“Sawyer’s outside with Coop,” Morgan said, immediately calming her nerves, and Sophie wondered if her panicked thoughts were that evident. Then she said, “And he’s going to flip his lid when he sees you in that shirt.” She winked at her, and Sophie’s heart took off again, but for a very different reason. When she didn’t say anything, Morgan continued. “I bet your sister damn near passed out when she saw you.”

Sophie’s sudden laugh shocked even her, though she welcomed the brief topic change. “She’s not babysitting tonight. You should’ve heard her when I said Alexander was staying with Sawyer’s parents. I could practically see her running to tell Mom on me.”

“Lily doesn’t need to babysit all night anyway,” Morgan said, frowning. “She doesn’t get out enough as it is.”

Sophie agreed. Lily was too consumed with her studies to have any kind of social life. She was a new adult but hadn’t emerged from her shell yet. She would in time, Sophie was sure. But, not wanting to get into it about her sibling, she said instead, “Neither do I.”

“That’s what tonight’s all about, sister,” Brindle said before looking at Morgan. “That skirt is righteous.”

“Well thank you, darling,” Morgan said, drawing out the word. Then she looked at the door. “About time.”

  Sophie glanced over her shoulder.

  And froze.

  Holy shit.

  Holy, holy shit.

The rest of the guys walked in, but she barely acknowledged them. All she could see was Sawyer. Sawyer in his black slacks. Sawyer in his pressed white shirt. Sawyer with his styled hair.

He wasn’t in jeans and a sports shirt like he usually was when they come out to the bar to watch the games. He’d dressed up, and he looked hot.

She stood, her legs moving of their own accord because one of the other guys walked in front of him and she couldn’t see him anymore.

“Who tipped them off?” Brindle grumbled. “They look all snazzy. I should’ve known something was going on when Skylar showed up in something other than ripped up jeans.” Were the others all dressed up? Sophie couldn’t pull her gaze away from her husband to tell.

Then Sawyer looked at her. He stilled, and she could see his lips mouth, “Fuck.”

Yeah, she was totally in agreement. Her body lit the moment she saw him.

“Game face, girl,” Brindle whispered heatedly.

Sophie blinked and looked at her friend. She glanced at the others and they were all looking at her with varying levels of glee. Morgan bit her lip to try to suppress hers before saying, “As much as it pains me to say it, Brindle’s right.”

  “Hey,” Brindle said indignantly.

“Oh hush,” Morgan said to her before continuing. “You’ve put a lot of effort into tonight. Just play it out. We can all see you’re about thirty seconds from jumping his bones.”

Sophie groaned and grabbed her drink before downing it. “Get me another,” she muttered to Taylor. She was going to need it to keep from tackling her husband.

Taylor hooped. Hannah clapped. Reagan motioned for Marcie before anybody else could, though Brindle’s hand came up just after hers.

Sophie stole a look in Sawyer’s direction. He and the other guys were headed their way. Did her hands just start sweating?

When Sawyer reached her, he pulled her into his embrace and kissed her. Hard. Not giving her an opportunity to push him away like she did last night. Not that she would. He knew her well enough to know that after she blew up, it didn’t take her long to cool off.

“Damn, baby,” he said, pulling back a little to get a good look at her. “I’m torn between ripping off my shirt to cover up what’s mine and strutting around like a peacock.”

“You could do both.” She’d love to see his naked chest.

He smiled at her and put his lips at her ear. “Sorry for being such a dick. I plan on making it up to you.”

Empowered, she gently pushed him away. “You’ll have to prove it,” she said playfully. Frankly, taking her to bed would do the trick, and she was beyond ready to get out of here and let him do just that. But one look at her friends told her that wouldn’t be happening anytime soon. Relieved that the two of them seemed to be reaching a new, stronger understanding, she was okay hanging out here and having a little fun with him for a little while.

  But not all night.

“I intend to.” He winked at her, gave her one more hot kiss, and walked away. The other guys followed, and she finally, really looked at them.

