Unmasking Sin, page 24
“I try.”
She pulled his head down and kissed him. “Thank you for that.”
He returned her embrace with enthusiasm until she drew back frowning. “Only it does seem a shame to have the house standing empty.”
“Well, I thought if you are happy here at Redpath, we might rent Ashley House. If you’re willing.”
She regarded him with some amusement. “I suppose you even have a tenant in mind.”
He smiled. “Francisco. He will be shockingly absent for much of the time, but he really does need a place to rest occasionally.”
“I like that you look after your friends. And we owe Francisco.”
“We do, but we shall still charge him rent! I shall have to go back to London next week to look to my neglected business. If you are still happy to live at Redpath, I’ll speak to him then.” He threaded his fingers through hers. “Shall we go and see how Tom appreciates his nursery?”
Tom, of course, loved his nursery and was rushing around, reacquainting himself with all his old toys and books. Painted wooden soldiers were already strewn over the floor, along with an old spinning top and a set of jackstraws, while Tom was enthusiastically riding his rocking horse.
Ludovic laughed and waded through the mess to let Tom ride on his back down to tea instead, which made the boy laugh with delight as they charged toward her.
Rebecca’s heart soared with pride and pleasure and sheer happiness. Somehow, she seemed to have won everything she had ever wanted and more. And she would treasure it and hold it tightly forever.
