Coy showed up in court to testify with a large bandage on his left hand. That sealed it for him. He would never be able to walk the streets of New York City again nor go by The Midway Bar. That life was over. He had had a good run. He had lived the life of a wealthy embezzler and a drug dealer. He had made and spent a lot of money. But like most other drug dealers, he had not prepared for the future. Most of the money was gone and he still faced more prison time. However, he was fortunate to be alive. He had escaped with only a hand wound.

Whether it was worth it or not, it was over. But Coy was a man who never fretted the details. He accepted his fate and began to think about what he would do after serving his time. There were no regrets. Appearing in court was just a formality since Coy’s sentence was already agreed upon. He was given three years in Terminal Island Prison in the witness protection program. This meant that he would be isolated from the main population, since the people who were after him had unlimited resources. Three years later, he was transferred to a prison in Northern California to serve the rest of his time. He married Jean, his trusted girlfriend just before he was confined so that she could handle whatever of his affairs that needed attention, and so she could come to visit him with no problems. Seven years was a long time, but he was no longer safe on the outside. It would be a good place to hide, reflect and mentally prepare for his future.

  CHAPTER 59

While Coy was doing his time, life went on among the mob. Charlie Red was still snorting coke, and Leslie was still freaking off with Swazy and his other girls. Charlie knew what he had when he married her. Bob had warned him not to marry her. He told him, “You know Leslie is Swazy’s woman. He made her, got her into the life. She’ll always be what she is. You can’t change her.” Red heard him, but he had not had a steady girl since he had been in New York, had not had steady pussy. The only pussy he got was when Swazy allowed him to participate in the orgies. Swazy made some of the ladies give him head so he went along. Like most guys, he would have loved to have had a woman by himself, but he was in a different world ruled by Swazy. He got high often like the ladies, and freaked off when he was allowed. He did, however, sometimes screw his wife alone, but not often; it was mostly a group activity. Leslie had grown to love that life and there was nothing anybody could do to change her. Nobody tried. Everybody was satisfied.

Red had an uncle who worked at NBC television. Most of the other guys didn’t know about him. Red never brought him around nor let on when he was visiting him. His uncle noticed that Red was on the wrong path and offered to get him a job at NBC. Red had had some training in electrical work and was good with his hands. He would be able to stop dealing drugs and lead a normal life. So, he took him up on the offer to become more independent from Swazy and the “Life.”

Now he would be able to earn clean money, pay taxes and build a future and not think about going to jail. For the first time in several years, he got up early and took the subway to work. Of course, Leslie didn’t work, which gave her more time to continue to enjoy her preferred activities. Since she was Swazy’s creation and he really liked her, as much as he could like any woman, he gave her money and coke and she continue to party. By this time, she didn’t just do it for Swazy; she liked eating pussy and getting her pussy eaten by ladies. What a life she was living. She had not had a job since she met Swazy at seventeen years old.

Red was earning good money, not the kind he was making working for Swazy and Bob and selling his own coke, but more than the average guy without a college degree. He began saving his money and thinking about changing his life. After he had saved a few thousand, he decided he wanted to get out of New York City and take Leslie away from that life. Bob was holding ten thousand for him, and he decided to buy a house upstate New York. Since he had a legitimate job and taxable earnings, he could apply for a loan to buy a small house not too far from the city so he could still commute. He still needed a little more for the down payment, and enough to get started in a new life. And he had another small problem; he loved coke, more than any of the other guys. Not one of the other guys used coke other than for recreation, mostly on the week-ends or at parties. Coy loved it, but not as much, and now he was out of the game. Red told Swazy about his desires and plans. Swazy always liked Red, who was honest, loyal and dependable, so he gave him ten thousand to pay down on the house. Leslie was not crazy about the idea, but she could always do what Red was going to do; she could commute to the city and wait for Red at Swazy’s. Or, she could wait at Francis’ apartment and go home together. Since they were married, and Swazy told her to do it, she went along with the plan. She had never lived in a house, and Red had found a cute one with two bedrooms and one bath. Red got all of his horses lined up and left the city. It was a big move. They both loved the city, the conveniences and what it had to offer, but now, they were embarking on a new life.

Roy Butler was still with Phyllis and still rolling in money. No matter what was happening around him, his business was good. He continued to use the garage, which was a profitable business in itself, to continue buying and selling stolen goods. The thieves would park the trucks in his garage. He did not do it for the money it generated, he was already very rich, but for the joy of buying hot TV’s and clothes to sell to his buddies or their women, and to use some of the goods himself to get new ladies. He would call all of his buddies, mostly drug dealers, to let them know to come by. He sold them just for enough to recoup his investment. Phyllis always got the first picks. Roy and his partner, Joe did something that most hustlers and dealers never did, they bought property. They owned four buildings on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. Mostly older Jewish people lived in them. This was a wise investment, plus the garage; and Joe owned a barber shop where he cut hair every day. Of course, the garage, and the barber shop were fronts for their drug dealing. Even though Roy had legitimate businesses, he still bought a new Cadillac every September, in cash. He still had the hustlers’ mentality. He still bought expensive jewelry to flaunt, but mostly from junkies. He paid cash for his mink coat, and the one he bought for Phyllis was from a junkie.

