  Secretary: Ok

Oh my god, I’m late. Damn it. There goes my attendance, my image, the professional that I am. It’s all Creed’s fault!

“Wonderful, simply wonderful,” I say, looking at my watch, trying to hurry down the parking lot as the rain starts falling in heavy intermittent bursts. I walk down the walkway, My briefcase strap slides down my shoulder, pull it back up and adjusted my purse trying to walk towards the big Martin, Martin, and Grant Tower I stop for a couple of seconds before I enter to look up at the imposing glass building, sighing.

I thought that this was the best opportunity ever; a new job at the prestigious Martin, Martin, and Grant Attorneys At Law was a dream, and I was anxious to excel, to prove myself, but I’m beginning to think not.

I’ve been working here with the law firm for a couple of months, doing nothing but legal assistant stuff? I worked hard in school for this, and it wasn’t cheap. Yeah, I did get some grants, but I also had to get a couple of school loans.

My purse fell off my shoulder, and I lean down to grab it. My long dark brown hair spreads around me, creating a curtain.

I’m so fucking frustrated, I feel clumsy, out of my depth, and I feel this damn ache in my tummy. Yeah, more like it’s an ominous warning, something is off. Damn it! I hate it when I feel this because it never fails; something happens.

God, I pull my purse strap over my shoulder. I then gather my long hair to drop it over my shoulders, down my back. I touch my face feeling the warmth of my cheeks. I know that I’m flushed red. I can’t believe this.

I start walking over to the large glass doors, the doors slide open, and I then walk over to the elevator walking inside sighing. The elevator compartment is blissfully empty.

I’m so glad that it’s cold inside the building. I don’t know why I’m so hot; it’s not like it’s hot in Sacramento this time of the year. It’s cool, and yet my heart is racing, I feel my face flush like a freaking tomato, so what’s the problem here, Heather? This job is a new one that you wanted for forever; you got this. I tell myself looking at my reflection in the elevator.

The elevator doors slide open, and I walk down the hall towards my office. I walk inside and place my briefcase on the chair. I slide open my drawer and put my purse inside the desk.

My secretary walks inside my office, looking fresh and neat. Yeah, making me feel sloppier and frustrated than ever before.

I look at her blond hair pulled up tight in a bun, her perfectly made-up face, and then, of course, her cute fitted black suit. The dudette looks fantastic every day. Always perfect, never a hair out of place. Geeze, she must be a Stepford secretary.

Oh, fuck! I look down at my fitted navy dress and soaked taupe trench coat.

I look up at her, smile as sweet as I can, crossing my arms.

“Julia, good morning,” I say, waiting to hear what she has to say.

Julia smiles smugly, nodding holds her tablet higher to read her notes.

“Ms. Wright, Mr. Martin would like to see you promptly at nine, and you have an appointment at ten,” Julia says, looking up, with an inscrutable expression on her face, holding the tablet to her chest.

It takes me a minute to respond; my heart speeds up; I feel the tightness in my chest; my anxiety takes over. I inhale deeply and exhale, trying to gain control of my tumultuous nerves.

  Oh, fuck!

“Thanks, Julia,” I say, nodding. I take off my trench coat and hang it on the coat hanger.

“Welcome,” Julia says, turning around to leave my office closing the door behind her.

Oh my god, I need to fix my hair, face, and it just figures that the boss wants to meet me on the worst day. Yeah, okay, I look like a wet dog.

I pull out my purse and take out my makeup bag. I start to fix my makeup, my hair, and then I adjust my dress. I pull out my silver heart that’s behind my dress. I look suitable as my hair dries. Then I pull it up in a bun; some tendrils fall around my face.

It’s the best I can do under the circumstances. I turn on my laptop and check my email. Then it’s time for me to see the boss. I bite my inner lip as I leave my office.

“Julia, I’m on my way to see Mr. Martin,” I say, looking at Julia.

“I’ll hold the fort,” Julia says, nodding solemnly.

