Sadly, Margaret Clark passed away during the writing of this novel, but her expert editing and insights are all over it, going back as far as the original outline. If, for example, you enjoyed the whole subplot with Simone Tovar, you can thank Margaret for that; it was her idea to give Chekov a potential love interest aboard the Enterprise, just to complicate the imposter’s mission even more. Identity Theft is a better book because of her.

And the same can be said of the many books and stories we worked on together over the last several years. Margaret was always very engaged and supportive—and thoughtful and patient when need be. She was also great fun to hang out with at conventions and chat with over the phone, usually at great length. Her loss is a tragedy to all of us who knew and worked with her over the years—and to Star Trek in general.

Finally, as ever, Karen has been my copilot this entire trek and for every other adventure we’ve shared together, past, present, and future.
