Sutton sipped her bottle of water as she thought over Jarvis’ words. Since Fiona’s outburst, her hurt had done nothing more than morph into an extreme anger toward Maddox. Even with the rough times and lies, there was some good, but now she was beginning to wonder if that good was all in her imagination. Had she truly, deeply loved Maddox, or was it more gratitude for helping her come into her own?

“Well, whatever I felt for Maddox is done. He made it very clear how he feels for me,” Sutton declared bitterly.

“I heard. Fiona was none to pleased that you were running your mouth.”

“Fuck Fiona and her club. I think the best thing that could have happened to me was getting kicked out of her den of iniquity. I needed to go, before I truly lost who I am.”

“Do you think you can stop stepping on the toes of those who still work there?” Jarvis teased, as he snagged Sutton’s bottle of water and took a swig.

“Sorry, I just mean for me it was a blessing in disguise. The fantasy can’t last forever.”

“One would think that, but I don’t think you’re being completely honest. If you could, I think you would go back in a heartbeat.”

“Outside of maybe the pay, I don’t think I would,” Sutton replied, snagging her drink back.

  “What about the sex?”

“What about it?” Sutton replied averting her eyes to the floor. She hated to admit it, but she did miss the sex. The constant array of experiences, then the total cutoff, was wrecking havoc on her body. She’d become very acquainted with her vibrator over the past month and a half.

“I can tell from your reaction that you miss it. Hell, I start to get withdrawal symptoms if I go three days without it. Why do you think Charlotte and I had our little arrangement? Once you get used to such easy puss…sex, it’s hard to go without it.”

“Well, I guess I’ll just have to deal. After all, I don’t have anyone to have an arrangement with.” Sutton looked to Jarvis, who was conveniently looking away. “Do I?” Sutton asked, pushing the limit on the uncomfortable conversation.

Jarvis turned his attention back to Sutton. “Are you asking what I think you’re asking?”

“No,” Sutton relented. “I…I mean I would hate to infringe on Charlotte’s territory. Plus, we’re friends, and friends don’t do that,” Sutton stammered as she hurried back into the living room. She regretted pushing the boundaries. She was well aware of the rumors that Jarvis liked her, yet she couldn’t help pushing the limit. There was something thrilling about being wanted, and being the ever-curious cat she was, she always had to take the chance.

Jarvis took a seat on the couch next to Sutton. “Charlotte and I haven’t had sex in months.” Jarvis met Sutton’s eyes squarely, fully accepting her challenge.

“Oh…well, I know she’s been busy with some new guy. He’s the one taking her to Aspen,” Sutton replied nervously.

“I stopped sleeping with her. It’s not because she stopped offering,” Jarvis said, his eyes burning into Sutton’s nervous gaze. “If you want to ask, then ask, Sutton.”

Sutton giggled nervously, “I’m not asking anything. You’re so serious. I was just teasing.”

“Teasing?” Jarvis asked, not fully convinced.

“Jarvis, come on. Do you really think I would ask you to…no, it was just a joke,” Sutton forced a laugh as she looked away from Jarvis’ piercing eyes.

Jarvis glanced at his watch. “I better get going, joker,” Jarvis said with chuckle, as he rose from his seat.

Sutton walked Jarvis to the door. “Have fun at The Woods.”

“I doubt it, but I’ll try,” Jarvis said, as he stood in the doorway staring at an anxious Sutton.

Sutton leaned in to give Jarvis a kiss on the cheek, but was alarmed when she was met with his lips instead. She lingered in the kiss, unsure if it was a good idea, but unwilling to let go of the sweet moment. Fire built inside her as Jarvis pressed his body close to hers. Sutton wrapped her hand around the back of his head, pushing his lips deeper into hers. The kiss was electric, making her body pulsate with every second.