“When did Bryson get here?” she asked.

“You are so gone,” Taylor said, laughing. “He came in with the others.”

Sophie looked back at the guys as Marcie walked up with a tray of drinks. “Where are they going?” They were not headed to the main television section.

“They booked some pool tables for the night,” Marcie said and passed out drinks.

“Oh god, I get to stare at Skylar bending over playing pool all night? Damn, but he’s got a righteous ass.”

Sophie watched in fascination as the guys gathered around the pool table instead of the television. When the game was about to come on.

  And it was the playoffs.

Yet, that’s what they did. And over the next hour or so, they played pool and had beer while the girls drank their kisses and hammed it up at their table. They still watched the game—some. They cheered at the highlights and roared when something exceptionally bad happened, but for the most part they played pool and seemed more engaged in doing their own thing. Sophie snuck glances at the guys when she thought it was safe not to get caught by the other girls, but every time Sawyer seemed to sense her. He’d look up and smile at her, wink, blow kisses. He did something different each time she got caught looking at him, and she had to tamp down hormones she thought long dead that flared in reaction to his attention.

Sophie was sipping her third drink when halftime rolled around. Not that she was gauging how long she had to stay here not having sex by the length of the game or anything.

  Okay, so maybe she was.

“Why are they going to the stage?” Reagan asked. “Nobody’s playing tonight.”

Sophie frowned, looking over at them again. When she turned to say she had no idea, she was caught off guard by the smiles on Morgan, Hannah, and Taylor’s faces. “What?” she asked. Had they known all along that she’d been unable to keep her eyes off her husband and just not called her out on it?

  “You’ll see,” Morgan said, smiling.

She narrowed her eyes. The guys were up to something, and the girls were in on it. “Seems we have some traitors in our midst.”

  “Not traitors,” Morgan said. “Accomplices.”

  “Same diff,” Sophie said.

“Huh? What’s going on?” Brindle demanded.

“Don’t look at me,” Reagan said, lifting her hands and shaking her head.

  “Just watch,” Hannah said, giggling.

Sophie turned around to look at the group of guys. The sound system was over there, too, so maybe there were going to play some music and ask the girls to dance with them. It was plausible. They wouldn’t do it during the game because many of the customers were here just to watch it. When they went straight to the sound system, she figured she’d assumed correctly and had to fight a grin. Hell yeah, she’d dance with her husband. She couldn’t wait to get her hands on him.

Then they got on the stage, halting her train of thought. “Oh, shit,” she muttered. “Are they drunk?”

“Can I have your attention please?” Sawyer asked into the mic. The bar quieted some. Sophie’s pulse raced. “I’ll spare you all the details, but I fucked up with my wife.” When the men in the bar cheered, he continued, “I see I’m not the only one who’s been in the doghouse.” He looked at Sophie and winked. She laughed briefly, but quickly became entranced again.

“So I’ve pressed some of my buddies to help me make it up to her. You see, the night I met my future wife, I was singing karaoke. I have to admit, I was pretty damn charming.” Sophie laughed with some of the other customers, but she knew he was telling the truth. She was a goner the moment she’d seen him on that makeshift stage belting out a ballad. “So for tonight’s halftime entertainment, I want to celebrate that night because every night since has been my heaven. I owe everything I am to her. I love you, baby.” The women in the crowd awed while a few of the men groaned and one called out, “pussy.”

Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry. Was he going to sing that song? She hardly remembered it. It wasn’t anything special. Hell, he’d probably sing some meaningful slow song, and she’d bawl. She just knew it.

Then he started singing a fast song. A naughty one. By Nickelback.

She threw her head back and laughed out loud, completely shocked. Holy shit on a stick! She did not expect this. Some of the girls jumped up and started for the stage when the other guys jumped in, singing.

