The Rebellion of The Angels, page 3
Chapter II
A great scare
The descent from Heaven to Earth was, for both angels now transformed into human women, too fast and their arrival was not favourable at all, which was took place on the top of a high mountain of large rocks and abundant vegetables. Those vegetables that coexisted in the high summit were involved in an annoying wind produced by Experience and Youth´s landing for a moment. Thanks to their aureoles, they were deposited on the green carpet of the mountain, as if they were two sleeping belles, and thus, they fell asleep among the vegetables, curled up as if protecting themselves from a wind who barely sighed from the west.
The aureoles automatically became the guardian angels of Experience and Youth —Those who looked like butterflies, but faster than these— And settled down on the crust of a rock that appeared among the vegetables, waiting for their protégées to wake up.
But it was the nature that woke up before the young girls, in a smiling expression. The morning was happy and clear as spring, and the sun shone approaching the top of that mountain envied by such pleasant visits, because in silence the Star King eluded the lower clouds. From the forests to the South, there was a smell of mint emanating from the eucalyptus trees, and the fruits of a neighbouring community shone like gold. The perfume of the mint came from the mountains. As if they could speak, many of them seemed to whisper to each other under their breath, as if asking jealous: “Why one of their sisters was lucky to protect those precious creatures?”. “Maybe because it is the highest”, others would have answered.
The truth is that in that region, the smell of presence that only bright souls can emanate was in the air. These were two beautiful women as earthly ones, of course, but different for being two women in white, two angels with the skin of a woman, two celestial beings, pure and crystalline, as if coming from the sonorous spring that descended from the high peaks. Experience, was wise as nature and guardian as the honeysuckle; Youth, was generous as the earth in its capacity for offering, and graceful as a shooting star in all its tail.
Little by little, both angelic and young women were awakening under the grace of their movements, and as they stood up, they sprayed the high mountain and their plants and rocks with that soft and contemporary smell that only virgin and alive fragrance can have.
Experience yawned for a long time, and Youth cooled her face down. On one side, their wineskins, rags and rucksack, full of food and weapons, were waiting for the women to take them.
—What a beautiful landscape! —Experience exclaimed observing the fields and forests to the South.
—What a beautiful meadow! —Youth thought aloud, looking toward the North, since to the East and West there were more mountains, though none as high as the one where the young women were.
—I wonder if the man will know how to take care of these landscapes, of nature in general. I do not think the other worlds of this galaxy are as wonderful as this one —Youth continued while Experience took her clothes and headed towards a dark shelter made up of a large quartet of rocks. There she would take off her white clothes used during her life in the Heavenly country to put on some according to the human, earthly and feminine style. Moreover, their angelic clothes were also worn out with the celestial time.
—I do not know, but it would be a shame not to take care of such a beautiful planet —Experience answered already hidden among the rocks. Youth remained thoughtful for a few seconds and then she took one of the rucksacks which she did not hesitate to open, saying to herself:
—Let's see what the Lord gave to us —And she took out a kind of biscuits covered in leaves similar to those of the avocado, a wineskin or flat pot and a knife, without noticing that, at the bottom of the rucksack, there was a kind of cloth that was wide and long, which turned out to be a windcheater to protect them from the inclemency of earthly weather.
—There is not enough food for an angel's stomach —She continued listening to Experience who, coming out from the shelter already dressed as an earthly woman, answered:
—It is enough if we need supplies. Here we will have to look for our own food, Youth. God will no longer supply us as in Heaven, because for that reason he provided the Earth with the essential things, with the most varied species of seeds and animals.
—I will keep you as if you were a treasure —Youth assured the cookies, as if the food were listening to her.
Experience took her rucksack and, after inspecting it properly, she took out a knife and hung it in a kind of belt, where she also sheathed a sword. She crossed the bow and the quiver full of arrows on her chest, and put her rucksack on her back, observing the immediacy to the North, where beyond the fields, the meadows stretched, and beyond them, there was an large town among ruins, that bordered the North with a vast number of blossoming mountains, which were part of a long mountain range towards the West.
Soon after, it was Youth who, already dressed, equipped herself as Experience did and asked:
—Why do you think that God entrusted this mission to us?
—I do not know; perhaps because he saw how that long friendship between ... well ... I do not know whether to call him Lucifer or Satan, as God called him before sending him to hell, and Eyes of Heaven disappeared; and perhaps we were the only ones as united as they were, despite our age difference, that here on Earth and thanks to our woman's features, it is no longer important, given that the difference in age among humans is normal. And maybe God did not want the same thing to happen to us, or maybe he trusted precisely our friendship for this mission.
—Well, if so, he will not regret it, because we will do everything possible to achieve our goal, and because I will follow you wherever you go, even if you have to go through hell itself —Youth said.
