Heaven Is for Real
Todd Burpo
Nonfiction / Christian / Religion
"A beautifully written glimpse into heaven that will encourage those who doubt and thrill those who believe." --Ron Hall, coauthor of "Same Kind of Different as Me" "Do you remember the hospital, Colton?" Sonja said. "Yes, mommy, I remember," he said. "That\'s where the angels sang to me." When Colton Burpo made it through an emergency appendectomy, his family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival. What they weren\'t expecting, though, was the story that emerged in the months that followed--a story as beautiful as it was extraordinary, detailing their little boy\'s trip to heaven and back. Colton, not yet four years old, told his parents he left his body during the surgery-and authenticated that claim by describing exactly what his parents were doing in another part of the hospital while he was being operated on. He talked of visiting heaven and relayed stories told to him by people he met there whom he had never met in life, sharing events that happened even before he was born. He also astonished his parents with descriptions and obscure details about heaven that matched the Bible exactly, though he had not yet learned to read. With disarming innocence and the plainspoken boldness of a child, Colton tells of meeting long-departed family members. He describes Jesus, the angels, how "really, really big" God is, and how much God loves us. Retold by his father, but using Colton\'s uniquely simple words, "Heaven Is for Real" offers a glimpse of the world that awaits us, where as Colton says, "Nobody is old and nobody wears glasses." "Heaven Is for Real" will forever change the way you think of eternity, offering the chance to see, and believe, like a child.

Niccolò Ammaniti
Fiction / European Literature / Italian Literature
Lorenzo has a few issues. They include the fact that he doesn’t have, or want, any friends. Because this is making his parents unhappy, he tells them he has been invited on a skiing holiday with a group from school. In fact, he is planning to spend the week happily ensconced in the cellar of their apartment building with a supply of canned tuna.
Then his estranged older sister Olivia turns up in the cellar with some issues of her own. Over the next few days, as Lorenzo helps her through her heroin withdrawal, they form an intense bond. And Olivia reveals some secrets that the family have kept from Lorenzo.

The Geography of You and Me
Jennifer E. Smith
Young Adult
Lucy and Owen meet somewhere between the tenth and eleventh floors of a New York City apartment building, on an elevator rendered useless by a citywide blackout. After they’re rescued, they spend a single night together, wandering the darkened streets and marveling at the rare appearance of stars above Manhattan. But once the power is restored, so is reality. Lucy soon moves to Edinburgh with her parents, while Owen heads out west with his father.
Lucy and Owen’s relationship plays out across the globe as they stay in touch through postcards, occasional e-mails, and—finally—a reunion in the city where they first met.
A carefully charted map of a long-distance relationship, Jennifer E. Smith’s new novel shows that the center of the world isn't necessarily a place. It can be a person, too.

