  The Cost of Caring-

I’m a news junkie. And while I think it’s good to keep up on current events, I also have to stop and wonder sometimes if this constant flow of (usually) bad news is good for my mental and emotional states. This was written during a period in late 2014 when it seemed like there was a fresh atrocity every time I turned on the television.

  Remember-

Another stab at predicting what the future might look like. I do think the country is gradually moving left…so amazing how quickly our society shifted from basically considering homosexuality a mental illness to legalizing gay marriage.

  Harrison Examines the Great Machine-

I’m almost sixty now and have been thinking a lot about how the way we look at the world changes as we age. I admit, this is basically an essay in the form of a story.

************* The Summer of Our Discontent-

Alternative history is such a rich concept. We look back at events that have shaped our lives and culture and consider them set in stone… but the truth is our present reality is the end result of an infinite number of decisions,

accidents and deceptions. For example, just think about how different things would have been if the attack on Pearl Harbor had been prevented, an alternate fuel source had been created a hundred years ago or Al Gore had won Florida in the 2000 election.

  ************

  Glitch-

Have you noticed how often new pharmaceutical drugs are created to treat one medical problem and then end up being used to treat a variety of illnesses?

That’s not exactIy what happens in this story. But human beings have a tendency to get very creative when it comes to seeking out pleasure.

  ************

  The New World-

Climate change is another one of those issues where I have a hard time understanding our indifference. I saw this story serving as sort of a literary travelogue, hoping to paint a picture of a world where global warming has even modified the planet’s geography.

There’s not a lot of action in this tale. I was more interested in just getting people to think about where we might be headed in a hundred years.

  ************

  Sunset-

A short piece about those who seek to be more than human and the organic people they love.
