Jabari reached for it, the area code was local, so he wasn’t too far away. “Okay, thanks.” Jabari looked over at the kitchen and peeped the Mexican headed their way, he pointed to him.

Mrs. Davis looked over her shoulder smiling. “Is it finished, Jose?”

He mean-mugged the fuck out of Jabari and said, “No, Mrs. Davis, ma’am. I need to look at the plumbing.” He glanced at the stairway leading to the bedroom. “Upstairs?” He asked tugging at his tool belt.

She turned Jabari’s way and grinned. Oh...the plumbing, that’s right.” She started straightening up her hair. “Yeah... that sound about, right. Make sure you bring the right...uh, pipe!”

“Oh...I have just the right size...” He shot back with his mouth fixed into a sly smirk.

Jabari had, had enough of the bullshit game they were playing. It was making him sick to his stomach. “Okay, look...” he got up. “...I’ll page him and uh, see what’s up.”

Mrs. Davis got up and walked Jabari to the door. She hugged him again as she opened it, squeezing his ass. “Next time come by earlier.” She whispered into his ear.

Jabari laughed it off and looked over her shoulder at the dumb faced Mexican standing behind them. “Will you be alright here by yourself?”

“Trust me, these guys service the whole goddamned neighborhood. You know what I mean? After they leave here...they have another job. Isn’t that right, Jose?”

Jabari knew exactly what Mrs. Davis meant, but he played along with it. “Another job? Damn, they stay busy.”

“At some other’s whore’s house,” she remarked then pushed Jabari out the door softly and blew him a kiss.

“I’ll call you back later, anyway, a’ight,” Jabari said.

  “Alright, Jabari, love you!”

  “I love you, too!”

The door closed and Jabari walked to the car looking back at the window and got a glimpse of Jose bending over her as she sat back down. She eased back in the chair with her eyes closed and Jose had disappeared out of view, probably on his knees, Jabari figured. Jabari looked at the number in his hand, he needed to head into town and find a phone to call Double D. He had to find out what the hell he was up to and where he was at. He definitely couldn’t go back to Charleston, not right now, at least until he got in touch with Dondi again after a couple of days and found out what was happening.

  ****

Hulie stepped out on the porch of the two-story walk-up on the north side of North Charleston called the Height. Walking over to the side of the house, he glanced over at his bike, the Suzuki, the beast. It had been a minute since he rode it. He didn’t have no real loot on the streets just little odds and ends, enough to keep his face out there. He thought about doing some pickups later, perhaps, but he needed to get up with Diplite. So, he could find out what was going on in Liberty Hill. Besides, he needed to find out about T-Black’s mom and whether it was true that she was still alive or not.

He chatted with some hustlas walking to the poolroom and they asked him if he wanted to hang out. He needed some rest, he was stressing and had been worrying a lot lately. Sunshine was fucking with his head. His cell phone went off on his hip and he twitched a little then checked the screen. It was Sunshine...again. He ignored it and it vibrated once more. He tried to pay it no mind, but it was just too damn persistent.

“Fuck it,” he said answering the phone trying not to go ham. “Didn’t I tell you, I’d get in touch with you later?” The voice was silent on the other end. “Yo’ speak the fuck up!”

  “What did I do?”

He jerked the phone away from his ear and grimaced. “Damn!” He needed a break, it wasn’t Sunshine it was Cleo. “Oh, sorry ‘bout that babe.”

“You alright? I haven’t seen you in a while...a good, long while!” Cleo was Hulie’s main hoe on the side.

She tricked on the block where his traps were set up. She steered clientele and kept her ears to the streets. Letting him know if there was any other rock blockers out there or even if somebody was trying to tread on his zone.

  “Been a minute,” he said.

“You think? You can come pick me up, we can spend some time together?” Cleo paused, hoping he’d say yes.

Hulie had a quick temper and he’d spaz in a heartbeat. She also had some money for him and some information she thought he’d be interested in. Anyway, you put it, she just wanted to be with him. Even though he was rough with her, he was her type of man. A thuggish, ruggish ball. She’d do anything for him, even trick. Her brother Diplite hated it, but he didn’t have a say-so in the matter. All he really wanted to do was pimp her out anyway and make money off her himself. He wanted her to keep the money in the family, all while rubbing his hand on her ass. He was one sick muthafucka.