Jarvis pulled away, leaving a stunned Sutton trapped in the moment. “If, for some reason, you weren’t joking,” Jarvis said, in a deep sexy hum, before placing a soft kiss on Sutton’s lips, “then, yes.”

“Yes, what?” Sutton asked, the words catching in her throat.

Jarvis smirked, as he looked at his flustered friend. “Just…yes,” he said, as he strolled out the door.

  ***

Sutton couldn’t get Jarvis’ little tease out of her head. The possibilities of their lovemaking found a way to flirt in and out of her mind for the rest of the evening. This did nothing but make her horniness intensify with every dirty thought that rushed through her brain.

I will not act on these silly thoughts, Sutton concluded, as she tried her best to fall asleep. There was no use: the door was open, and all she could think about was Jarvis.

Jarvis before the kiss was nothing more than a friend. He was her kindred spirit in The Woods. He was the one who understood that there was more to life outside of the kinky sex and mystery. Jarvis was the only person she trusted with her secrets, and the only person she felt she could truly relate to. She knew that he liked her, but had assumed it was nothing more than sexual. In that sense, she liked him, too. There was no doubting that Jarvis was an amazing male specimen. He was one of few men who made her stop cold with just his sexual presence.

Then there was the fact that their sex seemed almost like a dance. As if her body was completely in tune with his every want and move. Even though the only time they’d ever done it was to impress an audience, it was still amazing. Sutton let the memory of Jarvis’ hands on her body run through her mind. She could only imagine what it would be like without the bet, and without the audience.

Sutton pushed the thoughts out of her mind. The last thing she needed was to ruin another relationship. All she had was Jarvis and Charlotte, and sleeping with friends was a quick way to lose them. Not to mention that after the Maddox disaster Sutton was starting to wonder if Fiona and Charlotte were right: was love really not worth the effort? After Jarvis’ speech on being in love, she knew it was what he secretly wanted. How could he not want to be in love one day, Sutton thought, as she gave up on falling asleep and trailed into the kitchen for a snack.

Sutton knew that Jarvis’ life in The Woods was on countdown. The boy had all the potential in the world. He was going to go to law school, and then become a successful lawyer. He deserved to have a woman who could say without a shadow of a doubt that she loved him. Jarvis wanted to put his days as a gigolo behind him and have the American dream. Sutton wanted the same thing, she just wasn’t too sure that at this point in her life she wanted the dream right then, not to mention knowing whether she wanted to live the dream with Jarvis.

Jarvis’ words flashed through Sutton’s mind as she nibbled on her muffin. Don’t you miss The Woods? Sutton hated to admit that she did. For months The Woods had been nothing but a playground of sex and exploration. Every night spent there was filled with fun and excitement. Sutton’s new life was nothing more than a mix of repetitious errands for Tavia, class, and evenings spent much like this one, alone with nothing to do. She missed the excitement The Woods offered. She missed her clients, and the different ways she found to explore her sexuality.

Now that she was completely free and coming into her own, she didn’t want a relationship, but the feeling she’d had every time she walked through the door of The Woods. The last thing she wanted was to have a repeat of her relationship with Maddox where he wanted more than she was willing to give. She knew Jarvis was right. She didn’t truly love Maddox, but rather, the woman he helped her realize she could be. Sutton took in a deep breath at the thought. She now longed for the adventure that months earlier she fought so hard against.

As Sutton became lost in her thoughts of the life she no longer had, she was brought back to reality by the doorbell. She glanced at the clock on the wall. It was one in the morning. Who could this be, Sutton wondered, as she strolled to the door.

Sutton opened the door and felt her body go numb. “What are you doing here?” she asked anxiously.

“Didn’t I tell you, yes?” Jarvis said, as he pulled Sutton into his arms. “Or did you think I was just joking?” he muttered against her parted lips.