“C’mon!” Morgan squealed as she tugged her up. They followed the other girls to the stage. As the song played, they girls danced with each other, but Sophie kept gawking at Sawyer. If he was hot before, he was on fire now. He oozed sex appeal and complete confidence as he sang.

  To her.

Because, yeah, she was shaking her ass and wearing a pink thong like the song said. Not that Sawyer knew that. Yet. But of course it was pink. Her bra was pink, and she knew he could see that, so maybe he assumed her panties matched. He’d find out later for sure.

She then put her thumb in her mouth for good measure, following along with the song, and he groaned into the mic, almost getting off beat with the other guys.

She couldn’t remember the last time she’d had this much fun. She giggled and rubbed up against Hannah, hoping it’d mean even more for him, remembering what had happened the other night between the two of them. He pointed at her, like she was going to be in trouble later.

“Bring it,” she mouthed to him. He bit his lip briefly after taking a breath and continuing with the song.

By the time it was over, she was sweating a little from all the bouncing around, not that she cared. Hell, now she felt like the one who should be strutting around like a peacock.

Sawyer glowed from the cheering that followed, but he didn’t stay up there long absorbing it. Nope. He jumped down and rushed her, pulling her into a hug and a kiss, and she loved every second of it.

“Let’s go home,” he murmured in her ear.

He didn’t have to tell her twice. “Let me say bye to the girls.”

He ran a hand down the side of her curls and kissed the tip of her nose. “Don’t take too long.”

Hell, she was damn near ready to race him to his truck, but she forced herself to turn away and head over to where the girls had congregated. “It’s been fun, but I’m out.”

Hannah smiled and hugged her because she was closest. “It’s just like riding a bike,” she said sarcastically.

“You better ride that bike all night long,” Reagan said, wrapping her arms around her next.

“I call bullshit. This is a girl’s night out. You should make him wait it out,” Taylor said.

“She’s suffered long enough,” Morgan said. Then she hugged Sophie. “Go get your man.”

After she let go of Morgan, she turned to face a sour-faced Taylor. Sophie opened her arms, inviting. Taylor bristled but hugged her anyway.

“I still call bullshit,” Taylor muttered as she stepped back. Then she saw Bryson smiling and crooking his finger at her, motioning her to join him. She huffed but cracked a smile as she started to walk over to him.

Sophie glanced at Brindle, but she just waved her on with a crooked smile. “Better you than me.”

“You’ll find a man who deserves you,” she said making Brindle hug her.

“Bite your tongue,” Brindle said pushing her away. “A beefcake every now and then is all I need.”

She was about to argue with her, but a strong arm came around her, and she was pulled into a well-known, hard body. “Let’s go. I can’t wait any longer,” Sawyer whispered in her ear.

  Neither could she.

  Chapter Nine

The ride home had been pure torture. Sweet, sweet torture.

As soon as Sawyer had gotten Sophie in the truck, she’d been all over him. She’d kissed his neck, nipped his ear, and rubbed his cock through his pants.

And they’d still been in the parking lot!

He’d been ready to rip her clothes off and take her right then, to hell with indecent exposure laws. The only thing that stopped him was knowing someone would see his naked wife—because she would be naked. The fact that every man had been staring at her all night had been hard enough. God, when he’d seen her tonight, he’d almost called off the karaoke plan, tossed her over his shoulder, and fled before anybody could’ve stopped him. He knew his friends wouldn’t have objected. They knew the score. Still, it had been hard to stick with the plan, but he knew how much she’d appreciate it, and how much he needed to show her how much he loved her.

He’d gripped her hair and kissed her hard just to distract her long enough to finally get his truck started with shaky hands, not that she’d stopped her sensual assault. It had only been a momentary distraction. All the way home she’d licked and kissed the parts of his body that were exposed, while unbuttoning more buttons—on his shirt and his pants—to get to new parts. He’d groaned and almost ran a red light when she’d pulled his dick out and stroked him. But she’d been mindless, not stopping, not getting enough of him, and he loved it. God, but he loved every second of it.