“I’m over at the Pink Panther...if you want to see me. Oh, yeah, I got some money for you, too!” She wanted to sweeten up the pot.

Hulie smirked, all she was doing was paying for his service, he really didn’t need the money she offered, maybe the info, but definitely not the money. It was chump change in comparison to the bread he made off the streets, but nevertheless, he took it anyway. He respected her grind, most times he’d let her buy an outfit or two from the mall, get dressed up and go out to eat somewhere, then maybe they’d go to the club. Cleo was a good-looking chick, and she was classy too. Having her on his arm made him look good, so she was like a main squeeze of sorts. She didn’t want nothing of him, but his time and he was cool with that.

“A’ight, let me get changed and I’ll meet you over there...bout half an hour,” Hulie said.

“Cool, I’ll see you then,” she said and hung up.

Hulie walked into the house and peeped in his closet, moving around clothes on the rack. He checked out a Roca-Wear linen, casual outfit and laid it on the bed, feeling good. He walked back out the door and peeped out, then locked it and dipped into the bathroom and started running the shower. He got undressed and just before he stepped in, he heard someone knocking on the door real hard.

“Damn,” he said under his breath. “Hope it ain’t fuckin’ ball.” He grabbed a bathrobe and slipped it on then peeped out the side window. He didn’t see no one so he glanced out in the street and saw the car, the all-white, red interior, Beamer and knew exactly who it was. He marched to the door, pissed off and swung it wide open. “Sunshine, what the fuck you want?”

She stood her bowlegged ass in the doorway, looking fabulous as ever, wearing a full length, silk, trench coat that showed off her vivacious curves, then popped open the one button that held it closed and it swayed open against the breeze that raced through the doorway. Underneath was a red, laced push-up bra and a matching thong. This held Hulie’s attention like a muthafucka and his knees buckled.

She smiled. “Just thought I’d stop by.”

Hulie back up slightly, focusing on the dime-piece that stood in front of him. She was fine as all fucking outdoors, but also the snake that would eventually bite him in the ass. He frowned up at the thought.

“Girl, what the hell you want?” he asked.

She pulled open her coat and struck a more provocative pose, showing that ass. “No, it’s more like, what the hell do you want?”

  “I don’t want shit, I told you, I’d call you later, didn’t I?”

She giggled as she peered down at his robe. His dick had gotten hard as a rock and came out of hiding behind his robe. “I can’t tell.” She brushed past him.

Hulie looked out the door to see if anyone was looking, then slammed it shut. “I told you never to come here. Muthafuckas might think I’m snitchin’ and shit.” He closed the curtains and blinds then turned towards her, she was right up on him in his face.

He could smell the rose scented perfume she wore, and it hypnotized him for a brief moment. She brushed her long locks of hair over her shoulders and pushed closer to his body.

“You mean...you really want me to go?” She teased.

Hulie’s dick was just about to take control of the situation, but he had to pull it together and tighten up quick. He put his hands in front of him and pushed her gently away from him.

“C’mon, now, I got somewhere to go,” he said.

She started a mock striptease as she took off her coat and tossed it on the sofa beside him then walked towards his bedroom door. “Yeah, right here in this room!”

It took all he had to say no cause he really wanted the pussy bad like a muthafucka. He walked over to her slowly, his dick tripping him up and grabbed her by the arm, roughly this time. He led her to the sofa and threw her down.

She smiled. “Oh, you want it rough? I’m down!”

Hulie shook his head, she just wouldn’t let up and plopped down on a chair across from her. “Look, we need to talk.”

She straightened herself up after hearing the seriousness of the tone of his voice. “Talk...talk about what? We can talk later, I want some dick, Hulie!” Her mouth pouted up and she crossed her arms like a spoiled brat, the reached forward and caressed his still exposed dick.