Sutton fell into Jarvis’ fevered kiss, as he lifted her into his arms. She wrapped her legs tightly around his waist and claimed his mouth with a barrage of kisses. Her mind gave her no time to process the fact that she was about to sleep with one of her best friends…again. Nothing she’d concluded earlier about being with Jarvis seemed to matter, as he carried her to the bedroom and laid her on the bed. In one quick motion Sutton’s nightgown was flung in a heap on the floor, with Jarvis’ clothes quickly joining it.

Jarvis sheathed his throbbing cock, then stood over Sutton’s waiting body. He slightly bit his lip, as he trailed his fingers from her breast to her hot sex. “I’ve been waiting for this for so long,” Jarvis murmured softly.

Sutton grabbed his arm, pulling him to the bed. She quickly mounted him hard, feeling her body explode from the familiar but recently absent sensation. “What are we doing?” Sutton moaned, as she began to ride him hard. “This is wrong.”

Jarvis rolled Sutton onto the bed. Swiftly, he lifted her leg over his shoulder and drove into her hard and deep. “Probably, but I’ll be damned if this shit don’t feel worth it.”

Sutton pulled Jarvis into her kiss. “It sure does, J-baby” Sutton teased.

Jarvis pulled out of Sutton and flipped her over. Sutton quickly came to her knees and was filled with Jarvis’ powerful length. Jarvis laid a hard slap to Sutton’s ass.

“After tonight…” Jarvis panted, as he drove into her harder, “you’ll be able to call me that.” He leaned in and began to finger Sutton swollen nub. “See at the club I was being kind. Now…” Jarvis laid another hard slap to Sutton’s ass. “Now I have a point to make.”

“What point is that?” Sutton moaned, as she pulled herself in closer to Jarvis’ body.

“That when you’ve truly been fucked by me, then you’ll understand that ‘J’ and ‘oh, baby’ is usually all that a girl can mutter.”

Jarvis pulled Sutton’s chin up and claimed her mouth. His lips pressed firmly against hers, taking her breath away. His skillful hands teased her tip, as he moved into her, deeper with each stroke. Sutton took each rapid blow of his impressive length, widening her legs to take him in deeper. Her mind was a buzz, as her body was lit on fire by Jarvis’ superior skill.

Jarvis threw Sutton to the bed, and in long, pleasure-filled strokes brought her closer to a great release. He gazed down at Sutton as she writhed beneath him. A smile crept to his face. This was something he’d wanted all night. This was something he’d wanted for months. He placed kisses on her neck, as he moved faster into her tightness. Sutton dug her nails into his back, feeling herself overwhelmed with the intense feelings of passion.

“Come for me, baby, let it out,” Jarvis encouraged, as he gave Sutton a few final deadly blows.

In a great burst of pleasure, Sutton gripped onto Jarvis’ body, “Oh, J…oh, baby, yes!” Sutton screamed, as she fell into the bed.

Jarvis rolled to the bed as Sutton pulled her weak body onto his. She fought for desperate breaths of air, as her body reeled in pleasure. Jarvis ran his finger down Sutton’s sweaty body, placing small kisses on her shoulders. Sutton wasn’t sure what to say. The intensity was beginning to dissipate, and the reality of the situation was becoming clear.

Sutton looked up at Jarvis, “What now?”

Jarvis smiled at Sutton and pushed a few stray sweaty hairs behind her ears. “Well…you take a good ten minute break. You enjoy every second of it.” Jarvis rolled Sutton onto the bed, as he pressed his lips against hers. He looked down at his lover and friend. “Because after those ten minutes, I’m going to write my name all over this pussy. We’ll figure the rest out later.”

Sutton wrapped her arms around Jarvis’ neck and brought him in to her kiss. She didn’t know why she didn’t question him further. She didn’t know why she didn’t pull away from his kiss the minute he walked into her apartment. After all, they were friends, and even with all her past lies she couldn’t lie her way into feeling something for Jarvis other than a deep lust and friendship. Yet here she was, about to start round two…no, three of a not-so-smart choice.

