Fantasy World Farm, page 28
“Yes, it was.” Ellyn laughed breathlessly. “Noah, I…”
I noticed her hesitance, and I lazily lifted my head to look up at her.
“What is it?” I asked.
Ellyn smiled softly at me and cupped my cheek with her hand.
“I love you,” she whispered.
Her words made my breath hitch in my throat. It felt like time had slowed, and I couldn’t hear anything other than her soft breaths as she carried on looking at me like I’d hung up the moon for her.
“You… You love me?” I asked in a quiet voice.
“Yes.” She nodded and stroked my cheekbone with her thumb. “After everything you’ve done for me, my father, and the town… You’ve… You’ve changed my life.”
“You’ve changed mine, too,” I replied. “And I… I love you, too.”
Ellyn’s face lit up at my words, and she tugged me back down to her chest.
There was no doubt in my mind that I loved her. None at all.
We laid there together for a few more minutes just basking in the admission of our shared love for each other. But after a while, we knew it was time to get up and move somewhere more comfortable.
I helped Ellyn off the counter, and we both went to my bathroom to clean ourselves up. Then we changed into some pajamas and climbed into bed.
Neither of us had stopped smiling the whole time, and we both fell asleep with a smitten grin on our faces. I don’t think I’d ever had a sleep as well as that one.
I stirred as the sun’s light beamed into my bedroom the next morning, and I instinctively pulled Ellyn closer to me. The elf grumbled in her sleep as she nuzzled into the crook of my neck, and despite being half asleep, I couldn’t help but smile.
Then I felt a tapping at the foot of the bed, and I peeked an eye open to see Fang curled up in a ball right by our feet. His tail was wagging and hitting the covers as he watched me start to wake with tired blue eyes.
I chuckled to myself and laid my head back down against the pillow.
And then I realized something, even in my sleepy state. As the golden light of the sun filled the room, it was like my mind was finally opened.
Being portaled here was probably one of the best things that had ever happened to me. Even if I did find a way to go back to my world, I couldn’t leave Ellyn or Fang behind in this world. Especially not after what she said to me last night. Her words still stuck with me, and they would for the rest of my life. Because she loved me, and I loved her.
This place was my home now, and I wasn’t going to abandon it for a world that wasn’t.
Besides, there were endless possibilities out there.
And I was only just starting to explore them.
End of Book 1
Cast of Characters from Book 1:
Noah: Human. Main character. He has sandy blond hair and tanned skin from working outside on the farm every day, and taking care of his animals and his crops is his sole responsibility.
Fang: Wolf. Pure, sparkling white fur and bright blue eyes. Noah’s wolf companion and best friend who he rescued after getting caught in his chicken wire fence.
Ellyn: Elf. Noah’s main love interest. Long blonde hair, light-blue eyes, large pointed ears. Ellyn helps Noah get used to life in Gladewood, and she’s also a farmhand on her father’s farm.
Frederik: Elf. Ellyn’s father. Long gray hair usually tied back in a loose ponytail, bright sunken blue eyes, and the same pointed ears as Ellyn. He’s a grumpy old man, but after Noah helped him fix up his farm, he’s started to warm up to the new farmer in town.
Tirii: Human. Noah’s secondary love interest. Long brown hair, brown eyes, strong features, and olive-toned skin. Noah finds her dangling from her snare in the woods and helps her get down. She’s tough and can hold her own, and is one hell of a huntress, and her family also owns a brewery in Gladewood.
Sirus: Half-Orc. Tirii’s older “adopted” brother. Light green skin, long black hair that he usually wears in a loose ponytail, and amber eyes. His tusks are smaller and more subtle than other half-orcs, and they’re a light purple color. He works at his family’s brewery and looks after their younger siblings.
Alden: Half-Orc. Overseer of Gladewood. Light green skin, brown eyes, and looks to be around forty in human years. He’s tall with a wide build and muscles, but in a way that doesn’t look healthy. Sharp pointed ears with thick brass rings along the lobe and cartilage. He also has tusks poking out of his bottom lip.
Wilbur: Dwarf. Long dark red hair, a thick red beard, and dark beady eyes. Wilbur is a town guard and a sucker for Noah’s produce.
Bathilda: Human. The innkeeper of the Frostfyre Inn. Long gray hair and brown eyes. She’s probably in her sixties, and her face shows her age with crow’s feet and wrinkles. She’s thin, but with a surprising amount of cleavage, which she likes to show off, and she has a soft spot for Noah.
