“I’m glad you guys got it worked out, for real. Tech’s a good guy, man,” Syn acknowledged.

Steele agreed. But he didn’t need Syn to tell him that. He already knew. Oh, he couldn’t wait to have the man all to himself, tonight. No one to interrupt them while they were talking, no one a few feet away, listening and teasing. He’d give him what they’d both wanted from day one.

This time when the door buzzer rang, he was a little cooler. He didn’t run to the door, but he didn’t make Tech have to ring it twice. He was early, which meant Tech couldn’t wait any longer, either. Steele smiled, pulling open the metal door. “Oh, fuck no.” Frowning angrily, he slammed it back shut.

The door reopened. “Now, that was rude.” Day grinned, sauntering inside. “Is that how you’re going to greet our Tech?”

“What is this? Are you guys serious?” Steele fussed, staring incredulously at his lieutenants.

“Slam the door in my face again and watch what I do to you,” God said, shoving past him. “I was invited for eggrolls. If you don’t mind.”

“Yeah, everything ain’t about you, Steele.” Day pffted.

Steele leaned against the front door, looking at his co-workers. What had he gotten himself into? Was his date going to be on the local news too? The door buzzed again and Steele’s heart began to hammer in his chest, but he still played it off. “Who is this, the chief of police?” He scowled at his team before opening the door.

“Were you expecting the chief?” Tech asked, standing there looking more stunning than he’d ever seen him look.

Steele’s gaze raked him up and down. From his casual brown leather and suede oxfords, up his long legs encased in denim to his extremely soft-looking beige sweater. Was it cashmere? It looked cashmere. Steele loved the Burberry plaid collared shirt underneath. He wanted to rip those preppy clothes off him so he could get to that enticing smell. Tech’s style was matchless. He felt underdressed now, in his best jeans, which meant no holes or tattered fringe at the bottom but still kind of faded on the knees, and a solid green, button-down shirt. At least he’d thought to steal a pair of Ruxs’ leather boots out of his closet instead of wearing his combats. If Ruxs had noticed them, he didn’t comment. Tech looked like Ivy League slumming it with a trade school student. Steele loved it. He wasn’t insecure in the least. Tech was crazy about him… he was sure of that.

“You look great… come on, let’s go.” Steele yanked his leather coat off the hook, gripped Tech’s shoulder, and tried to hurry and close the door behind him.

“Hey! Hey! Hold up!” He heard yelling behind him before he could fully shut the door.

Tech turned around, looking confused. “Is that Syn? Who else is in there?”

“Um, no one. That was the TV. Let’s go.” Steele tugged Tech around his waist, almost dragging him.

Syn opened the door with a huge smile. “Hey, why you rushing off?”

Tech maneuvered out of Steele’s hold. “Syn, what are you doing here? Is Furi in there?”

“He sure is. Come on in.” Syn hooked his arm around Tech’s lean shoulders and pulled him away from Steele, giving him a gotcha look over his shoulder. Steele flicked Syn off while he trudged back inside.

Tech looked pleasantly surprised when he walked in and found everyone there. Not pissed like Steele. This was their night. He saw these meatheads every day, all day. He wanted his time alone with Tech. He watched his date walk right up to Furious and wrap him in a brotherly embrace.

“Hey, you. Wow, you look gorgeous,” Furi said, giving Tech a Hollywood smile.

“Thank you. What are all of y’all doing here? I didn’t know there was a get together planned.” Tech turned, looking at his teammates. “How come you didn’t tell me?”

Steele shook his head in disbelief. Tech could be so sweetly oblivious sometimes. He loved his team so much he couldn’t even tell that the guys were fucking with Steele by trying to cock block him. They all knew how much he wanted Tech. Like hell, he was letting this happen.

Tech’s eyes lit up when he peeked in the kitchen. “And Green’s cooking… Steele, let’s stay here,” Tech yelled over to him. “Oh Day, are you cooking, too?”

  “Sure. I can,” Day agreed.

“What? No way.” Steele took long determined steps and clasped Tech’s hand before he could make his way farther into the kitchen. “Nope, not staying. We’re going to Atlantic Station, they got food there. Come on.”

