“We can go back to Paris,” Remy suggested. “Or wherever he’s headed.”
“He’ll need time to cool off. Let me call my mom. I want her to know that I’m genuinely happy and excited to start our life together.” She was.
His smile kicked up at the corners, exactly the way that she adored most. “Me, too. We should probably talk about where that life will be, though.”
“There’s an idea,” she said on a small chuckle.
They pressed their smiles together, then enjoyed a longer kiss before his assistant cleared his throat.
“The, uh, next couple will be here shortly, sir.”
“Right,” Remy said wryly, drawing back and taking her hand. “One pair of many. I’d say we aren’t special, but we damned well are.”
“Damned straight we are.”
Laughing again, he scooped his arm behind her and they started down the path toward their future.
EPILOGUE
One month later...
EDEN STARTED TO enter the elevator at her Toronto apartment building, planning to race upstairs with her new purchase, but she came face-to-face with Vienna, Hunter’s sister.
Vienna had on her running gear and removed her earbuds. “Oh, my God. Hi! I thought you moved to Montreal?”
Within seconds, they had ditched their plans so they could catch up over brunch. Vienna didn’t even bother to change since they walked to a nearby café that catered to yoga moms and entrepreneurs.
“I am in Montreal now,” Eden said once they were seated. “Remy has a gorgeous Victorian greystone on Avenue Laval.”
She smiled every morning at the joy of waking next to him, but the sunlight that bounced off the gleaming gold of the maple floors didn’t hurt, either. Light poured through the etched glass in the partition doors and a curved staircase led to a second floor, where the original four bedrooms had been converted into a master suite with its own lounge, a massive bathroom with an infrared sauna and a private balcony. The top floor held a den, two guest rooms, a rooftop patio and a hot tub.
“I’ve been working from home while we create some executive spaces at the BH and G building there. I’m only here to see Mama and finalize a few things here.” Like replacing the problematic board members.
“Quinn said you had offered to let her stay in your place here this summer, but I haven’t seen her. Of course, that was when she thought you would be moving in with Hunter. Has she gone back to PEI?”
“She’s still in Europe.” And not communicating much. She wasn’t ghosting Eden as ruthlessly as Micah was, but every attempt to reach out was met with a mention of research that was keeping her very busy. “How is Hunter?” Eden asked cautiously. “Remy actually went to meet him today, but you probably knew that. Is everything okay with him and...everything?”
“He and Amelia are actually great together. Peyton is a doll. I hope you’re okay hearing that?”
“Relieved, actually. I feel like I should send her a thank you gift,” Eden joked. “I wouldn’t have been as happy with Hunter as I am with Remy. I hope you don’t mind hearing that.”
Vienna gave a little “hmm” of amusement, but looked into her latte.
“Are you okay?” Eden frowned with concern.
“Better than a year ago, but... Do you want to hear a secret?” She wrinkled her nose. “Neal and I have been separated since your engagement.”
“Seriously? I had no idea. I’m so sorry.”
“I’m not. It’s...” She shook her head. “Complicated. It’s simpler when I live here and he stays in Calgary,” she said dryly, then her brow furrowed. “I haven’t had the heart to tell Hunter, not when he was going through everything with Amelia and you and Remy. You know what the press will do to us. He doesn’t need yet another scandal about his sister’s marriage falling apart.”
“I’m sure he’d understand. He’s your brother. He’ll want you to be happy.”
“I know. It’s just hard.”
Eden knew. She had disappointed her brother and didn’t know how to fix it. Whether Micah would let go of his anger once he knew about Yasmine remained to be seen, but even though Yasmine was starting to talk about meeting Micah, Eden and Remy weren’t rushing her.
Eden and Vienna walked back to their building, promising to catch up again very soon.
That was when Eden remembered what she had run out to buy hours ago. She quickly did the test and was beaming when Remy arrived home a short while later.
“How did it go?” she demanded. She was bursting with her own news, but she genuinely wanted to know how it had gone with his best friend. Former? Or forever?
“Good.” Remy nodded, still seeming introspective. “I told him a little more about the history between my father and Micah’s. Not everything, but I wanted him to understand better how you and I happened. That we would have happened five years ago if history hadn’t been in our way.”
“I saw Vienna. She said he seems happy with Amelia.”
“He said as much. In fact, I’ve never known him to be so enthusiastic about anything. He was acting as though becoming a father is akin to landing a man on the moon. He’s only been one for five minutes.”
“I’m sure you won’t be like that at all,” she teased.
“I don’t need to become a father to tell people how happy I am. I have you.” He drew her into his arms and gently squeezed her. “Whether we make a baby or make our family another way, that will all be icing. I have everything I want or need right here.” He kissed her nose.
“Shall I put that to the test?”
“How?” He frowned down at her.
“Well...” She walked her fingers up the front of his shirt. “That thing we’ve been trying so diligently to accomplish looks like it may have happened.”
“You’re pregnant?” The words sounded as if they’d been punched out of him. His arms tightened around her and the biggest smile widened across his face. “Okay, I lied.” He hugged her and she could feel him shaking. “I’m going to be exactly like that.”
She laughed and twined her arms around his neck. When he picked her up, she fastened her legs around his waist.
He started to the bedroom, but stopped. “Can we...?”
“We definitely can.”
“This life of ours just keeps getting better and better.” Laughing, he carried her to the bedroom.
