We were huge and had a first class military, so if they could take us over then it would definitely show the rest of the countries what they were capable of.

Whatever the case, we weren’t going to sit down and take it. We were going to fight and take our country back. If some of our troops were still holding strong, then we owed it to them to do whatever we could to put a stop to the Korean invasion. More than that, we owed it to ourselves. This was our country, and we weren’t just going to lie down while someone took it from us. That wasn’t the way things were going to work. The United States may not ever get back to the way it used to be, but we sure as hell weren’t going to let it turn into a military base or a home for the Korean Army. I’d never bow down to a dictator, they’d have to kill me first.

After we finished mapping out our trip for the next day, Renee called us for dinner. We ate fish and vegetables with everyone else, and Renee had even made a pan of chocolate brownies for dessert.

“Everything was delicious,” I told the dark haired woman as I sat down at the picnic table next to her.

“Thanks,” she said with a smile, and she poured me a cup of the booze that she had in front of her.

“Are you alright?” I asked as I accepted the beverage.

“Oh, I’m fine,” she said, but I knew that wasn’t the case.

“Renee,” I said softly. “Are you worried about us leaving? It’s going to be alright.”

“Of course I’m worried about that,” she half chuckled. “More than anything, though, I’m just sad about the Mitchells.”

I followed her eye line to where the family sat together at a different picnic table and ate quietly.

“It’s just so sad,” she sighed.

“You said earlier that you know teenagers are always hungry,” I remarked gently. “What did you mean by that? Did you lose a child since this all started?”

“No, not me,” she said with a shake of her head. “But I was very close to my nieces. I haven’t seen them since just before the EMP.”

  “I’m so sorry,” I said.

“It’s alright,” she told me, and she forced a smile to her face. “I saw them just a week before Christmas. We were supposed to meet up again for New Years, but obviously that never happened.”

Seeing the teenagers clearly brought back some memories for Renee, and I felt bad for her, and for the Mitchells. Renee was right, the family looked quite downtrodden. I hoped that being around some of Renee’s people and knowing that they’re safe and have plenty of food and water would be enough to get them feeling right again, but there was no guarantee of that. It would take some time for them to adjust, and that was fine. We just had to let them get back to themselves on their own terms. It would do no good to try and force it.

As I sat and looked at the family I thought about all the people that the girls and I had saved since the EMP hit. The girls and Rolly were the first ones I’d helped, but since then they’d helped me free many others from bad situations. Some of the people we freed we hadn’t seen again, but the ones that stayed with us had taken some time to get comfortable. Actually, a lot of the civilians had chosen to stay at the school they’d been at initially. It wasn’t until we needed more help at the farm and everything that we decided to have everyone move.

Change could be scary for people in that position, especially those that had been abused. Most survivors probably had some form of PTSD or another with everything that they’d seen, and unfortunately all anyone could do at this point was move forward. We didn’t exactly have psychiatrists to go to, we had to make do and keep going as best as we could.

If someone was in serious mental trouble, though, then we did have Donna. She was a good fallback for anyone who was suffering. I reminded myself to suggest that the Mitchells talk to her when we got back.

“I hope they’re okay out there,” I told Renee in regards to her nieces.

“Oh, I’m sure they’re alright,” she replied. “I feel like I’d know if they weren’t. Besides, my sister is tough as hell. I’m sure that they’re doing fine. I just wish I could see them again.”

I smiled softly and took a drink of the liquor she’d poured for me.

“So,” Tara said as she and the rest of the girls joined us, and she looked at Renee and wiggled her eyebrows. “That Johnny guy. What was up with that?”

“What do you mean?” Renee asked, but she blushed bright red which gave her away instantly.

  “Damn, I’m good!” Tara laughed

I was happy for the change of subject, though I still felt bad that Renee was dealing with such terrible emotions. I thought of Kimmy, then, and how she must feel similarly to that a lot. She’d left her sister in order to stay with us and make it through the winter, but I knew that had to have been hard on her. I was an only child, so I didn’t really understand the bond between siblings, and I never pretended to, but I could tell that it was something special. I’d had plenty of friends that had older or younger brothers and sisters and though there was always bickering and fighting, there was so much love there that it couldn’t be denied.

In high school I knew a kid who had a younger sister. I’d go over to his house quite often, and he’d pick on her constantly, or refuse to let her join us with anything. Then, one day a rumor went around school about his sister being loose, and he found the guy that had started it and beat the shit out of him. Part of me had been surprised that he’d taken so much interest in what was said about his sister since he constantly picked on her, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it was a protective thing. It was one of those relationships where only they could treat their sibling like that. They wouldn’t tolerate anyone else giving them the same treatment. I always respected that kid for what he’d done, and it had even made me wish I had siblings there for a time.

“I don’t know what you are talking about,” Renee chuckled.

“Oh, come on,” Tara scoffed, and I was pulled back into the conversation. “You know what we mean.”

“It did seem like you two were flirting pretty heavily,” Paige said with a smile.

“Do you like him?” Bailey asked before she took a bite of brownie.

