part #5 of Forbidden Series
As for my schooling, well I didn’t want to go back to school. I wanted to work. So, that’s what I did. I worked in a couple of trades, but I also did some art too. For the first time in forever, I felt free.
Caleb still went to school. He told me that while it was because of his dad, he wanted to finish his business degree. After that, Caleb ran his own business, a successful coffee shop in town. He was happy, and I was pretty happy too.
For the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel like people were breathing down my back. My mom was in England, and she told me that the mercenary field was always looking for new recruits. But of course, I told her I couldn’t go off and do that yet.
After about a year, Caleb and I finally got married. The wedding was small, but of course, his dad and my mom came. Zephyr was also one of the few people standing in my wedding, and as for Caleb, he did have one of the former MC members actually stand as his best man.
When Caleb and I looked at one another, after the priest told us to say our I-dos, I felt happy. I felt like I could finally live a normal life. When the ceremony was over, when we finally kissed, it felt like a whole new world.
That night, Caleb and I spent a lot of time together, time that neither of us expected to share. I felt happy, whole, and most of all ready for whatever the future held in store for me. I realized at this moment; everything would be all right.
“We did it,” Caleb said.
“We sure did,” I replied.
As we kissed, I felt an aching happiness within. My mom said she was proud of me, and she told me this is what I needed. I did feel that.
I still sometimes regret what I did, and I know that Caleb did too, but we were able to put the past behind us. We had our own home, our own happiness, our own life. It felt like the whole MC mess was a long-forgotten nightmare and something that neither of us had to worry about anymore. There was something almost…relieving about this, something that made me shiver with delight as I thought about it. I was happy, satisfied, and ready for more, and I’m sure that, with the way things were, it would only get better. I had a feeling that, even if times got tough, we would make it together. Neither of us were perfect, but we had one another, and that’s what mattered.
