusiasm when it was often followed by awkwardness.
“I meant what I said earlier,” Lukas spoke softly, almost whispering the words. I looked up at him, and the breath caught in my throat. He was looking at me so intensely again that I was sure he wanted to make me his dessert. Heat flushed through me, my body reacting to him.
Thoughts of what we had done together on the island came into my head, and I knew if he asked me if I wanted to do anything like that again, there would be no refusal.
“Henry can be a bit blunt and even a little over the top, but he’s a great guy, and he really does mean well. He wants to see me happy.”
I nodded, understanding exactly what he meant. “He sounds like the ideal friend. Someone who encourages us to be a little braver about how we feel. I’ve got a few friends like that.”
“Do you have much in the UK like that waiting for you to go back?”
Lukas spoke with such hope and curiosity for the answer that I knew I couldn’t give a glib response. I had to consider it carefully. I tilted my head to the side and thought about what mattered to me back home.
“I think I would miss my friends after a while, but I also don’t need to always be there with them. Same with my family. We’re all off, living our lives. I don’t think I need to always be in the UK. British chocolate, though…I already miss it. Yours just isn’t as good.”
Lukas laughed as I smiled. It helped to lighten the somber mood, and I hoped it would also reassure him that I wouldn’t just run back to the UK if he would like me to stay.
Before we could say anything else, Sarai, Richard, and the woman with them all got up as well.
“Leaving?” Lukas asked, checking his watch. “You guys are normally the last to head home.”
“We’ve got some more work to do to make sure everything is ready for tomorrow, and we promised each other that we would try and take some time together tonight.” Sarai shrugged and gave Richard’s arm a squeeze as if this wasn’t that surprising, but I felt bad for Lukas. He had ordered loads of desserts.
It also caused an avalanche as many others decided to leave for the night, citing all sorts of reasons. Although Lukas said goodbye to them all amiably enough, I knew if it had been me, I would have been upset by it. Somehow, he appeared fine. I knew that I had to stay, however.
“I hope you’re hungry,” Lukas said as the waitress came over with a massive platter of miniature desserts. Even she looked around at the now almost empty large table.
“I’m kind of hoping some of them will come back,” Lukas said as if this explained it.
“No worries if they don’t, honey. We can give you the rest in a box to take home or to the office tomorrow. They’d all keep in a fridge overnight, I’m sure.” The woman looked Lukas up and down as if she wanted to take him home, or for him to take her home at least.
He barely even looked at her as he thanked her and turned to me.
“Please tell me that you’re staying,” he said as he pulled the platter over to sit directly between us on the table.
“If you’d like me to,” I replied, smirking as I considered pretending to leave.
“Oh, there are lots of things I’d like to do with you right now, but let’s start with dessert, shall we?” He almost growled his words, the ‘hungry for something more than food’ look reappearing on his face.
I gulped, more heat rushing through me. He wanted me, and I was still very willing.
CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE
Lukas
Watching Kit fidget in her chair as I told her I wanted to do more to her than share dessert only made me more aroused. She was beautiful, and I had enjoyed spending the evening with her so far. Not only had Daniel been right about her and how much fun it would be to have someone to spend time with, but now that we had cleared up our little bit of misunderstanding, I found I liked her company even more.
On top of that, everyone else seemed to like her, and I took it as a good sign. Finally, her sense of humor had me relaxing every time I began to stress out about any element of this possible relationship.
When she blushed so much and seemed so sweetly subservient, always waiting for me to take the lead, I could only respond in one way. To lead her deeper in with me.
Without hesitation, I picked up my favorite of the desserts and lifted it up to her mouth. Her eyes went wide, and she froze, but I smiled and waited. Recovering quickly, she took a bite. As her eyes closed, the chocolate cream in the center flooding over her tongue, my grin grew even wider.
I waited patiently to feed her the second half and then licked my fingers. She watched every movement as she chewed, still looking like a deer in my headlights. It only made me want to enjoy her even more.
Although I hadn’t considered her response, I was even more pleased when she picked up a small cupcake-type dessert and brought it to my mouth. Her fingers shook a little, but I reached out to take her wrist and helped to guide her to my mouth.
As I took a bite, her eyes remained locked on me. The whole cake was small enough that I also ate it in two, but the second time, I deliberately put her fingers in my mouth and ran my tongue over them to make sure none of the chocolate butter frosting remained. And I took my time.
I heard her breath catch in her chest, and it made me smirk. Only when I had finally finished eating did I let go of her hand and allow it to return to her side.
She moved slowly, completely unsettled, her cheeks flushing in the sexiest way possible. Without hesitation, I got up.
“Come with me,” I said. I wanted her, and I wasn’t waiting to get her home. Although I half expected her to object, knowing she had to have some idea of what I intended to do, I was grateful when she simply got up and followed.
I led her to the restroom, knowing it was tucked out of the way, and took her hand before we reached it.
“Where are we going?” she asked, her voice small.
“Somewhere I can ravish your body.” I didn’t hesitate to tell her exactly what I wanted to do. She didn’t pull away as I opened the door to the men’s restroom and led her to the stall inside.
Her breathing was rapid, and she was still fixed on me, clearly unsure and not used to anything like this. As soon as I had her locked in the stall with me, I pulled her into my embrace.
“Don’t think. Don’t panic. Just focus on how this feels. Just us.”
She nodded right before I kissed her. I was very gentle at first, wanting to relax her nervous body and bring out the passion in her. I slipped both arms around her back, bringing her body closer. Bit by bit, I increased the pressure, holding her against me. At the same time, I kissed her harder.
At first she resisted, but the longer the kiss lasted, the more her body relaxed. As she yielded to me, I kissed her more passionately, exploring her mouth with my tongue.