At first, Phyllis was not so amenable to Roy screwing other women, so he kept most of it out of her sight. She knew it was going on, but as long as she didn’t see it and he continue to buy her stuff and to give her a few thousand dollars each week, she would turn her head and pretend not to know as long as she felt that she was number one. Sometime later, things changed. Roy bought a house across the George Washington Bridge in Teaneck, New Jersey and Phyllis moved over there with him. He bought her a sport’s Mercedes, 230SL. She was living the life. Roy came to the garage every day and he still kept an apartment in the same building where he could bring his other women. Phyllis cared even less now that she lived in the “Big House.”

Bob had somewhat distanced himself from a lot of the activities of Swazy, Roy and the others. He was very involved in the music industry. His group, The Persuaders, had a million-seller record, “It’s A thin Line Between Love and Hate.” He was mingling with executives. He was treated equally because he had money. Everyone knew his money came from illegal sources, but no one cared. He was rich. That was the most important thing. His main lady, Alexandra had graduated from college and was now living in New York City in an apartment paid for by Bob. Still, like William, he wasn’t going to let one lady break up his lifestyle. Lauren was now living with him, and he had the other three ladies in apartments far from his and he never brought them there or allowed them to come to visit him. He kept everything in its place. He told them he didn’t want people to know where he lived because of his business. That was the reason they could not visit him, although that was a legitimate concern. After all, he was a drug dealer. He gave Alexandra twenty-five thousand dollars, bought her a car and told her to use the rest to pay her rent. He got her an apartment all the way downtown on West 15th Street, far from his residence in Fort Lee, New Jersey. He kept Mata, a beautiful Puerto Rican girl, in another apartment. She was living so much better than she had ever lived and didn’t care what else he did or with whom he spent his time. The other one, Patricia, was a tall black girl with long black hair who had lived in Brooklyn with her single mother. She was happy as well.

At a party, William asked Bob, “How can you service so many women, plus the ones on the side?”

“Listen home-boy, I get in bed and tell them if they can get it up, they can have it.”

Bob told Lauren, “I’m not going to give you money to lie around and do nothing with your life like Swazy does with your sister. You’re a smart girl with a high school diploma. You need to go to college and I’ll pay for that.” So, Lauren enrolled in City College, which was practically free so Bob didn’t have to pay much. Since they were living in New Jersey and she had eight o’clock classes, she had to take the bus across the George Washington Bridge, then take the subway to City College. It was difficult but she was young and for the first time in her life, she was dedicated to something constructive. Bob kept that arrangement for almost three years until Lauren was a junior in college. This was the longest Lauren had stayed with any endeavor or any man. Bob was proud of her.

Of all the women Bob had screwed in New York City, Lauren was the best, and she was also great to be around. She was smart and fun. He felt he could live like that forever. But as some women do, to keep a relationship or sometimes to move it to the next level, Alexandra got pregnant. As great as Lauren was, and although she was living with him, Alexandra was the innocent one. He had dated her from college. He knew she hadn’t slept around, and if he was going to be more committed to any one of them, it was going to be Alexandra, plus she was going to have his baby. He knew that suggesting an abortion to her was out of the question. Lauren knew about Alexandra since Bob used to go down to the college to visit her. She had heard all about her but since she was living with Bob and didn’t know or care where Alexandra was staying or how often Bob saw her, she said very little. But once she found out that Alexandra was pregnant, she tried to get pregnant but she had a medical condition that wouldn’t allow her to get pregnant. “I want you to leave her,” Lauren said. Give her some money! Pay for the baby but I want you to leave her!” Lauren knew that Alexandra was the real threat. The other girls were just pussy, but she knew that Alexandra was special and she tried to eliminate the threat. “I can’t do that and you know I can’t,” said Bob.

“If you don’t leave her, I’m leaving you!” She didn’t waste any bullets. She took her best shot right away. She knew how pleased he was with her. She knew how much he enjoyed screwing her. After all, she was the one who had been living with him for three years, not Alexandra. But still, Alexandra was the threat. Bob tried to calm her down. “We can go on like we are right now,” said Bob.

“But one day, she’ll want to move in with you and where will that leave me? responded Lauren,

“We’ll have to wait and see.”

“Tell me you’ll leave her and I’ll stay. If not, I’m leaving!”

“I don’t want you to leave, but I can’t tell you that,” said Bob. He really didn’t think she would leave him. She was in college, didn’t have to work, and got all the things she wanted for a good life. Who would leave that out of jealousy? Lauren started gathering her clothes and took out a suitcase from the closet. Bob just stood there still thinking that she was going to change her mind. But it was becoming clear that she was leaving. She hurriedly packed and said, “Whatever I leave behind, you can give to her.” He still didn’t think she was going to leave.

“Where are you going, Lauren? It’s rough out there!”

