He was scrubbing his bar of soap over his chest when he heard his name whispered in the roughest, sexiest voice he’d ever heard.

  “Shawn.”

Tech dropped the soap, almost slipping in the wide shower, just barely catching himself on the wall. He pressed his earpiece. “I’m here,” he breathed nervously. He knew who it was. Jesus Christ.

“I guess I wanted to see if you really had that thing in at all times.”

“Steele.” Tech’s voice revealed his flustered state. He was in the shower, wet, hot, naked, with Steele’s dark voice in his ear.

  “Yes.”

“I… What… Is something wrong?” Tech tried to bring his breathing back to normal, he sounded like he’d just finished a race.

“No. Just wanted to test out my new device.”

Tech huffed. He was still bracing himself on the shower wall like Steele’s voice alone was enough to put him on his ass if he wasn’t careful. “You wanted to test it now… right now… after midnight?”

“I didn’t catch you at a bad time, did I”?

Tech rolled his eyes. “I’m trying to finish my sh—” Tech stopped. Did he want Steele to know that he was bathing right now?

“You’re in the shower… I can hear the water.”

Steele’s voice had gone even lower, accompanied by a seductive huskiness that Tech knew he’d added on purpose.

“This is not what the earpieces are for.” He tried to move his thoughts away from anything naughty.

“Can you still hear if there’s an emergency?”

  “Yes.”

“Okay, then. Why don’t you finish your shower…? I have something I wanna say.”

“You can call my cell phone.”

Steele replied slowly. “Hmm. I think I’d like to keep testing my earpiece, wanna be sure the acoustics are just right. You go ahead and finish bathing. I’ll just lie here patiently and keep you company.”

“Oh god,” Tech groaned and picked up the soap off the shower floor. He needed to hurry up since his cock was already thickening.

Steele started speaking again while Tech ran the bar of soap over his thighs. “It’s been bothering me all evening how I spoke to you. How our conversation ended.”

Tech stayed quiet, lathering his body.

“I was never great at rejection. I guess I got a little cocky and thought you’d definitely say yes. Especially after that kiss we shared” He heard Steele let out a soft sigh. “The way you clung to me. The way your body reacted to me. It felt good, ya know. It felt right.”

“Oh fuck,” Tech whispered, unable to stop it.

“Yeah. It felt good. I hadn’t been kissed in a while. You’re good at it. The way you move your tongue.” Steele sighed again, his breath stuttering a bit. “I couldn’t help but be greedy. I wanted more… I still do.”

Tech moaned before he caught himself. He ran his soapy hands over his balls in the pretense of washing them but he never lingered on them this long. After the tenth or so brush over, they surely had to be clean by now, but he didn’t stop.

“But I respect your decision, Tech. I said some things I didn’t mean. I just want… I want you so bad. You’re a beautiful, smart, sexy man… a strong man—”

Tech whimpered, one hand stroking his shaft while the other kept up lazy circles over his balls. No one called him strong. No one called him beautiful. He was eclectic at best. Tech rested his back against the warm tiles and spread his legs. Steele couldn’t see what he was doing, thank god, while he let that sinful voice penetrate his mind.

“Tell me you want me too.”

“I do. I want you so much,” Tech breathed out, lost in the trance Steele was luring him into.

“I’m willing to do the work, Shawn. To have you all to myself.” Steele’s breathing was picking up, too, his words still sensual, but distracted, pained… like he was—

“Oh. Unh.” Tech could imagine Steele fisting himself just like he was. It was so crazy what they were doing, but damn if the image didn’t make him pick up the pace, his back arching off the wall as his need to orgasm made itself known. The steady pressure of hot water beat on his chest, the feeling glorious on his erect nipples.

  “Slow down, sweetheart. Not yet.”