—And I wil take care of you, and together we'll follow the Lord, who will enlighten us as always and forever —Experience said, as they hugged each other, as sisters perhaps, but more likely as inseparable friends, of an identical heavenly nature.
—Now, I'd like to know where to go —Youth said. Experience looked at the Heaven as if asking for an answer that she did not find, and that's why she sang, accompanied by Youth:
It is the Lord who will always enlighten my way
It is the Lord to whom I am going to entrust my destiny
It is the Lord who will give me his hands; He is my friend
It is the Lord who will accompany me on my way...
And the wind blew from North to South, and Experience and Youth continued singing and walking in that direction, spontaneously assumed, followed by their respective guardian angels that fluttered behind them. While in their descent at a firm and safe pace, they caressed the vegetables, which seemed to float on the mountain and among them, happy flowers and copihues grew.
They travelled a large section of the mountain, but the path that nature opened at their feet, still seemed far away. Later on, continuing with the descent, they had to cross an area where the tall grasses prevented them from seeing where they stepped on. This caused them a great delay, which at times was prolonged when a bird prowled near them, and they saw it smiling when it pass over their heads.
But the rapids that appeared then, with their torrential waters, allowed them —for their celestial gifts— to make up for the lost time due to the high vegetation, and both abandoned the tired pace held until then, making short and diagonal trots to one side and another, sliding along the rapids thanks to those gifts that allowed them to do so much, manifesting their happiness for their extemporaneous possibilities; since they did it as a game, as when they travelled through the clouds in the heaven during their free time, during the celestial life.
—Come on, Experience, you do not seem to be as young as you should — Youth said with a slight advantage—. I can already see the roads that nature drew beyond; one continues towards the East in the direction of those mountains, and the other moves towards the South —The first one did not lead anywhere in particular, since behind the mountains to the East, there were fields that bordered the sea many miles beyond. The second road, meanwhile, meandered around the eucalyptus forest and continued to the South, where the first towns of the East region were, many miles away.
Then, when they were about to leave the area of the rapids and entered new sectors of the mountain of growing and abundant vegetation. And very close to the path drew by nature bordering the foot of the mountain, Experience, perhaps because she had the auditory sense more developed than Youth, heard a sound of helmets coming from the West.
—Wait! Did you hear that? —She asked loudly and stopped walking.
—No, what... —And when she noticed the silhouettes of a group of horsemen that thanks to the effect of the sun, appeared like shadows to the West of the way, Experience threw herself on Youth saying:
—To the floor, throw yourself to the floor —Both rolled over the vegetation, which thanks to its height managed to hide them from those horsemen who galloped at full speed by the road at the foot of the mountain, a few meters ahead of Experience and Youth. Although they took refuge in time like their guardian angels that directed their actions, they could not avoid, due to their turbulent sliding along the rapids, that several cumulus of soil fell apart, which called the attention of those horsemen, that although they looked towards the mountain, they continued riding as if they were escaping from death... Experience and Youth stuck their heads out the vegetation, observing those horsemen who were lost to the East, and when they thought they were sheltered from all presence and they believed they could continue their walk, they heard, both at the same time, a strange noise that again came from the West. It seemed that someone was sliding tractor wheels along the ground, accompanied by a sound that was different from the gallop of horses, as if someone stepped on a dry and hard grass, or what was perhaps more feasible, as if they used a plough to work the land... The truth is that on that road, which meandered at the foot of the mountain, before their eyes, a group of striking black balls appeared, and something like dozens of needles emerged from them. Unlike the horsemen, they stopped on the road in front of where Experience and Youth were hidden, as if they knew about their presence; shortly after, the black balls opened, reaching a height of approximately a meter, revealing their true identity... and although it might be surprising, they were murderous capybaras, who had precisely needles all over their bodies, like darts as a deadly weapon.
Frightened by the new discovery, Youth groaned in horror, and to avoid any other gesture that informed their presence Experience covered Youth’s mouth, since those murderous capybaras seemed to perceive them as they stopped along the way.
The capybaras, through their developed sense of smell, tried to find out whether or not there was someone prowling the area, and even they positioned themselves facing the mountain. But aware of their limitations, that is to say, not being able to climb the mountains, no matter how much they rolled over the floor due to their weight, they rolled up again like balls and they continued on their way to the East, as if following the tracks previously left by the horsemen, as they were apparently behind them...
—Now I understand the hurry of those horsemen —Youth thought—. We must help them. Come on, Experience —Youth appeared among the vegetation and shot off, jumping to avoid the flora that stopped her, as if she was walking out to sea—. We will reach them flying —Youth shouted, and when she dove to flight, it was too late for Experience to remind her that they could not fly on Earth, so she exclaimed "Oh no" since Youth did nothing but carrying out her imminent landing on the vegetation of that mountain, falling several meters ahead, and Experience lost sight of her.
