Nothing Is Left, page 5
part #11 of Forever and Ever Series
My tip pressed against her, and just the simple touch reminded me how good it was with her. The chemistry was volatile and explosive. I took a deep breath before I inserted myself completely.
Her hands gripped my arms and a loud moan escaped her lips. It was like the first time we made love. It was so good neither one of us could understand it. Once I was sheathed, I stilled and breathed hard. I couldn’t believe how good it felt. My arms shook and my body automatically tensed. “Skye…” A loud moan escaped my lips.
She widened her legs because she was tighter than usual, giving me more space. That was a turn-on in itself. She hadn’t been with anyone but me in so long. And I loved the way her body clenched tightly around me.
I knew I wasn’t going to last long. Having the love of my life underneath me like this made my body betray me. I couldn’t control myself like I normally could. I just hoped I could please her in time.
Her hands moved to my ass and she pulled me into her, moaning as she did it.
That wasn’t helping.
She pulled me harder into her, her breathing becoming rugged and deep. She started to tense, tightening up. I’d been with her enough times to know when she was there.
“Come for me.”
Her nails into my back and she moaned louder than she ever had. She tried to breathe but couldn’t catch her breath. Her head rolled back and she writhed, like she couldn’t contain everything she was feeling. She clenched tightly around me, with more force than ever before. We’d only begun and she was already reached her pinnacle. I think it was more of a testament to how much she missed me rather than my skills as a lover.
When her moment passed, she clung to me and looked into my eyes. “Come inside me.”
Sexier words I’d never heard her say. Like my body responded to her command, I tensed and released inside her. It was the strongest orgasm I ever had, and it seemed to stretch on forever.
She pulled me further inside her, as much as her body would allow.
I emptied inside her while I looked into her eyes.
She looked back at me, the longing evident.
Somehow, inexplicably, it was like the past year hadn’t happened. The blissful comfort of our relationship had returned. The scars on my soul had disappeared. They didn’t heal, because the inflictions were never there to begin with. All the resentment and pain I felt toward her was gone. All I felt was joy.
I pulled out of her then cuddled with her, pulling her as close to me as my body would allow. We shared one pillow and faced each other, still out of breath. Her eyes were wide while she took me in, examining every feature of my face like she’d never seen it before.
I returned her look, memorizing her beautiful face. The curve of her lips drove me wild, and the tiny freckle in the corner of her mouth was endearing. It was her only imperfection, the only clue that she was human. My hand moved through her hair, feeling her soft strands just like I used to. She was the most beautiful thing on this earth and now she was mine. I’d never let her go, and I wouldn’t let her push me away again. She and I deserved our forever together.
And we were going to get it.
***
The weekend was full of lovemaking. I took her in every position imaginable, as many times as my body would allow. The sight of her naked body was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen. She was all curves and valleys. My mouth worshipped her chest, my favorite feature, and I tasted her more times than I could count.
Surprisingly, we didn’t talk much. For being apart from each other for so long, neither one of us really had anything to say. We stayed in her room most of the time, lying in bed and enjoying each other. When she slept, I stared at her. And when my eyes fluttered open in the morning, I caught her staring at me. I didn’t have any clothes or toiletries, but I survived.
“I need food,” I whispered into her neck.
“I don’t have any groceries—that aren’t expired.”
“Want to order a pizza?” I asked. “Or is that a stupid question?”
She smirked then closed her eyes.
I placed the order on my phone then tossed it aside. It landed on the ground but I didn’t care. There wasn’t a person in the world I wanted to talk to. My attention turned back to Skye and I cuddled close with her, soaking up her warmth and touch.
A knock on the door made me groan. “Expecting company?”
“Maybe it’s the pizza guy,” she said with a tired sigh. She’d been so relaxed and carefree since we got back together. It was like it was the first time she truly felt at peace. The usual rigidness I saw her possess was gone.
“I find that unlikely.” I got out of bed.
“Where are you going?” she demanded, a note of panic in her voice.
“I’m just going to answer the door. I’ll be right back.” I pulled on my jeans.
“Oh.” She seemed sad. “Hurry, okay?”
“Okay, baby.” I liked how needy she was.
I headed into the living room then looked through the peephole. Slade was on the other side.
“What are you doing here?” I demanded. “You think I want to hang out right now?”
“First of all, chill out.” He tossed a bag at me. “Secondly, here’s clothes, bathroom stuff, and your phone charger. I just assumed you needed supplies since you…probably haven’t gone anywhere.”
I held the bag in my hands then smiled at him. “Sorry.”
“You should be, asshole. Now go have fun.”
“Thanks for bringing this by.”
“You know I got your back.” He waved then walked off.
I smiled as I closed the door. Then I returned to the bedroom.
“Who was it?” Skye asked. She sat up, her hair falling around her shoulder like she was a model.
“Slade.”
“Slade?” she asked. “What did he want?”
