Taken (A Dystopian Novel) (The Taken Trilogy), page 28
“Richards is probably long gone,” I say resolutely. He summons me to where he’s standing, which is near a window that faces the backyard.
“You don’t understand right now, but I just know that I kept you out of it for a good reason, Jackson. You would’ve been against this, and maybe even tried to stop it. But you’re a fighter, and people like you. So I know I’ll need you. James here is ruthless and selfish, it’s perfect. We have a chance to change things, Jackson,” Russell hooks his arm around my neck in a hard swoop and does the same with James.
“A real chance…” his voice trails off. Though I suspect that we both know that what will follow will change both of us forever. The second we walk away from this window, he will become Penn Richards, and I will become him. So we stand there a little while longer, staring at the havoc outside, until my gaze slowly drifts up. Soon it would be a new day.
