At 24, Melanie thinks she knows who she wants. Until the accident, she’d experienced passion with Sam and then deep grief after his death. But soon after meeting Alex, she begins to crave him even more than a safe life with Martin.. The flight home over the Cascade Mountains in the small Cessna plane starts out fairly routine except for the hunky pilot, who makes Melanie’s heart skip a beat or two every time he looks at her with his warm chocolate eyes. Then the engine fails and Melanie and Alex are thrown together in a fight for survival that begins an internal struggle as well. Although she does feel safe in his arms, she feels afraid outside of them. And that’s because the things that Alex likes to do don’t seem safe to Melanie. She can’t bear the thought of losing another man she loves, but one way or another it looks like she just might.
