Ride the Wind (Devil's Knights 2nd Generation, #8), page 9
Bear pointed at Pie. “Now that shit is smart.”
“If only all of you were that smart.” King glared at Easy. “What the fuck were you doing in her car?”
“I wasn’t in her car,” Easy exclaimed. “The closest I got to that thing was when Pie brought it in.”
“How close was that?” Bear asked.
“Not close at all. I saw him pull into the yard with it, and then the next time I went outside, the thing was gone. I was not in that fucking car.” Easy raised his hand in the air. “I swear on my mom, bro, I did not get in that car, or have anything to do with that chick going missing.”
“None of this makes sense,” Luna sighed. “If Easy was so careless with leaving his prints in the car, then he would have left some on the outside when he got in. The door handle at least.”
Ransom shook his head. “The only DNA or prints we found on the outside is from Kerry.”
“Then Easy’s prints must have been planted there,” I assumed. That had to be the only reason why his prints were there. It wasn’t like Kerry hung out at every clubhouse in a fifty-mile radius. As far as Reese had told me, Kerry only hung out with Brain from the Sons of Sin.
“Well, that is what we are thinking, too, but we are going to have to bring him in for questioning.” Ransom nodded to Easy. “We need to get your alibi for the night Brain and Kerry died and went missing.”
“My alibi,” Easy scoffed. “I don’t need a fucking alibi because I didn’t have a damn thing to do with either of those two. I didn’t know who either of them was until that car showed up here.”
Ransom shrugged. “Then you shouldn’t have a problem coming to the station with me.”
King held up his hand. “Is he under arrest?”
Ransom shook his head. “Not yet. We just want to ask a few questions down at the station.”
“Ransom,” Luna called.
Ransom shook his head. “Don’t look at me like that, Luna. I let you live your life with the club, so now you need to let me do my job. I’m working this case, and the evidence at the moment is leading me down this path.”
This was fucking crazy.
Was Ransom really thinking that Easy had something to do with Kerry’s disappearance?
“Kerry never mentioned Easy,” Reese interrupted. “Brain was the only biker guy she ever talked about.”
Ransom held up his hands. “The prints in her car say different.” He nodded to Easy. “Come down to the station, and hopefully we can figure this all out.”
“Fucking hell,” Easy muttered. He pushed back his chair and stood. “It better be a few questions, and then I leave.”
“Hopefully. Unless you drop some huge fucking bombshell, you’ll be back at the clubhouse in an hour.” Ransom agreed.
Easy walked out with Ransom and Bear behind him.
“Is this shit for real?” Hero asked. “How the hell is one of our guys being pinned for this chick’s disappearance?”
King sat back in his chair and ran his fingers through his hair. “I need to fucking retire. You guys are going to seriously put me in an early grave.”
“Same, brother,” Rigid agreed.
Easy’s dad, stood. “I’m going to follow behind to the station. I know Ransom is yours Luna, but I don’t trust a cop any further than I can throw them.”
Luna held up her hands. “That’s your prerogative. I know Ransom is just doing his job.”
“Yeah, but he’s job is going to pin Kerry’s disappearance on him.” I shook my head. I knew that Easy wasn’t the one to kidnap or kill Kerry. We just needed to figure out who was, and then everything would make sense.
“So what do we do now?” Hero asked.
I still believed that the Sons of Sin knew more than what they were telling me. Something wasn’t adding up with Ram and the rest of the club not caring about Brain, or even Kerry.
“What would you do if someone who was at the club wound up missing? Or one of you guys was found dead in your room?” I asked.
Zag rolled his eyes. “You already know the fucking answer to that, brother. When the club girls were winding up dead, we did everything we could to find out who was doing it and kept anyone who was remotely close to the club safe.”
“Yeah, which is what you would think any MC would do, right? Brotherhood and all that bullshit? Well, the Sons of Sin aren’t doing a damn thing, because I think they had something to do with Brain’s death, and even Kerry disappearing.”
