  About Alien CEO Needs a Nanny

  This CEO is about to learn that you can’t balance the book of love.

  * * *

  Dorann Staark is a powerful man who runs the biggest business empire on the planet. Days in the office blend into nights as he does what he’s best at - calculating profit and making acquisitions. It’s a cutthroat game, and it doesn’t leave time for anything that doesn’t affect the bottom line, like romance.

  * * *

  When Dorann decides it’s time to become a father, he naturally chooses the most successful surrogate agency in the galaxy. But for once, his calculations don’t add up. From the very first moment he holds baby Nico is in his arms, Dorann is overwhelmed with brand-new feelings that leave him questioning everything.

  * * *

  Mila Jensen has always counted herself lucky. But when her parents’ livestock farm on Terra-11 is sabotaged, she has no choice but to find work off-planet. And a nanny job seems like the perfect fit. After all, she’s bottle-fed orphaned field-vakka, how different can babysitting be?

  * * *

  But Mila doesn’t anticipate her employer’s wild mood swings, or the deep current of attraction and sympathy she will feel for him, in spite of his unimaginable wealth.

  * * *

  Dorann is shocked by Mila’s unorthodox approach to childcare. But Nico adores the cheerful young Terran, and that’s all that matters. The real issue is that Dorann is finding it harder and harder to keep his eyes, and hands, off the one woman he can’t have.

  * * *

  Can Mila help Dorann see past the numbers to find what’s really worth investing in? If he wants a future with her, he needs to be willing to risk it all.

  * * *

  Because when it comes to the game of love – close doesn’t count.

  If you like strong women, hunky aliens, wild adventures, steamy sensual scenes, and happily-ever-afters, then you’ll love the world of Alien Nanny Agency.

  Mila

  Mila Jensen was heading off for a tea break with the other nannies-in-training when a hand grabbed her shoulder, jerking her unceremoniously back into the session room.

  “Miss Jensen,” the owner of the hand said in a gruff, male tone. “Come with me.”

  She managed to hold in a gasp of surprise, and turned to see the big, hairy form of Lazord, the personal assistant to Madam Bank. Madam Bank ran the nanny agency, and all the girls in training were a little afraid of her.

  Lazord, on the other hand, was normally the sweetest, gentlest soul. But there was panic in the big Bergalian’s eyes this afternoon.

  “You scared me half to death,” she scolded lightly.

  “You have to come with me,” he repeated, his deep voice pitched slightly higher than usual. “Madam Bank needs you up in her office, now.”

  “Of course,” Mila said, trying not to be too sad about missing her tea. “Let me grab my bag.”

  He frowned, as if he was uncertain whether he had two seconds to let her grab it from the bench.

  And that was when she started to feel anxious herself.

  She swiped the bag off the bench and marched with him toward the chutes to the management floors.

  The main level of the training center was made up mostly of large, open spaces that mimicked parks and homes. There was even a medical station where the trainees could take turns learning first aid and resuscitation techniques for various intergalactic species.

  Mila knew where the offices were, of course, but she had never been there. As far as she knew, no one had.

  Madam Bank came down twice each day to take a brisk, in-person tour of the training grounds, and a live camera feed supplied her with everything else she needed to know about her trainees.

  Whatever happened upstairs stayed upstairs.

  Lazord indicated the open express chute to Mila.

  She sucked in a deep breath and prayed to the gods to stop her from screaming for the second time in two minutes.

  Back on Terra-11, her family had been extraordinarily fortunate to run a successful farm for most of her life. While she had been one of the lucky few there who never had to go hungry, things like elevator chutes were new for her.

  And though she loved many of the luxurious contraptions here in the city, the speed of the open express chutes still made her want to vomit.

  To her intense relief, Lazord hopped on with her.

  But the relief was short-lived as somewhere in the back of her mind, the emergency level rose.

  Lazord would never choose to be smushed with her in a chute if he thought waiting for his own was an option. Bergalians liked their space.

  Lazord scanned his bracelet and the disc they stood on shot into the air as if it were spring-loaded.

  Mila, too terrified to scream, clung shamelessly to Lazord’s furry arms.

  “You okay?” he asked when the thing lurched to a horrible stop.

  Please don’t throw up. Please don’t throw up, she pleaded inwardly.

  “Please don’t throw up,” Lazord said out loud. “We literally don’t have time.”

  She buttoned her lips and shook her head, hoping that if she decided she wasn’t going to, she wouldn’t.

  Instead, she tried to focus on her surroundings. She was sure the girls on the training floor would want all the details.

  The office level was as beautiful as the rumors hinted. Smooth, polished composite floors and elegant minimalist furnishings brought out the high ceilings and the natural light.

  Lazord swept her past two large desks. One was empty, the other held a familiar face.

  “Hi, Janice,” Mila called out as they half jogged past her.

  Janice waved and gave her a knowing little wink.

  Interesting.

  Janice handled calls from nannies in the field who needed help. She also stopped down once or twice a day to cheer on the new recruits.

  Janice had once been one of two phone reps.

  But there had been a lot of changes.

  Mila had gotten the scoop from some of the other trainees.

  Recently, all the highly experienced nannies the agency was known for had won the sector lotto. They’d had a pool going for years, apparently. But of course, no one ever expected them to actually win. What were the chances? The lotto pool was just another bonding thing, like their annual recipe contest and their monthly book club.

  B ut they had won big, and basically all quit en masse, leaving the agency to recruit and train replacement nannies as quickly as possible, desperate to uphold their upscale clientele and pristine reputation.

  Which basically meant the agency was now pulling in women from the Terran planets, most of which were poor and low-tech when compared to the rest of the galaxy. But they were desperate for work, and the agency was desperate for nannies. They were being trained at top speed. Even as they got used to everyday things like the express chutes and hover craft that most of them had never experienced.

