The Kissing Tutor, page 20
part #11 of Sweet Water High Series
“Basically, your dad reminded me he’s a trained killer.”
I gasped. “He did not.”
He nodded with a grim expression. “Brendan said he’s soon to be a trained killer and that I’ve caused you to cry enough already. Not to do it again.”
“Oh, my gosh.” I busted out laughing. “You know they’d never lay a finger on you.”
“Maybe,” he said with a shrug. “I don’t plan on finding out.”
We drove through Sweet Water and stopped at the stop sign before we turned on the highway.
Roan gave my fingers a squeeze and turned to look at me. “Are you ready for the first day of the rest of our lives?” he asked.
My smile widened. We were off on our own adventure. One that had my belly jittery with the nerves and excitement. “Yes. Absolutely.”
Seven-and-a-half hours, two bathroom stops, and one lunch break later, we arrived at our destination. Sweet Water wasn’t what I considered a small town, but compared to Knoxville, Tennessee, it was tiny. Luckily, I only had to be concerned with the campus. I doubted I would ever go off campus unless it was for softball or I was with Roan.
He pulled into the parking lot for my dorm and found a spot. The sun cast a warm glow on everything in its path. It made the campus more inviting. And I needed that because knots tried to weave together in my stomach. I had never been away from home before. Not like this.
Roan shut the truck off, unbuckled his seatbelt, and swiveled to face me. His tender golden eyes flickered with mischief.
I loved the way he grinned like that. His perfectly white teeth peeked through the small separation of his lips, and one corner of his mouth lifted higher than the other. I didn’t know why he was staring at me like that. It made my stomach tremble, and I giggled. “What?”
His eyes danced with excitement or maybe nerves. He said, “I haven’t said anything, but I feel like this is the second chapter of us.”
I clicked the button to release my seatbelt, leaned over the console, and thanked him for such a beautiful thing to say. After a long, delicious kiss, I decided I better stop before I got carried away the first official day on campus.
I sighed. “Love your idea. Our story. How many chapters do you think we’ll have?” I stayed perched across the console, looking into his mesmerizing eyes.
“Hm,” he sounded, pursing his lips. “What do you think?” he asked.
“I don’t know. I hope a lot.”
A brilliant smile stretched on his lips. He traced a thumb across my cheek. “I think our novel will be longer than War and Peace. Full of love and adventure, and since it’s a true story…pain. But I’ve had enough of that in my life. I hope we don’t have to deal with too much more. As long as we’re on the same page together, our love will last until the end of our time.”
Happy tears pooled along my lashes. My heart, my body, my mind was melting. I slid my hands over his shoulders, pulled him as close as possible, and pressed my lips to his with an appreciation I’d never felt before. He was beautiful. He thought I was beautiful. And he was mine. We were each other’s. He split my heart wide open and took up residence.
I knew in that moment that one day we would marry each other. We had the best of both worlds: best friends and forever love.
But that day, that moment, was when our true love began.

About the Author
Hi! I’m Sally.
I grew up in the rural Midwest wandering through the woods and creeks of the countryside. Might have been a tomby like Tommie when I was a little girl. Hey, with three brothers, what do you expect? 😉
That experience has been a tremendous influence on my writing, lending credibility to the voice of my characters. I combine the ingredients of reality with a dreamer’s imagination to create sweet and delectable fiction.

The Talk
When Roan’s character first came to me, he was a lot different. His family history was going to be his grandparents were from Argentina and moved to America to extend the family business. Roan’s parents were both going to be from Argentina and have strict family rules about dating and marrying from an approved/select family that were wealthy.
As the story evolved, Roan’s background evolved too. His mother dying at a young age. His father, too distraught to stick around and face her memory all the time, moved back to his home country. That left Roan, alone, with his mother’s parents. It would be tough to loose both your parents at a young age like that.
But Tommie girl was there for him. She was always there for him.
And having someone for you like that...you never forget it.
Roan might have screwed up, but it didn’t take long for him to come to his senses.
You know what, he was there for Tommie through the years too. And I loved what Roan said, “I think our novel will be longer than War and Peace. Full of love and adventure, and since it’s a true story…pain. But I’ve had enough of that in my life. I hope we don’t have to deal with too much more. As long as we’re on the same page together, our love will last until the end of our time.”
Sigh.
Can you picture this tall, strong guy, dark honey skin, shaggy hair with a bit of waviness, and warm caramel-colored eyes saying this?
Double sigh.
I hope you enjoyed reading The Kissing Tutor as much as I enjoyed writing it.