Let Me Tell You: New Stories, Essays, and Other Writings
Shirley Jackson
Horror / Biographies & Memoirs / Short Stories
*NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR • From the renowned author of “The Lottery” and The Haunting of Hill House,* a spectacular new volume of previously unpublished and uncollected stories, essays, and other writings.
Features “Family Treasures,” nominated for the Edgar Award for Best Short Story
Shirley Jackson is one of the most important American writers of the last hundred years. Since her death in 1965, her place in the landscape of twentieth-century fiction has grown only more exalted.
As we approach the centenary of her birth comes this astonishing compilation of fifty-six pieces—more than forty of which have never been published before. Two of Jackson’s children co-edited this volume, culling through the vast archives of their mother’s papers at the Library of Congress, selecting only the very best for inclusion.
Let Me Tell You brings together the deliciously eerie short stories Jackson is best known for, along with frank, inspiring lectures on writing; comic essays about her large, boisterous family; and whimsical drawings. Jackson’s landscape here is most frequently domestic: dinner parties and bridge, household budgets and homeward-bound commutes, children’s games and neighborly gossip. But this familiar setting is also her most subversive: She wields humor, terror, and the uncanny to explore the real challenges of marriage, parenting, and community—the pressure of social norms, the veins of distrust in love, the constant lack of time and space.
For the first time, this collection showcases Shirley Jackson’s radically different modes of writing side by side. Together they show her to be a magnificent storyteller, a sharp, sly humorist, and a powerful feminist.
This volume includes a Foreword by the celebrated literary critic and Jackson biographer Ruth Franklin.
Praise for *Let Me Tell You*
“Stunning.”*—O: The Oprah Magazine
“Let us now—at last—celebrate dangerous women writers: how cheering to see justice done with [this collection of] Shirley Jackson’s heretofore unpublished works—uniquely unsettling stories and ruthlessly barbed essays on domestic life.”—*Vanity Fair*
“Feels like an uncanny dollhouse: Everything perfectly rendered, but something deliciously not quite right.”—NPR
“There are . . . times in reading [Jackson’s] accounts of desperate women in their thirties slowly going crazy that she seems an American Jean Rhys, other times when she rivals even Flannery O’Connor in her cool depictions of inhumanity and insidious cruelty, and still others when she matches Philip K. Dick at his most hallucinatory. At her best, though, she’s just incomparable.”—*The Washington Post*
“Offers insights into the vagaries of [Jackson’s] mind, which was ruminant and generous, accommodating such diverse figures as Dr. Seuss and Samuel Richardson.”—The New York Times Book Review
“The best pieces clutch your throat, gently at first, and then with growing strength. . . . The whole collection has a timelessness.”—*The Boston Globe*
“[Jackson’s] writing, both fiction and nonfiction, has such enduring power—she brings out the darkness in life, the poltergeists shut into everyone’s basement, and offers them up, bringing wit and even joy to the examination.”*—USA Today
“The closest we can get to sitting down and having a conversation with . . . one of the most original voices of her generation.”—*The Huffington Post*

As she reads about Santhosh and his role in her past life, she starts to like him.
Ashruth decides to leave Meera at her parent’s residence until their wedding, which is a month away. He tells them that she is like a blank paper and anything that affects her will get imprinted in her. Like a book or a movie, if it affects her deeply, it might make her assume it’s her past. Though she is introduced to her mother and father, she finds herself incapable of trusting them.
Santhosh, her cousin, grew up in her house as he had lost his parents to a car accident at a young age. She understands from her diary that he was her best friend, right from childhood. As she browses the old videos and photos, her admiration and respect for Santhosh are rekindled. She doubts whether she was in love with Santhosh and whether she has carried her love from her past.
Will she call off her wedding despite knowing the societal consequences? Will she fall for Santhosh? What if she is married to one of the two and gains her memory later? If she was actually in love with Santhosh, why are people hiding it from her? **
Review
'The main conclusion I reached by the conclusion of this marvellous story, was the maturity of the author's writing. I think that it is remarkable for one, relatively youthful, and writing her first book, to capture a mesmerizing tale with such an insight into human beings. She has also written in the first person which I think is very difficult to do. It makes observations too subjective but somehow she has generally avoided that. Often I do not enjoy tales with flashbacks. It interrupts the flow for the reader. However, what she has done is to make the flashbacks relevant to the part of the present tense the story being told. That's good.'-Tony Drury, Writer, UK. 'I held it in my hands in the evening and it was so engrossing that I couldn't keep it. Finished it in one take.'-Neelam, Indian Writer with Limca Book Record. 'The plot of the book seems simple at the beginning, a girl who has lost her memory in an accident, slowly gluing together her life. But the author has some surprises for us along the way making it easy to get lost in the story. The author's narration style is simple and engaging.'-Debdatta, Limca Book Record holder for Book Reviews. ' She manages to hold the attention of the reader with a clear and crisp narrative. She also throws in surprises which makes the reader turn pages one after the other. A great achievement for a debut novelist.'-Preethi, Author 'My new found crush has literally swept me off my feat. No, I am not talking about another damsel in distress. It's these books with smaller, compact story lines. Just You Me and Secret is one such book with barely 120 pages. It's a brisk read from start to finish. The best part is it keeps you guessing till the very end. A promising debut by a talented female writer.' Salesh, Blogger 'Just, you me and a secret" captivates the attention of the reader from the first few lines, and holds it throughout the story.'- Kiran, Popular Blogger
Ganga Bharani, a debut author, has done ample justice to her work. She manages to hold the attention of the reader with a clear and crisp narrative. She also throws in surprises which makes the reader turn pages one after the other. A great achievement for a debut novelist. -Preethi Venugopal, Author There are just a handful of books that I have read in one go and this is one among them. The story could very well be made as a suspense thriller, that would woo the next-gen audience. It had real twists which no one could have ever expected. Thanks, good book!-Lucy I loved the pace of the story. There wasn't the usual unnecessary detailing. Sometimes too much detail can hamper the flow. The only negative in an otherwise engaging plot were the rushed film like portions which could have been avoided.- Salesh The story keeps you glued to the book till you finish it. -CVJ The storyline keeps the reader hooked. -Niranjan Author Ganga Bharani, as a debutante, has proved to the literary world, "Man, I have a great plot and I can write in flawless English. That was all it required to write a fantastic book."-Nandhini