  Even Janice’s partner on the phones, Emilia, had been pulled in from the field to work as a nanny herself during the first days after the lotto exodus.

  Although Emilia had been gone before Mila was recruited, everyone swore she was legendary on the help line, and Mila even knew a few stories about some of the new nannies she had helped.

  “Thank the stars,” Madam Bank cried out from the threshold of what promised to be a very luxurious office. “Come in, come in, quickly now.”

  Mila obligingly broke into a trot.

  Once she was in the office, Madam Bank closed the door behind them.

  “Place your hand on the glass to be scanned,” Madam Bank said briskly. “We’ll have to chat while they do the background check.”

  “I already had a background check, Madam,” Mila said politely as she looked around the opulent office. “It should be in my file.”

  “This client requires up to the minute files, and a deep dive background,” Madam Bank said.

  “Client?” Mila echoed, placing her palm on the glass.

  She was pretty sure the usually serene Madam Bank would literally explode if she didn’t get the scan started right away, but there had to be some mistake.

  Mila was still months of training away from being ready for a client.

  “We received an emergency call a few minutes ago from Sir Aynx,” Madam Banks said, tapping in the air above her bracelet in a way that told Mila she had paid for priority rush upload on the scan. “A nanny is needed immediately on Ulfgard.”

  “Ulfgard?” Mila echoed.

  “Do you know the story of Ulfgard?” Madam Bank asked gently.

  Mila nodded.

  Of course she did. Every schoolchild in the galaxy knew the story of Ulfgard.

  Not long ago, the dictatorial governance of The Armada had targeted Ulfgard’s home system, and began to orbit its smallest and least inhabited planet, Torgard.

  With attack imminent, all available soldiers in the system as well as most other able-bodied men volunteered to go to Torgard to fight off The Armada.

  And as soon as they were deployed, The Armada descended, but not on Torgard. Instead, they surprised everyone by attacking Nordholm, a small planet completely on the other side of the system.

  There was no time for the troops to change course. Nordholm stood completely unguarded and ripe for The Armada to pluck.

  And it was located right next to Ulfgard, the crown jewel of the system.

  Luckily, the women of Ulfgard, though not generally used in active duty, had all served in a mandatory, two-year army training program at the age of nineteen.

  They quickly organized themselves and deployed to Nordholm together.

  But the Armada had the advantage of defending their position from the cliffs, and a head start to set up a battery of blasters.

  Nearly all of the women were slaughtered on the beaches where they arrived.

  But they fought valiantly, and their sacrifice held the Armada off long enough for the rest of the system’s troops to regroup and mount a counterattack.

  Among the slaughtered bodies of their wives and sisters, the Ulfgardian soldiers fought for their homeworld and won the day. But everyone knew it was the women who were the real heroes.

  After the setback, The Armada cut its losses and moved on to find a more vulnerable system.

  And the Ulfgardians went home to face their tragedy on their home turf.

  The sudden, unexpected nature of the deaths of nearly every woman of childbearing age at once was a terrible burden for an otherwise fortunate planet, known for its diverse races and rich natural resources.

  And the story echoed throughout the galaxy as another example of the evil consequences of allowing The Armada to continue amassing systems unchecked.

  Just the thought of it made her blood run cold.

  “Then you know how important this work is,” Madam Bank said, snapping Mila out of her dark thoughts. “This client needs a highly empathetic nanny.”

  “But I’m not fully trained,” Mila said, feeling butterflies of nervous excitement flutter in her belly.

  It was true. She wasn’t fully trained, but she loved children, and was really looking forward to getting to work.

  “As it happens,” Madam Bank said. “No one on the grounds has completed their training. But everyone else is already on assignment. I’ve studied the dailies, and I think you’re the best recruit for the job.”

  “Why?” Mila asked. “I haven’t been here as long as some of the others.”

  “You display the qualities we need here,” Madam Bank told her, looking up from her bracelet at last. “Patience, kindness, and tolerance.”

  What was that supposed to mean? Didn’t all nannies need those qualities?

  “Is there… something I should know about the children?” Mila asked worriedly.

  “We’re not at liberty to divulge those kinds of details,” Madam Bank said firmly. “Only the parent can choose to share personal information. But I can tell you that the former nanny did not leave because of anything child-related.”

  She was probably just homesick, Mila told herself.

  She had missed the farm and her family herself when she first arrived at the training camp. But since there was no more farm, and her parents were in a helping-house until one of them could find work, or she could send funds, there was no going home, either.

  “I’ll do it,” she said simply.

  “‘Atta girl,” Madam Bank said, smiling for the first time since Mila had entered the room. “Your shuttle leaves in forty minutes. Pack your things.”

  “I… um,” Mila wavered.

  The truth was that she had hardly any things to pack, and certainly not the wardrobe she would need in the home of an Ulfgardian VIP.

  “You probably don’t have time to pack,” Madam Bank decided.

  She strode over to her desk and swept a hand through the air over the glass.

  “Yes, Madam Bank,” Janice said over the comms.

  “Miss Jensen needs a full wardrobe for Ulfgard,” Miss Bank said crisply. “And she needs to be on the shuttle in forty minutes.”

  “I’ll take her immediately,” Janice said.

  “Off you go,” Madam Bank said. “Do your best. Always be polite and kind. Make us look good. And don’t forget your handbook.”

  “Yes, Madam,” Mila said, dropping into a curtsy.

  Janice was in the room and dragging her away before she straightened up from her curtsy.

  “I’ll comm you the salary and sign-on details,” Madam Bank called after her. “You can read them on the shuttle. It’s a generous package.”
