part #19 of His Mate - Brother Series
“That’s my bloody idea of training,” Coleen whispered.
“Oh, ain’t love grand?” Santino said, mocking the shifters. “Run along, good boys!”
Merry nudged Lorna and Lorna nudged Coleen. All three women shot conspiratorial looks at each other.
“Ladies,” Merry said. “A little rain to stop play, if you please.”
Coleen and Lorna obliged. It wasn’t a hard spell to do, not between the two of them, and the heavens opened, but only above the vampire.
“Hey!” he protested, tossing the ball over his shoulder and starting for the cabin, but where he went, so the little black cloud above him followed.
By the time he reached them, he was drenched through, but as he suspected, as soon as he was in front of them, so the rain abruptly ended. “Harsh and uncalled for.”
“Do not mess with Betty’s timetable,” Merry warned him, wagging a finger in front of his nose.
“I could eat,” Santino said, shrugging. “But it’s not going to be comfortable in soggy clothes,” he grumbled.
“Your wish,” Lorna said.
“Is our command,” Coleen added.
Before the vampire could say another word, he was swept up by the winds and set on the magical equivalent of the spin cycle in the warm air.
“Noisy little sucker, isn’t he?” Coleen said, chuckling at the sounds that were coming from inside the mini twister.
“I don’t know,” Lorna said and turned a smirk on Merry. “Is he noisy when he’s sucking?” she asked, and Merry almost choked on the last bite of her biscuit.
“Who told?” she demanded, her mouth full of Betty’s cookie.
“We’re witches,” Lorna said, shrugging.
“We know things,” Coleen added.
It was an out and out lie. Flint had seen the vampire coming out of Merry’s cabin a couple of mornings ago, and they weren’t staying up to watch the sunrise.
Merry thought that over, she could have denied it, but what was the point. It was pack land, and everyone in the pack knew what everyone else was doing sooner or later. This was sooner. “He’s…” she shrugged again.
“Ha!” Coleen said, high fiving her friend. “I told you they were together.”
“You didn’t know?” Merry said, and cursed.
“We do now,” Lorna said chuckling. “So…? Details,” she said, urging her on.
Merry opened her mouth to spill the beans, but Betty’s hard tones yelled out from inside the cabin. “That meant everyone in here, you idiots!”
Nobody said a word as they all rushed to get inside.
“A little help here!” Santino yelled.
“Oh,” Lorna said, turning in time with Coleen, and they both snapped their fingers at the same time.
The sound of the vampire shrieking as he flew through the air was priceless. The sound of the hard thud when he got to where he was going was somewhat lost on them as they rushed to get inside the cabin.
“Ouch!” Santino said, lying on the grass and looking up at the clouds in the sky. “Double ouch with bells on,” he grumbled, and then groaned as Betty shouted a curse. “I’m healing here!” he snapped back and groaned.
It was at times like those that the vampire missed the days when he had no conscience, a blood lust, and killed his friends.
The End.