You, Me, and Ulysses S. Grant
Brad Neely
A farcical biography of Ulysses S. Grant, You, Me, and Ulysses S. Grant is a history lesson disguised as an uproarious novel. Spanning from Grant's birth until his victory over the Confederacy, You, Me, and Ulysses S. Grant gives us an honest—warts and all—portrait of a relatable American hero who wrestled with the same domestic divisions that we're dealing with today. But what makes this book truly special is in its playful, disruptive postmodernism and the characteristically Brad Neely, campy voice of its narrator. The book examines the validity of biography by hilariously breaking all the form's rules. Through his humor, Neely brings Ulysses S. Grant to life. And in bringing Grant to life, Brad Neely has created his greatest cult classic yet.Taking the accessible, pop history of Coe's You Never Forget Your First and adding more of the nerdy, punk humor of Rainn Wilson or Judd Apatow, You, Me, and Ulysses S. Grant is for both...

You Couldn't Ignore Me If You Tried: The Brat Pack, John Hughes, and Their Impact on a Generation
Susannah Gora
You can quote lines from Sixteen Candles (“Last
night at the dancemy little brother paid a buck to see your
underwear”), your iPod playlist includes more than one song by the
Psychedelic Furs and Simple Minds, you watch The Breakfast Club every time it comes on cable, and you still wish that Andie had ended up with Duckie in Pretty in Pink. You’re a bonafide Brat Pack devotee—and you’re not alone. The films of the Brat Pack—from Sixteen Candles to Say Anything—are
some of the most watched, bestselling DVDs of all time. The landscape
that the Brat Packmemorialized—where outcasts and prom queens fall in
love, preppies and burn-outs become buds, and frosted lip gloss, skinny
ties, and exuberant optimism made us feel invincible—is rich with
cultural themes and significance, and has influenced an entire
generation who still believe that life always turns out the way it is
supposed to.You Couldn’t Ignore Me If You Tried takes
us back to that era, interviewing key players, such as Molly Ringwald,
Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Andrew McCarthy, and
John Cusack, and mines all the material from the movies to the music to
the way the films were made to show how they helped shape our visions
for romance, friendship, society, and success.