“How? What evidence do you have to help prove that?” King asked.
I shook my head. “Nothing more than a gut feeling.”
King glanced at Rigid who shrugged. “That’s more than what we go off of sometimes.”
King grunted. “Fine. I’ll reach out to Ram and see if I can find anything out.”
“But why?” Reese interrupted. “I mean, I don’t really care about Brain because I didn’t know him, but why would they kidnap and kill Kerry?”
“We don’t know that she is dead,” I pointed out.
“My hope for Kerry being alive is dwindling every day,” Reese sighed. “I just want answers about what happened to her.”
Rigid leaned into Reese. “And we’ll get them for you, sweetheart. You’re about to see what a real MC looks like.”
“Okay,” King announced. “Everyone keep their eyes open, and your head out of your asses. Easy somehow is getting setup, and we need to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
“This is such bullshit,” Frost muttered.
That was the truth. I did not expect this news when Ransom had walked into church.
“I’m going to make contract with the Sons of Sin and see what I can find out.” King nodded to me. “You keep things normal over there. Don’t let them know anything. Especially about Easy being questioned about Kerry.”
“What should I do?” Reese asked.
“Stay safe and try not to get anymore wound up in this than you already are.” King stood. “No one else try to get arrested,” he growled. He strode out of the room and everyone got up and milled around.
“I’m so confused, Zig,” Reese whispered.
I reached out and squeezed her hand. I was, too, but I was going to help figure out what the hell was going on.
“Your mom is here,” dad called.
Jesus. I did not need to deal with family shit on top of what was happening with Easy right now. I wasn’t a member of the Devil’s Knights anymore, but I didn’t want them going down for something that they didn’t do.
“Are you okay with hanging out with Meg for a few minutes while I talk to me parents?”
Reese shrugged. “I guess so. Though, she seemed a little irritated we didn’t bring her anything from the bakery.”
I chuckled and shook my head. “Just give her that box from my bike, babe. I got it for everyone here anyway.”
“Really?”
I knew what I had been doing when I had asked Reese’s worker to fill a box full of pastries. “Did you think I was going to be able to eat everything?”
“So chocolate isn’t your favorite?” she asked.
“It is, but it’s also Meg’s.” I winked and stood. “Come one, it’s time for you to see the working side of the Devil’s Knights.”
“Taking her to Pole Stars?” Pie asked.
“Pole Stars?” Reese asked. “What is that?”
“Shut up,” I growled at Pie. “Uh, that’s something I can explain later. You can just hang out with Meg in her office at Knights Garage.”
“I’ll add it to the man other questions I have for you,” she smirked. “We can discuss all of them after you drop me at my car."
I pursed my lips. “How about at your house over dinner?” I suggested.
She laughed and smiled up at me. “You got a deal, Zig.”
I just needed to make whatever conversation my parents wanted to have, and then I could have an evening alone with Reese.
I kept telling myself I didn’t want anything to do with her, but something told me that I was wrong for thinking that.
That something was my feelings growing more and more for her every day.
God damn.

Chapter Fifteen
Reese
“So, how do you get your buttercream so fluffy?”
I tipped my head to the side. “I just whip the hell out of it.”
“Really?” Meg shoved the last bite of her cupcake into her mouth and sighed. “Even after being squished in Zig’s saddlebag, that was one of the best cupcakes I have ever had.”
“You don’t have to say that,” I laughed. “I know I make good cake, but I don’t think it’s the best ever.”
“Shoot, girl. You are too modest. You should get your butt on one of those cake decorating shoes. You could show them all a thing or two about fluffy buttercream and moist cake.”
“Ugh,” Cyn moaned. “Do not say moist. There has to be a better word than that.”
“Wet?” Reva suggested.
Meg cringed. “We’re talking about cake, not one of the dogs you wash.”
“Moist is the only word that you can use that makes sense when you’re talking about cake.” Bristol reached into the cake box and grabbed the last double chocolate cookie. “You just have to accept moist, Cyn.”
