In the convoy, Revka sat perched on Iyarra’s back, gazing out at the scenery, silently ruminating. It had been quite an adventure, but she felt very glad to be heading back east. She’d heard somebody say once that the best part of traveling was coming back home. She wasn’t sure she agreed, but just then and there, she could kind of see what they meant.
Iyarra looked over her shoulder at her girlfriend. “Hey, penny for your thoughts?”
“Hm? Oh, just thinking. I haven’t been back home since I first left. Was kind of wondering how things are going there, you know?”
“We can go up and visit if you like.”
“Well, if you’re sure. It’s pretty cold up that way. Even in the summer, it’s a bit nippy.”
“I don’t mind. Besides, I’d like to see where you came from.”
“Yeah, well. It’s been so long, heaven knows what it’s like now. Probably my siblings are all settled down and got kids and whatnot. Not sure I’d fit in anymore, you know?” Revka sighed. “You can’t go home again. You know who said that? Perdu the Sage.”
“Yeah, but wasn’t he the one who once got lost in his own house?”
“Well okay, that’s a point.”
“It wasn’t even that big a house.”
“All right, geez. Anyway. It has been a while since I saw everyone. Haven’t thought about them in ages, you know? And now I can’t stop wondering.”
Iyarra smiled. “Well, think it over. We’ve got a little time.”
Revka patted her girlfriend’s back. “Yeah, yeah, we do.”

On his distant mesa, Coyote leaned back, took a long look at the world, and laughed and laughed and laughed.
