Hexes and Habaneros, page 10
“What's that?”
“I don't have a place to live,” I whispered, quietly. I could see the wolves dying to get up on stage, waiting to ask him a billion questions.
“Oh,” he said as his arms wrapped around me. “I happen to have a dimensional space that has quite a few rooms, two labs, and a gorgeous walk-in shower.”
“Are you offering?”
“Yes. Are you agreeing?”
“Sure,” I said with a grin. “We should celebrate.” I reached over and grabbed a spoon from the ice cream.
“What are you–”
I ate a bite and instantly fell in love with the mix of habanero and peanut butter.
“Veronica! You're allergic!” he shouted at me, and stole the spoon when I would have gone for another bite.”
“Are you crazy?” Pepper yelled at me and then took the ice cream far away.
“It's not a deadly allergy,” I said as my body got a little too warm. “I’m uncomfortable, but that’s it.”
He shoved a pill in my mouth and it dissolved instantly, negating the allergy. “What am I going to do with you?”
“It was worth it.” And it was. Every moment leading up to this was more than worth it. And his antics on stage guaranteed that I would never have to sell my hexes on the streets again.