Cyn shook her head. “No, thank you. I’ll just say it’s good.”
“I think damn freaking good would be a better way to describe Reese’s baking.” Greta licked her fingers and rubbed her stomach. “I am so glad that Beat told me you were coming over here. I have been craving your croissants the past few days.” She sat up and put her finger in the air. “Do we have any mayo and peanut butter?”
Cyn cringed. “Girl, what in the hell do you want those two things for?”
“For a mayo and peanut butter sandwich. I think it would taste amazing on one of these croissants.”
“Oh no,” I laughed. “You are not going to do that to one of my flaky croissants.” She could put one of the other on the croissant, not both at the same time.”
“I will and I am.” She stood and headed into the kitchen. “Do we have any pickles?”
“My god,” Bristol moaned. “Either you’re pregnant or whacked in the head,” she laughed.
“Both,” Greta sang.
Meg jumped up and Cyn careened out of her chair.
“You’re what?” Meg demanded. “Does your mom know?”
“Does Bear know?” Cyn hoisted herself off the floor and brushed her hair from her face. “Let’s start there.”
“Yes, Bear knows,” Greta laughed. “He was there when it happened.” She winked and opened the fridge.
“Dear god,” Bristol cringed. “Not was he there when you did the deed, but was he there when you found out you were pregnant?”
“Yes, to both of those,” Greta laughed.
“Holy shit,” Meg laughed. “We’re going to be aunties!”
“Great aunties,” Cyn corrected her. “Which also makes us sound super freakin’ old.”
Meg dropped her arms to her side. “We are not old.”
“You guys should come up with a cool name instead of great aunties,” Greta suggested. “Like Jollies or something?”
Cyn blinked rapidly. “You want us to call ourselves Jollies, and then have your child call us that?”
Bristol and I busted out laughing.
“Come give your Jolly a kiss,” Meg mocked. Her face fell and she shook her head. “Not going to happen, girl. Think again.”
I cleared my throat and tried to get a handle on my laughing. “You could be Jolly Meg, or Jolly Cyn.”
“Ha!” Greta shouted. “I think you just killed me. Jolly Meg.”
“Maybe you should just stick with Aunt Meg, and drop the great?” Bristol suggested. “I think anything you guys come up with is not going to be okay with Bear or any of the other guys.”
“What does Kane call you?” I asked. From what I understood, he was the only baby born so far from Zig’s cousins.
“He doesn’t call us anything,” Cyn laughed. “We just say our name when we talk to him.” She reached out and pinched Meg’s cheeks. “Cyn-Cyn loves you, Kane-Kane.”
Meg knocked Cyn’s hands from her face and rubbed her cheeks. “What is wrong with you?” she laughed. “You could have said that without pinching the hell out of my face.”
Cyn shrugged. “The physical motion drives the point home.” She reached out again for Meg’s cheeks, but Meg ducked to the right.
“Stop it,” she scolded. “I swear to god. I’m supposed to be the crazy one, not you. You’re the crazy one’s best friend.”
Cyn shrugged and sat back down. “Eh, whatever. You could say your crazy has worn off on all of us.”
“True that,” Greta called. “I can only imagine how crazy my baby is going to be.”
Luna walked into the common room and her jaw dropped. “Baby?” she whispered.
“Oh shoot,” Greta sobbed. “I was going to tell you tonight when we went out for pizza.”
“We’re going out for pizza?” Luna asked.
Greta shut the fridge. “Uh, well, I was going to ask you to come for pizza when I saw you.”
“You’re having a baby?” Luna cried.
Greta nodded and her face crumpled. “Bear knocked me up. You ready to be an auntie for the second time?”
Luna let out a sob and nodded. “Yes.” Luna raced across the common room and Greta flung herself into Luna’s arms.
“What in the hell is going on here?” King called.
“I think they’re trying to do that lift thing from Dirty Dancing.” Rigid crouched down and pretended to lift something up. “You either need to be in the water, or you really need to use your knees.”