Without thinking, Tech did as he was told. His fist had been flying over his engorged dick, the urge to come overwhelming now. He gasped and panted while he stroked a little slower, keeping himself right on the edge; knowing Steele’s words, his voice, could send him crashing over any minute. The Marine knew exactly what Tech was doing now. There was no denying it. But Tech knew Steele was doing it, too. Oh god, he’d never done anything like this. A modern type of phone sex. Steele groaned long and hushed in his ear like he was sneaking around. Tech’s legs shook, his body was seizing up at the thought he was turning Steele on without even saying anything. He was letting Steele run this… whatever this was. Tech was confused how they’d gone from shoving and storming away from each today to jerking off together tonight. He was leaking like an adolescent, using most of it to make his hand glide easily along the flushed skin.

“Are you hairless, baby? I’m picturing your tight body, naked and glistening.” Steele’s breath gusted once, twice, followed by a sensual growl. “I can see all that pale skin, pink from the steam… and from your arousal. You’re hot for me… I like that… unnnnh… I need that.” Steele moaned so deep the vibration resonated in Tech’s ear and down his body. Steele sounded like he was close. Tech closed his eyes, fisting himself with quick shallow pumps, easing his other hand behind him, teasing his hole while he listened for every hitch in Steele’s breath, every sharp intake of air.

“I know I need to slow down, give you some space, but… oh god… I’m so fuckin’ hard for you. You have no idea how much I wanted to take you up on your offer today… and I will… but not until—”

Tech pushed the tip of his finger inside his pulsing hole. Just the thought of Steele being in there one day was enough to make him shoot hard and long. He cried out at the first jolt of his built up release, then whined Steele’s name on the next.

“That’s it… call out to me…” Steele’s words were rushed and Tech could easily imagine Steele’s strong hand fisting his hard cock. “Yeah, yeah, yeah… oh fuuuck. You sound so sexy when you come, sweetheart. Fuck, I’m ‘bout to come so hard…unnnnnh fuuuck, baby.”

Tech sagged against the wall; still squeezing and milking the head of his cock while he listened to the most amazing man he’d ever met come from just thinking about him in the shower. Tech felt dizzy and sated, having come harder than he had in years, and Steele hadn’t laid one finger on him. God help him when he did.

Tech knew Steele could hear him trying to recuperate, and he could hear Steele was panting hard and murmuring little curses in what sounded like another language. “Jesus. Shawn that was… see oli hea... go to sleep now, Shawn. I want you to dream about me. Goodnight, minu armas armuke."

Tech knew the line was clear; Steele was gone, but it took him a few more seconds to get himself together enough to get out of the cooling shower. He leaned against the door to his bathroom with a silly expression on his face. He couldn’t believe they’d done that. Was that the way the man apologized, because if so, Tech wouldn’t mind Steele insulting him a little more often. He’d ended that call perfectly. What had Steele said? What language was that?

Tech hurried into his bedroom and pulled up the earpiece’s software. It automatically transcribed all transmissions. After he figured out what Steele said to him, he needed to delete that particular transcript forever. This was not a conversation that would be recovered by WikiLeaks. Tech smiled foolishly while tapping a few keys, his towel cinched at his waist with his other hand. When he clicked on the link the transcript downloaded and Tech went through everything that was said, shaking his head when his cock started to jump again as he got further along. Some of the words were “inaudible” and he knew those were the sounds of their grunts and moans. When he got to the last sentence – minu armas armuke – Tech opened the language converter and clutched his hand over his chest when the English translation appeared.

  “Goodnight, my sweet lover.”

  Day

Day sat at Syn and Furi’s small dinette table just a little after dawn, gulping down his fourth cup of coffee. His temples throbbed and his stomach ached after he’d foolishly chosen imported beer as his dinner the night before. He hadn’t been able to go home last night. His brain and his heart were going head to head with each other, leaving him in a constant state of confusion and disappointment. After work, he’d gone to Furi’s garage to hang out with him and watch him work. Furi’s job was fascinating, regardless of him being a mechanic. The shit he could build was remarkable, and Day knew he was currently rebuilding a ‘73 Norton for his showroom floor.

