Elvene, a solo Space Corps agent, is on areconnaissance mission when she is ambushedby space marauders: militaristic robotic drones,designed to hunt and kill. She escapes by taking refuge on an unchartedplanet, where she discovers the Kiri, an unknowntribe living a subsistence life on an oceanarchipelago. They have no knowledge of her worldnor she of theirs; but they readily adopt her, givingher the title of Ocean Woman. Elvene temporarily forgets the tribulations of herown world. However, her past catches up with herand endangers the very people who have given hersanctuary. The Kiri not only challenge Elvene’s assumptionsabout humanity, but provide a friendship and lovethat leads her to consider the ultimate sacrifice.
