When he said sweet things like that, how could I resist? "Maybe we could just be really quiet?"
He shifted, turning toward me, and the bed groaned in protest.
"Sarah? Honey, did you need something?" Mom's voice carried far too easily in the quiet house.
I laughed. "No, Mom, we're good. But, uh, you might rest better with the TV on, or something."
My dad's quiet laughter cut off abruptly as the TV blared some late night comedy routine.
I leaned in to kiss Crank. "Now, where were we?"
"I don't know about you, but I was about to tell you how much I love you." He met my kiss, and deepened it. He turned carefully to bring me on top of him, and for the first time, he let me help roll on the condom, hissing as I touched him. "I can't wait to get home and get the all-clear, so we don't have to worry with these damn things anymore."
I rose over him and guided him into position. "I can't either. Maybe we'll get rid of the birth control pills then, too."
The force of his thrust drove a loud gasp from me. So much for our intentions to stay quiet.

Everything looked so different here, but Crank drove too quickly for me to take much of it in. As soon as our plane landed, he had shuffled Jimmy and me off to get our luggage, and then to the parking garage. Runner and Chancey decided to drive from Oklahoma, so I had to face it all alone.
I consoled myself with reminders that I had already met some of Crank's friends, and they would be there. It wasn't like going to a place where I didn't know a single soul. And I had Jimmy to keep me busy, too. We had to get him all registered for school and ready to go.
When Crank turned the car down a dirt road, my lungs refused to draw in air quickly enough, and my heart tried to jump away. Behind me, Jimmy chattered on, oblivious, having spotted animals in a field nearby.
Crank reached over and took my hand. "Breathe, Sarah. It's okay." He parked the car in front of a sprawling house with a yard full of people. "They're going to love you as much as I do."
He got out and came around to open my door, and took my arm while I got out. Cheers erupted all around us, and I nearly dove back inside the car.
"Everyone, shut the fuck up!" He waited a moment for silence to settle over the crowd. "This is Sarah. She's my ol' lady. And this is Jimmy, and he's my kid now."
More cheering, and finally, I spotted a familiar face. Cherry. "Well, Crank, I'm glad to see you got your head outta your ass. We missed your handsome face around here." She smacked his shoulder, then turned me. "Welcome to the Hell Raiders, Sarah."