“Don’t worry about me, just worry about her. I’ll be fine!”

“I hope you don’t drop out of school. You’re so close to graduating.”

  “I’ll be just fine!”

“Do you want me to drive you to the city?” he said, still waiting for her to back out of her threat. “Save your gas to pick her up. I’ll take the train, as usual. And let me tell you this,” she paused and said firmly, “You’ll never find another woman like me!” That hit Bob hard because for a moment, he believed she was right. He certainly hoped she was not right. He also hoped she would change her mind after she cooled down. He didn’t believe she would leave forever. He believed she would realize how lucky she was, miss that good life, and come back after she had cooled off.

When she realized the suitcase was a little heavy and the subway stop was several blocks, she called a cab, but instead of waiting inside, she stood out in front of the building until the cab came. Living with Bob was the best thing that had happened to her since she left home at eighteen years old. She had a stable relationship, as stable as she had ever had. Sure, there were other women, but she was living with him and benefiting the most. Best of all, he had put her on the path to a better life where she could get a good paying job, and not have to live off of men for the first time. He was good to her. He treated her with respect. He didn’t ask or allow her to screw his friends or his other girlfriends, like Swazy did to her sister, Susan. Her insecurities and jealousy, which she never showed before, even with Coy, caused her to give up the best situation she ever had.

Lauren told her mother she wanted to come home and her mother was happy to hear it. She spent the night at home and the next morning, Lauren’s mom called Bob and said they wanted to pick up Lauren’s belongings, mostly clothes. Lauren, her mother and a neighbor drove over to New Jersey and picked up Lauren’s belongings.

  CHAPTER 60

Sid had done his four years and was out of prison. After he got out, Gerry told him she wanted him to stay with her. She had visited him most of his four years, only tapering off the last year. She still had the good job at the Playboy club earning good money. She could now afford her own apartment. He had only a few hundred dollars in his pocket when he showed up, but Gerry thought he had a lot of money put away. They resumed their relationship. Gerry really enjoyed having sex with him. Now, she was getting a regular screwing and companionship. While Sid was gone, she had been a part of Swazy’s stable; one of his orgy buddies. She liked coke like the rest of the ladies and Swazy discovered that she liked to have here pussy eaten by the pretty ladies in the group. She also liked eating pussy. As big a freak as she was, Sid didn’t know this. Had he known, he probably would have put her and her best friend Carol together. He had only freaked her off with Coy, and that ended before Coy went away.

After Sid was back for a month, Gerry was looking for Sid to bring out some money from that stash she knew he had. There was this wonderful dining room set in a store window that Gerry desperately wanted. Every day she and Sid passed that store. Gerry threw hints like, “I would love to have this in my dining room.”

She threw hints for a long time. Eventually, she came out and asked him to buy it for her. He told her he had no money; only the occasionally money he got from Bob and Swazy. All the time he was living with Coy in that fabulous apartment, he had coke, wore nice clothes and drove Coy’s Cadillac. What she didn’t know was that Coy was the provider. Coy sold coke and Sid helped, but it was Coy’s coke. When Coy got a hot check to cash, he would give Sid a small piece. Sid just rode shot gun. It soon became clear to her that he had no money. Gerry had gotten used to large amounts of money by being one of Swazy’s harem, all of the time Sid was in prison, which Sid didn’t know. Swazy supplied her with coke and money, just as he did with several others. She had begun to enjoy the parties and orgies like the others, especially the benefits. These women were truly liberated. When she needed money for a particular reason, Swazy would just give her two, three and sometimes as much as five thousand dollars. She thought Sid would provide her with that life without Swazy. She was wrong. When Sid told her he had no money, she told him to leave. The good sex she was getting from him was not enough. Sid didn’t protest; he calmly packed and left.

Bob was living in New Jersey, but he still maintained the apartment on Bennett Avenue, so he allowed Sid to stay there for a while. Bob never really liked Sid. “He is so vain, always looking in the mirror and combing his hair. He’s lazy and a fuck-up, and he’s never had his own apartment.”

After a month, Bob gave him a thousand dollars and told him to move. Sid contacted Marlene with whom he had a long-time relationship. He knew her several years before he met Gerry. Marlene had been one of his women whom he could always screw. No matter what he did, or how many others he had, when he wanted to see her, to have sex with her, she always said yes. She had amassed a few hundred thousand dollars working for and screwing Roy. She took care of a lot of his business, but she was never implicated or arrested. She gave Sid some money and allowed him to stay with her for a while, but he couldn’t stay too long because he would be interfering with her life. She loved screwing him, but not living with him.

While he was staying with Marlene, he met, screwed and charmed another lady, Candy Richardson, whom he had recently met. She lived in Queens and he moved out there with her. She had a good friend who was in the numbers racket. She asked her friend to give Sid a job. Sid got a job as a pick- up man and delivered money. He began to make good money for the first time since he rode shot gun for Coy. He bought a used car, the first car he had ever owned. Sid had never owned anything except his clothes. He was doing better than he ever had.