Tech let Steele pull him back to the door. Tech waved frantically behind him, telling Furi he’d call him later with all the details. Steele could still hear them laughing and Ruxs hollering something about letting him get a picture first, but Steele slammed the door shut.

“You in a hurry?” Tech provoked him, slowing their steps to the parking lot.

Steele jerked Tech into his arms and kissed him hard, letting him know just how anxious he was to get this date started. “Unless you want to be bent over in front of our friends, I suggest you get moving,” Steele urged, sucking behind Tech’s ear.

Tech wrapped one arm around Steele’s waist, the other cupping his jaw. “You look good, too.” He held his head higher, guiding Steele’s mouth to a spot next to his Adam’s apple. “Mmm. More.”

Steele reluctantly pulled back. “Later. Lots more, later. But we gotta go, or we’ll be late for the next showing.”

Tech led him to a shiny, all-black Tahoe parked next to Green’s Camaro. “This is your truck?” Steele stared disbelievingly.

“What’d you think I drove? A Volkswagen Beetle?” Tech hit the key fob, unlocking the doors.

“No,” Steele said, climbing inside. “This is nice. Holy shit!”

Tech laughed, closing his door and fastening his seatbelt.

“Tech, what is all this?” Steele pointed at all the equipment, including the twelve-inch display screen that lit up when Tech pressed the ignition button.

“Good evening, Shawn. What is your destination?”

Steele looked at Tech with the funniest expression he could probably make. “Your car is talking to you.”

“Yeah, he does that. I’m going to navigate myself, though.” Tech tapped a few keys on what looked like an iPad and waited until their current location displayed. He turned on the radio and classical music started quietly as he put the truck in drive.

“This is crazy,” Steele said, still looking around. “Is this… is this a laptop in here?”

Tech looked over at the woodgrain dashboard on the passenger side, while Steele tried to figure out how to open it.

“Yeah. I guess I was kind of bored when I put that in.” Tech shrugged like everyone could have one of those.

“Did you do all this?” Steele asked, finally settling back and enjoying the smooth ride.

“Well me and Furi. There’s nothing that guy can’t do with a vehicle. I bought this bad boy about a year ago and took it to his shop for him to look over. I started telling him what I wanted to do and he told me I was free to come there and work on it in his shop, anytime. And since I have no life outside of work, I went there often. He helped with the bodywork and his shop partner Doug helped with rearranging the interior to accommodate everything. He had to redo the dash and the entire front panel so I could insert the new system. It quickly became a hobby. I wanted to use it if I ever got in the field.”

Steele noticed the change in Tech’s voice, the want. He reached over the raised center console – wondering what kind of surprise was in there, probably a cappuccino maker – and rubbed his forearm. “You talked to Syn, right?”

“A while ago, but I haven’t heard anything. Maybe he’s still trying to convince God to give me a shot. I don’t know. Let’s not talk about that. So, we’re going to the Station. I love it down there. The storefronts and bars. I don’t go often but I always liked it.” Tech headed onto the freeway.

“My uncle told me about this movie in the park that they do. There’s a really nice restaurant with outside booths. I thought we could eat outside, talk, watch an old classic.” Steele hoped Tech was into that. He’d mentioned liking action and old-time films.

“That sounds real nice. I’ve never done that.” Tech’s smile was beautiful, and Steele was glad he’d chanced asking his uncle for help.

“Is your uncle married?” Tech asked.

  “No. No wife, no kids.”

  “Is he gay?”

Steele barked a laugh. “No. He’s married to bettering the community. That’s all he does. Oh, and working out.” Steele huffed. “Maybe he is gay.”

Tech’s laugh was infectious and they made small talk for the duration of the drive. He liked Tech’s truck; again, it was something unexpected from him. Steele looked over when he heard a loud beeping. “What’s that? You out of gas?”

Tech looked at him like he was silly. “No. It means someone’s riding my ass.” Tech looked up in his rearview mirror.

“Okay. This car is like Kit,” Steele joked.

