Get Over Me, page 10
After all, Sean had made what he wanted clear, but he hadn’t said he wanted it with him. And it wasn’t as if Knight himself had given him the option. Knight hadn’t even managed to talk to him at all.
He needed to talk to Don, too, because if Don didn’t want him to hit on his best friend, Knight had to understand that. It would hurt--it would hurt a lot--but his brother’s well-being and peace of mind certainly came before Rocky Knight’s own.
He was thinking about all those things as he tried to find a parking spot near the arrivals terminal. His car had diplomat plates, so he knew he could have parked anywhere, but it would have just called attention to himself.
He didn’t want to call any attention to his vehicle if he didn’t have to. He ended up parking on the top floor of the garage and practically sprinted to the lounge behind baggage claim.
His brother didn’t take too long, but Knight was used to being on presidential time, so it felt like getting out took forever. Don was barely able to hold onto his luggage, which seemed excessive for the amount of time he was going to spend at the mansion.
Knight stepped forward and grabbed his bag before greeting him. His little brother smiled at him. “Hey,” he said.
“Hey,” Knight replied, wrapping an arm around him. There was a moment when Don hesitated, but he ended up hugging him back and the two held each other for a minute.
“Thank you for picking me up,” he said.
“Of course,” Knight replied. “I didn’t know you were moving here, though.”
“A boy’s gotta have choices,” Don said quietly.
It made Knight laugh. These first few moments with his brother were always a little nerve-wracking. There was a lot of history between them and Rocky Knight knew that his little brother’s feelings toward him were complicated.
But before they took on any of that, he needed to ask Don something important.
He had rehearsed the question in his head on the drive there, but saying it when he was face-to-face with his brother felt like an impossible task.
Don seemed to sense that something was wrong, because he was staring at Knight. It wasn’t until they were in the parking lot and it seemed like all their small talk about the weather and the flight had ran out that Don finally shook his head and scoffed. “I don’t get it,” he said.
Knight glared at him. “What don’t you get?”
“I don’t get how you put your life on the line for your country every day,” he replied. “And you can be such a coward.”
“I’m not a coward,” Knight said between his teeth.
“Right,” Don replied. “And there’s nothing you’re putting off telling me or anything.”
Knight shook his head as he clicked on the keys to open the SUV. “Don’t do that,” he said. “I hate it when you do that.”
“And I hate being kept in suspense,” Don said. “Remember when we watched The Sixth Sense?”
Knight rolled his eyes, but he laughed. He did remember. He remembered how anxious and jittery Don had been from the beginning. Knight was pretty sure Don had spoiled the movie for him at one point, but he had done his best to block it out of his memory.
“Okay,” Don said. “So now that we’re on the same page, spit it out. What the fuck is going on?”
“It’s about Sean,” Knight said, then licked his lips.
He waited, but Don didn’t react. He didn’t say anything. When Knight opened the trunk to put Don’s luggage in it, he noticed that Don was still silent.
He closed down the trunk and turned to look at his brother. “You’re not going to ask?”
“I think I already have some idea,” Don replied.
Knight shook his head. “I don’t want to put you in an awkward position.”
“Too fucking late,” Don replied as he walked over to the passenger side. “You think I don’t see the stars in your eyes, too?”
Knight walked over to the driver side, opened the door and put the key in the ignition. “What do you mean ‘too’?”
“You would have to be an idiot not to be able to tell,” Don said. “Sean like-likes you and you like-like him.”
“Like-like him?” Knight echoed.
“I’m talking to you like a child because you’re both acting like children,” Don said. “Look, I told Sean the same thing I’m telling you. I don’t like it. I think you’re going to break his heart and I worry about him.”
“That’s not fair,” Knight replied quietly as he began to back out of the parking space.
“But it’s also none of my damn business,” he said. “And if you make each other happy, then I would hate to be the person standing in the way.”
Knight smirked. “You’re not the only thing in the way, kid,” he replied. “You’re just sort of there among a million other things.”
“Great,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to be special.”
Knight laughed, then what Don had said begun to sink in. “Wait,” he said. “You talked to Sean about this?”
“Yeah,” he said, then turned to look at him, a smile on his face. “You didn’t think I came here for you, did you?”
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Sean wasn’t sure what Knight wanted, but when he texted him to come out after he had put Ellie to bed, he expected another serious conversation about what had happened between them.
What he was not expecting was to find Knight leaning against the Escalade while Don stood next to him, a smile on his face.
“Oh my God,” he said as soon as he was in earshot of them. “You’re here!”
“I know!” Don replied.
“I didn’t know you were coming!”
“I know!”
“I can’t believe you lied to me!”
“I know!” Don exclaimed. “I’m sorry!”
Then they hugged. Sean hadn’t realized just how much he needed a hug from his best friend and if it hadn’t been for Rocky Knight being right there next to them, he might have cried on Don’s shoulder. Instead, he moved away as he tried to ignore the tears welling up in his eyes and grabbed Don’s hand. “Do you want to come in--”
“Yes,” he said. “But in a little while. I actually made reservations at Le Forge.”