Sex is interchangeable and emotionless, Sutton thought as she fell into Jarvis’ embrace. No one who’d been a part of The Woods saw any real merit on the act of love, let alone relationships. This was something Sutton hoped Jarvis was thinking, too: that sleeping with a friend was commonplace, and meant nothing more than a release. She hoped he was looking at their sex as nothing more than an arrangement, much like the one he had with Charlotte. Sutton let the thoughts run through her head. Last time she’d let love enter her mind, she was burned. Maybe this was the best way. What was the point of waiting for love when love probably wasn’t coming? She just hoped that Jarvis felt the same.

“Jarvis,” Sutton whispered softly against his lips.

Jarvis stopped his barrage of kisses, as he looked down at Sutton. “What’s up?”

“I think my ten minutes are up. Get your pen, baby.” Sutton let out a giggle as Jarvis buried his face in her neck. It’s just sex, Sutton reminded herself, as her back arched off the bed.

  Chapter Twenty-three

Sutton ran her spatula through the eggs. The one contribution she did make to Charlotte’s house was buying groceries. However, her kind gesture was never shown any appreciation given the fact Charlotte never ate at home. Most of the time Charlotte only came home to sleep and change clothes—that was, if she came home at all. Sutton sprinkled the eggs with a little pepper and turned off the burner. It had been a long time since she’d cooked, and even longer since she’d cooked for a man.

The thought of a sleeping Jarvis brought a smile to Sutton’s face. After their night of wild sex, they’d both collapsed from satisfying exhaustion. When she woke that morning, the first thing she could think to do was cook. She didn’t know why she was playing good southern housewife to a man who she only saw as a friend, but it just felt natural. Sutton cut some grapefruit and began to set the table.

The thought of her friend ran through her head. Jarvis was a friend. He was the guy who for months was her rock, and sometimes the voice of reason. Now what was he? He wasn’t her man. She didn’t want a man, and wasn’t really sure that if she did want one, Jarvis was the man she wanted. He was a great guy, but the thought of a rocky relationship pulling him out of her life wasn’t something she wanted to risk. Sutton took a seat and sipped her coffee. She couldn’t help but feel she’d made a huge mistake.

“Good morning.” Jarvis’ groggy voice broke through Sutton’s thoughts, as he made his way to the table. “You made all of this for me?”

Sutton looked up from her coffee cup and felt her breath hitch in her throat. Standing before her was a half-naked Jarvis. His tight black boxer briefs hung below his chiseled stomach. Sutton’s eyes ran slowly up his body before meeting his eyes. “Yeah. Well, I was hungry, and I thought you might be, too. Sit, enjoy.”

Jarvis plopped down in the chair across from Sutton. “I haven’t had a home-cooked breakfast in a long time.”

“You mean your ladies don’t make you bacon and eggs?” Sutton teased, as she sipped her coffee.

“Yeah, right,” Jarvis huffed. “Shall I say grace?”

Sutton looked down at Jarvis’ extended hand. She couldn’t help being taken aback. Jarvis was far from your run-of-the-mill altar boy. Sutton gave him a shy smile, placed her hand into his, and bowed her head. Jarvis said a quick prayer and dove into his plate of food.

“You surprise me, J,” Sutton said, as she took a bite of her toast. “Sometimes I think I have you figured out, and then you do stuff like that.”

  “Stuff like what?”

“Prayer. I think I have you understood, and then you break out the sweet boy on me. If I didn’t really know you, I would think you were the all-American boy.”

“The same can be said about you. I like to think that I’m a man with many dimensions,” Jarvis joked, as he shoved a forkful of eggs into his mouth.

“I just think that there’s a lot about you I still don’t know.”

“I’m not secretive, Sut. If you wanna know something just ask.”

Sutton sat up straight, happy to have a moment of honesty. “There is something I’d like to know.”

“What’s that?” Jarvis asked, as he added cream to his coffee.