I feel like she’s laughing at my expense. Damn it; I’m the attorney here, her boss. She really is getting on my nerves. Maybe, I need to put more effort into getting to know her; perhaps we can work closer together. I’m not going anywhere, and I need her on my side. I have to put away my insecurities around her.

I walk into the elevator, pushing the eleventh-floor button to where my boss’ office. The lift moves up; I look at my reflection in the elevator doors.

Ok, I don’t look bad. I think I just felt like I was all wet, just like that night. Fuck! I’ll never be able to forget him.

The elevator doors slide open, and I walk into the foyer. I walk towards Ms. Nelson, the boss’s secretary, smiling.

“Ms. Nelson, I have an appointment with Mr. Martin,” I say, clasping my hands in front of me to control the trembling.

“Yes, Ms. Wright, Mr. Martin, is expecting you. Right this way,” Ms. Nelson pushes away from her chair and walks down the hall.

I follow her and stop a foot away from her. She knocks on the door.

  “Enter,” Mr. Martin roars.

Ms. Nelson turns the doorknob and pushes it open. She walks inside, and I follow her.

“Mr. Martin, Ms. Wright, is here for the appointment,” Ms. Nelson, says nodding.

“Thank you, Ms. Nelson, Please hold my calls,” Mr. Martin says, setting down his cell.

“Certainly sir,” Ms. Nelson says, walking out of the office, closing the door quietly behind her.

Mr. Martin looks at me, extends his arm waving his hand.

“Ms. Wright, please have a seat,” Mr. Martin says, clasping his hands on the desk.

“Good morning Mr. Martin,” I say, taking a seat. I look at him, placing my hands on my lap.

“Ms. Wright, I have an assignment for you, your first client. I need you to give this client a hundred percent of your knowledge and skills. This client is huge, significant to the firm. We handle all of their legal needs; therefore, I don’t want you to mess up,” Mr. Martin says, moving his fingers to create a temple, raising his eyebrows.

I gasp, smiling quickly, turning on my inner professional switch. My confidence comes flooding back in.

“Mr. Martin, I will give our client my all. Thank you for entrusting me with this special case, and I promise that you will be pleased with the outcome,” I say, smiling.

“Wonderful, that’s precisely the work that I expect from you, Ms. Wright. You have an appointment with our client at ten. I’ll have Ms. Nelson email you the pertinent information on our clients, so you have a clear understanding of the importance that this particular client is to our firm. I expect the best, and I know that you will not fail us. The client needs to win, and this case will be a good reference for all future consideration for future endeavors in the firm,” Mr. Martin says, nodding.

I grind my teeth to keep from gasping, giving away my fears, my anxiety of making the grade. Hell, no insecurities. I’m qualified to do this.

“Thank you again for the opportunity, you won’t be disappointed,” I say, standing.

“Great, make sure to inform me of any, and I mean any issues that may arise so we can take care of it,” Mr. Martin says, leaning back into his black chair.

“Yes,” I say, nodding. I walk towards the door, standing straight and confident.

I know that I got this! No way will I fuck this assignment up.

I walk down the hall, into the open elevator, and press my floor. I walk out of the elevator and stop at Julia’s desk.

“Julia, when my appointment at ten shows up, please bring him directly to my office. Also, please offer him something to drink,” I say, nodding.

“Yes, Ms. Wright,” Julia says, nodding.

“Wonderful, maybe we can have lunch later? I feel like we haven’t gotten to know each other much since I’ve started,” I say, looking at her surprised face.

I can see that she wants to say no, but she wants to know what I’m doing. Well, awesome, she’s going to be in my hand in no time. I’ll figure out what makes her tick because I need her to work with me.

Julia tilts her head, her eyes narrow, and slowly she smiles, nodding.

“Ms. Wright, that would be awesome,” Julia says, looking at me.

“Wonderful, we can have lunch at one,” I say, nodding. I walk to my office and close the door. I then walk over to my laptop to do some research on my client.

This case is actually a great surprise because my boss has faith in me. This client is essential to the firm, and I will treat them with the utmost professionalism. I’m so excited!