“No,” Meg laughed. “They’re not doing the lift.”
“Greta is pregnant,” Cyn blurted out. “And Bear knows, but don’t have Greta make you a sandwich because it will probably be peanut butter and mayo.”
“Good god,” Rigid cringed. “Who in the hell would want to eat a monstrosity like that?”
Greta let go of Luna and raised her hand over head. “That would be my fat ass.”
“You got any news for us?” Meg asked Luna. “You two could be pregnant at the same time.”
Luna reared back and shook her head. “That would not be my fat ass. I am not looking to be a mama just yet. I want to enjoy Ransom for a while yet.”
Greta shook her finger at Luna. “I had told myself that, and I think I might have enjoy Bear a little too much since I’m pregnant now.”
Luna tipped her head to the side. “I’ll enjoy Ransom a little bit less than you and Bear did.”
“Sound advice,” Greta smiled.
Gambler walked into the common room with stunning woman on his arm. I looked closer at the woman, and realized she looked a hell of a lot like Greta.
“You told them?” the woman asked.
“Gwen,” Meg shouted. “You’re going to be a grandma!”
“Shh,” Gwen laughed. “Don’t say that word too loud. I don’t think I am mentally ready for that just yet.”
“Congrats, Gambler,” King called. He wrapped him in a manly half hug and patted each other on the back.
“Thanks, brother. Who would have thought, right?” Gamble chuckled.
“I’m slightly offended by that,” Greta called. “I feel like you’re saying that me having a baby is not expected.”
Gwen elbowed Gambler in the side. “Knock it off,” she warned. “You know how sensitive she is going to be now that she is pregnant.”
“Who’s pregnant?” Hero asked.
That was when everything just went crazy.
They all talked at once, and I felt a little out of place. It was amazing Greta was pregnant, but I felt like I was on the outside looking in. I didn’t really have a place in any of this.
I was here with Zig, but was I with Zig? I didn’t think so.
Yes, he had said that he didn’t want to get wrapped up in my drama with Kerry, but we were both here trying to figure that out.
What would happen when we found Kerry, and everything went back to normal? Would I see any of these people ever again?
More than likely not.
I moved from my chair to over by the bar.
“You want a drink, doll?”
I turned on my stool and smile at Snapper, the one who had commandeered Zig’s box of pastries. “Water?” I asked. “I have to drive home later.”
“Make her a malibu and pineapple.” Zig sat next to me and smiled.
“You’re back,” I gasped.
“Never left, darlin’. Just was in the body shop having my family yell at me.”
“Yell at you,” I gasped. That did seem very family like to do.
“Well, not exactly yell, but they were letting me know how mad they are.”
“Why?” I asked. “What did you really do, Zig?” Or had he really done anything? I know it seemed odd that he was a part of a different MC than the rest of his family, but maybe that was what he needed.
“Calm down, Reese. You don’t need to get upset.” Zig motioned to Snapper for a beer. “Things actually went better than I had hoped for.”
“Can you stop being so vague and just tell me what is going on with you and your family?” I demanded.
Snapper set the beer in front of Zig and a cocktail in front of me. “You in for pizza?” he asked.
Zig glanced at me. “Hungry?”
I didn’t know what the right answer was. At first it had seemed like his talk with his parents had gone well, but now he was asking me if I wanted to have pizza with his family. Well, the club, but they all seemed like family. “Um, if you are?” That seemed like a diplomatic answer.
He chuckled and nodded to Snapper. “We can stay for a few slices.”
“Zig and Reese are in,” Snapper hollered. He slid down the bar to grab drinks for the rest of the guys.
“Why is it this place feels so different from the Sons of Sin clubhouse?” I asked. They were pretty much set up the same with a huge room with various tables, pool table, and darts with a bar along one wall, but it felt different. It felt homier here.
“Because the Sons of Sin are pieces of shit who only care about themselves?” Zig shrugged and took a sip from his beer.