—Youth, Youth...! —Her friend called, who knew in what direction her companion had gone, but not in the exact place where the vegetation had slowed her down, so she searched desperately for her—. ¡Youth, Youth...! —Experience continued calling her friend, until a few meters in front of her, Youth showed her head with her blond hair totally green, due to the effect of crossing the pastures so accidentally travelled. Then she reproached:
—You could have reminded me that we could not fly on Earth —Experience approached her friend who was removing the grass from her head, and she helped her to recover with a smile, because Youth did not show any pain or discomfort and that reassured both of them.
Somewhat answered, Experience thought out loud:
—How strange were those creatures! —In reference to the murderous capybaras. Then, one of them already recovered from her fall, and the other overcame her concern for that fall. Accompanied by the sunset twilight and their guardian angels, Experience and Youth continued the route, which was not longer extensive, until they reached the road that bordered the foot of the mountain, and they only had to leave behind a stretch of vegetation that reached their knees, but it was decreasing as they moved forward.
—I think we will not take any of the two natural paths —Experience said.
—So? —Youth asked.
—I do not think the path that ascends in the direction of those mountains will take us somewhere, and considering that the one that swings to the South was taken by the horsemen and these strange creatures, maybe we should go to the South if we want to find a relevant clue in our cause; so we will cross the eucalyptus forest —Experience said, leaving the mountain behind and crossing the wide path that was at their feet.
—It does not seem bad —Youth answered—. At least we will not be as unprotected as we would be if we have followed this path. Although it is also true that those hairy bodies or some enemy human could camouflage themselves easily inside the forest and we could not notice their presence...
—That's why we must have our senses awake. Come, there is an entrance there —Experience pointed at the place, bordering on the eucalyptus forest, and entering there through a very small nook, that went into the forest like a path, preventing the passage of more than one person at the same time.
As they moved forward at a slow pace and removing the curtains of branches that obstructed their way, Youth bent down to pick up some eucalyptus leafs from which she consumed its fragrance, to continue like this, with the successive leaves that she found in her path without interruptions.
They continued walking inside the forest, and as they moved away from their safe edges, the light emanated by the sunset twilight separated from them. The wooded floor was increasingly populated as they moved to the bowels of the vegetal kingdom, while the light continued decreasing very fast. They entered a darker area, where trees did not grow in such excessive proximity, facilitating the movement. But in any case, such species managed to embrace in the heights, thanks to the size of the treetops, which seemed to toast with each other. Their roots were long and thin, but it did not mean they were not strong. On the other hand, the wrinkled skins of their trunks did not seem so strong, as if the summer sun had affected them.
The girls advanced a little more, listening to the gentle murmur that came down from the top of the trees, where the north wind still caressed them gently, letting their leaves talk silently.
The young women made a couple of meters more towards the South, with the light of the full moon on their backs and communicating in a very low voice during the whole journey through that forest to avoid unpleasant surprises. Suddenly, validating what Experience told her about having their senses awake, Youth felt as if someone was taking her nose to make her look towards the West, and after walking a few more meters, she asked her friend:
—Experience, do not you smell a different scent, a bit sweet, as if those canes produced it? —She said pointing at the west. Among the robust figures of the eucalyptus trees, some canes were seen that were part of the first formations of a cane field that extended to the infinite West.
—Yes, but…
—I will go to see what it is about —and Youth walked in that direction followed closely by Experience.
When they left behind the closed area of the forest, they walked a short stretch in the open field, and under the light of the moon and the stars they approached the cane field. Without going too far into the crop, Youth inspected a cane that in the light of the night was seen as white as the moon, touching the sap from which the sugar is extracted, and from which, licking her fingers, she enjoyed its sweetness. Then she expressed:
—It is sweet, taste —And while Experience smeared her fingers with the sweet juice of the cane, she expressed at the same time her most sincere concern:
—I think we will have to go through the forest towards the East. Although its twisted figure was seen from the mountain, I did not suppose that its inside would be cut by this cane field so abruptly.
Even if we could travel normally, I bet that this road would not take us anywhere; apparently it continues to the West and to the South in an infinite way —Experience thought coming out from the crops and looking to the South, to confirm her own words, since Youth did not answer her, who was so entertained tasting different canes, what was not a surprise, since they had not eaten or drunk throughout the day.
—Do not go away —Experience told her, going back to the cane fields, although much closer to the exit than Youth, who continued looking for the most burned canes because she had discovered that those were more tasty. From time to time they took their wineskins and drank a few sips of water, until Experience seemed to hear a strange noise, at least different from that produced by the canes disturbing each other because Youth did not leave them in peace. Then Experience, worried about the continuous repetition of that unknown sound, asked Youth under her breath to be quiet, and bending over and leant her ear on the floor, she heard what no human could have perceived, fundamental difference between those and the angels .
