I’ll have him tonight, any way I want him, just like I do nearly every night of our lives.
We wrap up the song, and I hold up my microphone to make my closing statement. Before I can get a word out, Logan’s voice over the speakers interrupt me.
“Before we go tonight, there’s something I want to say to the woman who started it all.” He approaches me from behind. I turn to face him.
What the hell is this crazy man up to?
Logan takes both my hands in his. The sound from the audience fades into a dull roar of surprise and confusion. Logan’s body heat radiates into me, setting my center on fire. His dark eyes drill into mine, the same way they did on the day he first told me he wanted me.
“Madison Daley, I’ve known you for most of my life. We met as idiot middle schoolers who didn’t understand true love when we felt it. For years, we denied our feelings and stuffed them down so far we didn’t even know they existed. Then a miracle happened. Your dumb ass took a dive off the stage and knocked some sense into both of us.”
The audience laughs, and I giggle along with them, my heart rate picking up speed. I have a suspicion of where he’s going with this, but I want to hear and hang on to every word he says. If this is what I think it is, I’m going to cherish this memory for the rest of our lives.
“While you were in a coma, I realized it wasn’t normal to dote on your best friend the way I always have. I realized that we had something special. When you woke up, things got a little complicated for a while, mainly because we were both hung up on someone else . . . but even through all the drama and back and forth, we managed to stay true to each other and ourselves. I have loved you all my life, Mads, but falling in love with you was the biggest high I’ve ever felt, and I don’t ever want to come down.”
Logan takes a knee in front of me, and my eyes immediately turn into twin waterfalls. I can barely make out the silver circle with a radiating center as he asks me the question I’ve been aching to hear for much longer than I realized.
“Cricket, will you marry me?”
I sob uncontrollably, only managing to nod my head. The audience breaks into wild cheers and applause. Logan slips a beautiful engagement ring onto my finger and seals it with a kiss, then stands to his feet and dips me as he ravages my lips.
As a rising rock star, I’ve experienced a lot of highs, but knowing I’m about to marry the love of my life is the biggest high in the world. I don’t ever plan on coming down.
