“Have you heard back from Major Bell’s handlers?” Kruger asked.

“Yes. They are more than impressed and have asked if we would be interested in the possibility of contracting in the future. Advisory missions mainly. I told them that we would keep the lines of communication open but that is all.”

No one on the team had any interest in business. Their facial expressions told Hadley that this wasn’t a time for discussion of returning to the Congo any time soon. After returning to the KR compound and waiting for their flights out of Kolwezi, Kruger had drawn up an after action report as was required by SLEW for record keeping purposes. He pulled it out of his backpack and laid it on the desk.

“Everything you need to know about the mission, the men involved and my thoughts are in the report.”

“Well done, Willem. If any of you want to stick around in Dallas for some R&R, I will make suites at the Hilton available for you. Room service is on me. One thing I will need from all of you is your location at all times. Colin, if you need a sat phone, I’ve got one you can have. Tracking you down in Bali was pure luck. Please check in at least once a week. Preferably, whenever you are not at your primary residence. Other than that, you are free to go.”

Willem turned off of the blacktop road and onto gravel. 2.3 miles off Double J Highway to go. The last two weeks seemed like a dream to him when the house came into sight. He felt a joyous jolt of reality as he turned into the driveway. The lights were still on. He pulled his truck up to the detached butler building he used for his gunsmithing and anything mechanical that needed to be fixed. The tractor sat in front of one of the garage doors. That meant something was broke. No doubt, his son had done something to it. He smiled anyway. He was home.
