“You are all right,” he gasped, clinging to the sides of him. He was so blinded by relief, he didn’t even notice the stunned vampire sitting just behind. “You are here.”
Eden hovered there in bewilderment, his feet dangling off the ground. “Of course I am all right, why would you...?”
But he trailed away before he could finished the question, understanding in the same moment what had sent his friend to fright. The last time anyone had seen him, it had been on the deck of Lissiana’s ship. A pool of blood gathering beneath him, an arrow sticking from his chest.
His eyes widened in realization, then softened at the same time.
“I am all right,” he said again, gentle this time. When his friend was incapable of releasing him, he merely changed his balance, touching his feet to the floor. “Cio, I am sorry. Much aid was given me on the ship. My father should have sent word to the council—”
“Your father,” the fae said sharply, pulling back in surprise. “Your father has resigned from the council. He has forfeited all titles and left these shores behind.”
He paused a moment, like he wasn’t sure quite how to say it. “Eden...he thinks you are dead.”