  “He’s… nice,” Renee remarked.

“You’re giving us nothing here,” Tara chuckled. “Come on, you totally think he’s cute.”

“He is good looking,” the dark haired woman agreed, and her cheeks went even more red.

“I think you should go for it,” Paige told her. “He clearly liked you, too.”

“That would be too unprofessional,” Renee said with a shake of her head. “They were here to establish trade, and that’s what we did. Even if I did think he was cute, any sort of relationship could jeopardize our trade agreement, and I can’t have that.”

“I think it’d be fine,” Tara said, and she turned to me. “Tav? What do you think?”

  “I understand Renee’s hesitance,” I said.

“Thank you,” Renee said, and she took a drink of her liquor.

“But,” I added. “I think if you take things slow and a relationship builds naturally then that’s fine, too.”

Renee said nothing, only looked down and blushed again.

“See?” Tara said with a grin. “Just make him some of these awesome brownies, and he’ll be putty in your hands.”

“He said let the relationship come naturally,” Anna laughed. “Not try and get to him as soon as you can.”

“Whatev,” the platinum blonde said with a shrug. “It’s totally natural. Best way to a man’s heart is through goooooood cooking!”

“I think I’ll just see how things go when he returns with the trade goods,” Renee said with a soft smile.

Tara was nothing if not pushy when it came to what she wanted. And apparently she wanted to play cupid at the moment.

I should have expected as much after the way that she’d treated the other girls when I first arrived. She’d pushed Kimmy the same way. I appreciated her being a good wingman, but at the same time I didn’t need her to get laid, and I would never want any of the girls to feel like they had to sleep with me out of peer pressure. Luckily, none of them had felt that way, but Tara could get pretty intimidating pretty quickly, and she often needed reining in.

“Here,” I said, and I handed Tara my still nearly full glass of liquor. “Take this and leave Renee alone.”

“Gladly,” the platinum blonde chuckled and took the booze.

Just then the Cadets all came over to the table, and they looked somewhat concerned. Michael bit his lip, and Missy and Omar sort of stared at the ground as they stood just behind him.

“Tav,” Michael said. “Can we talk to you?”

“Of course,” I agreed, and my eyebrows pulled together with confusion. Just a couple of hours ago they’d been ecstatic to go with us to the arsenal and Boston, and I wondered what had changed.

“We just wanted to let you know that we packed for the trip,” the young man continued.

“Okay,” I said, and my eyes narrowed in on him. “What’s wrong?”

“Well,” he sighed. “We’re just worried that we’re not well stocked. We finished off the last of our food a few days ago, and--”

“It’s okay,” I told him, and I held up a hand to stop him from continuing.

The poor boy looked distraught. They wanted to go on the trip so bad, but now they felt like they had nothing to contribute.

“But--” Missy started, but I just held up my hand further.

“We’ll take care of it,” I said. “Just go finish eating and be ready in the morning. We’ll need you to guide us around Boston, so get some good sleep.”

“Okay,” Michael said with a nod, but he still looked sad as he and the other two Cadets walked away.

“Poor things,” Bailey said with a frown after they’d left.

“Renee,” I said with a smile, “I hate to ask, but--”

“Say no more,” the dark haired woman chuckled. “I know you’d do the same for us. We’ll find them some sleeping bags and fresh clothes, and we’ll make sure you’re well stocked for the trip.”

“I appreciate that,” I told her. “We’ll make sure to make it up to you.”

“We’ll call this even for you letting us use the tractor for fire lines,” she said with a wink. “How about that?”

“Sounds fair to me,” I replied with a smile.

I really did enjoy having Renee be in charge of the fort. It didn’t feel as though we were separate communities, but more like one that helped each other as much as they could. She understood that a lot of the missions that the girls and I went on would benefit her just as much as they would us, and so she never had a problem giving us extra fuel or supplies when we needed it. The refinery was up and running after all, and they’d created a nice stock pile of fuel already. Plus, she knew that the fort would get a good portion of the food that we harvested from the farm, so it was best if we worked together and made things easier on each other as much as possible.

After everyone had finished eating and Renee had loaded us up with some supplies for the morning, I led the girls back to our room to retire for the evening.

I had the girls make sure that their bags were packed and everything was ready to go, then we sat around on the bed with a deck of cards that Paige had borrowed from one of the civilians. We started to play a game of go fish, but soon after there was a knock on the door.

“Come in,” I said since I figured it was Renee.

“Hey,” the dark haired woman said as she slipped through the door with a tray in her hands. “I just wanted to bring you a little something.”

“You didn’t have to do that,” I told her.

“I know,” she said with a smile. “But I wanted to.”

She set the tray down on the bed. It had a pile of brownies on it along with a small bottle of liquor.

“Oh hell yeah,” Tara said, and she grabbed one of the brownies.

“Are you sure?” Bailey asked. “You can give them to someone else.”

“There were plenty left,” Renee chuckled. “I already dropped some off to the Mitchells and the Cadets.”

“Thank you,” I told her sincerely.