“You did?” Sean and Knight asked at the same time.
“Something like a celebratory dinner,” Don replied. “We can come back and gossip all night long after that, if you want to.”
“Okay,” Sean said. “You mean you and me or--”
“No,” Don said. “All of us.”
Sean and Knight exchanged a look. Don wasn’t the type of person to invite his brother along on their expeditions, at least not if he could help it. He was clearly planning something, but Sean was starting to get excited about it.
Whatever Don had in mind, it had to be good. “Let’s go,” he said, getting in the car before he gave Knight the opportunity to back out. He sat in the back, aware that Don would be in the passenger seat and Knight would be driving them.
He had gotten into the car without hesitation, but now he worried about it. He didn’t know what he was going to say to Knight if it came to it and he had already told him that he was going to back out, that he wasn’t going to bring it up to his father, that he was going to do his best to put it behind him.
But his body had betrayed him and now all he wanted to do was be alone with his best friend and... the man he loved, he supposed.
Don was staring at him as he thought about it through. He reached his hand out and squeeze’s Sean own. Sean looked up at him. “Don’t worry,” Don mouthed at him. “I got you.”
“Thank you,” he mouthed back, his heart flipping in his chest. He had no idea what Don was talking about, but it did make him feel better.
They arrived at Le Forge pretty quickly after that and were seated promptly. It didn’t matter that they weren’t dressed for the occasion, everyone knew who Sean Connor was and they knew his guests were VIPs. When he was growing up, Sean had never loved all the attention, but when he was an adult, he finally understood all the perks.
The restaurant was beautiful, small but fancy. They ordered a bottle of white after the waiter had read off the menu and starters for everyone. Knight declined a drink when Don offered it, citing the fact that he was at work, which Don seemed to find absolutely hilarious.
It wasn’t until they were almost finishing their starters that Don cleared his throat. “Listen,” he said. “I’m actually super exhausted and I think I’m going to call it a night.”
Sean glared at him. “Seriously?”
“You try being on a plane all day and then trying to socialize with you two,” he said. “You can handle this without me, right?”
Sean and Knight glanced at each other for a second.
“Oh, c’mon,” Don said. “Just get through one dinner. It’s totally happenstance that the place is super romantic.”
“Jerk,” Sean muttered under his breath.
Don leaned into him. “Go with it,” he said. “I’m doing you a favor.”
Rocky Knight was staring at them, saying nothing. His gaze was darting between them both.
“Anyway,” Don said, with an exaggerated yawn. “I got this place in this hotel room tonight, but I think I’m going to stay with my buddy Kyle.”
“Kyle is in town?” Sean asked.
“Yeah, totally,” Don replied, furrowing his brow and glaring at him. “But I did manage to make a non-refundable reservation at The Hilton and it would be a shame if I lost it. Just saying.”
Sean shook his head, his mouth dropping open. “Don--”
“I gotta go,” Don said as he got up. “I don’t want to be late!”
“Don--” Rocky Knight said.
Don winked at both of them and then began to walk away. Knight and Sean exchanged a look for a second as he practically sprinted out of the restaurant.
Rocky Knight was the first one to laugh. Sean followed suit, though it wasn’t quite the belly laugh that Rocky had. He wasn’t as amused, he was a little bit scared.
He hadn’t planned anything, and even though they weren’t alone, he knew there was no way he could stay away from Special Agent Rocky Knight for too long.
When their gazes met after a little while, it was Knight who spoke first. “I would have preferred to ask you on our first date.”
Sean blinked. “This is a date?”
Knight looked at him for a long time. “If you want it to be,” he said.
Sean nodded. “I thought you wanted me to shut up and let you live your life,” he said.
Knight cocked his head, his eyes narrowing. “No,” he said. “I do want you to let me live my life, but I want to live my life with you.”
Sean stared at him. His heart was beating a million miles an hour and he thought he might faint. “What do you mean?”
“I don’t want to come on too strong,” Knight said. “But ever since you’ve been here, I’ve been watching you.”
“A little creepy,” Sean said with a smile. “But I’m flattered.”
“Watching people is my job,” Knight said, though he also cracked a smile. “But I don’t mean it in a creepy way. You’re just--you’re wonderful.”
“Wonderful,” Sean said, his cheeks burning.
“And I didn’t see it before,” he said. “But I do want to live my life. I want to live it with you.”
“What?” Sean replied, leaning back on the chair.
Knight set his gaze on Sean’s face. “I worked hard to get this life,” he said. “I worked hard to be where I am. But I’ve never been happy before, and Sean, it was you who made me see just how important being happy was. And if you think that it’s too much or--”
“Stop,” Sean said, holding his hand up. “Stop.”
“Okay...”
Sean looked at his face, at those gorgeous eyes, that beautiful nose, at the way his brows framed his features. “You know that if we do this,” he asked, “you’re putting everything on the line. Right?”
“I know,” he said. “And I want to. For you.”
Sean shook his head. “You could lose everything.”
Knight put his hand under Sean’s chin and tilted it up. “If I hadn’t told you how I felt,” he said. “I would have already lost everything.”