He pushed her hand away. “Damn, Sunshine, not today...I’m busy and tired. I need to chill for a minute and figure some things out.”

Sunshine grabbed her jacket and tossed it over her already crossed legs, the propped herself up, all the while sucking her teeth. “Okay, then, let’s talk. Matter of fact let’s talk about this. Where’s my fuckin’ money, nigga!”

“Damn, girl...you ain’t gotta say it like that!”

“You wanted to talk.” She tossed the coat to the side and spread open her legs in front of his face. Her red pubic hairs did little to hide the fat, juicy pussy she flashed. “Since you don’t want none of this. Then yeah, where’s my fuckin’ money?”

Hulie sighed then leaned toward her. “It’s like this, I went to the spot like you told me to, where that dude Moonie had his stash. When I got there, there was somebody else waiting for him.”

“I need to write this shit down or what?” she said, matter of factly.

“Naw, this dude was a hustla from his side of town, but he wasn’t a major playa, just a hustla. He did his own thing to come up, know what I mean. Robberies, stuck ups...extortion, bullshit like that.” Hulie sighed again then paused as she started digging for her cigarettes. “Anyway, he told me that the muthafucka owed him some money.”

“Hold up,” she said as she lit her cigarette. Focusing her train of thought on him, she propped herself against the arm of the chair, straightened herself up then reached for the ashtray on the small, round, wooden coffee table. “Okay...so what are you saying?”

Hulie looked off toward the window after she glared her piercing jet-black eyes into his face. He quickly turned back knowing she would be checking out his every move, his every twitch. That was the interrogator in her, looking for his lie, studying him.

“He said there wasn’t any money there and I needed to come back later and get it from Moonie.”

“Whoa!” She found the kink and was ready to exploit it. “But my detectives...said, they found some money. Why didn’t he take that...or better yet, why didn’t you get it yourself?”

Hulie wasn’t slow, but he wasn’t as quick as her either. Usually, he’d have her playing on his own court, with his dick in her, but now he was trying to tell the lie straight up and it wasn’t working for him at all.

“I didn’t see anything,” he lied.

Sunshine giggled, she knew he was lying but she still wanted to know where the money had gone. She had a good idea he’d taken it, but she didn’t want to actually accuse him without real proof, which she really didn’t need much of. Besides she liked him, it was a sentimental type of thing. Hulie was her very first case, she’d just gotten out of law school and landed a good job in the DA’s office based on her high-test scores on the bar, but mostly because she sucked the right dicks.

Hulie had gotten busted on a violation, for a domestic issue, it was enough to send his ass away on a third strike. She schemed up a plan to get him bail and have the charges reduced to disorderly conduct, but only after she had some people put the tim down on the girl involved, then invited Hulie over to her place. She’d heard about his notoriety in the streets and she told him about a sure-fire plan to finesse dope boys out of their money, legally. Deep down she wanted to make them pay for all the years they laughed at her albino skin, eyes and hair. For all the years they made fun of her nerd ass, she’d make them all pay now.

Most just like Hulie would come back and forth in front of the judge, pay crazy money to lawyers that didn’t give a fuck and he’d serve them with twenty-five and thirty elbows. She had a better plan, a plan she put together with some nerd buddies that had become cops and was tired of the same shit...making no money. She couldn’t stop the repetition and she didn’t care too. She wasn’t a politician but giving them all that time would still at the end of the day stop nothing. They would just be replaced with someone else. She thought that maybe if she could keep them on the streets long enough, then they could make money for her, she could make them pay her to eat and live. She greased a lot of hands and with the money she made, wiggled from being an assistant district attorney to become the DA in a very short amount of time.

It was sweet, but she had one thing she couldn’t stay away from and that was the streets. She needed credibility, that’s what she missed. Being that fine, ass chick everyone wanted that chick that would come into the courtroom and turn heads. The chick that would come up on visits in sexy, tight ass minis and get all the attention she always longed for. She put Hulie in on the plan and he bit. It didn’t take much convincing because the one thing she did have was, blazing ass pussy.