Furi was one of Day’s best friends. From the moment the man had stepped into Syn’s life, Day knew he’d be a part of the family. He’d been married before to an abusive shithead that stalked him while he was dating Syn, and the entire team provided him with protection, which quickly solidified a bond between them. He was a great guy and one of the most talented mechanics in Atlanta. His business had been a success from the moment he opened his bay doors.

When Day showed up at his garage, Furi took one look at him and dropped the heavy wrench in his hand, walking straight up to Day and hugging him fiercely… just like he’d needed. They’d downed a couple six packs while Day assisted Furi with his work. Passing him the occasional tool here and there while he vented his frustration about God. It was late by the time God texted him, asking him to come home, but he ignored it. He couldn’t… couldn’t deal right then. He was tipsy and depressed, never a good combination for him. Furi locked up Day’s Mustang in his shop and took him to his and Syn’s home, listening to him blubber and curse all night about being stupid enough to propose.

“Morning, Leo. How you feeling?” Furi asked, walking into the kitchen in nothing but a pair of loose basketball shorts.

“Like a bitch that’s been rode hard,” Day grumbled, taking another long drink of the black liquid.

Furi almost choked on his own cup of coffee, laughter bursting out of him. He sat down in the chair next to Day’s. “Okay. That doesn’t sound great, but you promised you’d talk to God today. Put your foot down. All this skirting around the topic and trying to casually slip in a conversation about a wedding date here and there is bullshit, Leo. You deserve an explanation for why God is putting you off like this. Don’t take it anymore. Enough is enough.”

“I agree,” Syn added, walking into the kitchen already fully dressed for work. He bent down, gripping a handful of Furi’s long, brownish-gold mane and pulled his head back, laying a long, loud kiss on his mouth.

“Umm. Should I get up so you guys can use the table?” Day dropped his head in his hands while Syn slapped him on his back hard enough to make his head pound louder.

“Nah, go ahead. We can at least wait until you finish your coffee,” Syn threw over his shoulder, filling his travel mug with orange juice. That meant Syn was ready to go.

Furi walked them to the door, his arm draped over Day’s shoulder. “Leo, you know I love God and all, but you know what, if God won’t get his shit together, maybe you should leave him.”

Day’s head snapped to the side like he’d been popped. “Leave him,” Day grumbled. “I don’t wanna reward him… I just want him to tell me what’s up.”

“Yeah. Leave him. Show him what he’ll be missing. Let him know you won’t be taken for granted and jerked around. There comes a time when you have to take what you deserve. Respect.” Furi crossed his arms over his tattooed chest like his idea made perfect sense, but the way Syn was scowling at Furi made him bring it down a notch. “I just want you to be happy, Leo.”

“That’s enough advice from you, Tony Robbins.” Syn pushed Day out the door like he didn’t want him to hear any more of Furi’s empowering rhetoric.

“Hey, you sure you don’t wanna pick up your car now?”

“No. Furi said he’d tune it up for me later this week. It was riding a little rough. I’ll ride back with God.”

“So you’re going home tonight?” Syn stopped at a light and turned to face him.

“Yeah, I am. This is getting crazy. If Cash won’t give me an answer tonight, I’m telling him the engagement is off… done… taken back. Whatever the fuck you call it. I thought about it all last night, and if all we can be is boyfriends, not husbands… then… then, I can deal with it.” Day shook his head, groaning. “I think.”

“You can. We got your back, you know that,” Syn said, pulling into the station’s busy parking lot. The shifts were changing and cars were pulling in and out, but Day saw God’s big silver truck already there. Feeling his eyes cloud with moisture and frustration, he climbed out of Syn’s car and headed for the front doors without looking to see if his sergeant was with him. As soon as he walked through their department doors, God swiveled around to face him, a look of anger washing across his stern features. Tech looked back and forth between them, then got up and bolted to his equipment room, closing himself inside. If Day hadn’t been so beat and worn, he would’ve laughed.

“You never came home last night, Leonidis.”