I open my email and click on the email from Ms. Nelson. I click the attached file to open it.

Oh my, the Hades Knights file is huge, there are so many documents to review.

I look through all of the information on the client.

I click on the Hades Asylum, the Hades After Dark fights, Hades Dry Cleaning, Styx Strip Club, Knights Repair and Salvage shop, and Eros Hotel files.

Geez, they have several businesses that can give them all sorts of issues.

I click on the most recent activity.

Ok, they do have a lot of run-ins with law enforcement, but they always come out clean. These business ventures do give the law a lot of areas to mess with the clients.

This is my new client? I need to put away any judgmental bias that I have because protecting them, and proving their innocence, will be my highest priority.

I will always see them innocent until the DA proves them guilty. So, that’s my job, and that’s what I’ll do.

I smile, happy with my new case and client. I’m so lucky that the firm gave me such an important client. Now I feel that I’m on my way to proving my skills and my dedication to the firm.

I smile and tuck the long tendrils framing my face behind my ears.

  Five

  Creed

I walk out of Hades Asylum, down the walkway to my black Harley, my baby. Carter follows, and we reach our bikes parked down the parking lot.

I swing my leg over my seat, I grab my helmet, and I pull the straps. I grab my black leather gloves and turn the key in the ignition. It roars to life. Hell yes! I love the throaty roar of the engine, the power that blasts around me. Then I pull out, and Carter follows me onto the road.

Riding my bike will clear my mind. I love feeling the airflow around me, and the feeling of total freedom is extraordinary.

We drive down the freeway and then exit on J Street. We cruise down the road, and then I enter into the parking lot spotting the parking spot. I pull into it, and Carter pulls into the one on my right side. I turn off my bike, unbuckle my helmet, and place it on my handlebar. I inhale and exhale, closing my eyes.

“Let’s go inside; it’s time for our appointment,” Carter says, standing behind the bikes.

“Right,” I say, getting off my bike. I run my hands through my short haircut, adjust my sunglasses, and my cut. I take out the manila envelope from the side pocket in my cut.

Yeah, I’m not feeling right about this. This attorney needs to solve this quick because I know in my soul that I’m not the Father. I nod at Carter, and we walk down the parking lot and into the building. Then we enter the elevator, and I push the button, crossing my thick arms. I look at numbers until we reach our floor. The elevator doors slide open, I walk out, and Carter follows.

I walk into the foyer, looking around at the empty chairs, nodding. I’m pleased that the office is vacant. I walk towards the secretary, stopping in front of her desk. I place my hands on the counter, smiling at her.

“Hi, I’m Creed Ward, and I have an appointment at ten,” I say, to the gorgeous blond. I can’t help but take in her beautiful pouty mouth, and my eyes move down to look at her firm breasts. Ah, nice.

Julia smiles, her eyes widen, and licks her luscious lower lip. I look at the name on the countertop. Uh, Julia is sweet.

“Mr. Ward, yes, we were expecting you,” the willowy secretary says, pushing off her chair. She takes a few steps and turns to look over her shoulder, smiling.

I look at her beautiful ass sway; then, I look up to gaze into her all-knowing blue eyes. I grin, shrugging. I’m not going to apologize for admiring some fine ass, and she sure as hell looks like she’s interested. Who would have known? I guess it’s true that good girls want to mess around with the bad boys, oh yeah, make that bad biker boy. I grin, and Carter elbows me on the side, nodding at the sweet secretary.

“Mr. Ward, if you’ll please follow me,” Julia says, smiling at Creed and Carter. She walks down the hall swaying her hips a little more than usual.

I look at Carter, nodding, and winking at him.

  “Hmm . . . . mmm,” Carter moans, nodding.

The secretary stops at a door, knocks, and then opens the door.

“Your appointment is here,” Julia says, smiling at me, waving me in.

I smile at her as I walk into the office with Carter behind me. Carter closes the door as he enters

I glance at the attorney and then take a seat. Carter takes the seat next to me.

  Oh, fuck! What the hell.

