Nick watched Jesse walk away. His smile faded and he swore under his breath. She was tough to get a handle on. Was she the princess type he always pegged her for? She certainly threw her education in his face quickly enough. It would be interesting to see if she stomped off to Brian to complain. He wasn’t about to mention he’d gone to Yale. Let her assume.

And yet she had put their differences aside quickly enough when the work needed doing. In all fairness, she had been the consummate professional, working skillfully and doggedly beside him. She was everything you would want in a doctor. Not a whisper of an attitude.

Just a whisper of that scent she wore—a soft, warm fragrance assailing his nose when he finally emerged from the zone of work. Her smile had lit up her face with a warmth that pulled at his protective urges, and other urges he didn’t even want to think about.

Growling to himself, he shook his head determined to shift his focus where it belonged. Even if she turned out to be a decent doctor, she was married and she was a Roberts, or rather a Holbrook, he reminded himself grimly; he had no business enjoying anything about her on any level.
