  He looked at Polly. “Did we really see him?” he asked her.

  “Yes,” she replied. “I think he was saying that he’s ok, that he misses us but there was nothing sinister in his death, just an accident.”

  “Do you think so?” he said. Looking once more Alexander had gone completely and all that remained in the picture was the poster ad for Peroni, the two old men and the backside of the dog.

  “Every time I look at this photograph I shall think of Alexander” he said, taking the photograph and putting it onto the kitchen fridge.

  Maybe this one would stay here and not be used for the exhibition after all.