XGeneration, Books 1-3: You Don't Know Me, The Watchers, and Silent Generation
Part #0 of "XGeneration" series by Brad Magnarella
Fantasy / Urban Fantasy
XGeneration is a teen paranormal thriller series inspired by classic superhero comics and the 1980s. This box set contains the first three books: You Don't Know Me, The Watchers, and Silent Generation.~~~ABOUT YOU DON'T KNOW MEIn the fall of 1984, Cold War tensions between Washington and Moscow are close to breaking. But in sleepy Gainesville, Florida, fourteen-year-old Janis Graystone is mainly worried about starting high school, earning a spot on the varsity soccer team, and keeping her older sister from running her life. And then there are her paranormal experiences. Experiences where she awakens in her backyard — out of her body — with the disturbing sense that someone is watching her. For Scott Spruel, the start of high school means the chance to start over. And he's willing to ditch everything — computer hacking, Dungeons & Dragons marathons, even his comic book collection (well, except for his X-Men) — if it means getting closer to Janis, the secret love of his life. But what about the eavesdropper on his telephone line, a presence he senses through powers he is only beginning to understand? As clocks tick down, Janis and Scott will need the other's help. But first they'll have to find one another and that means traversing Thirteenth Street High's caste system — a system that can be as brutal as it is unforgiving.ABOUT THE WATCHERSBeing a telepath is no picnic, something Janis is learning firsthand. In the wake of a brutal attack and new warnings of a group with dark designs on her powers, Janis finds herself withdrawing from those closest to her, even the friend she's falling for. Scott senses Janis's growing distance, and he'll do anything to help her. That's what friends are for, right? But will using his supernatural abilities only cement his deadly fate — the one Janis is trying to protect him from? Bad boy Tyler Bast has a secret. A few of them, actually. But what if someone else knows What Happened? The answer could destroy him. After all, some deeds are best left buried. As menaces converge and choices dwindle, Janis, Scott, and Tyler must decide: hide their powers or risk everything to confront ... the Watchers.ABOUT SILENT GENERATIONIt’s decision time for the teens of Oakwood: join the Champions and develop their supernatural abilities or be expelled from the neighborhood — and each other’s lives — forever. For Janis, there are no clear answers. It doesn’t help that she and Scott disagree over the Program’s intentions. Janis just wants to know what happened to the last team. Is that so crazy? And why does Director Kilmer seem determined to keep that information a mystery? Flashback to 1961 Washington, D.C., where shape shifter Reginald Perry is struggling with his own questions. Namely, who’s assassinating his fellow Champions? His quest will carry him deep inside the nation’s power centers, but can he resurface before becoming a target himself? Or has someone already marked the last Champion from that era for death? Past, present, and the pervasive peril of nuclear war merge in this explosive installment.

Me and You and a Ghost Named Boo
Part #2 of "Southern Vampire Detective" series by Selene Charles
My name is Scarlett Smith. And I’m a vampire who was raised by a pack of wolves. Little crazy, I know. But let’s not get hung up on semantics here. Because I’ve got a story to tell. There’s something inside of me. A darkness. And she’s really starting to make herself known, think Harley Quinn on ’roids and you might get the picture. She’s powerful and definitely unhinged, but I don’t have time to focus on that right now because I’ve got bigger fish to fry. From the Alpha shifter on trial for breaking the unbreakable oath to a local vampire clan wanting me to party like it’s 1699, I’m in neck deep—pun intended. Have no fear though. I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeves and some unexpected allies in my corner. Sure, there are bound to be a few surprises along the way, and I’m guessing they aren’t all good. But, no one ever said being dead would be easy…

Made for You and Me
Caitlin Shetterly

At first, California was the land of plenty. Quickly, though, the recession landed, and a surprise pregnancy that was also surprisingly rough made Caitlin too sick to work. By December, every job Dan had lined up had been canceled, and though he pounded the pavement, from shop to shop and from bar to bar, he could not find any work at all. By March 2009, every cent of the couple's savings had been spent. So, a year after they'd set out with big plans, Caitlin and Dan packed up again, this time with a baby on board, to make their way home to move in with Caitlin's mother. As they drove, Caitlin blogged about their situation and created audio diaries for NPR's Weekend Edition—and received an astounding response. From all across the country, listeners offered help, opening their...
