Walking into the meeting room, Jaxson only gave a cursory glance at the people gathered around the table as he dropped into the head chair, setting the folder of reference docs in front of him. Chase took the seat to his right a second later, while the chair to his left remained empty — a heavy reminder that they’d left Emma at home with Khloe and the twins.
“Sleeping well, I gather?” Miguel asked, grinning when Jaxson stared at him.
“Just great,” he deadpanned. “Look, I don’t want to be here any longer than you all do, but we have to get this year’s Valentine’s event settled for Runway West and Black Light West.”
“Sounds good to me, we’ve got four lockers malfunctioning at the Runway entrance that I’d like to get squared away before tonight.” Their head of security, Miguel Martinez, was always working. Something Jaxson definitely appreciated, especially since he was the same way.
Or, he used to be. Dammit.
“Then let’s get to it.” Scanning the faces, Jaxson settled on Elijah Keaton, their West Coast Dungeon Master. “Did you get the chance to talk to Spencer?”
“Sure did, and I think I’m up to date on the decisions you made on the call last week for the changes to the Roulette procedures this year.” Elijah yawned, almost cracking his jaw as he leaned back in his chair. “Still sounds like one hell of an event. Is it true you had someone land on diaper play last year?”
“Yep,” Chase answered, grinning.
“Yes, that’s true, and these events tend to get very intense very quickly.” Jaxson couldn’t help but remember their lawyer Connor Lambert trussing up Ella Castle in such devious ways that he had even seen the appeal. Just not enough to actually want to try it with his own subs. Rubbing his eyes, Jaxson continued. “And, really, that’s one thing we’re concerned with here at our West Coast location. With our clientele we may need to—”
A huff came from the petite blonde a few seats away as Madison noticeably rolled her eyes.
“Do you disagree, Madison?” Jaxson was in no mood for this shit. Even if their tiny club manager was doing a great job, it didn’t mean he had the patience for her California-girl attitude at the moment.
“I do,” she began, leaning forward so she could meet his eyes with a confidence more than half the male employees failed to have. “You’ve had us working to make these clubs, like, the destination for the affluent and celebrities here in Cali, and from what Elijah has shared with me Black Light has totally had the same success that Runway has in recruiting.”
“Elijah shared the membership list with you?” Jaxson questioned, wondering why it would be relevant to Madison’s job. The Dungeon Master grumbled, and Jaxson couldn’t help but ask a follow up. “You and Ms. Taylor have frequent chats about Black Light?”
“Have you spent much time with her? She shows up to ask about something, and then never stops talking!” Sitting up, Elijah scrubbed a hand over his face. “Sharing the information is the only way to get her to shut up since I can’t fit her with a ball gag. And she’s signed the NDA, and already knows about the club, so… let’s just say it’s for my sanity.”
The answer was almost enough to make Jaxson smile, even though he felt like roadkill. There wasn’t enough coffee in the world to battle the sleep deficit he’d racked up, but it was nice to have a Dungeon Master with less of a territorial stick up his ass than Spencer Cook did as DM at their East Coast location. That conference call had been exhausting.
Madison sighed, rolling her eyes again. “Look, having an awareness of our crossover attendance has done wonders for understanding both the people and financial flow from one club to the next. Seriously, so many members of Black Light begin their night at Runway before moving downstairs, and that’s important to know!”
“That’s actually pretty awesome. Have we looked into that on the East Coast?” Chase asked.
“I totally talked to Maxine when we first set it up, and she’s doing it in D.C. too. Obviously, we’re handling the lists personally so that Runway staff aren’t aware.” Madison smiled like a pageant winner, and as he scanned her quickly he noticed she was in another perfectly put together designer outfit. If he had to bet, he would have guessed the flowy, floral print top was Dolce & Gabbana. As much as he hated to admit it, even though she looked and sounded like the Valley girl she was, she knew what she was doing with the business side of things.