My blood rushes to my cock, swelling into a hungry monster. Fuck! I shift in my seat, trying to allow more room.

One look at her, I remember every hot night, every kiss, every caress, and every time I was balls deep inside her tight hot pussy. I’m going to die!

My body doesn’t want to listen to reason. Damn it! My soul roars to life after being dormant for so long. What the fuck! I can’t allow that little skank anywhere near me. I know what she wants, and it’s not happening.

I look at her as she glares up at me as if I was the one that fucked up. She’s insane, and now what? She’s my attorney. I fall back into the leather chair, crossing my arms.

I stare at her stone-faced, taking in her reddened soft cheeks, then at her seething shiny golden eyes.

  What the fuck!

She’s still as gorgeous as ever, but I’m not going to fall for her.

  Hell, is this real.

  Is she furious at me?

Really? I’m the one that was fucked over!

“Hello, I have an appointment,” I say, holding the manila envelope in my right hand. I squint my eyes, hiding my wrath.

Carter leans back in the chair, casually, crosses his legs, and extends his arms on the armrests.

“Yes, of course, Mr. Ward, I’m your attorney, Heather Wright,” Heather says, looking at her laptop.

“This is Carter Myers,” I say, looking at her flipping my right-hand thumb towards Carter.

“Hi Mr. Myers, how can I help you, Mr. Ward?” Heather says, nodding at Carter. She looks at the manila envelope clutched in my hands, raising her right eyebrow.

I cough, and shift in my chair, and clench my jaw tight. The nerve twitches on the side of my face, and I squint my eyes.

“Yes, I was served this morning with this Paternity case,” I say, clenching my left hand holding the manila envelope.

Fuck! Out of all the fucking attorneys in this city, I get Heather. This is fucked up! Now she knows my business!

Heather gasps, clasping her hands in front of her chest, her big eyes widen. All color in her complexion drains out.

  Well, isn’t that something.

  Does she fucking care?

  How dare she look upset.

  What the fuck!

  Six

  Heather

I involuntary jerk as intense emotions assault my body. I inhale and exhale, looking at Creed. I hold my pen real tight, almost breaking it, biting my lower lip.

  What was that?

  Paternity case?

  Oh my god!

This assignment is more painful than I thought it would be, it feels like a betrayal, Right, I didn’t mean anything to him. It looks like I’m the only one abstaining from all sexual relations. Yeah, I was too busy studying, and I couldn’t bear the thought of another man.

Oh damn! I thought that I would never see him again in my life. That asshole played me! That summer was incredible; it was fucking heavenly, promises, and love. But it was all lies. He disappeared, and I never heard from him for years. Now he’s right here, in front of me, looking like sin and all the dark, sexy things that go bump in the night. And I can’t believe he’s my client!

I move my hand to rub my temple for a second. I extend my hand, looking at the envelope.

“May I please see the court documents?” I ask, looking at his hand. I nervously chew on my lower lip, unable to look into his beautiful green eyes.

Did Creed knock up a girl and disappeared on his kid?

Did I totally fuck up on my judgment of who he is, his character, and his vices?

I did know he was a bad boy, but I thought he had a huge heart.

He shoves the envelope into my hand, and I gasp, holding onto it tightly. I nervously bite my lip. I slowly pull out the papers, and I quickly scan over them.

“Mr. Ward is the child yours?” I ask, looking up from the legal papers.

“Fuck, no! I always use condoms, and you know it,” Creed growls, leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees. He looks at me intently, like he did when he loved me. His eyes glance down to look at my silver heart, then he looks back up, raising his right eyebrow furrowing his forehead.

I can’t believe that he said that! This meeting is a professional appointment and not a let’s catch update.

“I wouldn’t know,” I say, moving my hand to turn the page. Then I grab hold of the silver heart, a habit that I have that helps calm my soul.

“Fuck you don’t know, Heather! I need your help,” Creed says, clenching his fists.

The intense heat spreads up my face, and I glance at Carter, completely embarrassed.

Oh my god! He doesn’t know that we were together. I can’t believe that he said that!