Hulie figured he’d cut the competition out anyway, after all, he had an inside and reduced profit margin on the street to his favor. But now, Hulie was trying to work her, trying to flam her and she knew it, she also knew that it would only be a matter of time before she’d have to feed him to the wolves. Then pick up some fresh meat and some young dick.

“Man, look, Sunshine, I tried to meet with Moonie and get the money, but when I got there, he wasn’t there, and that same guy started tripping.” He started to ramble and tried to retrace his words and it wasn’t working.

She sat in front of him not saying a word but taking it all in as she blew smoke rings in his face. “Uh huh...”

  “I...I...I didn’t shoot him.”

  “Really, well who did?”

  “That dude on the TV...Jabari!”

The name was familiar to her, but she couldn’t quite place it. “Jabari...Jabari!” Then she put her hand to her mouth. “Ooohhh...shit!” She had it. “Muthafuckin’ Tangie’s brother! Oh, hell yeah.”

Hulie looked at her curiously trying to figure out if he’d said the right or wrong thing. “Yeah...that’s right.” He didn’t have a clue that she knew Tangie.

Her mind started spinning around the whole thing, putting together the plan to finally get rid of Tangie’s ass. “So...he killed him, huh?”

  “Yeah!”

  “You willing to...uh...testify?”

  “C’mon now...you know I ain’t no snit...”

She reached over swiftly and grabbed him by the mouth. “Look, muthafucka, it’s either you or him and remember...you’re the one with the fuckin’ strike!” She let him go.

“Damn,” Hulie said as he brushed her hand away from his face. Could it get any worse?

His thoughts were interrupted abruptly by a knocking on the door. He wasn’t expecting anyone and slowly eased his way towards a closet set across the opposite end of the den. Thinking maybe it might have been jack-boys. He eased in, reached into a cubby hole inside the wall and pulled out a snub-nosed .38 special, then motioned for Sunshine to move slowly towards the bedroom. She picked up her coat, reached into the pocket and pulled out a shiny, silver .380.

Hulie gawked. “What the fuck you doing with that?”

Sunshine glanced his way and giggled. “You dumb muthafucka, I’m a goddamned D fuckin’ A. I can do this!” She looked at the gun in his hand and the closet he stepped out of. “What the fuck you doing with that? I’m telling you, Hulie, don’t let me have to have my people come over here and go through this muthafuckin’ cave with a fine-toothed comb.” He knew she wasn’t bullshitting and said nothing. She peeped back at the closet door then added. “And you better not be holding out on me, either.”

The knocking got more intense until finally, they heard someone shout. “Hulie, I know you in there! I hear some bitch up in there, too! She better be trying to run out the back...” It was Cleo.

Hulie sighed and tucked the gun in his robe pocket, then rushed to the window and looked out. Sure enough, standing on the porch wearing a white and red, mini skirt jacket outfit and stilettos was Cleo, all five-foot-seven inches of pure fineness. She bent over to take off her shoes and stepped back tying her long, dark, wavy, silky hair into a ponytail.

“I’ma kick that ass, Hulie, I’m tired of this shit.” She threatened.

Hulie walked to the door and opened it only after Sunshine had put on her coat and after some prodding fasten three buttons. He opened the door and Cleo busted through straight into the path of Sunshine, who was standing there with a smirk on her face.

“Who’s this bitch, Hulie?” Cleo barked.

Sunshine cocked her hip to the side and glanced over at Hulie. “You need to teach your hoe some manners...before I do!” Sunshine giggled.

Cleo charged at her, with her nails out, gritting her teeth. Sunshine sidestepped her easily and kicked her in the ass going by. Cleo fell up against the wall and Sunshine turned around standing over her.

“Hulie, I’m telling you, you better talk to her. It’s going to get ugly in here if you don’t.” Sunshine said matter of factly.

Hulie stepped in between them before Cleo bounced back up onto her feet and lunged at Sunshine. Hulie grabbed her and yelled at Sunshine. “Just get the fuck outta here...now!”

Sunshine mean-mugged Cleo then unbuttoned her coat and swung it open. “Bitch, this is what your man really wants...believe that!”