Sean smiled at him, his entire body feeling like it was melting. “Okay,” he said. “Let’s go.”
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
It had felt surreal to drive Sean Connor to a Hilton, but it was far more surreal to watch him kick off his shoes as he sat in the one bed in the room. Knight watched him from the door, his arms crossed over his chest, as he weighed his options.
His cock was already throbbing hard. The moment that they had checked in--that he had checked in, because he had done so and then Sean had followed behind him in sunglasses and a large hat in case anyone saw him--his heart had started beating fast in his chest and he felt like he might actually faint.
But Sean, fuck, he had followed him into the elevator and pressed the button to close it immediately after he had walked in. He had pressed his body against Knight’s own the moment they were alone, kissing him fully on the lips, giving himself completely to him.
Knight had kissed him back, forgetting about how many safety checks this hotel was supposed to have passed before Sean Connor stayed in it and letting Sean’s touch fill him with anticipation. He was aware of the cameras in the elevators, so when Sean had almost taken off his glasses, Knight had shaken his head.
Sean had walked out in front of him and Knight had watched as he walked briskly toward the room. His gaze darted around, trying to see if there was any danger, but it was hard to focus on his work and on trying to keep his erection hidden at the same time.
He sprinted behind Sean, feeling like a little kid. They couldn’t stay the night, they could only stay a few hours at the most. Staying out longer would raise more than a few eyebrows. His coworkers wouldn’t care--they might give him some shit for it--but the household staff was going to be up in arms about it and there was absolutely nothing that he himself could do.
He was already there, he thought as Sean set his gaze on him and smiled, those blue eyes of his glimmering. He might as well take advantage of it.
Sean took off his hat, then his hands went to the bottom of his shirt. “You know,” he said. “Maybe... I should just take everything off.”
“Who am I to stop you?” Knight heard himself say, then bit his lower lip.
Sean smiled at him. He grabbed his shirt and began to take it off, slowly, as Knight watched, his eyes glued to Sean’s body. He was so, so beautiful. He moved his gaze up and down Sean’s body as he stood up and began to undo the zipper on his jeans.
Their gazes met again for a second before he began to slide it down his legs. “Weirdest thing,” Sean said as Knight focused on those gorgeous, lean legs, and then on the outline of his cock in his briefs. “I notice I’m practically naked and you’re almost completely dressed.”
“Yes,” Knight said.
“You’re also all the way over there,” Sean said, a smile on his face. “And I feel like you should be here, kissing me.”
“I should,” Knight said. “I just know that the moment I touch you, I won’t be able to stop myself, and I want to savor this moment for as long as I can.”
“What moment?”
“The moment where I haven’t lost myself to you,” Knight replied. “Because I know it’ll happen the moment I put my hands on you.”
Sean’s smile widened into a grin. “I’m not seeing the downside,” he said quietly.
Knight walked over to where he was. Sean was sitting at the edge of the bed, so he tilted his head up to let Knight kiss him. They weren’t passionate kisses--not at first--they were soft and sweet and firm, firm and warm, as if they both wanted to reassure each other that they were both there, that they were both in there.
Then Sean wrapped his leg around the back of Knight’s legs and brought him close to his naked body. Knight looked down at his crotch, at the outline of his cock, at the tiny wet spot next to the head, then up at his stomach, his shoulders, then his face.
His hair was sticking to his forehead and his mouth was half-open. “Please,” Sean said as he bit down on his lower lip. “Please, I need you inside of me.”
Knight groaned. He grabbed the lube which was on the bed--Sean must have gotten it at one point, though Knight had been so focused on his body that he had no idea when--and put it on his hardened cock, under his pants.
“I want to see you. All of you,” he said. “But keep your shirt and tie on. It’s hot.”
Knight laughed quietly, then began to undo the buttons on his pants. He let them fall down his leg, then searched for his hardened cock in his boxers. He stroked himself at the thought of Sean in front of him, so pale and so beautiful, so very ready for him.
He could practically see Sean’s cock throbbing. He could see how much he wanted him, from the look on his face to the way that he was contorting his body, and from how his hips seemed to be moving up and down of their own accord.
“Fuck me,” Sean said as he looked up at Knight. “Please fuck me.”
Even if Knight wanted to wait any longer, he didn’t think he was going to be able to. He grabbed Sean’s hips and brought him down toward him, so his cock was perfectly aligned toward his ass. “I will,” he said in a whisper. “But you need to get rid of these.”
He stepped aside for a second as Sean slid his briefs down his legs and threw them off him by shaking his legs. Knight coated his finger in lube and slowly circled it around Sean’s hole. Sean moaned under his touch, despite how light it was, despite how careful Knight was, and when he was finally inside of him, Sean’s eyes opened and their gaze met for a second before Knight began to finger him.
He did so slowly, deliberately slowly, because he didn’t think he had ever been quite as turned on in his life as he was right then, watching this man moving his hips up and down his finger as he fucked himself with Knight’s hand, his mouth half-open, the groans and moans coming from him almost enough to get Knight to come right then and there.