Day dropped his bag on the floor next to his desk. “Whoever said you weren’t a great detective, God, was out of their damn mind.”

God rose up from his seat. “You’re going to joke… NOW?”

“And you’re going to come at me… NOW?” Day threw back.

“Take it down,” Syn hissed, finally coming through the door.

“I’m finished,” God said through clenched teeth.

“The hell you are. Both of you go home.” Syn set his mug on his desk hard enough to emphasize that he wasn’t playing and it wasn’t a request, it was an order. “No one is dealing with this shit another day. You two go home and fix it. Immediately. You got everyone around here ducking and hiding when you’re both around, either that or it’s as quiet as a library, everyone too afraid to tell a joke because you’re acting like the world is coming to an end. Now get gone. Both of you. Come back when you’ve come to a solution…” Syn bored God with a hard, dark glare. “Come back after you’ve been completely honest with each other.”

Day swallowed hard. Syn had to know why God was stalling. Syn knew everything but Day didn’t pressure him for answers. Not like Syn would tell him anything anyone told him in confidence. But Day felt a small sliver of hope spring up in his chest. If Syn was sending them home, he must believe that God had something he needed to confess, and it couldn’t be that disastrous because he said to come back when they were honest. Did God want him? Did he still want to marry him?

God closed up the file he’d been reading and tucked it in his desk drawer, mumbling the entire time. “Being thrown out of my own department. I’m the head of this task force.”

“Well come back when your head is in the game and out of your ass.” Syn didn’t flinch when God slammed his drawer shut, shoved his chair back under his desk, and stood toe-to-toe with him. Syn looked almost bored when he responded. “If you’ve finished your tantrum… get out.”

Day wanted to run up and kiss Syn, but instead he turned and left. Syn had been recruited from Philadelphia by them for a reason. He knew how to take charge if he had to, and if something happened to the amazing team that was God and Day, they could count on Syn to run the task force.

Day waited by God’s truck, rehearsing in his head how he wanted this to play out. Being an asshole wasn’t going to cut it. Neither was being reserved. All he wanted to know was where he stood. God unlocked the doors and both of them climbed inside, not yet ready to talk. The heat radiating off of God was enough to almost suffocate him, and that horrible feeling came back full force. That feeling that his life was about to change for the worse. A complete one-eighty from how he’d felt when he’d proposed.

God turned into their driveway, which was only ten minutes from the precinct, and killed the engine, finally looking at him, but Day couldn’t look back. Couldn’t look into those gorgeous green eyes that held his heart. He felt God brush the top of his hand with his fingers, but Day still couldn’t turn to look at him.

“Leo, let’s go inside and talk.”

Day got out of the truck without a word or a glance. He held in his smart comment about God finally wanting to talk and went inside. It was only eight a.m., still early, and his stomach was starting to protest from the copious amounts of liquor still sloshing in there with no solid food to soak it up. “Are you hungry?” he asked, going straight to the kitchen.

“Sure. You can cook, I’ll talk. It’s time I get this out before it destroys us.”

  God

He’d never felt more like a coward. His stomach was in his throat and his hands were sweating enough for him to have to wipe them on his jeans several times. Not much could get him upset or off his game. But Day being mad at him left him flustered, and Syn had been right to send them packing until they got their shit together. He was weak when he and his other half weren’t of one accord. His strength lay within that man. It was almost biblical. Even Sampson – the strongest man in the bible – had one weakness… his woman. Day could destroy him if he left him. God needed to get the conflict out of their relationship.

Day set a bottle of water in front of him on the breakfast bar where he sat watching Day move around his gourmet-style kitchen.

“So talk,” Day said softly, pulling items out of the pantry.

  “Leo. I um… I should’ve said this before… I don’t… I don’t want a wedding.”

Day froze, standing outside the pantry, and God could see his hand shaking on the door, his body trembling. Oh shit. God hurried off the stool and clasped Day around his waist, pulling his strong back to his chest.
