During the years in which Jonathan Hawaii Napela served as a missionary for the LDS church, he was instrumental in teaching and baptizing hundreds of his fellow Hawaiian brothers and sisters. It can be conjectured that thousands of righteous Hawaiian Saints are a product of this legacy.

In May of 2010, the Catholic Church presented a certificate to the LDS Polynesian Cultural Center at Laie, Oahu, honoring Jonathan Hawaii Napela as a friend and coworker with Father Damien de Veuster.

A statue of Jonathan Napela and George Q. Cannon stands on the grounds of the BYU–Hawaii campus. It depicts the two friends holding high the Hawaiian Book of Mormon—a joined testimony of their love for the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Hawaiian people.
