Back in the late 1980s, I lived on an Amish farm in Lancaster County, PA. The family had an apartment over a mule shed that they rented out to people. It was one of the most special times in my life. I became a part of their extended family, going to picnics, making applesauce, enjoying dinner, and helping with the chores...all alongside these wonderful, kind people. Unbeknownst to me, I even courted one of their sons. Being unfamiliar with the courting process, I wasn't aware at the time that their son, Emanuel, had an interest in me. He hadn't taken his baptism yet and seemed to like hanging around with me. We'd sit on the front porch of my apartment and talk into the wee hours of the night. He'd take me for buggy rides, even letting me drive the horse. Whenever I arrived at the farm, Emanuel would show up at my doorstep, asking me to go for a walk or just to see how my day was. At some point, the family rented out the apartment to someone else while I was away. In hindsight, I know why. This book is about that experience. Of course, it's fiction and contains the "what if" scenario that I often thought about for many years. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it...and living it.

Throughout this series, we’ve watched the kinner of Jonas & Katie Lapp each become their own individual person. Although being the youngest has the drawbacks of feeling as though you are smothered by everyone’s opinions & demands, Samuel is no different in this book than his siblings in his decision as to which path to follow. His struggles are deep rooted and we find it began in his early childhood. Beginning also in that early childhood is the devotion from one of the Lapp’s neighbors, Mary Ruth. Mary Ruth has been a valued friend who stood up for him when no one else would. When no one else understood him. But, when tragedy strikes, will Mary Ruth’s devotion to him pull him to fully commit to the Amish life or will his desire for fast cars and adventure lure him to the English world? An intriguing read that will not disappoint you. ~It receives 5 Whoopie Pies from me~http://whoopiepieplace.com/2012/08/09/valley-of-hope-review/ About the AuthorSarah Price' ancestors emigrated from Europe in 1705, settling in Pennsylvania as the area's first wave of Mennonite families.
