She was still having small contractions, but knew this was normal, though uncomfortable. Quickly sorting herself out, she opened the door, wobbly but erect.
Alex was just returning to the bedroom with an armful of pillows as Junior lay fussing in the cradle.
"You okay, meu amor?"
Putting on a smile though she was still in pain, she held out a towel. "Sure honey. Put this where my butt will be, will you?"
Tossing the pillows on the bed, he hurriedly laid out the towel. Taking Hannah's arm, he helped ease her down on the bed, lifting her legs and covering her with the blanket and sheet.
Junior was definitely unhappy. Alex handed him to Hannah. "I think he misses his mãe."
Smiling, she said softly, "Maybe he's hungry."
Alex slipped into bed beside her and curled on his side, head propped on his elbow. "Let's see if he is." Taking him from her, he held the baby while she got ready.
Hannah cuddled little Junior to her breast and he nuzzled, searching for her nipple frantically, finally latching on and suckling. An intense rush of emotion made her light headed. "Oh, Alex. I don't know how I could love him anymore. I'm so full of it right now I can hardly breathe!" Tears came, but they were tears of pure joy. She would remember this perfect moment for the rest of her life.
Alex leaned in and swept a gentle kiss across her lips, and then he kissed her again, passionately, deeply, lovingly. He drew back. "Hannah, now you have your family—you and me and Chloe and Junior. And don't forget, I'm a very good bull. But, next time, I insist our baby is born at the hospital!"
She laughed, "I second that!" and pulled Alex down for another breathless kiss as Junior filled his little tummy at her breast.