After slamming the truck in Park inside their garage, he hauled her over onto his lap, and finally kissed her again. If they didn’t get out soon, he’d be fucking her right here. Not that he was against the idea of that in general, just not this time. He needed her on a bed with room to devour her—because he was going to.

Sawyer couldn’t get his wife in the house fast enough. He maneuvered the door open while fumbling with his keys, but he managed to get them out and drag her with him. As soon as they were in the house, she shoved him against the wall and dropped to her knees.

“Oh fuck,” he breathed, forgetting he was still exposed until that moment. When her mouth encased him, his head banged the wall as he looked up. Embracing the slight pain, he diverted his gaze. He couldn’t watch. He’d lose it right here and now if he did. It’d been too long since she’d gone down on him, and it felt as good as he remembered.

Her moan vibrated around him, and he yanked her up, stopping her before he shot down her throat. She started to protest, along with his one-minded dick, but he crushed his mouth to hers and walked her to their bedroom, unbuttoning her shirt in the process. By the time they got to their room, he’d divested her of her thin top, she’d gotten the buttons on his undone, and they’d both lost their shoes along the way.

“God, you’re so beautiful,” he moaned and buried his face in her cleavage, inhaling her. He knew it probably seemed like a rookie move, but damn, she’d rocked him to his core. He reached around and unhooked her bra and watched as her beautiful breasts spilled free.

“Make love to me,” she murmured.

He looked up, slid his hands into her hair, and demanded his libido calm down. He had all night. He didn’t have to rush this. He kissed her softly, sensually, as he nudged her toward their bed and pulled his shirt off. It might kill him, but he was going to take his time worshiping every inch of her luscious body.

Once they reached the foot of the bed, he stopped their progression and fell to his knees. He took his time slipping the skirt off of her while kissing her thighs, her knees, her calves. After removing it, he forged a path north, stopping at the apex of her thighs. His tongue darted out to taste the wet spot on her pink panties, and he groaned at her gasp.

Fuck it. He could go slow later. He gripped her thong and tugged, ripping it from her body, and pushed her onto her back. He didn’t give her time to protest. He shoved her legs wide to make room for his shoulders and dropped down, burying his face between her legs and stabbing her core with his tongue, trying to taste the cream she was creating just for him. He was only partially on the bed, but he didn’t give a damn. He was still in heaven, drinking ambrosia.

Sophie’s hands dove into his hair and tugged him, trying to pull him higher. He knew where she wanted him, and as much as he wanted to keep lapping at her opening, he couldn’t deny her. He let her lead him to her clit as he sucked on her lips and tongued her on his path. Before giving in completely, he teased her a little, circling her hard nubbin as she squirmed, trying to get him to make contact. When he finally touched her there, he plunged a finger inside of her. Within seconds, she was screaming, her inner walls clamping around his finger.

Before she came down from her orgasm completely, he yanked the rest of his clothes off, climbed up, hooked his arm around her and hauled her higher up the bed so they’d both be on it fully.

“Be easy,” she murmured. She didn’t have to tell him that, but it reminded him of how they’d gotten to this point—his ignorance about her physical desires after having the baby.

He caressed her cheek. “Always, baby. If I do anything to hurt you, let me know.”

“I’ll be fine. Don’t make me wait anymore.”

  “No, baby. No more.”

He kissed her as he gripped his cock and rubbed her folds, swallowing down her sweet little sounds. When he pushed into her, he stopped and reveled in it. God, she felt perfect, so much more so than he’d remembered.

  “Is it okay?” she asked.

He snapped his head down, and he looked at her. “You’re perfect. Please don’t ever think differently.” He thrust into her, not stopping this time until he was fully seated. He groaned, dropping his head to her shoulder. “I’ve missed you,” he breathed against her.

She wrapped her legs around him and lifted, the friction snapping the last of his control. His arms dove under her to hold her shoulders and he pounded into her. He couldn’t stop.

He didn’t ever want to stop.