While I showed her all the desire I felt, I let a hand roam, circling slowly from her back around to her front, feeling for the bottom of her blouse and slipping underneath. She sucked in a breath as my fingers brushed across her side, touching skin for the first time.
Still, she didn’t pull back, and my cock hardened. I shifted her around to be up against the stall wall, pinning her between me and it. She moaned as she felt my hardness against her.
Pulling away, I searched her expression for any hint that she might not want this. She reached for me, grabbing me with a fierceness I hadn’t expected. Letting out a chuckle at her eagerness, I didn’t let her bring me all the way back.
Instead, I lifted her blouse just enough to get to the buttons of her jeans. I undid them and pulled them down, being a little rougher than I needed, before I pinned her against the wall again.
She gasped, but I covered her mouth with mine again. Her hands started to roam, pulling at my shirt as she tried to get to my pants as well.
Again, I chuckled and lifted her hands above her head.
“I’ll take you when I’m ready,” I whispered in her ear. “You’re mine now.”
She let out a low moan, and I continued to explore her body with my free hand, kissing her and getting her hot and wet. She was already pretty needy, trying to thrust her hips at me every time I pulled back a little, and a quick run of my fingers down her panties let me know they were already soaked through.
I teased her a little more, running my fingers across the surface of the fabric with just enough pressure that she would be sure to feel it, but it would give her no relief at all. Only when I’d heard her whimper a few times did I decide I had pushed her enough. I undid my own pants, locked my lips with hers again, and freed my cock.
Again, I rubbed up against her, her panties still in the way for now. Finally, I lifted her, pulled them to the side, and slid my hard cock into her.
She groaned into my mouth as I kept her there for a second, holding her in place. Slowly, I thrust into her, getting as deep as I could. The stall squeaked under the pressure, but I could feel her reacting already to having me inside her. Her whole body had been far more pent up with desire than I had realized when I began, and each thrust took her further and further.
The little whimper noises she made as I fucked her drove me into a frenzy, and I shifted to a faster pace. Within seconds, she was moaning in ecstasy, crying out just enough that I kissed her again to stifle it. It tipped me over the edge, and I thrust into her deep, letting my own groans of pleasure be muffled by our kisses.
We stilled, her body still tight between me and the wall as we came back down again. Both of us were panting, and her hair was disheveled.
“You are amazing,” I said as I gently lowered her to the ground again.
Before she could respond in any way, I’d bent to retrieve her pants and lift them back up her body. She helped me, and then I did the same for me, tucking my shirt in. By the time we were decent again, we had both calmed down, and I reached up and helped straighten her hair where it had been tousled.
I took a good look at her, pretty sure any discerning person would be able to tell she had just been screwed, but otherwise, she would be fine.
Neither of us said a word as I took her hand again and led her back out of the restroom. I paused briefly at the door to make sure the coast was clear before heading back to the restaurant. We were most of the way to the table when our waitress spotted us. She gave me a knowing look.
For a moment, I thought she might object. Like most women who knew who I was, she had been flirtatious with me, but she didn’t say anything, only went to get a large box and brought it over to the table for us.
“So you can take the rest home,” she said, her gaze flicking between the two of us. Kit blushed and looked away, only confirming that something had happened.
“Can we get the bill as well, please?” I asked, drawing the attention back to me so she wasn’t embarrassed any longer than necessary.
As soon as we had the rest of the desserts in a box and I had settled the bill, I planned on doing exactly as suggested, taking them, and Kit, home.
CHAPTER FORTY
Kit
I didn’t know how we were going to leave, but Lukas seemed confident. He pulled out his phone a few times as we waited for the bill but soon put it away again.
While I tried to calm my body down, for more reasons than one, I gently shifted the desserts from the large platter to the box. I wasn’t sure they were going to fit.
“We should eat a few more of them,” Lukas said as if he was noticing the same problem. “Go ahead. They’ll only go to waste otherwise.”
He picked out a small fruit pie and bit into it, and I chose another of the more delicate-looking desserts I had started with. It was messy but tasty, and I used both hands to try and eat it this time.
Thankfully, Lukas didn’t try to feed me again, and we kept the fireworks to a minimum until we’d packed up everything and paid. Despite the lack of vehicle, Lukas got up and lifted the box.
“Come on, let’s go somewhere we can talk more,” he said, walking off before I could point out the lack of a car. I had no choice but to follow, to find out how he planned to go anywhere.
I avoided looking at our waitress again. Lukas had tipped her well, and she had smiled at him as if she’d hoped he would come back and take her to the restrooms sometime, too. It made me wonder how many women fawned over men like Lukas just because he was rich.
No sooner had we reached the door than a sleek black car pulled up near the door and paused. A chauffeur got out, nodded to Lukas, and opened one of the back doors for him.
As Lukas approached, the man held out his hand. “Shall I take that for you, sir?”
“That would be very helpful, thank you, Edward. We’re heading back to my apartment, please.”
I noticed I wasn’t asked if that was where I wanted to go and frowned. Despite my annoyance, I followed Lukas into the car. There was no other way for me to leave here, and I wanted to see what Lukas was thinking.
The back of the car was finished in a smooth black leather and was similar to the car Juno had picked me up from the airport in the first time I had flown to the US It was clearly a similar sort of deal, Lukas giving the driver a few more instructions before he settled back with me.
He put an arm around me as soon as we were alone. A few seconds later, the driver started the engine and pulled off with us in the back.
“Did you have this arranged beforehand at a specific time?” I asked, wondering if he had screwed me in the restroom because he had time to kill.
“No. I called for it when it was clear we would be the only ones left, and I would need a way home. Henry will be enjoying my car, no doubt.”