“You mean from Knight Rider?” Tech grinned. “Damn, how old are you?”

Steele punched Tech in his shoulder. “Shut up. That show was great.”

  “Um. Sure. Thirty years ago.”

Steele scoffed. “That wasn’t thirty years ago.”

“You’re right, probably more. I bet the episodes are only available on VHS.”

“Oh, fuck you. That show isn’t that old.”

Tech raised one brow at him. “Secret.”

  “Yes, Shawn.”

“How old is the television show Knight Rider?”

The car responded immediately like it’d been expecting the question.

“Knight Rider first aired its pilot episode September 26, 1982. Thirty-four years ago.”

Steele could barely control himself. That was crazy. “You show off. Damn, babe. Did you install that?”

“It’s just the Google app installed in the car’s computer. Same way it works on your smartphone.” Tech bit his bottom lip again but little did he know, that drove Steele wild. “Annnnd, I kind of borrowed some of Tesla’s 2019 software, and a smidge of Mercedes.” Tech gestured with his forefinger and thumb.

“Did you steal their technology and put it in your truck?” Steele’s eyes widened.

Tech looked out his window. “I didn’t steal it… I borrowed it. Taking it on a test drive, if you will. Besides, there’s no crime here. I’m not using it to make a profit or trying to copy it and sell it. It’s for my own personal use. Like downloading music from a free site. As long as you don’t make a CD and sell it, it’s all good.”

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure neither of those companies would think it’s all good.”

“Who are you, the police? I thought I was on a date,” Tech taunted him.

Steele was liking Tech’s playful side. The things his brain could do astonished him. He was riding in a loaded vehicle with highly expensive, stolen technology, which, from what Steele could understand, wasn’t even available, yet. “Why do you call it Secret?”

“Because it’s one of my best kept ones.”

  “Well, not anymore.”

“But I trust you.” Tech looked at him and Steele saw he wasn’t joking anymore.

  “Thank you.”

“Do you know where we are?” Tech asked out of nowhere, probably to tamp down the seriousness.

  Steele looked around. “No.”

“You haven’t been studying your map.”

“I do know.” Steele sat up. “Um, let’s see, that’s Georgia Tech, right…? So we’re on, seventeenth, no, tenth street. Up there is Northside.”

Tech nodded that he was right.

“See. I told you. I’m ready for my quiz, anytime.”

“If you say so. It’s not going to be an easy one.”

Steele turned his body towards Tech, eyeing him suspiciously. “Did you give everyone else a quiz?”

  “That’s not important,” Tech answered.

  “Uh-huh. Like I thought.”

  Tech

Steele told the hostess that Councilman Steele made a reservation for him. She nodded and hastily showed them to a secluded booth on a romantically lit patio at the back of the restaurant. It backed up to the park and the screen was plenty big enough for them to see. The movie was already playing but Tech didn’t mind. He was too busy taking in the ambiance. There were a few booths outside but there was only one other couple, at the other end. He slid into the high-backed, curved booth that had a small fire pit in the middle, giving them just enough warmth against the brisk fall air. The lawn wasn’t packed like it was during the summer. Most of the movie watchers were in their folding chairs closer to the screen with blankets draped over their shoulders or laps. With Steele nestled in close to him in the comfortable, leather-padded booth, he had the best seat available.

Steele made sure they were close enough that their thighs were touching and opened the menu, sharing it with him. A young waitress came over with a pleasant smile and filled their water glasses. “Can I start you gentlemen off with something to drink?”

“I’ll have a Corona,” Tech ordered.

“Let me get a double shot of Crown on the rocks.”

“Sure. Be right back with that for you,” she said, turning quickly and heading back inside.

  “You hungry?” Steele asked him.

“I’m very hungry,” Tech almost moaned. He didn’t know why he said it like that, but he let the double meaning hang out there.

Steele gave him an inviting look before he finally responded, “Me, too.”

“How about an appetizer? You said you liked shrimp.”

  Tech nodded. “I do.”

“Wanna share a couple orders of the cocktail?”