“I can’t believe Tara reached for a brownie before the liquor,” Anna laughed.

“These things are addicting,” Tara said, and she closed her eyes and let out a sigh. “So good.”

“They are quite tasty,” Paige said, and she grabbed one as well.

“You have to give me the recipe,” Tara told Renee.

“I’ll write it down for you,” she laughed. “They’re surprisingly easy.”

Renee left, and we devoured the brownies and passed the small bottle of booze around as we played go fish. Soon, though, the sun started to set outside, and the girls began to yawn.

I had everyone lay down and told them I’d be there shortly. But I wasn’t tired quite yet, so I used one of the small lamps from the room to look over Paige’s maps while the girls slept.

I knew of the arsenal we were going to, but I’d never been there myself. I’d found it on the map, but I had no idea what to expect when it came to the layout of the place. I’d asked Missy to draw us a diagram tonight, but she had said she wasn’t sure what all she could remember. They’d only been there once, so I wouldn’t blame her for that.

When they’d passed by just a week or so ago they said it had been empty, so I hoped that remained the case now. It would make our job a lot easier if we didn’t have to waste time on a group that might be there.

I could feel my mind racing as I stared at the map, so I took a deep breath to try and calm myself down. I had so many questions and not nearly enough answers to be able to formulate an actual plan as to what we were going to do about the Koreans. I’d know more tomorrow, but the anticipation was something that I didn’t enjoy.

“Tav?” I heard Bailey whisper, and I looked up to see her making her way over to me from the bed.

“Hey,” I whispered back, and I opened my arms for her.

The blonde rubbed her eyes slightly, then crawled into my lap and nestled her head against my chest.

“What are you doing?” she asked with a small yawn.

“Just going over the details of our trip tomorrow,” I told her softly.

  “You’re not tired?” she asked.

“Not yet,” I said with a smile.

“You’re so warm,” she said, and she nuzzled in closer to me and sighed against my neck.

The feel of her breath against me made my stomach jump and my heart rate pick up. The blonde was so delicate and feminine in my arms, and I began to run my hands along her smooth legs. She wore nothing but a pair of panties and the same see through white shirt she’d worn the night before. Her pale legs were soft and cool against my fingers, and I stroked them up and down softly.

“Mmm,” she sighed, and she kissed my neck.

I continued to move my hands along her legs, and I heard her gasp when I ran one finger up the inside of her thigh, but then she sighed as I moved it back down toward her knee.

“You’re so soft,” I whispered against her hair.

“It feels so good when you touch me,” she replied, and her voice was husky with desire.

I ran my finger back up the inner part of her leg, and her knees quivered as she spread them open for me.

“Ohhh,” she groaned, and she gripped my shirt tightly as I traced along the seam of her panties.

Bailey pulled my mouth down to hers and sighed into me as I caressed her gently. I could feel her grow wet through her panties, and my erection throbbed underneath her.

She continued to kiss me, but now more ferociously as she held onto my shirt for dear life.

I slipped my fingers into her panties and felt the slickness of her slit. She was soaked and ready for me, so I slid one finger into her first, and she gasped and broke our kiss.

“Fuuuuuck,” she moaned as I slid another finger in.

“Shhh,” I whispered as I glanced over to the bed to make sure the other girls weren’t awake. None of them moved, so I figured we were in the clear, but I didn’t want to risk it, so I’d have to keep Bailey quiet.

“Sorry,” she gasped as I began to slide my fingers in and out slowly. “You feel so good.”

“You like it?” I asked as I moved my fingers a bit faster.

“Oh, my gawwwwwwd,” she moaned, but I quickly used my other hand to cover her mouth.

She writhed and bucked against my fingers as I fucked her with them harder and harder. I could feel the vibrations of her moans, and though they were still audible it was just barely.

Bailey locked eyes with me, but then they rolled into the back of her head as her body tensed, and she came on my fingers. Her pussy spasmed around me and the feel of it made my cock twitch hard.

I waited until she had finished, then I pulled my fingers from her and licked them clean.

Bailey climbed off of me, then, and she knelt in front of me and pulled my legs apart before she worked on the button and zipper of my shorts.

Once she had those undone, my erection sprang free, and she looked down at it, then up at me with heavy eyelids. She locked eyes with me as she licked from my base to the tip, and my cock twitched with pleasure.

“God, you’re so big,” she said, then she opened her mouth wide and took the whole of me down into her throat.

“Fuuuuck,” I groaned, then I bit my lip to keep myself from being even louder.

It was difficult, though. Bailey expertly bounced her head up and down on my cock, and I felt my tip hit the back of her throat over and over again. After a moment she pulled away with a gasp and a string of spit connected us for a split second.

I reached down quickly and pulled her shirt off to reveal her pert breasts and tight pink nipples, then I reached out and pinched them.

Bailey threw her head back with a low moan before she gripped onto my cock and started to rub it up and down.

“You feel so good,” she said, then she took me back into her mouth.

She used her tongue to tease the tip of me, and I felt my body stiffen with pleasure.
