The Spell Sword

The Spell Sword

Marion Zimmer Bradley

Fantasy / Science Fiction / Gay and Lesbian

Although Darkover was a world inhabited by humans as well as semi-humans, it was primarily forbidden ground to the Terran traders. Most of the planet's wild terrain was unexplored...and many of its peoples seclusive and secretive. But for Andrew Carr there was an attration he could not evade. Darkover drew him, Darkover haunted him--and when his mapping plane crashed in unknown heights, Darkover prepared to destroy him. Until the planet's magic asserted itself--and his destiny began to unfold along lines predicted only by phantoms and wonder workers of the kind Terran science could never acknowledge. THE SPELL SWORD is a Darkover novel to stand with the great ones of the series.

Mythangelus

Mythangelus

Storm Constantine

Science Fiction & Fantasy / Horror / Gay and Lesbian

Angels dark and light have inspired Storm Constantine throughout her writing life. In Mythangelus, all of her stories with an angelic theme, or inspired by angel mythos, are collected for the first time. This includes two Wraeththu stories, 'By the River of If Only' and 'Paragenesis' - as the Wraeththu novels were originally inspired by magical angelic legends. Included too are 'Fireborn', and 'The Feet, They Dance', pieces that were written while Storm was working on her Grigori trilogy, which are tales inspired by the myths of the Fallen Angels and the Nephilim. 'A Change of Season' is the short story that eventually became the opening chapters of 'Stalking Tender Prey', the first in the Grigori series, and 'Heir to a Tendency' features the lead Grigori character of Peverel Othman, years before his feet led him to Little Moor and the events of the first novel. From the fairy tale lore of 'Spinning for Gold' and 'Living with the Angel' to the more science fiction oriented 'The Green Calling', and the dark urban fantasy of 'Return to Gehenna', these stories are among the most sumptuous and vivid from the imagination of the celebrated Shadow Priestess of Fantasy.

Beast, Part Three

Beast, Part Three

Ella James

Romance / Young Adult / Gay and Lesbian

Return to La Rosa Prison as Annabelle tries to save Beast from his grizzly fate. Her tongue and hands are doing most of the saving. Okay, not really. There's suspense and a healthy dose of smut, too. You know that's how you like it... In all seriousness, this is an adult book that deals with a variety of intense and mature topics. It's also a novella. If you dislike reading stories in installments, or are a prude, a whiner, or other unsavory sort of character, this may not be a good read for you. Part 3 is on sale for 99 cents for the first 12 hours only. Tell your friends! Part Four is coming September 22. I expect it to be the final installment in the Beast serials. *Part one is FREE, so go grab it if you haven't started this series.

A Meeting by the River

Christopher Isherwood

Fiction / Gay and Lesbian / Religion

Two English brothers meet, after a long separation, in India. Oliver, the idealistic younger brother, prepares to take his final vows as a Hindu monk. Patrick, a successful publisher with a wife and children in London and a male lover in California, has publicly admired his brother's convictions while privately criticizing his choices. First published in 1967, A Meeting by the River delicately depicts the complexity of sibling relationships -- the resentment and competitiveness as well as the love and respect. Ultimately, the brothers' exposure to each other's differences deepens their awareness of themselves. In A Meeting by the River, Christopher Isherwood dramatizes the conflict between sexuality and spirituality that inspired his late writings.

El: The Time Traveler

El: The Time Traveler

Nk Layne

Gay and Lesbian / Paranormal / Horror

What happens when an anxious girl stumbles into a time machine? Will she overcome her panic disorder as she grapples with the implications of going back in time and saving her recently deceased Aunt? Or will her mental illness prevail?I rolled back my neck in a feeble attempt to take it all in, but the shimmering metallic tower was too tall to perceive. “What are you?” This -- this was like nothing I ever seen before, and I was more than familiar with these trails. These hikes were like a Xanax for me. After every single panic attack, since high school, I have explored this forest, which has added up to more non-work/school time in the forest than everywhere else. Panic attacks were the way I related to world. And yet, despite all this woodsy exposure, up until that day, my most majestic woodland spotting was a mother helping a newborn deer take its first steps, which was pretty significant for me. But this -- this was something else. Something that kept me tongue tied and stupid. Standing next to it, I was nothing more than a speck of dust. I was just a girl, my singularity emphasized by nineteen years of timid experiences. I had nothing in my life to prepare myself for something unworldly. Or at least it seemed unworldly with it’s one, majestic aesthetic. Two, sudden appearance. And three, my fantastical impressionability. I mean, I walked down these woods just the other day and there was nothing here but forest. My black hair wrapped around my neck like a noose. I kept scratching the back of my scalp, nervous tic, as I followed the sun’s beaming rays, pointing towards a metallic door. I was small, frail even, scared and stupid, stupid, stupid. For no rational reason at all I needed to know what was inside. Pushing the metal door open with my bare hands, I yelped and jerked my hand away. “Fuck!”The radiating burn centered around my palm and went up my arm. I groaned once and then groaned again. The burn was painful but what hurt even more was the pressing reality. I really hoped that I was dreaming, but that hurt too much to be a dream. I choked on my breath as I looked up, into the sunny sky. I wanted to run back to my parent's house; I wanted to snuggle in my space where everything was calm and quiet. But, as I remembered what the next day will bring, I felt a contradictory pull towards the tower. For my family, the following day, was a day of mourning. First, my Aunt died a sudden death, defiling my home. Then, this out-of-place tower tripped up my woodsy sanctuary. Without the safety of what I knew, I went with what I wanted to know. I figured that walking right into my panic was a new self-destruction, and that gave me a little joy. El -- myself -- has been such a nuisance lately. The panic attack that brought on this hike was brought on by my first year of college. Like clockwork, it ended without me making one friend. El’s timidity is the thorn of my existence. I figured I could give her some payback and actually learn something. For that brief moment I thought I could handle knowledge. I said a little prayer, covered my palms with my sleeves, and opened the door.

Mytholumina

Storm Constantine

Science Fiction & Fantasy / Horror / Gay and Lesbian

The third in Immanion Press's series of Storm Constantine's short story collections, Mytholumina contains the majority of the author's science fiction stories that have appeared in anthologies and magazines. There are rare pieces to be found here, such as 'So What's Forever', 'The Vitreous Suzerain' and 'God Be With You' that were written for short-lived or little known genre magazines that Storm was keen to support. Included also are previously unpublished pieces, such as 'The Germ of Life' and 'Time Beginning at Break of Day'. Whether they take you to a slightly-skewed version of our own reality or out among the far flung stars, these stories are peopled by the rogues, seducers and enigmas that are a hallmark of Ms Constantine's work.