Tech took a sip of his water, nodding. He was suddenly nervous and his mouth felt as dry as dust. It had felt like Steele was so far out of his league at first, but as Tech got to know him over the weeks, he began to realize just how amazing they could be together. It was as if the man didn’t know how dangerous he was. Tech was still reeling over the sparring match he’d seen that afternoon between Steele and God. The man was incredible. Tech found himself wanting to be pinned under him, helpless and writhing.

  “What are you thinking?”

Tech jumped at Steele’s deep voice, feeling like he’d been caught with his hands in his pants. Though it was chilly out, he could feel the warmth of embarrassment licking up his throat. Steele’s sharp gray eyes locked in on it and Tech shivered under the strong glare. Jesus. Before he could answer Steele’s question the waitress returned with their drinks on a small tray. She set Steele’s short tumbler of amber liquor in front of him and Steele passed Tech his frosted mug with his beer already poured in it.

“Are you thinking of starting with one of our delicious appetizers tonight?” The waitress looked expectantly between them.

Steele answered for them and Tech watched Steele reach in his inside coat pocket and pull out a pack of those sweet cigars and a silver Zippo lighter with the Grim Reaper on it while giving the waitress their starter order.

When she left, Steele lit the cigar and took a deep pull, narrowing his eyes when he blew the smoke out of his nose and mouth. After drinking a quarter of his drink without so much as a grimace, he turned and faced Tech again. He wanted to jump up and straddle Steele right then and there, darn whoever decided to turn and watch.

Steele’s mouth curved in a knowing leer. “Never mind. I think I know what you’re thinking.” Steele pulled on the cigar again. A hint of the fragrant aroma making its way to him. He was never one to get into the habit of smoking, but he always thought it looked sexy. And Steele wasn’t smoking a typical Marlboro, the slender brown cigar looked hand rolled and smelled intoxicating.

Tech couldn’t hold it anymore. He grabbed the back of Steele’s neck and pulled him the few inches that separated their mouths and kissed him forcefully, tilting his head to get a better angle. He didn’t ease up the pressure until Steele slid that whiskey-flavored tongue inside his mouth. Tech’s dick hardened and filled to capacity as he swooned in the erotic aroma of sweet tobacco and top-shelf liquor. Tech moaned inside Steele’s mouth and felt him react, pulling him closer with one arm and deepening the kiss. He shuddered, and it wasn’t from the cold. He needed Steele to take him so badly it was killing him. Tech reached down and squeezed the rigid bulge between Steele’s legs, already imagining it spreading him wide open.

“Easy, baby,” Steele whispered huskily after breaking the kiss. “You don’t want me coming just yet, do you?”

Steele turned to look around, maybe to see who was watching, but Tech didn’t care. He hadn’t had sex in… Jesus… he wasn’t sure how long. Way too long. He pressed his forehead against Steel’s jaw, trying to calm his raging libido. Even though Steele had shaved, his cheek was still rough with prickly salt and pepper stubble. Tech gave him a soft kiss and burrowed further into the crook of his neck, lingering close to where Steele had dabbed his spicy cologne.

“You’re going to get yourself in trouble,” Steele growled, reaching around and easing his fingers inside Tech’s waistband. He couldn’t go far, but the tips of his gun-calloused fingers grazed the top of his seam and Tech let out a combination whine and moan, while he tried to mold his body to Steele’s entire right side.

The waitress came back with their appetizers and placed them on the table. “Are you ready to order your entrees?”

Steele hadn’t removed his fingers, but from where she stood she couldn’t see exactly where they were, and Tech felt a surge of naughty excitement flood his body when Steele reached a little farther and used his middle finger to tickle him… however, the feeling it gave Tech was far from funny. Steele didn’t let on what he was doing as he asked the waitress to give them a little more time. When she walked away, Steele turned back to him, that same smoky passion blazing in his eyes. “I want in here,” he groaned, caressing the top of Tech’s ass.

“Anything you want,” Tech answered breathlessly. That sounded slutty, but oh, well. He was sitting in a public restaurant, outside, wishing his date would get his finger closer to his hole. It didn’t get any sluttier than that.