“He brought me clothes and stuff.”
“Oh.” Affection came into her eyes. “That was sweet of him.”
“Yeah…” I remembered fetching him everything he needed when Trinity was in the hospital. He never asked for anything, but I knew he needed supplies. He had my back just like I had his, even if it was in a different context.
“Now get back to bed,” she demanded.
“Bossy, much?” I pulled off my jeans then sat at the edge of the bed.
She gripped me by the arm and dragged me back into bed. “Now.”
“Yes, Ms. Preston.”
“Hey.” She smacked my arm. “It’s baby. Get it right.”
“My apologies.” I pulled her into my chest and snuggled with her.
“You’re forgiven.” She took a deep breath then melted into me.
A knock on the door sounded again. “That must be the pizza guy.”
She growled angrily. “If I weren’t hungry…”
“Well, you are,” I said. “And you need to eat more.”
“Hey, I’m skinny for the first time in my life. It’s nice.”
“I don’t like skinny.” I looked into her eyes. “I like you just the way you are.”
“Well, if I had to eat more it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world…”
Chapter Seven
Skye
“This is probably a little late, but are you still on the pill?” Cayson’s chest dripped with water from the shower. His hair was messy from the shampoo, and he looked like a Greek god standing under the showerhead. “Not that I care,” he said. “We’re going to have kids anyway.”
“I am,” I answered.
“Okay.” He squirted shampoo into my hair then massaged my scalp. He looked down at me, affection in his eyes. Then his hands drifted to my chest, where they usually drifted. He cupped my tits and massaged them in a gentle way. He had a wicked gleam in his eyes, like he was loving every second of it and not ashamed to admit it.
I squirted shampoo into my hand and did something similar to his cock. We already made love in the shower, but we seemed to be revved up at all times. It was the first time we bathed all weekend. We were both getting stinky so we had to do something. The sheets and bedding were in the wash because that was trashed too.
“You’re the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen,” Cayson said while he looked at my chest, not my eyes.
“Things, you mean?”
He smirked then looked into my eyes. “All of you as a single entity.” He grabbed the soap then started to lather it into the skin of my shoulders and arms.
He hadn’t pulled away from me like he promised. He didn’t bring up the past or why we broke up in the first place. It was like ancient history, something we hardly remembered at all. I was relieved that was behind us. For a long moment, I thought Cayson and I would never be together again.
I’d been off the map all weekend. My phone was…where was my phone? And I didn’t even contact Trinity. I’m sure she was eager to hear all the details of our sensual weekend. And I knew she wanted to know how we got back together. That would have to wait for another time. If I weren’t adamant about being a good employee for my father, I would call in sick—all week.
I moved my hands to the rest of his body, making sure he was clean. His body was different than I remembered it. It was thicker and harder. His body had tightened, and the small amounts of fat he had were gone. I enjoyed every inch of his physique, and I loved feeling his broad chest against mine when we made love.
“What?” he asked.
“You’re just hot.”
“Just hot?” he asked with a laugh.
“Yeah.” My hands moved down his chest. “I can’t believe I forgot.”
“Me neither. I’ve never forgotten how sexy you are.” Both of his hands gripped my ass tightly.
“Oh really?”
“Oh yeah.” He moved under the water and rinsed off.
“Did you ever…you know?”
He ran his fingers through his hair as he washed the shampoo out. “You know what?” He stepped away and gave me room to rinse.
“Touch yourself and think about me…” I was a little embarrassed to ask.
His eyes were guarded for a moment, like he didn’t want to answer. “You know those pictures you sent me a long time ago—the dirty ones?”
“Yeah…”
“I’d look at those.”
“So, that’s a yes?”
“Yep.” He watched my face, seeing if I was offended or not. “Why?”
“I was just curious…”
“You were the only person I thought about, Skye.”
That made me sad but happy at the same time.
“What about you?” he asked.
I nodded then averted my gaze in guilt.
“Really?” A smile was on his lips.
“So?”
He moved me against the wall. “And what would you think about?”
“I didn’t ask you for details,” I argued.
“But I gave them to you. Now answer me.”
I shrugged. “You did stuff you used to do.”
“Like what?” he pressed.
“Go down on me…take me from behind…stuff like that.”
“Ooh…dirty stuff.”
My cheeks were bright red.
“Don’t be embarrassed. That’s hot. I didn’t know you masturbated.”
“Neither did I. I just started after you were gone.”
“I wouldn’t mind watching sometime.”
“Now look who’s dirty.” I gave him a pointed stare then turned off the water.
“I never said I was a saint.”
“You act like one.”
“Last time I checked, I had sex with you all weekend out of wedlock, and I didn’t even know if you were on the pill. I’d say I’m definitely not a saint.”
“I guess I like bad boys.”
He laughed. “I’m definitely not a bad boy either.”
“That’s right. You’re perfect.”
His eyes softened when he looked at me.
I grabbed a towel and dried off then handed him one. “The sheets will be dry. Now we can go back to bed.”
“Right to the point, huh?”
“So?”
“I’ll take you from behind the way you like.”
“Okay,” I said enthusiastically. I headed into my room and pulled on my sweats and a t-shirt. Cayson stayed in the bathroom and finished brushing his teeth and styling his hair.
I headed to the refrigerator because I was hungry, like usual. I hardly had food stocked because I hadn’t eaten much lately. And the food I did have was expired. When I looked at the bottom shelf, a lone rotten tomato sat there. I couldn’t even recall buying tomatoes. Then I opened the pantry and found an opened bag of chips. When I tried them, the chips were stale. I tossed it in the garbage and gave up. I’d just have to go to the grocery store later.
A knock on the door redirected my thoughts. Who would be visiting me right now? My immediate assumption was Ward. Perhaps he had a few final words to say. I felt guilty for what happened between us. When I saw him the next day, I wanted to apologize. I looked through the peephole and saw my dad on the other side.
He never randomly dropped by like this. If he came over, he called first. And he hardly did that. We communicated mostly through texting.
I opened the door. “Dad? What are you doing here?”
He immediately relaxed once he saw me. “I’ve been trying to get a hold of you since Friday. You haven’t been answering your phone.”
“Oh.” I didn’t even know where it was.
“Is everything okay?” he asked.
“Yeah, everything is fine. I’ve just been busy. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“It’s okay,” he said. “I’m just glad you’re okay. Your mother was worried, and she asked me to—”
Cayson entered the living room in just his boxers. “Baby, have you—uh hi, Sean.”
I covered my face because I was so mortified.
Cayson quickly darted back into the hallway.
A full minute of silence passed.
Dad was equally awkward. “Uh…I’ll let you go. Sorry to barge in…um…bye.” He turned around and walked away, rubbing the back of his neck. Then he realized he went the wrong way so he turned and headed the opposite direction. “Elevators are over here….”
I closed the door then leaned against it, never so humiliated in my life. I tried to block it out because it was so uncomfortable. I kept my face covered, like if I couldn’t see then it never happened.
I finally left the door then entered my bedroom.
Cayson was sitting at the edge of the bed, his eyes closed. “Thanks for the heads up, baby.”
“I thought you heard the door.”
“I was in the bathroom!”
I sat next to him and covered my face. “That is not how I wanted my father to know we were back together.”
He was quiet for a moment then he started to laugh. “Well, it could have been worse.”
“Worse?” I asked incredulously. “Now there’s no doubt that we have sex.”
“What?” he said. “You think he thought you were a virgin?”
“I doubt he thought about it at all!”
“He’s not stupid, Skye. He knows you’re a grown woman.”
“This is still really, really awkward. I have to see him at work tomorrow.”
“Trust me, he’ll be just as uncomfortable as you.”
“Aren’t you mortified?” I demanded.
He shrugged. “I mean, it’s not like I’m some random guy that’s trying to be with you. I already have his approval. He knows I love you and will take care of you.”
I covered my face again. “I’ll never get the image out of my mind…”
He rubbed my back. “Baby, it’ll be fine. One day, this will be a funny story.”
“Well, right now it isn’t.”
“When you see him tomorrow, clear the air. That way it’s not the white elephant in the room.”
“I’m not having a conversation with him about…this.”
“Okay, fine. Now stop thinking about it.”
I looked out the window and started to count the windows of the neighboring buildings.
“So…” He nudged me in the side. “You wanna?”
“God, no!” I smacked his arm and started counting again.
“What are you doing?”
“Counting.”
“What?” he asked.
“The windows.”
“Why?”
“It helps distract my thoughts when I’m sad or upset.”
He watched me for a moment before he averted his gaze. “You do this often?”
“For the past year I have,” I said. “The Macy’s building has two hundred and forty windows. The Chrysler building has four hundred and forty-four. And the Virgin Records building has one hundred and eighty.”
He nodded his head slowly. “I see…”
I started to count again.
He moved his hand to my thigh. “I’m sorry, Skye.” His voice carried his sadness.
I turned to him. “I’m sorry too.”

When I got to work the next morning, I was filled with nerves. It would be awkward with my father, and it would be awkward with Ward. It would definitely be a long day.
I chose to be a coward and didn’t stop by my father’s office like I usually did. I went straight to my office and sat at my desk. I got a coffee on the way so I had something to keep me calm. Then I went to work like everything was normal.
“Good morning, darling.” Ward stepped inside with a folder in his hand. He had a smile on his face and his eyes were bright. “It’s another beautiful day in the city.”
I wasn’t sure how I expected him to be, but I didn’t expect him to be so cheerful. It was either a façade or he bounced back quickly. “Good morning, Ward.”
He sat in the chair facing my desk. “How are things with you?”
“Good… You?”
“Well.” He nodded his head slowly and looked at me.
